It has all the potential to be a great pub, bar staff friendly and polite. Unfortunately it attracts the less fortunate in society that are unable to behave in the correct manner. I witnessed a young man with a dog and a very large young girl with a small child who did both apear dissabled become aggressive towards a group of pensioners. The premises was almost empty as was end of night, so did not go unoticed but management did not intervene. Such a shame for all concerned.

After the demise of all the other local pubs in the area (Ketts Tavern, The Quebec and The Windmill all gone) I thought I’d give this place a try again. The pub is huge but very tatty and run down. The barmaid is acting like she’d rather be anywhere else than here. Deserted, with only a few locals clustered around the bar. I only really came in to use the Wi-Fi and the “friendly ” barmaid does not know it’s password! It’s clearly marked as a guest network. Although it’s a bit of a walk, I’m off to check out The Jubilee in St Leonard’s Road, it can’t be any worse than this place. By the look of the Heartsease it can’t be long until it joins The Ketts Tavern etc and is no more. It looks to be on its last legs.

We have always lived and used the pub on regular basis but last few months have gone really down hill lack of atmosphere and friendly staff no longer seem to be about, drinks prices have gone up again we can get drinks at local hotel cheaper, not the same any more sad to see this has happened to our local pub

I have lived in the area for approx 4 years and had never ventured into the Heartsease until recently I was looking for somewhere to catch up with a friend who also lives local and rather than trapse into the city she suggested we try the Heartsease. What a pleasant surprise when we walked through the door, a genuine warm welcome from the lady behind the bar (tania I believe) even though she was dealing with a customer she had a warm smile and a greeted us with "I'll be with you in a minute" this makes all the difference I’ve been lucky enough visit various countries and no matter where I have stayed from 5-star hotels to visiting local bars its genuine welcoming staff that make the difference. Even the other regular customers were friendly, a lovely surprise Too many Bars and restaurants in Norwich now days make you feel like your invisible while they stand and chat to their regulars or at worse happily talk amongst themselves ignoring customers. I had a Peroni was probably the best I've tasted anywhere, my friend an Abbott Ale again a perfect pint. Glasses spotlessly clean. We even stayed for a meal which again was nice and reasonably priced. We have since been back a few times and I’m always impressed when staff (tania) take time to remember what you like to drink. It will now be a regular stop off place for an afternoon catch up or bite to eat. It reminds me of a local bar you stumble across at the end of a holiday and kick yourself for not finding it earlier!

Wanted to go to a pub I used to frequent called the Canary on Heartsease Estate but now pulled down: however, the Heartsease was a very good alternative for atmosphere and food.

Although the Heartsease is only a 3 minute walk from our house my wife and I hadn't been along for a few months. Visited today with our two grown up sons (who have big appetites and actually declined desserts!) and enjoyed an excellent lunch, great value and quality. Full marks to the friendly and efficient owners. At their very modest prices it's almost cost effective to have your main meal there each day, even with Aldi across the car park!

We stopped in at the Heartsease Pub on our way to the city for a quick bite. We were not expecting too much but both the food and the service were really very good. Unbelievable prices too. The new management Nici and Joe were friendly and helpful. The whole place was clean and it has a real family vibe. Great place for a drink or a meal or both. We will be going back for the soon to be famous home cooked carvery on Sunday. Its well on its way to being a proper family venue. Thank you for bringing back a real local pub.

Went in for a pint at 4:30pm on Friday and was very disappointed. Not very welcoming, which is very unusual for Norwich (am a Londoner who's been up here for 15 years). I've been here a number of times before, around 12 or so years ago, and it was so much better than it is now. A pub with such a large catchment area should be buzzing, but this place is not. Shame.

Try a pub in the City or the countryside, this pub is for local people and not for the discerning traveller. It doesn't give that warm welcoming feeling of an old English pub.

Please note that I have written many reviews on here, and always strive to be fair. My comments on this pub are not an exaggeration.I visited at lunchtime with my elderly mother. We placed our order at the bar, and took a seat. We waited for what seemed like forever (I didnt time it, but I would say at least 40 minutes) for our two mixed grills. Although there were maybe a handful of other people in the pub, we were the only ones eating, so the delay cannot have been due to the kitchen being busy. When our food arrived, it looked ok. However both my mums medium steak and my medium rare steak were both well done. Mine was kind of curled over at one end, and although the rest of it tasted ok (even though I didnt want a well dome steak), that curled up piece tasted really horrible, almost of disinfectant. I had to take it out of my mouth, and at that point I stopped eating my meal. Not wanting to make a fuss (my mum has alzheimers and is easily phased if she encounters any "commotion"), I let mum continue eating, and whilst I was waiting to finish eating, I found myself sorting through the small packets of condiments - half of which were out of date.I can't comment on the toilets as we didnt use them. The pub is wheelchair accessible. We wont be returning

My son and I were looking for somewhere to have brunch after an early hospital appointment. We decided to visit the Heartsease as we have eaten there before. We both had the Hearty Heartsease breakfast. Hot plate, hot food well cooked and presented nicely. Two eggs, two back bacon , two Cumberland sausages, baked beans, mushrooms, half cooked tomato and chips. It nearly defeated us! This feast came on their 2 for£10 offer and if you are really hungry I would thoroughly recommend it.

This was our first visit to the Heartsease, the meal deal looked very tempting with a picture of a nice big Gammon steak and chips, when it arrived it was the smallest steak I had ever seen in My life and 25% of that was fat, it was well cooked and tasted fine, but no where near filling, I ended up going to a chip shop to fill Myself up, the staff were not to sociable and struggled to smile, I doubt I will be back.

Not gourmet by any standard, but if you want a cheap, tasty & quick meal The Heartsease is a good place to call in.With a wide variety of classic pub favourites there is something for everyone, and there is a £3.99 lunchtime menu which is exceptional value for money.Drinks are reasonably priced too which is always nice and there is plenty of seating. The only downfall is that food isn't served between 2:30pm & 5:30pm so keep that in mind!!

Without doubt the staff work very hard. However the behind the bar hygiene is atrocious. Used 'Jcloths' right next to to lemons and shot glasses is not good. On top of this on the night I was there there was an electric drill behind a very dirty bar and used mops stacked near the coffee machine. I am fairly confident that this review will not make a blind bit of difference to the pub and it will just be another casualty in a long list of pub closures. I so wish I am proved wrong.

The last couple of visits to the heartsease have not been great, food was missing from the plate had to tell the waitress who then told me that they were out of olives that's why they weren't on the platter i ordered, was then offered more chuoros instead (not really the same as olives) as well as this the bbq sauce and sour cream was not brought out with my meal either. On my next visit the olives were still not present the same thing with the sour cream and sauce, I'm not sure if the staff or chefs know the menu? My third and probably final visit the food ordered (3 burgers), took an hour to arrive even though there were only three tables in the whole place that had ordered. At no point on any of these ooccasion were we apologised to for the lateness or lack of food. Such a shame because it's such a good atmosphere and the landlady is lovely.

The feel of this pub is that the Manager, a woman who works her socks off and a guy are the only 3 who seem to care as they do their job so well. The chain don't seem to support them in additional staff when know it's football day or special event and other bar staff treat it as a holiday venue.Shame as should and could be a super pub.

Visiting Norwich and needed to stock up a bit, so this was the closest store to us. Did shopping and wanted to use the toilets before leaving, like you do. All toilets near the cafe were closed! Luckily there was a disabled toilet on the next floor down, but very surprised this was the situation, especially on a busy Saturday. The queues to the single disabled toilet were very long too.

Absolute disgrace this place 2 door man trying to start a fight as best they can with an over 40/50 year old men. Shoving 2 men to the floor and provoking and being aggressive , but only because we older and didn’t want the hassle , we walked away. Another person might end of started a fight which they obviously wanted. STAY AWAY . DISGRACEFUL PLACE. STAY AWAY.

There were two tables occupied at around 4pm, 3 lots of people waiting for drinks and 4 members of staff working behind the counter, and 1 refilling out the front. We felt like an absolute inconvenience, but hung about waiting 5 minutes to place our order. We received no acknowledgment in this time, until my partner and I shared a ‘should we just go?’ look, which prompted a staff member to say ‘ill be with you shortly’. It seemed chaotic behind the counter, no order or logic to who did what, and overheard another guy waiting for drinks say that he’d been waiting half an hour for two takeaway drinks! We waited at the counter for 10-15 mins for two toasties and two coffees. Our toasties came out quick, but drinks took forever, despite having two robust coffee machines capable of allowing two members to be simultaneously making drinks. By the time our drinks arrived our toasties were pretty cool, and one of our drinks was accidentally put in a takeaway cup. Coffee was awful. We choose costa because it’s consistent (usually) and you know what to expect. The milk was burnt and the baristas skill didn’t compare to our local costa (Broadland business park). Won’t be returning, if they can’t get it right when it’s quiet and there’s plenty of staff - when can they?!
