The location is superb and the serving staff were courteous if a little inexperienced. However I was very disappointed with my lunch which had as part of the starter watercress. This was served up to me with yellowing leaves. I fedback my observation but there was no apology Main dish of smashed peas, gnocci(which was over cooked and hard) and feta was mediocre. Keep yourexpectations low....

A really nice hotel in one of the most stunning locations in the UK the views are mid-blowing. Rooms are spacious well appointed lovely walk in shower. Upstairs rooms most expensive because of the view but garden rooms better suited to oldies who don’t like steps. Food is a fabulous fine dining experience with excellent caring staff . Outdoor swimming pool with steam room and jacuzzis. Spa unfortunately not open as advised. A fabulous location with easy walks a must to visit again

We visited here during a storm and were made to feel most welcome even though we were soaked to the skin. We were allowed to hang our wet clothes in a drying room whilst we ate our lunch. Highly recommend the crab sandwich but a couple on the next table had the fish and chips which looked delicious. The lounge and bar area are very comfortable and cater for everybody's needs.

Called for drinks whilst walking around the island. Dog allowed inside which was nice. The place is very well cared for and to a high standard. Lots of lilies in the area which can give me a headache unfortunately so didn’t stay too long. Also felt a bit let down by the view, not really overlooking the sea despite the name nor near hell bay which I had wanted to visit. Prices seem high, 7.50 for a bag of fudge you can buy for 4 in other venues, although it is nice to see locally produced items. The hotel does seem popular and dishes brought out looked to be good portions and freshly made.

I had a wonderful stay here in early July, I really cannot fault it. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and they make a mean cocktail! Our room was spotless and very well appointed. Different people have different ideas of their idyllic place. Mine is a small island with ever-changing weather and an exceptional hotel. That's Bryher and Hell Bay. Large and lovely suites, a first class restaurant, friendly and endlessly obliging staff, impressive art works, and situated steps from wonderful walks and unmucked-about with nature ... for me, that's idyllic.

No wonder this hotel scoops a prestigious UK Hotel award every year. Run by Philip Callan, his wife & very professional staff. We have stayed here before although 20 years ago. Its since been improved considerably. We love Bryher, the hotel is situated overlooking the sea directly opposite Bishops Rock lighthouse on the horizon. Service great. Food very good - not Michelin but you don't want that if your are staying more than one night. Room on 1st floor was spacious & well set up, although our only negative comment would be the 1st floor balcony we had was too small to enjoy. Would we go back? Yes - so there is the best recommendation.

Was unable to order petit fours to eat in the lounge because we hadn’t eaten in the restaurant. I would have thought that they could make some extra ones and make them available to non dining guests. Old fashioned cocktail should have some orange peel garnish.

We’ve been visiting the Isles of Scilly for 35 years and have at last got round to eating an evening meal here. Maybe it was just the day we went, but I was disappointed for our vegetarian friend who really wasn’t catered for on the menu of the night. That said, the rest of us tucked into our meals with relish. Hell bay provided a good meal. Unfortunately we were let down by the lack of staff. We visited on 4 occasions throughout the week (only ate once). Every time the place looked messy with glasses and crockery on vacant tables (not the fault of the bartender when he/she was the only person around). A few more workers may help cheer up the staff as they were reluctant to say ‘goodbye’ on the way out when they were simply standing behind the bar. This bar area did not live up to the standards it is known for.

The incredibly efficient and welcoming staff lead by I think a South African head/bar manger was a treat, a table for our party of 8 was arranged without any fuss and by the time we had ordered our drinks at the bar! The food was unbelievably great here, the only difficulty was choosing what to have, and when the food arrived we all agreed that every dish would have been eaten by all of our party! I had the mussels and was not disappointed, there was definitely no room for dessert as the portion sizes were so generous. We always stop here on our visits to the island and love the view and the ambience. Lunch menu is not extensive but perfectly adequate. The Greek wrap was excellent and the ham sandwich bursting with meat. The tea (tea pigs) was perfect but perhaps on a windy day a tea cosy would help. The wicker seats in the garden are comfy but would be even better with some cushions. A personal preference would be to serve the sandwiches etc with a little salad rather than crisps but others may disagree. These are very minor suggestions to further enhance the already excellent food and seating outside. Staff were excellent as always.

Staying at St Agnes for 2 weeks, it's great to catch the local boat to island hop & taste food on the other islands. We have great memories of the food at Hell Bay Hotel from past holidays (just wish we could afford to stay there!) & this time was no exception. We had a superb lunch there twice - only wish the boat went more than once per week, as we would have loved to have tried more items off the menu! We had the soup (on both occasions) as a starter, & then the tipsy half rack of ribs, on a bed of home made slaw with a side (enough for two) of their superb twice fried chips. My husband also managed to squeeze in a sticky toffee pudding on our 2nd trip there! Lovely, lovely friendly staff, who made a big fuss of our two Dalmatians. The meals there were one of the highlights of our holiday, making up for some disappointment with meals at the pub on our island. We can't wait to return!

Wir gingen dort in die Cafeteria, um die Speisekarte zu checken. Der Raum selber war recht nett, aber sehr voll - und es hat sehr (unangenehm) nach Essen gerochen. (St)Celeriac soup - deliciously balanced, not too creamy, not to "celery" tasting... Hearty honest bowl of loveliness. (St)Scallops with black pudding - a great looking dish that tasted device. The scallops were meaty and browned to perfection to give that slight crust before breaking through to the tender, delicate meat. Just delectable! (Mains) We both had the Bouillabaisse... The base stock was the best I've ever had. The depth of flavour truly exceptional... Obviously no corners are cut in what I understand to be a long laborious task with this dish. We struggled to get a boat from Tresco to the beautiful island of Bryher. Tresco Boat Services changed the timing of the boat we hired and then the boat which we booked failed to turn up. Another, kindly, boat captain of a different fleet offered to take us and then the Tresco Boat services boat arrived. Tresco Boat Services seem to operate on the chaos principle. But, when we eventually arrived at Hell Bay hotel after a walk across the island (only about half a mile) and a visit to the local church, which was simple and delightful, we found Hell Bay set in a picturesque little bay facing the Atlantic Ocean. It is a charming hotel comprising a collection of buildings containing bedrooms of differing standards, including a number of exquisitely appointed suites. The main building houses Reception and the Bar & Restaurant. We had lunch on the terrace overlooking the bay. My wife had the Hell Bay bouillabaisse, which she declared was the best ever…even better than she has eaten in the South of France. I had the Smoked haddock and curried mussel gratin, parmesan and parsley crumb, which was superb by any standard with lots of big juicy mussels and chunky pieces of smoked haddock. One portion of chips was sufficient to keep us both adequately supplied throughout lunch. Accompanied by a glass or two of French Rose, this made for an excellent lunchService was quick and efficient, even though the bar was very busy

The islands as a whole but Hell Bay hotel in particular are stunning. The hell bay hotel is set in the most beautiful part of the island. The food here is really stunning, matched by the attentiveness of the staff. All in all this place is stunning.

All the menus offered a nice range and choice, breakfasts were fantastic (amazing croissant and pain au chocolat) and for the evening meals always excellent starters, mains and especially the puddings, (also petit fours were all made in house) and complimented by a nice wine list, couldn't fault the food or service at all and we like our food and cook well at home.

We recently stated for a week on the beautiful island of Bryher. Although we did not stay at Hell Bay we booked a couple of meals there in advance of our visit to ensure we had somewhere to eat in the evening. We had a meal in the restaurant to celebrate my partners birthday (£45 per head for canapes, starter, main course, dessert, and tea/coffee and petit fours) and I cannot fault it. For starter, main course and dessert there were 4 choices for each. Each course was beautifully presented and the combination of flavours worked perfectly. The staff were very polite and efficient and not at all intrusive. Also the views out over Gweal Hill were to die for!We also had a bar meal at the hotel. We both had the burger (about £13) which, again, was perfectly cooked and presented.

Excellent location on Bryher within a easy walk from either quay. Lunch was served by friendly staff on the large enclosed terrace. Crab sandwich being the favourite and excellent value. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Disappointing stay We stayed in Room Eight & we booked a double room. The room was basement level and was tiny with low ceilings, smelled heavily of chemicals and later mold. We had to keep the windows open but unfortunately the one small window opened out onto a busy road. The road was meters away from the window and the cars go fast, so it was really noisy day and time The bath was narrow and not full length and weirdly sticky. Really disappointed with our stay as we'd read such lovely reviews and the pictures (which are of different rooms to ours) looked so nice .

We can recommend going to Knightor for many reasons but especially the wine tasting we along with two friends had an amazing time and learnt a lot about wines and the wine making process, The wine of course is excellent but the day was made even better by our host Wayne whose knowledge of wine is excellent but more than that he has a fantastic way of explaining things, he is funny and genuinely a nice chap. If you haven’t tried Knightor for wine tasting then booking a slot is a must and ask for Wayne

Great food, great choice of music and good cocktails. Particularly a fan of the Moonshine Cocktails, I had Pork Belly Roast and all was cooked to perfection. 5*

Fabulous fish - I had crab, scallops and sardines. Perfect for one! With some bread, of course. Started with a Cornish Pastis - that's right, aperitif, not meat and turnips in pastry. Very friendly service and a gorgeous view over the harbour as dusk fell. Cannot recommend strongly enough!!

Beautiful setting overlooking lush gardens. Excellent, attentive service. Bread basket provided which was a nice touch. Had the Cornish lamb with lynonnaise potatoes which was very tasty and perfectly cooked vegetables. Wine list, bar drinks and good Prosecco served in small bottles.
