Called in for breakfast on Saturday. Best breakfast I've had in a long time, well presented and good service. 👍

100% brilliant. Fab food, outstanding service.

We went to this restaurant couple of times on our visit. The place is quite small, however, on every occasion there was only one person serving. The Bombay style and the chicken burger that I tried was just ok. Nothing to rave about. No highchair available!

Fantsatic full english breakfast that set us up nicely for a day out in York. Huge plateful of tasty food - sausages, bacon, 2 eggs, beens, tomato and sour dough bread. Even had salad on the plate which whilst strange is non offensive. Table next to us had salmon eggs benedict, and wow, it looked and smelled amazing too. Breakfast for 2 including tea and orange juice was £30 - great value for what we had, especially in comparison to the Shambles market stalls selling a pasty for £6 and a cup of tea for £5. Lovely owner, and excellent service. Would absolutely go back again.

Had a wonderful time here with my bff, we don’t often find cafes that serve halal food and also have such a wide variety on the menu. The staff was super nice too, really helped when we had questions about the food and everything.

The food was to die for and it was so comforting and aesthetic to dine and drink from classy plates and presentation in a small, quaint cafe near the market. Me and my family ordered bruscettas, Calamari and a few other side dishes as a sort of tapas and it didn't disappoint. The Staff were so welcoming to us and our dog I would wholeheartedly recommend it!

The food I had was amazing and the child friendliness was on top too and everyone was so nice. Shambles korner is a nice place to hangout and it’s a nice quiet place to do things!

I had the strawberry cheesecake and the Affogato here. The food and the presentation were really nice. The portion of the cheesecake was generous and the strawberries were fresh. I ordered the freshly made bread for my baby and he enjoyed it. The staff are really nice and the food is reasonably priced. Totally recommend

Wonderful Service, BEST brunch ever. 100 percent halal, not many places like this around York however we were welcomed with wonderful smiles and staff who were very accommodating. Left feeling very full, and delighted in the wonderful brunch we have had. Friends commented ‘I have never been so impressed with a brunch place in York’ Will defo be back! We all got the English Brekki !

First time visiting shambles korner really nice banofee waffle.

First time I’ve been to Henshelwoods in 5 months. I used to pay £4/4.5 per sandwich. I however went in yesterday and the same sandwich I used to get was £7.50. I don’t normally review places but o was very disappointed in the price for a sandwich

Delightful single origin espresso from Peru! Cute shop with what looks to be quality goods. I could definitely see myself coming back to pick up gifts.

Got charged £4 for a salad and hummus sandwich which was the only vegan filling available. The woman serving had just prepared a beef sandwich and didn't bother to change her gloves despite me asking for vegan options.... Very disappointed, won't be returning.

To begin it is worth noting that this deli is open, maybe the Tripadvisor account needs to be updated? Great selection of stock, really varied. Got a lovely chorizo and Manchego sandwich today for the train, well worth a visit!

I went in to try and buy a jar of onion marmalade. They had no jars, but kindly gave me a small pot from the jar in their fridge which they use in sandwiches. Great service. I'll be back soon to actually buy something .

Best Deli in York. Great selection of amazing food and friendly staff. Their Christmas hampers are also a must.

Okay selection. Not as astounding as I had been led to believe. Charcuterie selection is limited and really expensive for what it is.£8 for 100grams of poncy salami, come on. I suppose you are a York + next to the shambles premium. All in all I was really looking forward to this but was left a bit disappointed. C - could do much better

We bought some sandwiches from a very tempting and tasty list . We’ll definitely have to go back so we can work our way through the options. York has so many beautiful looking food choices, have to say this tasted one of the best. Yum 😋

Great location in The Shambles. Really interesting sandwich options (Meat or Cheese). Difficult to choose, so will definitely be back again.

We had a picnic for six (including one gluten free) for a boat trip. The food was amazing and beautifully packed up with everything we needed. The gluten free member of our party has never been so well catered for. I cannot fault the food or the service and communications were excellent. I will be back to explore the Delicatessen when I’m next in York.

Lunchtime. We took take away sandwich’s prior to our trip further north. Loads of choice, lots of fresh meats and cheese plus a attentive staff who made you feel special. We really liked the shop and enjoyed all on offer. Really hope this place does well and they really care.

Such a fabulous unique little find that I can't wait to return, delicious food, fantastic value and very personable, friendly staff. The choice of homemade salads and really unusual concoctions, chutneys, cheese's. I had the homemade pate with salad and grainary bread and sat outside. The best pate I have ever had and they bill £3.50!!! Such great value and this is the shambles York. Many of my friends are vegan and there is a great choice. My visit here has definitely brightened my day.

Wonderful delicatessen and sandwich shop. The scotch eggs are awesome and the selection extensive. This is a little gem in the heart of York, seating outside for produce purchased from the shop. This establishment offers variety with great value for money.

As a surprise for my birthday, my family arranged a buffet for our Tea Time meal. We have been coming to this Deli for years and it has never disappointed. I don't think there is enough words to describe how amazing it was. The food was fresh and absolutely divine, the choices of meat and cheeses were fantastic and we pretty much sat there and filled our faces until we couldn't fit anything else in. The Chicken Liver Pate is are go too, and have never (and I mean never ever) found a pate as good as this one. Now working in the centre it is definitely my favourite place for lunch. Cant wait till we have an excuse to order again. Thanks so much :-)

Do great salad boxes. Delicious selection from meats to vegan. The scotch eggs are brilliant and the crab pate too. Great value. Will use your tubs so good for being green. Supports local produce.

I was prescented with a Henshelwoods Hamper by my Son and Family for my 70th Birthday on Christmas Eve - Wow everything in the hamper is amazing especially the Venison Pate with cranberries and Armagnac - jar now empty!

I can’t rave about this place enough. This picture is a picnic for 3 (we actually ordered 3 different menus, which they were totally fine with). It had enough food in it for dinner and tea for the 3 of us, for £40 we thought this was great value for money. We’ve ordered a picnic for 2 previously and that also could have fed a family! The bread rolls are incredible- as big as your face, and you can tell all the food is homemade and extremely good quality. It is such a friendly shop, they are always happy and polite. Even the bad weather couldn’t stop us enjoying this fabulous picnic. Thank you very much. (Couldn’t fit the crisps and cakes in this picture!)

Fed up with plastic, cold sandwiches then go to Henshelwoods, Large selection with different breads all made up in front of you. I regularly have the lentil pate with all the salads and a fantastic balsamic beetroot addition. All for £2.90. They have fantastic salads to take out and they are really cheap. PS The cheese selection is to die for.

Absolutely disgusted to find a gift brought back for me by my husband , a pack of Bath Oliver's have a sell by of 12th October 19. Satisfied now the matter was rectified

I also bought two small wedges from their great cheese selection: Richard III and Cornish Yarg. Everything was delicious

There are no seats inside but there are some benches around town so it is good if you want a fast, affordable, and fresh lunch or are going on a picnic. The York museum gardens, the York Minster Dean's Park, and the river are all very close and would be perfect for a picnic in nice weather.

Forget other sandwich bars, this little deli shop is the best for custom, fresh cut nibbles. All come with optional salad, your choice of bread or roll. Each time I've been in, the deli lady is so nice, big smiles and appreciative of your business.

We had ham of the bone with black bomber cheese, branston and salad on a bap and the other on a seeded baton. Freshley made while we waited. Loaded full of all the ingredients. Also had a pork and black pudding sausage roll which was lovely. We hadnt even got room to eat the cakes we had bought from there. Friendly helpful staff . We couldnt fault anything

Popped in to grab some bits and pieces for a picnic in the museum gardens. We were absolutely blown away by the knowledge, enthusiasm and service of the lady behind the counter. We tried samples of half a dozen cheeses in our quest to construct a mighty lunch, and constructed an impressive array of nibbles, cheese, olives, meats and accoutrements. Expected to have to pay tourist prices, but were pleasantly surprised at how cheap everything was!

A difficult review as these places appear connected on TripAdvisor and are next door to each other. The lady in Witches Cafe was so absolutely rude and unpleasant I couldn't actually find words to retort at the time. We asked pleasant questions about the menu to which she replied 'you cant't order upstairs. The menu is on the board'. That was it, end of. No friendliness, no helpfulness, no guide to the menu even. She was so rude we eventually left without food. In contrast, the lady in Henshelwoods Deli was pleasant , helpful, good humoured and more than happy to assist with our choices of cheese etc.... What a shame it appears connected to the establishment next door otherwise we would have given Henshelwoods five stars.

Excellent range of meats, preserves and sauces. A wonderful choice of sandwiches at very respectable prices. A real hidden gem for brunch or lunch if you are in York. Would highly recommend them.

I stumbled upon Henshelwoods Deli during my second year at university here in York. I have since made this place a regular for lunch, and I would place it as one of the friendliest and cosiest local secrets. I have three favourite sandwiches from there. They are the chicken liver pate and redcurrant jelly sandwich, the beef and horseradish sauce, and the parma ham and cheddar sandwiches. I cannot recommend this place enough. Not only are the staff are lovely and helpful, they are also genuinely knowledgable in their products and of their local producers.

As they have many kinds of selected cheese, I needed some help. Her advice was spot on! Since then, I often go there and I always enjoy 3 different kinds of cheese with my husband.

Love popping into Henshelwoods whenever I'm in town. They stock a great range of cheeses, pates and meats and have all sorts of pickles and chutneys in jar around the shop. They also do an amazing array of sandwiches, made to order. Brilliant.

Hemos estado encantados con la calidad y relación calidad-precio que proporcionaron. Mientras paseando en el mercado shambles, estábamos buscando un lugar para comer. Nos recurrida por la ventana de la tienda, que es muy bonito y el menú de sándwiches que ofrece mucha variedad.

Durante una escapada familiar reciente en Nueva York, una comida preparada por 12 era necesario. Henshelwoods ofrece una variedad de menús. Uno fue elegido y después de "ajuste fino" para satisfacer una variedad de necesidades de alimentación, la comida era entregado a tiempo.

Sólo un agujero diminuto en la pared pero tenía lugar deli, con un montón de opciones y variedades de sándwich (Sólo bocadillos fríos). Los precios también eran muy baratos… teníamos una ensalada de atún ensalada de cangrejo y un total de 5 libras. Raciones enormes, no comer en lugar de estar (no tan) para llevar y recorrer las calles mientras come. Delicioso y abundante. Las mujeres que nos servía era muy amable, no hay problema. El lugar estaba lleno de gente.

Visitaremos York regularmente para visitar a la familia. Siempre nos parada en las deli, si comprar comida y aperitivos para nuestras propias comidas, o para conseguir sabrosos panecillos rellenos para nuestro viaje a Escocia norte. La calidad de la comida es excelente, el servicio es excelente, y siempre nos sorprende la relación calidad-precio. Continuaremos en esta pequeña tienda de delicatessen.

La comida es deliciosa. Recientemente tuve una ensalada de tomate y mozzarella sundried, verduras asadas norafricano norafricano y una ensalada de lentejas; todos estaban deliciosos. La tienda está bien situado en el centro de York. Sin duda volveremos.

Je suis tombée sur cette Sandwicherie complètement par hasard, en me promenant dans le quartier des Shambles. J'ai étais très étonnée par le choix impressionnant de sandwichs et par le prix très attractif ! Moins de 3£, et on a de quoi manger ! Il y en a pour tout les goûts : poisson, viande, végétarien ... Il y a possibilité de choisir son pain (brun, blanc ...). Les serveuses se tenant au comptoir, sont très gentils et accueillantes. C'est un très bon plan si on veut aller pique-niquer dans un parc de la ville. Pour dire, c'est moins cher que d'acheter un sandwich chez M&S et bien meilleur !!Le seul point négatif, est l'attente ...

I work just around the corner from this deli and a member of my staff always gets the most amazing looking sandwiches and they are so full.I went in and was served by the most rudest lady (mature, glasses and short grey hair), when asked if I was ok and I replied I'm just looking at the moment. She tutted and rolled her eyes.I decided to have the pork, apple and rosemary jelly sandwich (which sounded gorgeous)I wasn't asked if I wanted butter or not, when I said I don't want any butter. She tutted again and rolled her eyes and said "I have done it now and we don't have any of those roles left" Ok I will have it. She grabbed the joint of pork and sliced it and added everything to it, I paid for it as well as a drink and some deli crisps. When I got back to my office I was so disappointed when I opened up the bag.There where 3 super thin slices of pork, tinny amount of apple sauce and rosemary jelly. It was dry and not that nice, I could have made better myself. I expected thick slices of pork and lots of apple sauce and rosemary jelly. To be honest I have had better from cooplands which is a chain! I always support local businesses. Go to local delie's, bakery's and butchers for my items.I haven't been back since and I walk past it 3 times a day!

The deli is wonderfully situated bang in the centre of York (right by the main square) and gets its produce fresh from the market. There are over 70 cheeses, both locally sourced and continental meats, seafood, a number of pates, as well as a large and varied assortment of pickles & preserves, oils & vinegars, cakes, artisan breads and pastas and just about anything else you would want from a deli. The atmosphere and quaintness of the place washes over you when you enter and you genuinely feel part of a good old-fashioned community. My boyfriend and I are gradually working our way through the sandwiches, so far everything we have eaten here has been delicious. My favourites are the Whitby crab pate, and the Ham off the bone with piccalilli and coleslaw. With sandwiches from £2.45, a choice of bread and free salad of your choice, you can't go wrong. If I had any complaints it would be that a bit more effort and a warmer welcome from the staff could really make this place exceptional, how can being around all that delicious food not make you want to smile!

What can I say? So much choice... I defy anyone to visit this shop and not have their favourite sandwich filling available. The vegetarian options must have numbered over 20 = so many beautiful cheeses served with pickles and chutneys galore. Not to mention a fantastic selection of meats infused with herbs, and spices etc. I chose the rosemary ham and this was freshly sliced. This came with whole seed mustard, but really you could have had anything. The salad was added as preferred. Choice of breads ranging from white to granary to seeded and more. As a previous reviewer has noted these were as big as your face. My sister had cranberry wensleydale with walnut chutney and said it was the best sandwich she has ever tasted. This is so much more than a sandwich shop, with loads of salads and pates and pickles etc. A gourmets delight. Since reading the older reviews I see we missed the soups. We need to return asap to try these! Also just to note two massive sandwiches with fresh choice of buns, fillings and extras - just over £5. We shall return.

LOVE, LOVE LOVE! Excellent Deli with colourful shelves full of beautiful ingredients! we ordered two sandwiches which were full of the most delicious things that we could handpick ourselves! I would say best sandwich I have ever eaten! and the selection of cheeses.. WOW

Amazing deli selection, and the shop is great for sourcing those cheeky ingredients that you can't even find in the misty aisle at Morrisons.We often go in here for lunch - sandwiches and salads are celestial. Service is often as chilled as the ham selection, however.

A surprisingly wide selection is such a small shop. The prices are reasonable too. My favourite is the smoked cheese. They also have tasty haggis. Sandwiches are to order and delicious.

Friendly helpful people. The owner makes some amazing Terrines along with first class meats and cheeses. Always helpful in giving advice on how to use the ingredients in cooking.

Before going to Henshelwoods, sandwiches were a meh sort of dish for me. They did the job and tasted okay when little else was on offer. But that was before.Having eaten there every single time I go to York, no other sandwich is good enough any longer. Absolutely delicious, and a sandwich the size of my face for £3 is tremendous value. Diverse menu from rich and creamy to slightly exotic, peppery and powerful, plus drinks and extras along with their sandwiches this is a gem that is almost hidden. Friendly staff, service as fast as they can manage and truly the only thing they need is a larger premises so I can sit down and have seconds when I know I really should not. Being sat right at the end of Newgate market it is easy to get to, and I would sit the deli in the same category as I do the Minster. When you come to York, if you do not eat there, you are missing out.

A real asset to York is an understatement. There is nothing you can fault about it. This is one special deli and so idea for those of us who haven't got time or want to eat in a restaurant Somewhere were you would love to own if you lived another life. Food ,glorious food come in the shape of cheese,pates,olives and take away picnics and much much more. My favourite is their coronation chicken sandwiches. Top class produce served by very friendly obliging staff. What more could anyone ask for .

Handily situated by York Market, this successful deli has been providing artisan treats to York residents and visitors for many years and has an award from The Observer Food Monthly magazine for one of the best in the UK.It's packed with a cornucopia of deli-ghts - over 70 cheeses, lots of pate's, freshly made trucklements and locally sourced meats. There's different pastas; oils & vinegars as well as jams, chutney's and pickles. Foodie heaven in an era of mass produced goods sold by large retailers. I'd far rather shop here than the local Tesco Express.You really have to watch your wallet when you go in as there's so much to tempt. Good news is that they have a maximum 5 star food hygiene rating as well which is essential for this kind of fresh food.

We loved the service and choice in this deli right next to the market off the Shambles. Great place to get those interesting items for supper or a picnic. Not a restaurant

This is definitely not a restaurant; they sell quality meats, cheese and spreads. They do offer a wide range of sandwiches cut while you wait. My favorite is Special Reserve Wensleydale (with a bit more bite than the regular) with olive jam on a fresh Yorkshire breadcake. Prices are reasonable and you can take your sandwich to Kings Square, to the Museum Gardens, or anywhere else you like for lunch. The service has always been especially good and pleasant. You might have to wait a few minutes at lunchtime, but that is because the sandwiches are worth waiting for.

I would never eat here again. The owner is obnoxious and we ordered a selection of salads and dips, pates but both of us had terrible food poisoning.

Ok, so it's not a restaurant. Nevertheless the best soup and sandwiches to be had in York plus a fine range of cheese etc.
