Absolute gem of a spot. Best cocktails in Bristol, super friendly staff and a proper lovely vibe. Worth reserving a spot as it gets busy!

I told the waiter I had an allergy to egg whites and I couldn't have a drink that used the same equipment etc and he reassured me it would be fine, the first drink was okay and I asked for a mojito afterwards and reminded them again of my allergy and the waiter laughed at me and said who puts egg in a mojito? And I drank half the mojito and had an allergic reaction. I told the bartender I wasn't feeling well and asked if they had any antihistamine and the only thing they said to me is they promise they didn't put anything in it. I know mistakes happen but I was really frustrated especially because I was out for a birthday. If you've got a serious allergy, don't go here. The atmosphere and drink presentation in this place is genuinely amazing, but the drinks are quite small and expensive. They also charge a service charge, but it's slow service.

The bar staff are so lovely and welcoming, with fun themed drinks and an amazing atmosphere. Alex our waiter was wonderful, friendly and full of fun! Made for a brilliant evening! Highly recommend

This is the best place I’ve ever been.

We came for cocktails last night after a previous visit pre-covid. This place has gone down hill DRASTICALLY! The cocktails were tiny (finished the shark attack in 2 sips) and the ‘scouts honour’ was absolutely undrinkable! My boyfriend spoke to the barman and said we were unhappy and the staff member laughed at him! He did offer to remove the service charge, but when you’re spending £50+ on cocktails that awful a removal of the service charge seems like an odd choice of resolution… Such a shame as this place used to be so cool but we were bitterly disappointed. We left with a bitter taste in our mouths and went to The Library instead - beautiful drinks, fantastic, attentive, and professionally dressed staff (we were served at HMSS by a man wearing a snap back who you couldn’t even tell was staff..) and had an all together better experience. I would also suggest retraining your staff to deal with complaints in a more professional and appropriate manner!

A server called Alex showed us the whole process at the bar while we enjoyed a front row experience. It was like watching an artist perform their art. I’d come here time and time again. Top level experience and the price was not much above the average for the area so it exceeded expectations!!!! I’d come again

Nice cocktails but I'm not sure why we had to give up our table reservation after only being there for an hour. I'll go somewhere else in the future.

Went to HMSS on Friday 27th October. Was warmly welcomed on arrival by Mike and his team. Cannot fault this place at all - service was outstanding, recommendations for cocktails were exactly to our tastes and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely be back again! Thank you guys!

Very much trading on it's past reputation. -New decor is boring and lifeless. -Massively reduced menu. -Cocktail standard has dropped to average. -Service was slow/disinterested and bar staff have lost their entertainment factor. All in all, no longer worth paying premium prices to get uncomfortable seats at tiny tables.

Excellent cocktail menu, cocktails and service, as to be expected. Cant fault that at all. Only gave 4 stars as it was lacking slightly in ambience and atmosphere in comparison to other similar cocktail bars around the city.

Booked a table here 3 months ago for a group of 15, we got the confirmation for 9:45 from HMSS the Friday before our booking we turned up 20 mins late after struggling to get a taxi on time (we also tried to call numerous times and they didn’t answer) to find they had given the table away. We were met with the manager aggressively telling us we were wrong and our booking was for 9.30 which we confirmed was wrong with the email from HMSS telling us it was booked for 9.45. I wouldn’t normally have a problem but the aggressive and vile way the manger delt with this situation was disgusting and very accusational (also to a pregnant woman) We are 15 girls here for the weekend now stranded with no where to go thanks to the poor service here. So my advice would be if you do book here, don’t count on actually being able to go & certainly don’t plan your entire night around it. Wouldn’t hurt to just be more understanding and speak to people with respect.

If you want a good cocktail, come here. I came here with my Sister and my friend and had a good time. Be prepared though, prices are very high.

One of my favourite places to drink. They should replace all the Colston statues in Bristol with statues of the Twister. It's an institution.

Great ambience and very entertaining staff.

I've been to HMSS on Saturday with some friends to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere was lovely. There is a real authentic concept behind this place, all details are thought with care and executed to the highest standards. You can see that from the cocktails menu, all drinks are drawn to give you an idea of what they will look like - and they look exactly like that! I loved the graph at the end of the menu, showing how sour or sweet each drink is, to help you pick the perfect one for you. A drink was called something like "the scout's XXX" had a little surprise in it (a riddle and streamers) which made it feel extra special! All my friends really loved the place and drinks and kept telling me how cool it was. With no doubt what made everything better was Mike's service, he was fantastic. He frequently checked on us to ensure we had enough drinks and to check we liked everything. His service was impeccable! I'm so glad I choose HMSS for this occasion, I will definitely go back and also suggest to other friends too! Keep doing what you do guys!

If you like cocktails I highly recommend this place! The whole experience is excellent, all the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the drinks menu. The decor is cosy and had a swanky feel. And finally the cocktails, I had a Tommy's Margarita, a White Negroni and a Made in Japan, all tasted excellent, my only criticism would be I was left wanting more 🙂

Went in for a drink with my parents who were visiting Bristol for a birthday. Great service from literally everyone in the building, but especially Aidan, Max, and Bryony. They easily accommodated one of us who doesn't drink. I can not recommend this place enough to anyone who ends up in this part of Bristol.

There was a JENGA game to play too while we were waiting for our drinks and good music vibe, I do think however the decor could reflect the theme more and some more games is a win. I wish I knew the bartenders names that were awesome with great vibes on 26th Nov in the evening for a shoutout , anyway no matter I will be back for sure. 🫢

Good service, good drinks, great staff. It's nice to see people genuinely enjoy and are passionate about their job. A couple of iconic changes made to its original-speakeasy-layout since I was last here years back but was minor and didn't at all detract from a good atmosphere.

love this hidden speakeasy so much! they have really creative cocktails and their 5pm-7pm happy hour makes them very decently priced at £7. the staff there are great, we were sat by the bar and were served by a great chap from Barry (didn’t get his name sadly)! not really a place like it in Bristol so don’t miss it if you’re in clifton.

The interior design is very retro, plus the staffs here explain and help you to choose the cocktail best for for your tongue, and cocktails are creative and funny and most importantly yummy. Perhaps it seems a bit spenny but I promise all the money you spend there is worth

Just had a Great couple of here for my Son's 40th birthday celebrations. It was Brilliant, Fantastic Cocktails.There was 18 of us so we kept the bar busy 😅🤣😂😅🤣😂 I would Grwatly recommend this Place ⭐️❤⭐️❤⭐️

I think I left 5 star review in the past. BUT, went there on our wedding anniversary, we usually go away, but it has been busy for us and we decided to go get some nice cocktails after a dinner. Was a bit disappointed. Is staff turn over so high that every time we visit (I would say every 3-4 months) - all bar and serving staff are new? For a speakeasy sort of place I think it’s not a very good thing. It might be that the novelty is wearing off but it used be be much more fun and atmospheric. What happened to secret service decor? It’s just a bit too samy and a bit cheesy, trying to appeal to students etc… The cocktails - going down the hill. The menu is getting to the point there is nothing to choose from and the ones we had were watery and tasteless. The whole reason is making our way to HMSS is to get a good cocktail, not watered down full of ice drink you cannot taste anything like in some other places, but the standards are slipping I’m afraid. Please do get better as we would like to like it again.

If you want a real cocktail bar vibe with a little bit of edge this is the place for you. Our Barmen 'Aiden' was a top host, served probably the best 'Dark & Stormy' I've ever had. My partner and i really felt compelled to leave this place a great review. Location is perfect, setting ideal and all round an awesome place to go for dribks.

Absolutely superb. Easy to book a table online. Fabulous menu of cocktails, but they will make whatever you like. Try the shots too, they're amazing. Table service can't be beaten. All the staff were awesome. Our new favourite haunt. Oh... and they do Space Raiders too. Pickled onions ones.

Been here a couple of times and it’s really good. Probably the best Pina Colada I’ve ever had - they have it in a slush puppie machine :-) nice ambience, great service and great menu too. They will however make you any cocktail you want

Booked a table in this nice, cozy hidden bar as a send-off for friends visiting from London for the weekend recently and wasn't disappointed. Booking online was a breeze with very clear instructions. Our table location was perfect for us. The staff was very professional yet friendly. We love the creative drinks. The only thing that wasn't ideal was that sone of the snacks we liked were not available. But overall, it was a very pleasant experience and a very positive first impression of the bar. Unfortunately, the iconic phone booth entrance is gone. Nonetheless, two thumbs up. 😊

Great speakeasy with layers of whimsy and comfort. Staff were very friendly and the drinks were as delicious as they were inventive. Good menu that showed comparisons of their inventions with more well-known cocktails. A great fun stop to fit in a night out.

I was so excited to visit this place, and it let me down entirely. I had a booking for after dinner, the dinner was running slightly late so I stepped outside and tried to phone them several times. I couldn’t get through so I just jumped in the Uber and went. The host was incredibly curt and rude, immediately told me “too bad” and sent our whole group on their way. I still got charged for the booking even though they hadn’t picked up any of the phone calls. Will not be going again.

This could well be the best cocktail bar we have had the pleasure of drinking in. The decor, booze collection and atmosphere are just fantastic, every cocktail we tried was simply delicious (and we had a really good go at the very comprehensive menu), the presentation was just so imaginative making each drink an event in its self! But the icing on the cake was the service, we were waited on all evening by the absolutely charming staff and wanted for nothing. This place is an absolute gem hidden in the heart of Bristol, and absolute must for any cocktail connoisseur.

Popped in after being let down by another venue, and they completely turned our night around. Decor, staff, music and drinks were all brilliant. Small space, with loads of charm and really made our night. Will definitely be visiting again. Bryony looked after us, and was so helpful.

Wow what a find, we fancied a cheeky Wednesday evening cocktail and stumbled upon this place, when we saw the cocktails being served on other tables we instantly thought we were looking at £20 a cocktail due to the incredible presentation and styling, we were wrong and they were actually incredibly great value. Usually this would be the sort place we’d go to every now and then but I’m sure the is will become a regular fixture in our weekly alcoholic fixture list.

Me and my friend just visited here and I couldn't reccomend it more! The vibes is to die for, the cocktails are delicious and the staff are fantastic. We had Tom serve us and his customer service was top tier! My friend has a dairy allergy and he brought out the allergy book to reassure her. He was also excellent at reccomending drinks and just made the night that much better! If your thinking of going to Bristol for some cocktails then 100% this place can't be missed!

So this is definitely more of a 3.5 but we felt a 3 was a better representative. Really liked a lot about this place, the options, the friendliness of the staff, the atmosphere, decor etc all rated really highly. We’re giving this bar this rating because the cocktails seemed to barely have any alcohol in them. We had 2, each, and having walked out about 15 minutes ago, feel almost exactly the same as when we walked in. Certainly feels like they’re cutting costs by skimping on the amount of alcohol poured. We’d like to go again but unsure because it is still normal prices for a cocktail which we didn’t feel was worth it.

LOVED this place. Really cool vibe and great bar. The service was excellent! Genuine smiles all round from the staff, really attentive and didn’t feel like they were too rushed to talk you through the drinks and offer their suggestions. The cocktails were really fun but also perfectly balanced with great unique flavours. Not one of those bars that sacralises flavour for something that looks cool. Definitely visit again soon!

I really enjoyed the ambiance of this bar. The drinks were very tasty, and the service my friend and I received was excellent (we pre-booked a table online and were seated immediately). I will definitely be bringing more friends back when they visit. The Scout’s Honour (a mezcal-based cocktail that comes with torched marshmallows) was my favorite.

Really great staff. Friendly and unpretentious. It's quite a cool venue right next to the station. The drinks menu was really interesting too and there was a good mix of styles. It was good to hear the team were happy make anything off the menu too.

Great place with very friendly staff and amazing cocktails! Their menu is also so guiding as they have a map with the cocktails that have similar taste to the one you pick and it also has a map with the sour sweet, bitter and refreshing cocktails!
