Heath Pie Shop in Barking and Dagenham

Used to be good but went last week as my kids love it. Also my dad's loves it too but only from cooks in Harold Hill. Anyway this time the mash was awful very bland and lumpy. The pies were good. The liquor was very watery not like it used to be. They have definitely changed the recipe. I got a takeaway and make sure you get 2 large liquors as they have also changed there cup size. A small liquor size is as big as am egg cup, the large is also so small. I then went to get my dad's at cooks and it was perfect large liquor in a big cup and the pies are massive.

Don't waste your money going here. Pies wasn't to bad but the mash was lumpy and hard .sausages were hard and been warmed up in the microwave not fresh at all same with the gravy . ( how long does it take to cook some sausages and gravy freshly ).

Just visited yesterday, thought the mash looked a bit ropey , got home and was right , pies ok but mash was yellow and tasted horrible

Great food and been going there since It opened 50 years ish. Food is still good value, the Tables are the same and needs a overhaul as to tight or Iam to fat but it’s uncomfortable if only benches available. The staff look like serving pie and mash is the very last thing they want to do and are abrupt and look unhappy, better among themselves whilst you waiting and can put you off , so a good manager’s day some basic training needed. They wouldn’t last an hour in a proper restaurant , can’t knock the food as it is consistently good, the owner only needs to train his staff to act more friendly, spend a bit of cash in the seating area and it will be there another 50 years.

I have passed this shop a few times and wanted to try it out which I did today. I was greeted by an abrupt lady who took my order without any smiles or any effort to make you feel welcome. The shop itself is very run down. All these things I can deal with as I but the food was just awful and tasteless. Worst pie i ever had in a pie shop and the mash was lumpy and flavourless. I just ate up and left. Not impressed at all.

I went to this place today when they opened, I was the only customer in the shop and as I got to the counter a woman was putting the float in the till and told me she wouldn't be long, I told her it was ok I didn't mind waiting, after a few minutes the other woman with her, an old woman who was moaning about her phone bills, piped up and said to the first woman ' I don't know why you let him in'.... it was said loud enough so I could hear it...so I said don't bother I will take my business elsewhere if you don't want me in the shop...she cost the owner about £20 which is the order I was going to place if the owner reads this get rid of her she is costing you money! Anyway, I went elsewhere and got good pie and mash and pleasant service, unfortunately Heath pie and mash is just another example of poor customer service because the staff don't give a toss. Take your business elsewhere where they want customers and want to take your money

The customer service is disgusting on this experience, iv been coming here for years but recently it’s not been to great. A hair was found in one of our plates of food, when taking the plate to the counter I was given no apology or even a conversation the plate was just taken from me. I sat down for 5 minutes to see if I would be approached to be offered a replacement or refund. All that happened is I was completely ignored and I had to go and ask for my money back which she didn’t seem impressed about and still did not apologies. Food has really gone down hill for a while now. Shame to say I’ll now be going to the Eastbrook pie mash.

We have used this pie and mash shop several years and I am never disappointed.It isn't somewhere to have a relaxing meal as seating relatively restricted.However find authentic east end fayre.They also have delivery service.

If you're looking for a decent pie and mash then my advice is don't bother going here! Overpriced tasteless slop.

Don't bother ordering a delivery from here. Turns up an hour late, cold dried up pies and stone cold rock hard mash. When I phoned after an hours wait I was told " well I dunno how long it'll be. I've only got 2 drivers." Staffed by rude incompetent idiots. Wish i'd have made the effort and drove to Brook pie and mash by the Eastbrook, far better service.

My grandma used to live in Dagenham and would take me to Heath Pie Shop for meals, always loved it then and it’s no different now!Beautiful, tasty, hot pies and smooth mash with a fab liquor. Staff are so friendly and treat you like family!

Staff were very abrupt, I thought it was a joke. Then spent the next 10 minutes listening to swear words from the cooks ( was just part of their conversation). What ever happened to basic customer service?

Have eaten in and had take away on numerous occasions. Very tasty pies filled lots of mince. Mash is creamy and liquor tastes lovely too. Prices are reasonable. Staff are welcoming and friendly. They also sell fresh sea food, also reasonably priced.

Absolutely horrible. The mash was so lumpy was not able to eat it and the pies didnt taste nice at all. Chilli vinegar had chilli flakes which went onto my food. So disappointed

Been buying takeaway from there since early 70s. Can definitely witness the decline. Pie have less meat, though to be fair, that can be expected these days. Used to buy stewed eels until the portions got too small. Staff are not very friendly and don’t like customer feedback. Advert on window says ..”Pensioners Special.. 1 Pie & Mash & a drink for £3.40.” Was abruptly told only one per customer! Did let me buy 2, one for wife, as if they were doing me a favour! (spent £25.50p altogether). Got home to find no drinks included. Told them next time, they didn’t accept complaint. Have stopped going there now. Shame as the only P & M shop around. They need to be more friendly & obliging or I fear they’ll loose too many loyal customers & be forced to close.

When they are good there food is yummy but its very hit and miss, the pies normally are fine had the odd burnt one but the mash is lumpy and sometimes its just awful

been going down hill last year or so, last order from them was burnt and rubbery pies, used to be the best now we will go somewhere else for our dose of pie and mash!

I have used this pie shop since i was a little girl with my dad and it used to be out of this world compared to others but the past year or so the standards have really slipped. Its so hit and miss one time could be excellent and the next its awful. Food sometimes cold and staff miserable and rude. Such a shame as there isnt many pie shops left. They have now lost me as a customer and i fear that the future isnt good if they cant even provide a hot meal....

Only the liquor was hot. 4 staff on and they can't even provide a hot meal. Pretty discracefull. If I wanted cold food I would have bought a salad.

¿Por qué no se dan cuenta de que la gente paga y quiere una comida caliente. Realmente no hay necesidad de servir no caliente. Quizás es por eso que este lugar siempre está vacío. Es una pena porque las tiendas tarta y puré están muriendo y local ha estado allí desde que era un niño. Me gustaría que leer estos comentarios y sirven comida caliente.

When it's good it's good, but some days like today are a let down. Very undercooked crust on pies..However give it a try because when it's cooked and hot it's lovely.

Pie and Mash with Liquor is something of a treat and this is the perfect place to enjoy it.Been numerous times and always been very well presented and well cooked.

This is the best value pie and mash shop in Essex. Always fresh and hot, cooked to perfection. My daughter won't eat pie and mash from any other shop but here. Brilliant service, worth the drive to get there.

Was nice, pies bit on the small side, mash and liquor perfect. Enjoyed it but this the most expensive pie and mash shop I've eaten in. Perfect except the £7.40 price of 2 pies and mash.

Siempre he disfrutado de la comida aquí, pero siento que es caro para lo que te dan. Las tartas son finas, lo que es normal y de esperarse pero para comer aquí no es barato. El personal parece que siempre tiene amigos o familia allí y se puede sentir como si estuvieras imponente. No hay mucho espacio en las mesas tan grandes personas, sería difícil de encajar en los asientos

When it's hot it's nice, but often it's cold. It's a shame when it's not up to standard as it's well staffed so no reason to serve up cold food.

Best mash ever, tastes creamy. Great pie and mash here. Old established shop.Traditional surroundings. Original features. Friendly staff. V.clean. I always ask for a burnt pie!! They always oblige. Luvverly grub.

Reasonably priced good quality food served by friendly staff Hot drinks not so tasty could use better tea bags and coffee however the fact they deliver outside the area only for an extra pound makes them more value for money than other pie and mash shops.

Fantastic Pie & Mash - eels too! No other pie & mash tasted the same. This one has got to be the best in the country (or at least the East of the country - its essentially a London thing!!) Do go there - you'll love it!!

First time i have had this pie mash..I had home delivery..Very speedy delivery..It was lovely..My foster child said that was lovely as she scrapped her plate..lol

Heath Pie Shop has been open and run by the same family for over 53 years and my first visit was at the age of 3 - 45 years ago. This first visit instilled in me a love for pie and mash that has remained with me ever since.Due to geography I've not been able to vist for the last 30 years but today had the chance to come back with my parents as we were doing a nostalgia tour of Dagenham.The service was fast and friendly, the food was just as I remember, the portion sizes large and the prices reasonable. There is even a car park right outside.With pie and mash shops a dying breed it is wonderful to see one thriving and still preparing it in the traditional way.They also do local home deivery.

Best p and m f or many miles around. Friendly family run business thats been there for many many years. Family travel from along way to eat there. Do a delivery service within local area....can't fault

A super pie and mash shop, traditional. Excellent food and friendly service. Seating needs updating and to be less restrictive as medium/large people are unable to sit down comfortably.

Haven't been to this shop in years. Stopped when the quality went down. Tried them again recently and the quality is as good as anywhere. In fact, I'm sure they would outshine most. Pie and mash shops have taken to dish up dark green sludge in place of traditional white liqueur with Parsley. I am pleased to let you know, this establishment serves proper liqueur of the correct colour.If like me, you have steered clear. May I recommend you give it another try. Been eating here for years one of the best around bit pricey but worth the money eat in take away or get it delivered they even do big orders for party's and weddings

Been in there to eat before, this time I got a delivery. Very overpriced and I feel the food isn't up to scratch how it used to be.

I have not visited this establishment for many a year and must say it has not changed very much. To be honest the place could do with a bit of a makeover to smarten it up a bit.I enjoyed the Pie and Mash but must say the pies seemed a bit smaller than I remember them and the cost seems to have risen dramatically. However, that is not too say that I would not visit again.

Ok pie and mash. I thought it was a but expensive. The shop could do with being updated but it's reasonably clean and food is always hot. Would recommend if in the area but no better than most pie and mash :)

Good quality food with a free delivery service... Food was at my door before the end of the phone call! Would recommend to anyone, great place.

I visited here, recently, with some colleagues as it was their choice of eatery (I was the only one who voted against it). As I don't do this type of, what I consider to be revolting food, I purchased fish and chips from a nearby chippy and at it in the pie & mash shop - with the owner's blessing. This establishment is very run down, tables have seen better days and the staff very exceedingly 'common'. No thought was given to providing condiments, my colleagues had to ask and then had to ask for them to be filled.

We went here on the spur of the moment on the way back from our wholesalers, what a find! First of all the staff are exceptional, we had a right laugh and they couldn't do enough, my mum was a bit ill and they were thoroughly helpful and offered to help although it wasn't needed. Then came the best bit, the pie mash, all I can say is wow! It's really the best I have had for a long, long time, great pies, great mash and what has to be the best tasting liquor I have tasted for years. I was just gutted I couldn't fit in cherry pie and custard. Will we be back? Of course we will!

Great for take away, they even deliver. Cramped seating but most pie mash shops are. Tasty food and excellent service.

Was in the area so dropped in to see if the food was still as good after thirty years. I certainly was not disappointed, the food excellent. This place hasn't changed in all these years and I'm glad it hasn't.
