Helal in East Lindsey

We visited Louth for the first time last weekend and chose to go to the Helal Tandoori. We are so glad we did. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and helpful.

Been coming here for years. We now stay at louth with our Motorhome on a regular basis just to enjoy the food here. It’s a wow!!! We even make special trips to come the food is the best and worth to travel too staff are great

An average experience. The restaurant was very busy, we did make an advanced booking, as it was the weekend. Very quirky and quant building with low ceilings. Got to the table, which had just bern cleared. Unfortunately no drinks menu on the table. We did ask on two separate occasions for one. Very extravagant prices for drinks, including non alcoholic drinks. The shared starter was probably the only thing to rate highly about the meal. My main was barely touched. My partner also seemed equally unimpressed with my main when he tried it. His seemed to be more palatable. Didn't bother to complain as it had already been a fairly long wait between starters and mains. Also ended up asking for the bill 3 times at the end of the meal which we never received, ended up having to go to the bar and waiting an extra 10 minutes to pay. Overall an average experience. Just will not be in any rush to return.

We’ve been coming here for years. The best Indian restaurant near us.. the staff are so helpful, friendly and got a great sense of humor. The food is fabulous and so filling. We have chicken korma, chicken tikka, lamb dopiaza, pilau rice, mushroom rice, garlic nan’s and Bombay potatoes… delicious (I forgot to mention popadoms to start with) Cannot recommend enough

The first thing we noticed was the stunning building inside and out! Staff were spot on and enjoyed a bit of banter which really relaxes you. Food...well what can I say the best I've had a d to be able to get a doggy bag is a bonus. Will definitely be back

Got recommended Helal Tandoori. For a change decided to eat in here must admit it was delicious! They aren't tight on the chicken in my dish which I like to see. We certainly will be returning!

Visited on a very quiet Sunday evening, and the food was excellent. Freshly cooked, beautifully spiced dishes with lovely baked nan breads. Generous portion size and reasonable prices. Friendly, attentive staff.

My bother Simon Clifford transported three beautiful dishes from Louth to Rochester (roughly 171 miles). The food was exceptional with the favorite being the lamb madras. Went down well after a few beers. The flavors, the heat and the perfectly cooked meat was all of a top standard and lived upto hype that surrounded this place. I will be visiting this restaurant next time in Louth. Joe

Having visited this every Indian restaurant and takeaway in Louth, i can honestly say this place is the best. I have had several takeaways and 5 different dishes and each time the standard of food and service has been exceptional. The longest i have had to wait for the food to be prepared was 25 minutes, and on each occasion, they have given complementary poppadom's and pickles. I keep meaning to take the time to have a restaurant meal as i can only imagine how good the food would be served immediately. Really friendly staff and they seem to have many repeat customers dining there. Highly recommended!! Very reaosnable prices

Booked a meal for 7.30. Finally got meal at 10pm. Service was terrible, drinks mixed up if we got one at all. Could not decipher the bill at all and due to being so late, taxi coming at 11, no time to check but seemed...

The most tender chicken we have ever eaten. We drive almost 50 miles to get to this restaurant and will continue to do so . Great building, fantastic staff and amazing food. You need to come here just for the sylhet delight it is out of this world with flavour great with rice and a mushroom and onion naan bread . Great value for money!!!

Four of use went for a meal on Wednesday evening, a warm welcome by the staff and great range of food all very well served we will be back soon.

The staff are so friendly when I entered the resturant it was warm and lovely and I was spoken to like royalty. The food was lovely, and the service very quick. I felt like the staff would account for all my needs.

Very clean, in comparison to the other Indian resturant in town this one had lovely tasting food a real amount of flavours and laid back chilled service which was lovely.

I have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. I live in mablethorpe but it's worth travelling to, even to get a takeaway. Just had the chicken tikka cham cham and it was jummy, big bits of chicken and pepper and onion. The garlic naan bread is always tasty with loads of garlic on. I love the poppadoms and pickle tray. So people if you want proper Indian food that taste jummy and looks jummy try this place. I guarantee you wont be dissapointed.

4 of us had lovely meals on Friday evening, nice restaurant and ambience, staff helpful and fun! Would recommend and certainly go again next time out for an evening in Louth.

We have been going to this fabulous restaurant for over 25 years. Every time we visit we are warmly met by the front of house staff and shown to seats without delay. The food is always top class and a beautiful quality and we are never disappointed with our meals or service. We visit weekly and have got to know the staff and have come to look on them all as friends.

Went to the Helal with my family haven’t been for a long time, it was packed with diners they were ever so busy, I didn’t even know there were three rooms.When we eventually sat down and had our meal,it was absolutely sublime a real taste of India the spices were cooked to perfection an absolute treat.The staff were brilliant made our evening great sense of humour would highly recommend.

Great Indian restaurant In Louth , is the Helal Tandoori. Slightly worn dated look inside, but comfy . Offering a wide rage of Indian dishes, some I have never seen , all super tasty and a really good vale price. Only annoyance was the staff, they seem flustered hard to grab their attention ( took some time the bill ) and even longer to two pay ..

We did not mind the long wait for the second course. There was plenty of food but some dishes were barely warm. The drinks are pricey and the food was not value for money. The staff were very friendly, a little too friendly sometimes. You had to have a sense of humour. When it came to pay the card machine did not work and we all had to pool our cash. The restaurant is in an old building which is not wheelchair friendly. Would give this place a miss in future.

Enjoyed a mid week meal and found the food of great quality and great value(starters less than £4) will be going back

My wife and I went this evening as a 2nd choice as we couldn't find a decent fish restaurant in our local town of Cleethorpes. So we decided to go polar opposite and book a table at Helal. From the moment new walked in we were greeted and made to feel at home by the staff. They couldn't have done more when it comes to service, and they were laughing and joking with us throughout the time we were at our table which just made for such an enjoyable time there. Then comes the food. I ordered the Pangash Special (Fish Curry) which was not just the best Asian dish I'd eaten, but one of the all time best things I've ever eaten. The spices and the heat were perfect, and the portion was very generous. My wife ordered the chicken Rogan Josh and we spent the whole car journey home taking about how good they both were, something we've never done. All I can say is that if you're ever in Louth in Lincolnshire and you want to taste the best Tandoori food then I highly recommend you try here. Simply amazing place!

I have been eating here for over 30 years. The food is excellent but the ambience and service are amongst the best i’ve experienced anywhere in the U.K. (I travel a lot with work). The guys who work and run this place are a friendly, chatty, hard working set of lads and nothing is too much trouble for them. My wife and I eat here regularly and we often have family meals here with our children and their spouses. It never disappoints.

I visited Helal on a lunch time recently with a group of 6 friends and everything from start to finish was faultless. We had the full works from poppadums to a range of main courses, including vegetarian dishes. They were delicious! Not one of us could have asked for more and the waiter was extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend Helal to anybody wanting a first class Indian meal / experience. Thank you!

This used to be a weekly dining destination for us but for last few months i just can't . They changed the Madras recipe which is our favourite . Even the chicken tikka last visit was nothing like previously ( 8 years) So until they get a decent chef never new there were different recipes. sure there was dahl in last curry. Which is not usually in Madras my body really does not cope with Pulses of any kind. shame we used to love it here

A most welcome greeting from staff the moment we walked in. The service excellent and the food also excellent with lots of choice. This restaurant is in a listed building and the quaintness adds to a perfect night out. This is an Indian restaurant not to be missed. We

Absolutely incredible food, they’ve recently updated their menu and have added some great new choices. The Royal Mix Special and Helal Sweet Chilli really stood out, looking forward to trying all their new signature dishes. Service attentive as usual nothing’s too much trouble. Very funny smell when we entered which we put down to the old building. Only 3 tables occupied as a Monday night but seated us near the door in a draught. On a positive pickle tray and yoghurt sauce were ok the red desicated coconut was however unusual! Popodums extremely oily. Starters - onion bhaji was tasty and freshly cooked my husbands tandoori chicken was freshly cooked but unfortunately not for long enough and the chicken was raw in the middle. We had chicken tikka kharari saag and it wasn’t good - tasteless and including tinned peas. Naan was ok and rice was poor. Service was rubbish. Won’t return.

having since visited again and since they have read my previous review they have now updated their menus to be much nicer quality. nice to see that they care so much about their image. the only thing it would be nice to add would be clearly vegan options on the menus but other than that value for money, tasty, nice setting, and great service. highly recommended.

I have eaten at many Indian restaurants across the country and must say the Helal is one of the best I’ve been too. A true authentic Indian experience, amazing food with so many different options, something for everyone. Staff were very attentive and couldn’t do more for you. Would advise to book on weekends gets very busy. Highly recommended.

For me and my family Helal is the best Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant in Louth, I often come to the helal with my family and friends the food is consistently delicious, and they are more than happy to adjust any dish to your liking. Very friendly service nothing’s too much my kids really love coming to Helal.

We visited for a birthday meal and were welcomed and shown to our table. As always the food was delicious, the service was excellent and the staff so friendly. Will definitely return.

Been here a few times with my client representatives. Not once had a bad meal and this visit was no exception. Beautiful mixed kebab to start, light and crispy breads, perfect mushroom rice and a lamb garlic chilli dish. Actually I was given a lamb tikka dish when I’d asked for lamb. This seems to be a common trend and it’s a waste of good lamb in my eyes. Anyway it was still pretty good! There was a mixed bag of service with some staff very polite and helpful and some struggle to crack a smile. Anyway all in all was a good experience and would definitely return.

My family have been eating at The Helal for over thirty years now and personally we always have a good meal.

Went with my mum (both of us are vegan) we ordered two mains (vegan on request) and split them in half so we could try both together. The food was tasty and filled us both. The service was nice and helpful. The server seemed to know the ingredients of all the things we asked about and said if they were vegan or if they could be made vegan. The only down sides were the menus were very old and there were no vegan options listed at all. Other than that a lovely place. Not too expensive and worth the money. Recommended. We hope to go again sometime.

A group of us went on Saturday night and had another outstanding meal. From starters to mains everything was delicious, the service was outstanding as usual and even though it was extremely busy the guys tried their hardest and contributed fantastically to our lovely evening with their humour & banter. In relation to negative comments about taking too long... one has to realise if a restaurant is busy and in this case the Helal has been going strong for 30+ years (so they must be doing something right) a little delay is inevitable. If people want quieter and more faster then weekdays would be a better option. Thanks guys for a brilliant night!

Had our Christmas party early this year bought 12 of my staff Saturday night wow thank u it was well worth travelling from Leeds the food was amazing the service was amazing. We had asked one of the managers to give us mix starters my word the starters where amazing esp the onion bajee’s the mains were even better my staff thought the lamb dishes were amazing as it was so tender all we can say is thank u so much be back again

Just attended the banquet night, amazing food and great service. Would defiantly come again great value for money, recommend a visit to anyone who lives in or visits Louth.

Went back to the Helal with 40 of my girlfriends

First visit to this restaurant for a birthday meal and travelled for 30 minutes to get there. We don't have the opportunity to go out for meals very often so this was a special event! Having read the reviews I had high hopes and had made sure I booked well ahead.

I took my partner out this evening to the helal tandoori. A personal favourite of ours and in my opinion the best restaurant in Louth....just amazing tasty food,(a real taste sensation) staff that are not only friendly but can't do enough for you. Romantic setting, great price and just what we needed, I highly recommend to everybody, after being here for over thirty years they must be doing something right, thanks and see you soon

A class act with varied menus the service is polite and attentive withiut being overbearing. We have eaten here for many years and never been let down if you enjoy Indian food this is the place to go

I’m never one to leave reviews but this one I got too. I Went to the Helal on the 8/9/2018 recently with my family on Saturday night they were absolutely heaving with customers, people queuing at the door we had to wait 15 mins for a table which was acceptable when you know the place has been there for 33 years as indicated above the door. We enjoyed the most amazing meals ever the flavours were amazing. The food was not too oily, front of house service was absolutely great considering how busy it was they even took the trouble of getting to know

Came down without booking a table on Saturday night wow it was so busy but as usual the guys at the helal gave us a table as for the food it never fails thank u so much it was delicious keep it up boys always be our favourite rest

As someone who is new to the area, I chose Helal based on the many glowing reviews on here. Unfortunately, my experience was very different. It started off poorly when we were shown to our (booked) table. Various cutlery was flung onto the table along with a couple of napkins (there were 5 of us). I was willing to overlook this. However, after quickly giving our orders, we had to wait over an hour for our food. This was also flung on the table with zero apology. Finally, when it came to payment, their card machine ‘wasn’t working’ and we had to seek out a cash machine outside. All in all, I won’t be returning again. The food was no where near good enough to justify the wait. Mediocre at best.

Food is excellent and well worth the wait, which I have to admit was a little longer than on previous visits but the place was busy, (always a good sign).

Always great food but please stop serving pickles from the open cabinet near the bar. So unhygenic. They sit there for hours in the warmth breeding bacteria and with everyone walking past they are open to further contamination.

My family and I have been visiting the Helal for as long as I can remember and it never fails to disappoint. The food is always very tasty with generous portions and lots of choice on the menu.

This was our 2nd visit here, we came 2 years ago and the staff and food was really nice, could not fault the food and the staff were really friendly, on our second visit we were talking to the guy and he actually remembered us, they were all very nice and again the food was great, the atmosphere is good and the place has a great vibe, I would totally recommend this restaurant, we traveled from Lincoln and it’s well worth the trip.

We have been using the Helal for over 20 years now and it is always consistently good. Being honest, we get takeaways more than we eat in, but this weekend, we decided to take the family out for a curry and ate in the restaurant. The menu is extensive and there is a huge choice - something for everyone. The staff are amazing and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is always good. It is a really old building with low ceilings and the front of the restaurant is made up of booths, with tables being at the back. I love the booths, which is where we sat this weekend. The food was outstanding as it always is and we left very full and happy. Kingfisher beer on tap is also beautifully served and goes well with everything available. Keep up the good work and we will be back!

Absolutely love this place! Delicious food, generous portions and very well priced. The front of house team are very courteous and professional. Went with a friend who was gluten intolerant and she was amazed by the amount of choice she had. Hence excellent for gluten free and vegetarian people. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Ignore the somewhat downmarket exterior, the low ceilings and the red furniture and concentrate of the people around you and the food offering. We were staying in the area and popped into the Helal on a Monday evening when many restaurants were closed. We immediately noticed groups of people on first name terms with the waiters, lots of friendly banter, and food being ordered without the need to refer to the menu - a great recommendation for any restaurant!

We have been customers of the Helal for many many years and have always received brilliant service and beautiful food.

Turned up without a booking on Saturday with friends and my word it was rammed but the waiters told us to wait 10 min we will get a table and what can I say credit where credits due it was an amazing night the food and the service was excellent thank you guys

Made another trip to the Helal with a group of friends. As usual outstanding food, we had a mixture of starters that was not on the menu which they recommended. If you want something tasty and a little different try their signature dishes which are amazing. The usual team of lads were there which was nice to see always delivering a wonderful service. I have been visiting the Helal since it opened and still have it in my top 10. The guys are great - always made to feel welcome and have a laugh, the food excellent - Shahi chilli chicken with Tandoori chicken is an absolute must if you like something tasty and different with a bit of spice. Great 'traditional' atmosphere in an old Tudor building - makes for a great night if you love Indian food.

Yet another visit to one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Louth, and as always, the food was delicious, the staff were as helpful as usual, a wonderful evening out.

Visited the restaurant at the last minute as we were in the area. No reservation but made really welcome and within an hour the place was heaving so really lucky to get in. Can see why the place has been open for over 30 years as it’s authentic, well cooked and well priced food. Staff are really friendly and just a great place to eat.

Our hungry band of 6 showed up without booking on Saturday night. A fairly busy restaurant but we were seated without having to wait. Good service from busy staff. Great curry. We spent about £15/head for main course and drinks. Just the job :-)

My father in law loves this place. In fact he visits helal most nights some weeks. The staff are friendly. The service is second to none and the food is just amazing!
