Will never go back, food lukewarm and bland. Constantly hassled by tote girls to place bets on dogs. Dogs didn’t look happy or healthy, hardly excelling in animal welfare.

Upon arrival rats were roaming the car park, rubbish everywhere. Sadly nothing improved as we entered the venue. Looked like a building site, health & safety non existent. Again rubbish everywhere, entry was free and programme too. Boxing Day is usually packed out, but guess covid has a big part to play. No food on offer, no totes anymore so couldn’t really do your traditional betting. There was a bookmaker available. Tannoy system very poor and commentary and results could not be heard. Looks like The rumours of it closing down look to be true as place was run down and neglected. Certainly not a family friendly anymore RIP Henlow Stadium.

We attended for a Christmas meal and ‘disco’ it could not have been further than what was advertised. The food was packet food, all veg was out of a packet, not homemade. £38 for a 3 course meal that most probably could have been bought from Tesco for £5 in total. It was a quiet night so would expect the atmosphere to be less inviting however the betting was enjoyable, it was advertised as a Christmas venue and disco, however the only table in there was ourselves, the lights on as bright as possible in a Solent room with no music. The servers kept forgetting drinks even though we were the only table in the whole venue which was slightly odd. Would not recommend eating there.

A really fun day out. Although surroundings a little tired, staff could not be more welcoming and accommodating. Clearly a lot of people were regulars, who also were lovely, helping us understand the racing form, not that it helped us (LOL) We had such a fun time, definitely go again, what you paid for is exactly what you got, along with good banter from the regulars.

Been to Henlow dogs many times and always had a good laugh. It may not be to every ones taste but the place is a warm, friendly and professional setup. Food and beer prices are reasonable. Deals can be bought online from their website, details of any seasonal, special functions can also be found here. The function room is ideal for the larger work get togethers if you don't fancy standing track side. Whatever you go for there's always a great atmosphere, other sports are streamed, aired on the bars Tv's. Plenty of Windows to place bets. Parking is free. Prices and opening times are posted online. Overall a pleasant experience.

This was the second time we have been greyhound racing, with the first time being at Towcester, which was very enjoyable, but Henlow leaves a lot to be desired. We booked through Groupon as a party of 6, with a free drink and hot dog and chips each. We entered the car park and immediately thought that the place could do with a bit of TLC, and our opinion was strengthened when we entered the bar and the "bistro". The bar area is very small so was full, and the tables in the bistro were not cleaned so we sat outside under the tents. Unfortunately, someone decided to take a wizz against the track wall in front of us! On a positive note, the dog races were fun and the bar staff and totes were friendly and helpful. With a bit of investment, this could be so much better.

Invited by friends we all went to the races on the Sunday afternoon. Staff were friendly, menu is basic but we all opted for various Sunday lunches, 2 courses for £12.95. Food arrived hot and everybody finished their plates off. In between time we were watching and betting on the dog racing. Bets taken at the table or you can go outside. Venue was nice and clean and professionally run. Having won as well I cannot complain and would definitely visit again.

Took my little girl here on Saturday It’s quite shabby and in need of of some investment and tlc. It just looks really run down in all areas. Free admission drinks quite expensive and food average, burger and chips style Greyhounds worked well and seemed well organised although no Tote and only 3 bookies. Minimum £2 spend It’s a shame because it could be a great family day out if they had some investment better food, more pleasant tidy family areas and facilities, maybe even a kids play area swings slides climbing frame etc (something to encourage families to stay) We left after 3 races and several other families were also leaving. Hope they can take it forward and make it more compelling I’d give them support and go back if they do

Went as big family party pre ordered meals as requested on phone Told we can order starter or desert on day as part of two course deal , we was seated after a while and asking several of the young staff if they was gonna take the order for starters we was told they were coming, after another 15 mins our mains appeared we explained no one had taken our starter orders to be greeted by a few shrugs of shoulders We took meals which to be fair were ok then after we asked if we could have the starters to be told in no uncertain terms no can’t do that In hindsight we should of sent meals back until we had starters but as it was all plated we went with it , so we asked for a refund on the starters to be told no refunds! So we asked to see the manager who in fairness resolved the situation and was full of apologies Now our problem was the young staff who without any supervision stood in ear shot talking amongst about us which is highly unprofessional and rude this really needs to be addressed before we ever come back which is a shame as it’s normally a good family day out

We went this evening on a groupon deal for four £15. Don't bother with groupon, four drinks were less than £15. The chips and hotdog were inedible, we watched her put frozen chips in the fryer and they came out brown. The woman cooking was horrid, unwelcoming, slapping the food together. The oil must be months old. We watched her cook chicken nuggets they were unrecognisable! It's a good evening despite the place being really shabby The totes are nice and helpful. We had no idea which dog won without asking as there are no announcements or boards. We will return but would eat in the restaurant, shame really, how wrong can you go with a fryer.

as the price of everything continues to rise, a night at the dogs must be one of the best nights out you can possibly have, at £17 for a decent 3 course meal on a sunday which includes entry and free parking it is a lot less than you would pay for a similar meal in a pub restaurant. the decorations may need a coat of paint, but i would always trade good company and a nice atmosphere for fancy surroundings any day. the staff are very friendly and polite and it was good to see such a big crowd for a sunday evening. if you discount all the scare stories told to put you off and take time to speak to the real dog people involved in the sport you will have a really good night out in friendly surroundings

Made my first ever visit to this stadium on 9th February. The"restaurant" was very cold, as the heating had apparently broken down, the food (bog standard fish & chips) was late coming, and the pa system, giving information on the dogs and commentary on the race itself was inaudible. The heating did eventually "kick in" just before 10pm. I was persuaded to make a return visit on Thursday last week, 23rd March. Things were worse. The pa system was as bad as ever and inaudible in the "restaurant", the projected image from their trackside camera was very grainy, so you could hardly make out the numbers of the dogs as they hurtled round, and was also in black & white, so you couldn't even see the colours of the dogs' jackets!! The projected image was also spilling off the screen to the wall to the side of it. To make matters worse, the evening was also spoilt by there being no Tetley ale available (the only ale they have on tap). The food, again bog standard fish & chips, was nothing special. My second and final visit. Avoid. Incidentally, I emailed the management of the venue, but they have failed to reply, which was to be expected, judging by their cavalier attitude - a request was sent from the restaurant to speak to the manager regarding the matters outlined. A reply came back saying that if we wanted to speak to him, he was "in the top bar". An excellent way to treat customers.

This was the first time I have ever been dog racing. I went with a group of 20 friends. This is not an evening to worry about the food. We went on a Thursday night & it only cost £9.50 for entry, a race card & meal. We had all decided to have fish & chips but there were other options. You can also pay extra for a dessert. There is a bar. There were 12 races on the evening we went. you can watch through the windows or on the monitors. I have to agree with other reviewers, you cannot hear anything on the public announcement system, they really should do something about that. The fish was an enormous piece of battered white fish served with chips & garden or mushy peas. I enjoyed it & would be happy to go again after all what can you get by way of an evening out for less than £10 these days. It does cost more I believe on a Saturday night. I would be happy to pay a bit more if the food was better.

10-15 years ago coach loads of beer happy punters flocked to this venue, even I provided 100s of distribution workers to corporate nights out …’Going to the Dogs’; a very popular past-time in the 20th century. It’s now 2017, its 21st century and taste and fashions have changed; and going to the dogs is quite literally, what is happening to this site, mainly due to investment and punters not supporting in their droves.Investment by its owners has mainly been directed towards the welfare of its animals with the very basic of external furnishing given over to the sporting greyhound enthusiast and a restaurant which needs TLC. Henlow’s stadium gives of an air of a greyhound dive where doggy deals (sorry for the pun), are done by rouges and shadowy characters out of some Ian Rankin crime novel. In reality, admittedly, its seen it heyday, its zenith has passed some twenty years ago, under a different management and subsequent owners just haven’t put in the investment that’s really required to keep this entertainment base a thriving community.May be you fall into the camp where you feel watching an animal chase after a model hare is a cruel sport? Or you feel it’s a sport left over from 17th century bare knuckle fist fighting, 18th century bear baiting or the 19th cock fighting? All Middle England country pursuits! Do you feel it should be sanitised into our 21st century digital World via a game box? Whatever, your thoughts it’s a sport of a bygone era, somewhere on the original free Thursday night and now mainly set up for a weekends where greyhounds (extremely fit ones) can show off their stamina in racing. I just wonder what happens to those greyhounds that don’t make the grade for their owners and win them rosettes and trophies. Do they live out their doggy retirement days in comfort? Sadly, this sport has had a very bad press and been soured over the decades, that mud eventually begins to stick.Walthamstow in East London and White City in West London where the pinnacles of this sport now all gone . . . the inevitable house estate has replace these sporting Meccas. Henlow and Peterborough still remain; at least one of them will eventually become another housing estate! The death kneel has been rung as RAF Henlow, as it will close in five years’ time and the base from 2017 has been sold off by the MOD to property developers. The vast military clientele and the surrounding country villages which once populated this weekend sporting dive are now depleting. A valiant fight-back by its current owners, try to resurrect the pasts enthusiasm for this dying sporting entertainment. Again and again, with newspaper advertisements, the owners try to entice their customers to come and enjoy an evening of lively sport … at really budget prices. Why stand out in the cold when you can sit in reasonable comfort, drink, be merry and eat. Most gastro pub/restaurants in the countryside rely on their chefs, it’s the chef’s culinary skills and management talents that make a venue sparkle and the word of mouth buzz rockets around a community saying that’s the best place to eat and drink. Finding those culinary chef’s at a weekend you have to pay a King’s ransom. Yes, I have eaten at Henlow’s greyhound venue; you either pre-order your food or allow your stomach to experience a fast food nightmare from an outside greasy van. Of course, any sane person would go for a pre-cooked meal; you will be surprised at the queues standing around for fast food swilled down by an alcoholic beverage or two. Maybe the dumb young punters, they think the alcohol will kill the bugs?My meal was comparable with me eating at The Crown or The Airman on A505 Stotfold/Shefford bypass, good wholesome food. (You may read my current 2017 reviews for both these local establishments here on TripAdvisor); in my local opinion not the cuisine I seek, remember you are paying budget prices. Have Henlow’s Greyhound Stadium owner’s paid their King’s ransom for their chef?

This is not a good night out, the wine list is exclusively Echo Falls so if you are looking for something that won't give you an evil hang over you have to go for the Prosecco. I was informed that they had run out of Prosecco as they had been busy, this was at 7.30 on a Saturday evening. We then had to wait 2 and half hours as the serving system seems to be to feed each table individually, which meant every other table had eaten starters and mains even before our orders where taken.Apparently there is table service for drinks but this seems exclusive for the un-engaged staffs friends as there seemed to be no-one in charge. The food was basic but edible but when you work it out not great value. We brought our own birthday cake for our event which was served after the terrible disco started, this was served by a waitress who was to busy dancing and gesturing to her friends to even bother to think to bring a knife or plates to serve it, these where never brought out in the end.If you remember when a night at the dogs was 12 or 13 races you will be shocked to know they now only put on 7 races but these are so poorly supported that no race had all six dogs running and there was 3 races with just 3 runners. Subsequently in these races the odds are so appalling there is no point even betting. If you wish to have a fun bubbly night out, look elsewhere, this is run for the benefit of the staff and their friends and you will only spoil their evening.

We were a group of 6 who went to the a la carte night on a Saturday whilst watching the racing. The set up and entry was great. The food was as expected for the price - average. The table service was very poor = it was like having non speaking robots who delivered the food - ie dropped the plates of food off and walked away quickly without any pleasantries such "as do you need anything else such as sauces etc?" It was the same with the glasses for drinks they would come and collect an empty glass without asking if we wanted a replacement. Yes they were all young staff but some basic customer service training should be done. Despite the porr service we did enjoy ourselves.

The staff are friendly and hard working and the atmosphere is first class. It is very a traditional night out in a pleasant friendly venue. Sadly this sort of venue is not as common as it once was and we are poorer for it. The table to the front had eaten and left! 9.05pm another of our group went again to check where our food was. Again told we were next. Apologise no one had told us about the delay the kitchen was having and complementary rolls and butter would be served with our meal.9.15pm food starts being served, rolls and butter on its way.. The fish and chips looked lovely, but full of bones so this made it less enjoyable to eat.The Burger undeniable... It looked like a cheap frozen pattie, cooked until it was so dry it actually snapped when I picked it up.No one asked if our meal was ok and the rolls and butter came out a further 20mins later, just as everyone (apart from the burger eaters) were finishing.Dirty plates remand on the table until a young lady who looked like she really didn't want to be there came and collected how dirty plates. I tried to get her attention when she asked if meal ok to say no it wasn't but as quick as she asked the question she walked off!Really disappointing advice is to eat before you go and not waste any money on the £8.00 deal.

We had our Xmas Party here, approx 24 of us, we had two rows of tables next to eachother, the food was surved with minimum of fuss and everyone of us was very surprised at how good it was, the choices we were given before the party seemed extravagant for a Dog racing stadium and i think we all had doubts they could pull it off, They did and did it well, plates were cleared away promptly, each course arrived without you feeling rushed, the time between courses was perfect, allowing enough time to chat and mingle before next course, placing bets throughout the evening added a bit of fun to it all, all in all a very good night

i went with friends for one if the special Christmas nights. For the money we paid the food was disgusting. We had booked the first time sitting, the outer door to the restaurant was broken so propped open, with a continual stream of smokers in and out, we sat freezing. The starter was ok, but the main course ugh! Turkey just prepacked, roast pot ok, and Yorkshire, but the veg had come out the freezer and just seen hot water. Dishes were cold. Splodge of gravy. Dessert, cheesecake fine as that was just a large one cut. Some had a hot pudding described as sticky toffee, it was black treacle, hot on a freezing plate! We enjoyed the dogs, made a little profit,, didn't stay for the disco as by then cold and fed up. Never go there again for a meal, at that price!

Pleasantly surprised by the sophisticated menu, delicious food and attentive, polite staff at The Winning Post Restaurant. In our party of sixteen (including two young children) every dish, expertly cooked to order and cheerfully delivered to our table, was well presented and extremely tasty. Our table was actually situated by the winning post, with the convenience of bets being taken as we dined and with the benefit of big-screens (situated to view the races from every angle), there was a great up-beat ambiance in this fully booked popular venue. This is a well managed restaurant with plentiful, friendly, well trained, carefully picked staff.

We attended the Henlow Greyhound Derby Final on October 26th as part of the Racing Post group. The drink service was fantastic and the food was delicious. The waitress team were friendly, attentive and professional. The entire Henlow team made us feel welcome and the quality of service was very high. It is no surprise that the restaurant gets so busy, and it's great that the tote operators take your wagers whilst you are eating. The view of the track from the restaurant is amazing and the plentiful amount of screens throughout the entire stadium means you never miss a moment of the action. The atmosphere is electric and I can highly recommend Henlow for a fantastic night out at the dogs!

We visited tonight and I was so sad to see that the food quality has really gone downhill. This is our 3rd visit. We were blown away by the food the 1st time as the value for money was superb. Big, home cooked, tasty Sunday roast with a massive portion of sticky toffee pudding. Tonight we had a lamb chop with unseasoned veg, hard potatoes and a cheap shop brought dessert. Staff are pleasant but I don't expect to have to leave my food mid meal to go and ask for condiments. The setting is no frills but that's ok, we go for the racing and a hearty Sunday roast. Sadly the food was terribly lacking. It's still a good value night out if you went for a different food option which is hopefully better than we had.

I love this place I always go into the restaurant in the winter the staff are brill you dont have to move they come round and take your bets and pay out when you win!! watching the dogs races is fun and the dogs enjoy it too. The racing is face paced so you dont get bored. The meals are a set price so you know how much the evening will cost. You get a starter main and pudding which are always tasty. Their is a disco afterwards aswell to round off the evening. Great night out!! :)

Lots of fun and often on Groupon or Wowcher deals can work out about a fiver on those deals its about £12 normally. including a snack, drink and entrance so really good value.Good venue well equiped and bets from a £1 a dog so really fun and something different for an evening. Lots of food options from a proper meal to a hot Dog all at very sensible prices. Highly recomment for a fun night out with your frinds. On a Fri and Saturday there is even a Disco after the racing stops.

I went here for a 50`th birthday party and have never been here before. The venue was a little smaller than I was expecting from the website photos as I had been previously to other greyhound tracks. However I found it to be really friendly and the staff were excellent. The food did take a while coming out but it was packed with many other party groups and I didn't really mind as it was all nice and hot. The piece of fish was huge for the main course and many people could not eat it all. Overall I thought the food was good for the price we paid (£20) and everyone had a great night. Get there early for a window seat if you can as it is right next to the track with a great view. They even have some nice friendly ladies who come round and take your bets at the table and pay out winnings if you are lucky right there and then so no queue at all.I Would highly recommend a visit here I will Definitely be going here again.

We paid a few pence less than £18 for a 3 course meal. We went on a Sunday night, and I had Chicken Satay (freshly cooked) a massive and superb roast beef, and very delicious and very filling sticky toffee pudding (again home cooked). My wife had the same, but for starter had bahjis, which were probably pre-made, but were still nice enough. The food was really good for the money, and I would rate it as equivalent of a very good pub meal in the traditional mould (i.e not truncated gastro-pub affair!). The portions were massive and it definitely did the trick for a Sunday night! It's worth bearing in mind that entry to dog tracks is normally around £5 per person, and with the meal came free entry. So I treat a meal at the dogs as -£5 per-person off cost. The service was friendly and efficient. The setting is what you expect for a provincial dog track, it's not the Ritz, and it's not Royal Ascot, it's the dogs. But you get an okay view and table for the night. The room was like a smart social club, not as dapper as the main Restaurant at Walthamstow used to be, but a meal at the 'Stow would have cost 3 times as much. If you want to go for a really smart meal at the dogs (and pay 2.5 times as much) the Pavilion restaurant at Romford is superb, but that's pitched at a different level. We will go back to Henlow, and not infrequently. The restaurant is a great night out, and a real giggle, superb place if you don't fancy doing any cooking on Sunday and want to let your hair down in an in-formal setting. Thanks for the great night.

A birthday party brought us here, and to be honest I quite enjoyed the racing. We were sat in the dining area right next to the track and it was great fun.The trouble started when the food finally arrived.... It was essentially inedible. The deep fried Brie, the burger, the fish and chips.... All really poor quality. To be fair to the staff they listened to our complaint of gave us free drinks as an apology, but I cannot in all conscience recommend the food to anyone. So go, bet (if you want), enjoy the racing, but do it from outside the restaurant....

Oh Dear, another Pub totally unaware of the current disability regulations. There isn't a ramp, there are even any same level flooring, upon enquiring with one of the staff regarding access to the premises, by one in a wheelchair, we were curtly reminded that this was a traditional Public House, who don#t cater for those with mobility issues! Such a shame as my friend had his legs blown off in Afghanistan, and is a hero.

What a disappointment - we went to the pumpkin patch with 3 grandchildren. The activities there were not well maintained, on the Mini Tractor Trail the tractors would not move due to being placed on damp lumpy grass, the Spooky Mini Golf had definitely seen better days. We paid an extra £5.99 per child for Chocolate Apple Dunkin when booking online which consisted of a very small apple on a stick which was then dipped in chocolate and sprinkles

Possibly the best kebab I’ve ever had. Instead of serving in a standard pita they hand make a naan and cook in front of you which tastes superb, plus the amount of meat and salad added is both sizeable yet appropriate. There’s a few tables for dining in which were clean and the staff were friendly enough. This will be my kebab place of choice from now on.
