Tam did an excellent job in taking care of use during our lunch. Would have no hesitation on recommending Hectors for food or a wee drink

Staff weren’t very helpful. We wanted to order brunch but were advised they didn’t do brunch anymore despite it being on your online menu. We ordered nachos with fries and though the pub was only half full, still had to wait over 30 minutes. Disappointing

Showed up on a cold day when the place was half empty. Was told I wasn't allowed to sit down with my friends if we were just having drinks and we'd have to stand at the bar if we weren't ordering food. Couldn't believe how rude they were, no chairs at the bar? And not even an affordable pint. Ruined my day, avoid at all costs

We had our family Christmas lunch on Christmas Day at Hectors and the experience was amazing especially when staff replaced our granddaughters choice of Christmas pudding. Highly recommend Hector's. Friendly and helpful staff.

Typical Scottish pub, friendly, good food. A little cold atmosphere, but it's worth it. It's always full, book if you can.

We had lovely drinks and a few nibbles, the staff are lovely and friendly. The only negative, what were I think a couple of locals, one in particular, they were quite pestering and angling I believe for us to buy them drinks. He sat with an empty glass whilst we bought for our selves and kept commenting how he would love a beer. It made us feel uncomfortable. When we were continually bothered we left. Staff should monitor if someone is feeling hassled and consider intervening.

Lovely atmosphere, polite and welcoming staff and most importantly great food (both in quality and in size). It’s my must-go to place in Stockbridge :)

Went with my whole family on Saturday night. The food at Hectors is absolutely incredible. I genuinely could not fault the quality of the food. However, the service, or lack there of, was abysmal. When you go to somewhere nice, and are charged the prices you are at Hectors, you expect excellent service and a high quality of care. I appreciate it was a busy night, however I recommend that if you are too busy or understaffed, do not take on as many people as you did. We were there for over two hours and only had one course. I’ve been to a lot of nice restaurants and never had to wait that long for food. We ordered deserts after and waited half an hour. By this time it was almost 10 and we were tired and sick of waiting. We had to ask to just get the bill and cancel the deserts - that they probably hadn’t started making anyway. It was really disappointing to say the least. The servers were nice, however they were clearly rushed. You could tell they were stressed, overworked, and quite literally almost running to the tables to serve their customers. I acknowledge staffing is an issue, however we could have at least been told there would be a longer wait for food when we sat down. It’s rare we all go out a family and to have this as our experience is really a shame.

Came here for burgers on our first night in Edinburgh and what a delight this pub was! Such friendly service (Alex and Rhonda were fab) and the burgers were amazing, I highly recommend the chicken and avocado burger. A must visit if you’re in the city!

Really nice welcome and great service. We needed an early and quick dinner as we were heading off to a light show at the Botanics in Edinburgh and that request was accommodated. Next time we’ll have a more leisurely dinner as it’s a lovely bar and great menu selection.

We went as a group of 7 for food and drinks. The food was really good. We enjoyed a chicken and mushroom pie that had excellent gravy, also a cheeseburger that had BBQ salsa that hit the spot but could have been in greater quantity. Now for the service...it was poor. We sat for long periods without staff checking in to see if we needed drinks or anything else. They seemed to actively ignore us and meant that we had to resort to entertaining means of ordering drinks. I left disappointed and no longer merry. Luckily we went to The Last Order for drinks and had a smashing time, with great cocktails served up with aplomb.

Went to sit down and sat for a while before being advised someone who wanted a meal ( drinks only for us ) took priority even though no belongings on table or chair . Avoid . Try Stockbridge Tap instead . They're more welcoming ! Please see below that automated drivel that you expect from this venue. It's sad that this member of staff assumes that his customers are all thieves by this gent for not leaving a scrap of clothing or an item to indicate he was sitting there in case it was stolen Would YOU eat in and drink in a place like this where the staff know there's a high risk of your possessions been stolen As for the shouting of the one star review - why not let other customers know . Are you hiding something ? Maybe this place is not for us - or anyone else for that matter where customers are worried about theft Judging by the recent review of poor bland tasting food maybe it's time to look elsewhere for your lunch etc 🤮

Portions are quite big and I struggled to finish mine, but the food was so good. I’ve rarely felt so good after a meal. It was excellent.

Chilled vibe bar. Great selection of drinks. Food on offer looked nice however, I didn’t eat here. Reasonably priced. Will definitely return.

Food is awful here! I think the atmosphere is lovely, staff and service is great… come for a drink only. Don’t bother with the food. I’ve come a few times as I’ve really wanted it to be good as it’s local to me… but each time my order has not reflected what was said on the menu (my pickled red onion salad was a few wilted mixed lettuce leaves - the kind you’d find in a bag from tesco and there was no dressing, the “garlic chicken” schnitzel was burnt and had literally no garlic) it’s over priced, bland, and I wouldn’t come back to eat here. Maybe for a drink, but to I be honest there’s nicer pubs, more reasonably priced right nearby, so I’d probably just go there.

Went in for lunch; food was excellent but service was inattentive. Sat with dirty plates for 20m / struggled to flag down any members of staff to order / pay the bill.

Food was really good. Nice portion of fish and chips. It doesn’t feel like just “pub food”, well presented and tasty ingredients 👌🏼

The server wiped his nose with his hand and, without wearing gloves, used that same hand to cut the mint for the cocktail. It felt so unsanitary. I didn’t drink it and just left it there.

A real disappointment, especially for a place we’ve loved in the past. Hector’s is a nice pub in a great location, but this visit really missed the mark. Despite the restaurant being quiet, we waited over half an hour for two small plates of fried chicken and some nachos. When the nachos finally arrived, the avocado was black – something that should never have left the kitchen. It was clear no one was paying attention to the food being served. We pointed it out to the server, who apologised and had it remade, but this only added to the wait. To add to the frustration, I ordered a lemonade and lime but was served soda water and lime instead. I didn’t bother correcting it given the situation. The fried chicken was tasty, but the portion was small and nowhere near the quality of the Korean chicken they used to serve, which was a standout on their menu. When it came time to pay, I asked to have the service charge removed, and they asked why. I explained the long wait and the avocado issue, and before I could finish, the young woman at the till acknowledged it with an “oh yeah,” clearly already aware of the problem. Without us asking, they immediately took the nachos and soft drinks off the bill, which was appreciated. The servers were good at resolving things within their ability, but it was obvious they already knew about the issues. Despite their efforts, the overall experience was poor – slow service, disappointing food quality, and portions that didn’t justify the price. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely pub in such a good location, but it seems Hector’s has lost its touch. Sadly, we won’t be returning anytime soon.

We just had lunch I had a burger it was really good I went in with no expectations and came out with a pleasant feeling. The staff is friendly although they were busy they still had time to check on us if everything was ok.

Unfortunately, we didn't even get the chance to eat there. However, we called and asked if we could make a reservation, which they said wasn't possible anymore since we were a bit late to make a reservation for that day. Fair enough. They told us though that we could just stop by and come without a reservation since there were only two of us which shouldn't be a big problem. So off we went and hoped we'd get a table. As we came in, we saw many empty tables and tought chances were quite good to get a table. When we asked the lady, she told us that they were "full" and that we had to wait. When I asked how long, she couldn't give us an answer and told us to ask the manager. So we went to the bar and asked there and the guy had also no clue how long it would take. Long story short, we are very, disappointed on how we were treated and how incompetently the staff answered our question. It's a bummer...

We live in a very competitive time for pubs and you have to be good to thrive or just survive! Sadly the food here was poor and despite friendly apologetic staff we wouldn’t return! Cullen skink is a Scottish staple and it was bland and tasteless! 😕

Our first meal in Scotland and it was wonderful. I had the steak and ale pie.. yummy. The hubby had fish and chips he said it was good. The sticky toffee pudding was delightful.

I like Hectors! But sorry I had to give 1 star for food based solely on the nachos I had on Thursday. If you like the nachos you get from the cinema with the nasty nacho cheese, you might like them. Store bought salsa, the guacamole was good but despite the liquid cheese most of the tortilla chips had nothing on them. Nachos can be great, these were not. At all. Hopefully they can upgrade this staple bar snack.

Staff member informed us their was 'maintenance' going on in the kitchen and could be a 30 minute wait. We discussed that we only had an hour parking due to max time outside. He then took our order. 40 minutes later, the table next us got served their food. We asked what was happening with our food and the server hadn't put the order through. There was no confusion, we had ordered the food and had waited patiently despite seeing the chef out of his kitchen at least twice. Whilst waiting another mber of staff was overheard making xenophobic comment, joke or not, unacceptable. We had to leave without lunch, and having wasted £5 on Stockbridge parking. Unbelievable. The previous visit they had got our order wrong two times in a row but we gave them a pass as food, albeit very expensive for pub grub was quite tasty. Won't be back and would advise you to not go either. Absolutely furious.

LOVED Hector's. We stayed in Stockbridge and just happened to run into it for a pint and some peckings, and just loved it! such a beautiful pub. very friendly staff with a great draft and cocktail list. would suggest anyone to bop in for a drink or food.

Newly refurbished with a focus on local history. Tastefully decorated. Friendly staff. Good range of beers. We did not eat here but the new menu looks good, if a little limited for veggies and vegans. They have a smaller bar menu too if you don't want a full meal in the restaurant area. We were here mid afternoon so plenty of room but most tables booked from 7, so suggest booking. It was pub quiz night, so that may account for being fully booked. Average prices for Edinburgh.

We were so disappointed about their service and attitude. This place should not even exist. I have made a reservation for dinner buffet and I did receive the confirmation from the restaurant. However, they sent an email few days before our booking and told us that our booking is no longer exist and we have to select there set menu. And they only gave us 1 day for set selection. We called the restaurant and their attitude was horrible. They told us our buffet booking was late and they will not provide it for us, we were trying to go through the booking confirmation with them. They just stopped us and be like they do not care. They just do not listen to us and insist they will not provide the buffet service with strong and rude attitude. Why would they even send us the confirmation if we were late? It does not make any sense. Also, I do not understand how they can just refuse to communicate and make it sounds normal. I am even wondering if that is how they normally treat other guests. It is horrible if that is their service standard. If being arrogant is their signature, they should list it out which I will definitely not visiting them. They just ruined my client's plan of the night. My client were having their wedding that day and have hope to spend the wedding dinner at their place. How could we expect that to happen. We will never recommend anyone to there anymore.

Lovely food, went for the Balmoral chicken. Really polite staff and quick service.

The place itself is ok, but I got to wait 20 min for a bloody portion of chips that weren't even great. With only 1/3 of the seats occupied and waiters chatting with each other, it seemed as if nobody gave an f and the kitchen folks had to go to the field to search for tatties. There are better places in Stockbrige, especially food wise. Also, "accessible" toilet was barely accessible, dirty and without the possibility to even reach the flush.

The food here was absolutely amazing. We tried the authentic Scottish foods as well as other pub fare. All of it was excellent. But the wait staff here was the best part. Leigh was our server, and we couldn’t have asked for better. We were short on time to see the Royal Scottish Military Tattoo, and she helped us choose dishes that would get us out on time. Couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. Now we know where we’ll be eating this week. Absolutely coming back often this week.

Went in for a quick drink and one of the bar staff was very rude to me as I accidentally paid for someone else’s drink. Made me really awful about it and completely changed the atmosphere of the place even though it was an easy fix to give me a refund.

Excellent welcome: very friendly and efficient waitress. Good beers We ate 3 different dishes: all delicious. Unfortunately, no more desserts available. No problem: we are reassured about the freshness of the preparations.

Hector's was the first viable establishment that served food and beer that we ran into after wandering the city. We had already wandered from our hotel, up Arthur's Seat, through a graveyard, and through the Botanical Garden. 10 miles. We were famished. We had immediate service. I had been waiting for the right place to order haggis and this was it. Haggis nips and tatties. I have to say that it was very good and satisfying. Really, it is comfort food. Oh, and a couple of pints were also comforting. My vegan daughter had a vegan cottage pie. My anti-vegetable, pro-meat son had hamburger. My wife had a grilled sandwich which I can't name. Everything was very good. Very good service, very nice woody atmosphere.

This place had a great ambiance and a very pleasant mood. They have both indoor and outdoor tables for customers' convenience. I would've given them a higher rate, but their service was regular at best. I had to wait nearly 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge that I was sitting at a table, and later, the waiter forgot about my 2nd drink. In the end, it was best to order at the counter instead.

Food was lovely definitely a doggie pub which is probably why it us so popular.

We haven't been here for years but popped in for some lunch after walking along the Water of Leith from Corstorphine!! As it's almost a 7 mile walk we were hungry!! Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and although Hectors is a pub the food was of restaurant standard!! Staff were all friendly and helpful too!! We will definitely be back!!

Just popped into Hectors for a quick pint, ended up staying for quite a few. Both bar staff Jamie And Leigh were fantastic. Both great assets to the pub. I never had food but it all looked delicious. Will most definitely be back.

Moved into the area & tried this place out for food! Sat 20 minutes before getting menu & when we ordered food it took about an hr before it came! Staff unfriendly & it wasn’t busy! Food arrived cold so couldn’t eat it!

Looking for a place to wait for the rain to stop, we stumbled upon coziness and great service. We tried (and liked) the traditional Scottish desert - Cranachan, along with coffee and a light beer. Recommended!

We just had drinks service. At the bar.Noisy but fun

We ordered a bottle of Albariño which we pointed to on the menu. Instead a bottle of red was brought to us and it came open. We asked for it to be changed which was done but the waitress told us that we had a very thick accent. Nobody had ever said this to me in the past, and given that Edinburgh is a multicultural city full of tourists from all over, this should never be an issue or something to comment on. We then ordered a vegetarian nourish bowl and a smoked salmon as a starter. The nourish bowl came with smoked salmon on it and instead of the smoked salmon starter we got served a grilled salmon fillet as a main. The waitress took the plates away after we told them this was not what we ordered and a manager came back shouting at us, asking who had ordered this. He said that this was not what he had on his screen. We then had to order again and the right order finally came. My plate still tasted of salmon, so I imagine they only removed the salmon and replaced it with halloumi. The whole experience was highly uncomfortable. I fear people with allergies would have an unsafe experience.

Superlocation. We were there twice this week. Very friendly people, the food was.....😊😊👍🏻. For me, it was very special that it was no problem to become a gluten free meal.

Went a few weeks ago for Sunday lunch and it was lovely - tonight 5:30pm on a Friday - it was a different story. Burnt burger, over cooked fish and chips, staff hanging out at bar not really interested in serving customers. Feedback was received with ‘whatever’ attitude. Unfortunately a local we had given up on, tried to give a few more chances and now back to giving a big miss!

Booked a table online and when we arrived were very warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Excellent Sunday roasts (chicken and beef), super drinks, efficient and friendly service. Definitely exceeded our expectations. If we had to find fault it would just be to say it’s not the closest and bumping the temperature up a few degrees would be lovely…. But a minor issue relative!

Stepped into this joint on a Thursday afternoon, kids in tow, for a little grub and some brews! The kiddo menu was... well, let's just say it was there. Food hit the table at lightning speed, a pleasant surprise indeed! My oldest, all of 10 years, gave the chicken bits a lukewarm reception—maybe a tad too fancy for their taste buds. But hey, for us grown-ups, not too shabby! Overall, it was decent. Not exactly mind-blowing, but not a total bust either! Props to the attentive staff, though. Kudos to them! Seems like Edinburgh could use a few more spots like this for us parental types! Cheers to that!
