Helen's Diner in Mid Devon

Lovely breakfast in a nice, clean environment. Nice friendly staff. There are plenty of areas to sit outside if you have a dog or the weather is nice.

Again, had a Brilliant Breakfast at Helen's Service was second to non and breakfast cooked just as I liked it.Will definitely be back.

The places looks the part as an american themed diner - Tarantino posters, Marilyn Monroe statue etc. In the US though, customer service is generally excellent, which makes this place really incongruent. Aesthetics aside, it's really a glorified burger van. Food (beef, gammon) is often out of stock. One of our group had a roast where one of four lumps of chicken was completely inedible - it was a rock hard mess of gristle. None of us could figure where on a chicken this was from. Another had a chicken curry with chips which looked like half a tin of yellow Aldi curry next to a small pile of McDs fries, and three french bread slices. The food is at least cheap though, so that's somewhat forgiveable (I'm trying to be positive here). Worse though is the general grumpiness of staff - you feel like you're hassling and inconveniencing them by wanting to order or pay after. Everything is sighs, moans and frowns - they all seem super stressed and can't handle what they're doing. They should add a poster of The Goonies to the wall, because the woman in that seems to be more an inspiration than american diners. Even the young employee running around cleaning tables - I overheard an elderly customer say "you must keep fit" and the employee replied "its a pain in the arse". This isn't a great attitude. You will never hear "welcome! How can I help?" or "how is your food today?" or "is everything ok?" or "thanks for coming, see you next time!" or anything like that. If they upped their game with customer service and learned to smile and ENJOY running a business then it would be a huge boost to the place.

We live local and went up for ice creams with 2 young children. One wanted a cone the other a Sundae, both available and heavily advertised on their menu and website. We went to place our order and a very rude and flustered member of staff " no, can't possibly do a Sundae, far too busy for that" continuing to mutter under her breath. So we left, with 2 very disappointed children, and the toddler having a meltdown. Our first and last visit.

Decided to go with a group of friends for breakfast. Checked opening times before we left. Arrived 11am Saturday morning. Closed.

Easy to get to off the M5.. I'd describe it as an upmarket truck stop. Nice area to sit outside. Fast efficient service. Reasonable prices for excellent food. Kids eat free! Well done to all the staff and owners.

Not open until half 7, though it states clearly open by 7 which we came off motorway especially for! Very disappointing.

Discovered this diner last summer despite living in the area for 12 years! Now it’s our go to place for breakfast and burgers. Really good food and reasonable prices, this time my husband had the mega breakfast and I had a chilli beef burger with cheesy chips. Very filling and no need to eat much again all day. 5* and we’ll be back soon!

Having already walked 8 miles was a good place to stop for coffee. That was the intention! Ended up eating a breakfast baguette. Enormous but delicious. Would highly recommend. Didn’t really eat for the rest of the day!

As a family of 4 with an 11 year old and a nearly 2 year old we were just about to join the m5 and needed breakfast. We put in restaurants on our route on google maps and Helen’s Diner was a 5 minute detour.. We took a chance and went to check it out, not knowing what we would find as it was situated on a industrial estate. When we arrived we were surprised! It looked great and had loads of free parking and some nice outdoor seating as well. We sat at a booth and were told by the young waitress that she would come and take our order from the table. She did fairly quickly despite having walk in customer ordering take aways and she even brought over a highchair for us. Unfortunately the coffee machine wasn’t working but these things happen, we could’ve had a standard coffee but opted for juices. Our food came out really quickly and hot. The portions were crazy big! We had breakfast baguettes and sandwiches and they were all lovely. Definitely value for money. The kids were given a free bag of chocolate when we left and the staff were really friendly. Would definitely return to have another meal and to try the sundaes!

Best breakfast I’ve had! So tasty and the staff are very friendly. It’s such a lovely place to sit in and eat, love the American theme. I went for the mega breakfast and you get loads and for the price it’s such good value for money. I will definitely be coming back !

Don't be put off when you turn off the road into Business park, as you are in for a treat. Found this diner by Chance and thought we would try it for Breakfast on Sat morning. The diner is done out retro style. Lots of Elvis and 50s/60s memorabilia. The breakfast was great and hot,the staff were lovely as was the background music. Will definitely come back again when next in the area.

I enjoyed everything about that breakfast, it's very difficult to find anything to complain about!!!

Oh dear .. breakfast baguette ..sausages frozen type and tasteless bacon ok hash brown ok .. coffee like dishwater so over priced for quality of food wish we had pushed on and visited the garden centre !! Staff unsure of prices .. order was forgotten after 30 mins we asked a question and we were greeted with huffs and puffs cook came out dumped plate in table .. no condiments and no cutlery !! Dreadful !!

Visited there today very warm welcome by the staff. Very good service and very cheerful. Food was good hot and plenty of it. Coffee was good too plenty of parking and a clean environment.

Helens diner does an ok breakfast at a reasonable price, however when your told there will be a 50 minute wait for that breakfast is it worth the wait…….no. I do not mind waiting 15 to 20 minutes for food in nice surroundings but a wait of 50 minutes in a diner which isn’t the warmest place to sit and wait is taking the biscuit and in the long term will lose you custom. My advice is get yourself another cook and get your customers served quicker.

Came with family and sausages were pink to expensive and milkshake made a family member threw up. DO NIT COME HERE

Decent breakfast. Had the skinny breakfast and it was just the right size. Good quality bacon sausage and egg which makes all the difference. Polite friendly staff. And the reviews about the ‘lady with the red hair’ must of rubbed her up the wrong way....

We've been here a couple of times. Really good prices and food is always freshly cooked. Staff are friendly with a nice, relaxed attitude. Not really the place if you're dieting but they do provide salads if you prefer. Burgers are lovely and chicken chips...

Called in on the way to Diggerland for a big breakfast and was so glad I did. Breakfast was just right size, hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows for my son along with a child’s breakfast which turned out to be free! Lovely place and so very friendly. Will definitely return! Thank you

Lush food, friendly staff. Contacted the night before to check availability, they replied straight away. Visited with my sister, 4 friends and our baby nephew in pram. Friday mornings super busy so we were lucky to get it. So glad we did! Many thanks, we'll be back!!

Unfortunately despite checking the Facebook page on Sunday evening and Monday morning, this establishment was closed on a Monday morning. We were travelling to Devon as a family and had decided that, even though it would be a detour, we would have breakfast at Helens Diner. Establishment owners have a responsibility, even if there has been an emergency, to keep its clientele and prospective clientele informed. There is nothing worse than turning up at a business and find the doors closed.

Helen's Diner is gaining a very favourable reputation in the local area so I thought I would take a look. Situated on Hitchcocks Business Park, which is off the B3181 road which goes from J27 of the M5 south to Willand and beyond. A clear sign directs you off the road and gives directions to the generous sized car park next to the diner. Think forest wooden cabin or Goldilocks and the thee bears and you will have an idea what it looks like. Very neat and tidy outside with a wheelchair ramp and a lovely garden with shrubs, rose bushes and tables made from large wooden cable drums. Inside it is neat, clean and a blaze of colour from the table cloths to the wall decoration. The menu is comprehensive but favours the burger, chicken, sausage and chips type of meal, all at very reasonable prices. The all day breakfast for £4.99 is splendid value, cooked to order and brought to your table - love the tea as well with not a hint of a chlorine taste. Well spaced out tables so don't feel on top of anyone else. The staff are extremely friendly and the owner ensures that your meal is cooked to your requirements. You can pre-order your meal by phone and local delivery is available on orders over £10. I will be back as there are so many items on the menu that I need to try. I have two observations: I would prefer to see caps on the red and brown sauce bottles and my wife has commented that a mirror in the ladies toilet area would be appreciated. Don't miss this oasis if you are anywhere near Willand, particularly if you are a family and need a break from driving.

We drove down from Barnstaple to visit this restaurant as we were informed by friends how good it was. The breakfast we ordered was excellent! Absolutely delicious! Well worth the visit and we will be returning! Lovely setting, clean, friendly staff, great coffee! Thank you!

Was driving to another cafe and saw this one.It was a portacabin on an industrial estate,the decor was better than I expected.I had the £4.99 standard breakfast and it was probably one of the best i have tasted,and the service was very good.Would highly recommend Helen's Diner and i wouldn't hesitate to visit again if in the area.
