Excellent. I hadn't been to Helen's before. Had walked past many times and had heard how excellent it was.Four of us came for breakfast on Saturday morning as the first event on our daughter's Hen activities. The tearoom is clean and spacious.The staff are very smart and polite.There is a great choice for breakfast. I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs,it was delicious. One person had porridge.This came with sliced banana and toast.The bacon and sausage sandwich was well enjoyed as was the full English breakfast by two of us.

Excellent atmosphere, such a bright, clean, friendly place, singing staff, beautiful food, great coffee. We chose the quiche option which turned out to be part of a meal deal so included a pudding, I chose the christmas pudding and him indoors the apple pie. Everything we had tasted like it was home made and so nice. Excellent service from the staff, and plenty going on around us, the decor is charming and the selection of jams & chutneys is impressive. To think him indoors wanted a subway!!! We will be back next time we are in town. Thank you ladies, Merry Christmas.

I was gifted a voucher for afternoon tea at Helen’s Bakehouse. Eating out is often an issue because, as a coeliac, I need a gluten free version. I needn’t have worried! Staff were very helpful and friendly and gluten free wasn’t a problem. The afternoon tea was lovely and what I couldn’t finish was boxed up for me to take home. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Have been coming to this tearoom for years and is a regular place that I would meet friends. however the few times we have been we have been disappointed. Service isn’t as good, and prices have changed . It’s looking very tatty now. Wall paper coming off the walls is in need of a good tidy up and decoration. It’s also very cold and draughty so you eat quickly to go somewhere to get warm. Menu is limited, doesn’t cater for dietary requirements and when I asked about vegan/ vegetarian options I got a blank look. On a positive the food was lovely.

Had breakfast here this week, it was so good. Liked being about to mix and match and order what you actually want to eat rather than just a full English. We all had slightly different versions of a full English. It came delicious and piping hot. Staff really helpful and friendly too. Would recommend and return.

We were gifted an afternoon tea here. I didn’t even know it existed. Great selection of sandwiches, with coleslaw and crisps. Choice of white or granary bread, we had a mixture. Freshly baked fruit scone warm or cold with a small pot of jam and clotted cream each. We were then fit to burst so we had to bring home our choice of cake (slice of a ‘proper’ cake) from the display stand and a piece of tray bake each. As much tea and coffee as we wanted and fabulous music. Service was very friendly without being over the top. Would definitely visit again.

We had 2 x 7 items breakfasts and a roast beef dinner and we all needed a lie down afterwords! A pot of tea for one provided 4 tea cups and the rhubarb crumble and custard at £2.95 is a bargain! Friendly waitress was really attentive, we would definitely recommend.

Fantastic little tearoom! Do a great lunch deal. Coffee comes in a nice big homely mug. Sandwiches were delicious, generously filled.

Probably the best tearoom in town. The food is always superb, cooked in plain view on site along with the "shop by the till" for any takeaway treats on your way out. The prices are very competitive and the service is quick and friendly. And Helen is a darling!! We don't go often enough, to be honest, so when we do, it is a real treat!

Had a day out in Burton with my sister so before travelling we looked on Google for a place to go for breakfast,Helen's cafe came up so we decided to go there.Great choice,friendly staff,very attentive, lovely breakfast,lovely coffee,highly recommend it to anyone, reasonable price as well.

I would definitely recommend the butchers best breakfast as you can choose what you have from 4 items up to 8 items, the choice is very good. All the food was cooked fresh to order and cooked very well and was very tasty. Nothing is to much trouble for the staff and it is a lovely pleasant atmosphere.

Pleasant atmosphere and attentive service, lots of home made goodies on display. However my choice of meal wasn't what I expected, 'hand made' burger looked more like it was from Booker's freezer. Disappointing really as some of the other meals looked great. Never mind eh...

On a visit to Burton-on-Trent we called at Helens for breakfast to start the day off. Oh my words, what a breakfast it was. Staffordshire oat cake with cheese, 2x bacon, sausage, black pudding, fried egg, baked beans, toast and coffee. I've had a few breakfasts in my time and I now have to make a bold statement.... Quite possibly one of the best breakfasts I've had. Top quality ingredients, cooked to perfection, served by friendly, polite staff and all at a cost that reflects this, and is well worth a visit. We will definitely be back again.

We visited here on our first visit to Burton on Trent town centre. We were wondering why we'd bothered until we found this little place. They were very friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable. They were very efficient too, dealing with everyone well. I ordered Grandma's salad and my other half wanted only a croissant. Apart from having to pick celery out of my salad it was delicious. When one of the assistants saw what I'd done she said I could have asked for no celery. I (smiling) said it didn't occur to me that they would put something so disgusting on my plate that I'd have to mention it and she laughed. There was no awkwardness whatsoever. All the food coming out looked good. We saw some toast - they're not joking when they refer to it on the menu as thick toast. It looked mouthwatering. Before we sat down in here we saying we wouldn't bother visiting Burton centre again. We now plan to revisit.

Helen’s is our ‘go to’ place when we visit Burton. Always a friendly welcome, an excellent choice of freshly made tasty food, china crockery, quirky salt & pepper pots, embroidered table cloths, plus Marmite! Highly recommended.

On our usual Monday morning routine, we looked for another cuppa venue to the usual ones.Finding Helen's, were curious about its style. Some seating outside, far more inside. Such an extensive menu - Sunday deals, breakfasts, toasties, grills, salads, puds, junior choices, lists of coffees teas and chocolates; afternoon teas and gift teas.Homemade breads, scones, cakes to take out, with celebration cakes, sugar free cakes, buffets and business packages can be ordered. Gift vouchers are available.Allergen info available on request - this detail was in the small print so is not obvious, wifi for customers also available.We ordered porridge for one, bacon sandwiches for husband. Porridge arrived in a soup bowl - there was so much - with honey. Bacon was smoked but nicely done. Tea pots wore tea cosies, these being on sale at the counter. Loyalty card is in operation.Decor is a little tired, crocheted covers over sugar bowls, wonderful pairs of salt and pepper sets at each table, very expensive woven 70s fabric over wall seats.Service couldn't be more attentive without being OTT. This is certainly a marmite cafe. Is the whole experience OTT? Possibly so. Worth popping in for a cuppa, but the porridge, bacon sandwich, tea for two was £9.90, which I felt was a little expensive.This cafe is in a foody quarter of Burton, so we will extend our cuppa radius out to other venues over our next few visits.

Lovely vintage cafe with nice back ground music, friendly staff, food was lovely best cheese and beans on a marmite toast I've ever had followed by a yummy lemon meringue pie,,the best! Would highly recommend it 10 out of 10 menu choice for everyone

Just lovely, like you want a tea room to be, from the wallpaper to the table cloths, the china cups, a lovely calm athmosphere. Value for money with lovely food. Everything in the kitchen is visable, lovely local produce for sale as well. I was v impressed and have visited twice since.

I cannot recommend them enough! I am a regular customer that orders via Uber eats and I all go in in person. While I’ve never eaten in, I have sat in waiting for my order and it’s a lovely place, with a lovely atmosphere. I quite like the mismatched china they use. I’m pretty boring and always order the same thing but they always strive to deliver great food and great service. I’ve only had a slight hiccup once and to be fair it was probably my own fault but when I queried it with staff they were so helpful and lovely. They even provided a complimentary drink and piece of cake! I had never tried their cake before but that just showed me what I was missing. It was so moist and tasty! I definitely will order with them again and I would definitely take people there.

We needed a special cake making for a big 90th Birthday....the customer service was wonderful and made it a enjoyable process, we were absolutely delighted with the final result. The cake was absolutely beautiful, good value for money, high quality and just what we were looking for. It was delivered to our venue without a hitch. All of our guests said how delicious it was and were keen to know where it was from, so hoping they will pop in here when they can. Would definitely recommend, absolutely brilliant. Walked in to a warm welcome took a seat and browsed the menu, sausage and bacon from a local butcher and eggs from local farm massive tick, ordered two breakfast and WOW what a treat we had, food was perfectly cooked and tasted out of this world, good solid cup of coffee as well.

Came upon this quirky little tea room by total fluke and had a thoroughly nice cream tea. Everything is homemade on site , you can even watch them bake whilst sipping your drinks. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and everything else i didnt actually get to taste looked absolutely delicious. Thumbs up from me

Not a very big place, but big on quality and service. Great variety of menu choices from breakfast meals to light bites to proper dinners, always served quickly and always hot, fresh and tasty. Fantastic cakes of all kinds, home-made and delicious. Good value as well. The staff are so friendly and helpful and it always has a really pleasant atmosphere. I often take my parents there and they really like it too (and they’re quite picky octogenarians!). Recommended.

Popped in for a light bite on a Sunday lunchtime. The staff were lovely and friendly, the cafe is clean and cosy and the food was very tasty. The bacon sandwiches were delicious and the scones were perfection. More than reasonably priced as well. We will definitely be back.

Having been let down by another cake baker I rang in desperation to ask if they could do a birthday cake for the next day for my daughter's birthday. They did and not only was it £20 cheaper than the previous business we used, but it was delicious. Since then I have used them for an equally wonderful birthday cake and have had lovely lunches there twice. I am definitely going to be a regular customer at this friendly, homely, high quality tea rooms. So glad I found it!

On a first time visit to Burton we wished to avoid the ubiquitous Costa etc, so tried Helens.

If you want authentic afternoon tea then this is the place. Good choice of food and home made cakes. Settings very clean and staff very friendly. Reminds you of the good old days, they even play music of days gone by.

The best tea room in the area. Superb homemade cakes & plenty of choices, including diabetic cakes. tables set out in individual designs, Excellent, Friendly, Efficient service from the staff. Birthday cakes of any design made to order. Outside tables for the dry days.

This independent tea room is well worth a visit. It is very homely and the staff were all incredibly polite, helpful and patient without being in any way overbearing. The tables are close to each other but are all unique with their embroidered tables cloths, crocheted sugar basin covers and charming crust sets. The food though is the star. It is all cooked fresh to order with a good range of tantalising wholesome choices. Then there's the cakes - ooooh spoilt for choice and they all looked delicious. We enjoyed all the food we had and will definitely return. We even bought a sugar free cake to takeaway - just to pretend that we're healthy - and you wouldn't know it was sugar free.

I ordered a 21st birthday cake for my son. The cake was beautiful and Helen worked wonders on the design, which was very intricate as we asked for a game of thrones design.

My husband and I eat here twice a week ,one time with a deaf lady . The staff are friendly and helpful and they really put themselves out to accommodate all requests .The food is well cooked and really fresh good quality ingredients and the cakes and jams , wow ,gorgeous ! Well worth a visit for all this and great music from the fifties,sixties and seventies

Ate here today, pleasant staff and breakfast was ok, sausage on the small side and fatty bacon. Had better elsewhere. Coffee very poor served in a cup with lipstick marks! The cafe could also do with a deep clean as the table was sticky and had lots of bits under the plastic table cover - upstairs near the toilets is just a mess. Average. Probably won’t return.

We have just been to this amazing place for my sisters hen do. we had afternoon tea and I can honestly say I have never had a better afternoon tea for the amount of money we paid. it was great value for money the people were amazing and we had a fabulous time. completely stuffed by the end of it. even if you weren't having afternoon tea it looked like there was an amazing choice of other options and the cakes were to die for. defo recommend if you are in the area

I came here with my mum who bought my birthday cake from here and said it was worth a visit. I love little boutique, family owned businesses and this little tearoom is so quaint and lovely.

Today was my first visit to kill some time. Lovely, friendly atmosphere. I loved the vintage feel, it was great to drink quality tea from a china cup, the tea pot even had a tea cosy. I chose a small breakfast from the very varied menu which was great, loved the eggy bread. The staff were really friendly and there's a huge selection of cakes to eat in or takeaway. Will definitely been going back again, 10 times better than the impersonal department store cafe nearby.

What a pleasant change it makes to enjoy home made food and cakes in such a delightful cafe with the nicest of staff. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The choice of food is varied from quiche, sandwiches, beans on toast to full cooked meals and so much more, the desserts are mostly home made and taste gorgeous. They give you plenty to eat, and because its home made ingredients it takes divine.. I had the egg and cress sandwiches the best I've tasted in years. From now on whenever I visit Burton I shall always take my lunch at this little gem called Helen's Bake House

En ambas ocasiones la comida ha sido entregada y una presentación junto con toda la vajilla y cubiertos. Mi única queja sería que no pudimos probar todas de Santa Elena, porque la sabrosas delicias comimos todos los miembros de la audiencia. La comida no tuvimos oportunidad de probar fue increíble. . . . . . Justo lo que esperaba. Gracias a Helen.

Ordered my son's 18th Birthday cake from Helen and have to say customer service from initial enquiry to collecting the finished cake was excellent. The cake itself looked fantastic and better than I'd imagined and tasted great. Would definitely recommend.

We love this place. Everything is home made, the staff are very friendly and efficient, well priced and Helen is lovely. Our kids are always welcomed as well. We had a couple of delicious bacon and egg sandwiches on granary as well as beans on toast and scrambled egg on toast for the two kids. Everything was polished off as usual. Shame that I can't review it more often....always a treat and a pleasure! Thanks Helen!

Helen made my sister a beautiful tiered wedding cake, all different layers including chocolate and fruit cake. It looked and tasted amazing but the best part was the unbelievable repair job she did on their cake AT THE LAST MINUTE!! The cake got damaged in a freak accident on the way to the wedding venue OMG!! Helen literally saved the wedding by repairing and re-icing the top layer of the cake which had been garrotted by a car seat! Needless to say there were some tears but a very happy bride and groom when they saw that the cake once again looked perfect and all was well. Helen was calm and wouldn't take any extra money for dropping everything to help. She is an absolute star and deserves this 5 star rating. Excellent service and excellent cake! Very impressed

We popped in here on our first ever visit to Burton upon Trent as it looked like a good place to get something homemade as well as decent cup of tea - and we weren't disappointed! We had ham cheese and poached egg on toast which was so tasty on nice hand sliced bread toasted. We also had a hot chocolate and a pot of tea both were lovely.We were planning to have a cake too but the snack we had was too filling - so we decided to take a couple of cakes home with us - they were absolutely gorgeous!A definite must if you go to Burton upon trent!

After finding Helen's on tripadvisor, we visited 1st March for a breakfast treat after a visit to Burton Hostpital.Lovely friendly welcome and atmosphere. The breakfasts were delicious.Perfect poached eggs, thick toast, great quality bacon etc all finished off with a large pot of steaming hot tea. Tony took four cheese scones home...yes four!! We are back at the hostpital next week.. Helens.. here we come!

I visited Helens Bakehouse with my father and sister.My dad is gluten intolerant and suffers with mobility issues, so I contacted the staff to ask about their gluten free options, seating and parking.They emailed me with all the info and told me they could reserve me a big table near the window. I forgot to respond so we ended up with a small table up a corner which wasn't ideal for my dad, but entirely my fault!The tables are all very close but it is not really a problem. The crockery is charmingly mismatched with crocheted sugar pot covers and tea cosies. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The brunches we had were fab, definitely cooked like your granny used to! Poached eggs were perfectly runny and the bread slices, like doorsteps!We took cake to go which included a gluten free chocolate flake cake, victoria sponge and coconut and lime. They did not dissapoint. We also purchased jams and pickled onions in balsamic vinegar (gorgeous) and a 'suspended coffee'....an initiative where you purchase a coffee and it is suspended until someone in need claims it.All in all a rip roaring success and if I lived nearby I would definitely pop in again!

Helen's is a wonderful place to drop in for a breakfast or lunch. The staff members are always happy and smiling and Helen is always there, very hands on, to ensure that everything is going well for everyone, staff and customers alike. It was lovely to have some quality time with my daughter as we popped in to town for lunch after she had finished her dance classes. Scrambled egg on toast for her and a bacon, sausage and cheese sandwich for me, washed down with hot chocolate and all the trimmings, was a perfect pit stop and put us on til teatime! Helen's never fails to impress!

Wow. If only they have more places like this. I'm from Tamworth and regularly visit Burton. Shown this place by my mum and since been a number of times with several different people. Sometimes just for tea, sometimes a nibble. Kid friendly and a perfect spot for a refreshment. I must say this place reminds me of my grandma's but that's why I love it so much. Tea cups, tea pots, sugar bowl covers.. You can even buy tea cosieys :) See you again very soon xx

We have visited Helens Bakehouse most weeks for a while now. The staff are lovely, helpful and efficient. There is a lovely atmosphere in the tea rooms, relaxingly retro music and mixed crockery. Could happily sit people watching there all day, and watch the industrious cake making in the background. The food is always lovely, we usually go for breakfast or cake, it's always delicious. Today we had cherry crumble and custard. The custard is homemade. The whole thing was lovely. Definitely a big favourite.

I always come to Helen's Tearooms as a weekly treat. The breakfasts are great and the cakes are amazing. My husband bought my birthday cake from Helen's for my 50th. It was really nice and home made. I would recommend the afternoon tea too. The staff are very friendly and the service is great.

We've been twice now. The homemade cakes are amazing and the bread and all the produce they sell reminds me of an expensive deli but cheaper. We went again for pie and gravy dinner, fantastic value. The staff are all lovely and it's a nice atmosphere in there. Will definitely go again.

Had another lovely lunch here today. Food is homely, well cooked and always tasty. There's an excellent selection of meals and lighter snacks including sandwiches, salads, cooked breakfasts, pies, quiche, toast with toppers (mushrooms are lovely), homemade soup with cheese scone or bread. Then there are the delicious homemade cakes and scones and puddings. It's great to find somewhere that also sells reduced sugar scones and cake.Very friendly, welcoming staff, excellent service and very good value for money. Well worth a visit.

Charming little place on the market square. Staff are very friendly and you get great service.The food is of a very high quality with a huge amount of stuff baked in house. Also Helen supports local firms with great range of local produce. Eat in or take away.Quirky touches such as the teapots and crockery. Highly recommended.

Came here by chance the food was good honest grub. The service was great overall a great atmosphere we sat outside with friends. Nice place to have lunch and relax

I really love Helen's café. When I was at college it was just around the corner and they offer such cosy, homemade food for a really affordable price. The staff here are really friendly and familiar, after popping in the first couple of times, they recognised my face and always had a smile for me. Their Chocolate Flake Cake is to die for, simply lovely and reminds me of homemade food but with a little bit more professionalism (my cakes never look that good everytime!) I have been here a couple of times with my family for afternoon tea and that was ideal for the price we paid as well. Perfect sandwiches and such a good selection to choose from. But also, their breakfast sandwiches are really good too and such good value. I would highly recommend this place. Please pop in for a slice of cake if you're passing.

After checking trip advisor called here for lunch on Saturday, the cafe was full , but helpful staff reserved a table for us to call back 15 mins later.I had chicken sandwiches & wife had homemade quiche with new potatoes, served with bucketfuls of hot tea.This was followed with a slice of jam & buttercream cake ( perhaps a bit too sweet ) Food is excellent and cafe very popular, normally call @ M & S cafe for lunch , but if you want to support local businesses & want good vale then give this a try .

The whole family love Helen's - so does everyone else we think, as it is getting increasingly difficult to find a table here on the weekend of a lunchtime. Excellent value, friendly service with a smile, huge portions. Love it!

Breakfast at Helen's took me back 60 years: china plates, cups and saucers, and bacon, eggs and sausage as they used to be. The friendly, "family" atmosphere enhanced the experience: regulars are treated like old friends and newcomers like new friends.As well as food on the premises, there is a wide range of traditionally-baked cakes, scones and bread to take away. From the stairs, you can look into the spotlessly clean kitchen.Helen has joined with the Burton Belles WI to set up a "suspended coffee" scheme, an interesting project to help the homeless.
