I had wanted to try Hearth restaurant for ages, we have been to the bakery a few times and have loved it. A rare child free night gave us the perfect opportunity so we booked a table. From the moment we arrived everything was amazing. The friendly, knowledgeable staff helped me narrow down my choices because I wanted one of everything! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed and you don't feel hemmed in like you can in some restaurants. We enjoyed it so much I brought my mum a couple of weeks later for her birthday and she loved it as well. Please keep doing what you are doing everyone at Hearth.

Fantastic food, great service. Only thing which I am adding here for feedback only is the door to the upstairs let in a bit of a cold breeze so would be good to have something stopping that. Still an overall great experience, good staff knowledge of menu. Very tasty food, easily one of the best restaurants in Hull.

Lovely Sunday lunch, reasonable vegetarian options. Great atmosphere and staff are really friendly. Service is slightly slow, but everything is cooked fresh to order and is so tasty that this isn't an issue. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert today but the options looked incredible

Over rated and over priced, however even worse is the service. If this is supposed to be the best restaurant in Hull then I will not be back for sure.

Thoroughly disappointed with the entire experience. Despite the extensive and expensive menu, when I asked what they could offer for my 6-year-old, I was bluntly told, “It’s the menu.” Left with no choice, I ordered the ribeye steak for him, which was the only item he might eat. Surprisingly, they didn’t even ask how he would like it cooked. Our drinks, which we ordered upon sitting down, didn’t arrive until after the starters were served. To make matters worse, my starter never arrived. After waiting 15 minutes and being told it would take another 5 minutes, I decided to cancel it. The rest of the table had to begin eating without me. We asked for ice for our drinks four times and eventually had to go downstairs to the bar ourselves to get it. After finishing the starters, we waited another hour for our main courses. I asked if my son’s steak could at least be brought out since he’d been sitting there for two hours by that point. They finally brought out what appeared to be a 6oz steak on a tea plate with no sides or even a garnish—and charged £34 for it. We arrived at 7:30 pm, and by 9:30 pm, I still hadn’t received any food. Frustrated, I canceled my order and left. I’ve never experienced such poor service from a team that clearly didn’t care about their customers. I do not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.

Visited on a Saturday morning. we sat outside as the weather was fine, and the square had a nice European feel to it. Had to go inside to purchase food and drinks. Waitress delivered it to our table outside and was very polite. The coffee was the best we experienced in Hull, and the food was lovely. My wife had a cheese on toast, and I had the BLT. Nice place to visit in Hull.

Very tasty food. A few niggles re service and set up. I'm not a fan of the evening menu organization into small and large sharing plates. Fine if you are in a big group but not great for a couple. Waiter advised that we would need at least two/three of each for two adults plus sides. I did think they all sounded pretty hearty but heeded his advice. Far too much food to offer. For example one of the starters, chicken liver parfait, was enormous and came with four full size slices of sourdough bread. Obviously I'm not complaining that the portions are generous. However the amount of food we ended up with due to waiter's advice was far too much and we ended up leaving food. It did feel as though the menu and waiter's advice was designed to upsell. I also felt that the quality of the service in general was not up to the standard of a high end restaurant. We were left at the entrance for quite a while, I'm assuming whilst our table was readied. No offer of taking a drinks order despite standing next to the bar and no explanation. The toilets were also in a state if disarray. These are small details but, for me, are the things that are important at the price point of this place. If they are aiming for a Michelin star (which I feel the food is up to) these things need addressing.

I can say that some of the food my wife and I had during our first visit to Hearth was excellent. The smaller plates especially with the salmon gnocchi a particular favourite. The welcome was nice, and all the staff were very pleasant. I really wanted to love the place, but a few issues meant I have had to leave a 'lower' four-star review. Three stars seemed a little harsh, but it couldn't be five. As mentioned, most of the food was excellent, however one of our large plates was a little underwhelming, the lamb which we felt wasn't as tasty as we would have hoped. I appreciate this is personal taste and some may love it. One issue we had was a few requests not being actioned. We asked for more water for the table when our large plates came out, the waitress was very polite and said she would sort that but never came back with the water. We asked for the bill from the same waitress as she cleared our table, this also unfortunately did not arrive, and we had to ask someone else. The main issue we had though was just how noisy it got. It was a Saturday night, and by the time we left the restaurant was full. However, two parties of eight meant the noise levels got to the point that we struggled to hear each other in the end. There was one group in particular who really should have been asked to keep the noise down as they were basically shouting at each other. The last problem was the floor being a little uneven with a slight slope (an old building so fair enough) but because of this our table sloped slightly sideways. Not a problem during the meal (we found it quite funny, and it caused no real issues). However, when my wife stood up and leant on the table it tipped slightly sideways and an empty bottle and cooler fell off the table which was a little embarrassing, especially as the noising group mentioned above thought it was the right place and time to cheer. They should maybe save that sort of behaviour for their, no doubt frequent visits to Wetherspoons! We will visit Hearth again I think but probably not on a Saturday night and will ask for a level table next time.

Cute little cafe with freshly baked goods and lovely staff. I had a fried egg with avocado on their sourdough with a mocha. It was lovely - a slightly different way of cooking the fried egg by giving it a really crisp base whilst maintaining the runny yolk, but it was 😍 👌. There are stools inside where you can bring your laptops and work, or there are a few tables inside and out. It is slightly tight inside on space as it gets busier, but it was a lovely atmosphere. I also grabbed a gorgeous sourdough loaf on the way out.

Heard really great things about hearth, so we decided to have breakfast with the family at the bakery. Paid almost £50 for two full English breakfast, one coffee, iced tea and a warm orange juice. Waited over 25 minutes for our drinks, which was a shame..they have okay coffee. But the food! Absolute disgrace, you could taste butter on everything! Also the beans are described as BBQ beans which when they came it was a chilli in a pot…with beef in! I’m sorry but to receive a beef chilli with kidney beans on a fry up makes me feel sick, none of us touched our breakfast other then the sourdough toast and sausage…as you can’t mess up those. The hash browns was so over cooked and crispy but hallow inside. We just left in the end as no staff came to check how we was with our food. What a waste of money and we will not be recommending or visiting again! Avoid at all costs, don’t waste you money!

We had read a lot of glowing reviews about Hearth Restaurant and Bakery, Hull. A great location in the old town facing Hull Minster, the staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. We chose the small plates as a starter and were advised to select three between the two of us. They were delicious, fresh, well presented and very tasty but a little too big, one each would suffice. We didn’t waste any though! Then we had two mains, Bavette steak and salmon; both superb and the side dishes were exceptional too, broccoli with pomegranate, tomatoes and feta cheese. All washed down with a nice bottle of white wine, Dr Loosen, Estate Riesling.

It started with beautiful cocktails and it ended with me wishing I’d tried harder to save room for a second dessert (the chocolate fudge cake with milk chocolate ice cream) I really enjoyed all of it and I’m extremely jealous of everyone who lives in Hull and can go whenever they like.

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch in this buzzing, popular restaurant. This was the first time to Hearth after hearing good things and seeing the positive reviews. It was also a nostalgia trip, being an avid diner in Studio 101/2 cafe back in the 90s when a student at the Art College in Hull in my youth. The restaurant has a simple, stylish interior and is a pleasant environment to dine. It also appears very well organised and had an abundance of service staff. We were seated in the upstairs restaurant seated opposite the open kitchen. The service was attentive from the staff for ordering and checking on drinks, but the main course food service was fairly slow. We decided on 2 courses and waited 45 minutes after ordering for our mains, which did seem too long. Desserts arrived much quicker, within 10 minutes The food quality is very good homestyle rustic comfort food (which seems to be the new bar set for Michelin guide rated food these days...as home cooked food becomes less the norm of society). Portions are generous, and Sunday lunch trimmings are plentiful. A special note for the meatloaf style sage and onion 'pudding', which was deemed 'excellent'and the roast potatoes were perfectly crisp outside and fluffy inside. The only disappointment was the over seasoning of the food, as all savoury courses and gravy did seem VERY salty. We would have preferred a less salty taste and felt thirsty for several hours after eating. Also, identifying allergies or dietary requirements was not determined upfront by staff, when ordering or any mention. For example, one fish main course arrived at the table with a gravy already poured over the (enormous) yorkshire pudding, and we had to query with the waitress if the gravy was meat free. Which was confirmed. Desserts were excellent, with interesting menu choices, and, again, generous portions. We would return, as the overall experience was enjoyable, but maybe to try the evening menu next time..

What a beautiful Quaint place situated in Hull's Old Town right near the Trinity Church. I would describe this place as Artisan. Very bohemian interior with a gentle atmosphere. The menu can change daily but there is a good choice range including specials. It is meant to be a sharing/tapas place, however we decided to go for individual plates for ourselves as to be perfectly honest, it was too good to share. Don't be put off by the prices as it is worth it for the quality and taste of the food you are getting. The flavours are beautifully combined and very tasty. The potato poems were lush, lathered in truffle, parmesan and a dressing. Very moreish. My friend even wanted the recipe for the sauce to the Scotch egg it was that good. The service were outstanding, especially having to deal with 11 of us. The kitchen stayed open due to us being delayed by traffic. (Hull and its terrible road system, didn't help). We were so grateful for them to do this and the service from Chris especially was second to none. His service was 5* and a true credit to the establishment. All in all, highly recommended a visit. Plus there are some wonderful deserts and fresh bread to take home with you.

We booked a table in the restaurant at Hearth recently for a light lunch on a Saturday after hearing good things from friends. Upon arrival, we found that the bakery and restaurant are slightly different operations- the bakery does brunch, sandwiches, burgers etc. while the restaurant is a more gourmet affair. Luckily, the kind staff offered to let us order from both menus so some of our group had burger and chips while others had the small and large plates from the restaurant menu. They warned us that the food might arrive at different times as it was being prepared by two kitchens, but their communication was excellent and all meals arrived at a similar time. The staff were all friendly and attentive, the food from the bakery was delicious and reasonably priced, and the food from the restaurant menu sounded exciting, and those who ate it enjoyed it (it is a bit pricier than the bakery menu, but you are definitely getting more of an experience with this menu!). The portion size of chips was also excellent, as was the bread from the bakery to start the meal. The venue itself was lovely, and the open kitchen area in the restaurant adds to the dining experience, it was lovely to watch the chefs preparing the meal here. It is clear that the team care greatly about what they do and want to deliver an experience that is second to none. I would definitely recommend this place, both for a 'casual' lunch from the bakery and as a fine dining experience in the restaurant... Next time we will book the right side though!

Wonderful place with really interesting and flavourful dishes. There isn't another restaurant in Hull doing what they do and it's refreshing to see something a bit different. It's all about sharing, you can order small plates and sides or larger plates which are the equivalent of a main meal. For 2 people we got mix of 9 small plates and sides and it was maybe one too many - but we gave it a fair go! My highlight dish was the smoked haddock chouder - could eat that all day long. Variety is the spice of life and my preference is to have lots of smaller dishes, regardless of if they "go together" or not. All dishes were very different from one another which makes for a good range of tastes. Would happily recommend and will be back.

The staff were brilliant, I have allergies and intolerances, the staff went through the menu with the chefs and came back with a menu clearly marked with what I could eat without any changes and what dishes I could have with some adjustments made, which gave me so much to chose from. Highly recommend paying this place a visit, excellent food and service in a lovely setting.

A lovely little find in the centre of Hull! We were looking for a great small plates/sharing menu, and this was a perfect fit. The staff were all very welcoming but not overbearing. The food was 10/10. Standouts were the scotch eggs and beef shin ragu. Wish we had room for dessert too! We will visit again!!

Amazing food at very reasonable prices (i.e., its not cheap, but the quality reflects this), the staff are wonderful and go above and beyond - and its a lovely place to eat in a great location. Would absolutely go back again

One of the best roast dinners we’ve had out! We had the lamb from the special, the sharer roast, and the vegetarian hispi cabbage. Includes Yorkshire, cauliflower cheese, roast seasonal veg, 10/10 gravy. Service was good too. We got the chicken skin snack which we weren’t bothered by and the beef tartare wasn’t quite what we expected, but overall, would 100% recommend and would come again. Good value for what it is too.

4th visit to Hearth, never disappoints. fabulous food, great atmosphere and the staff can not do enough to help you. We couldn’t decide on wine so they let us try a couple until we found one we liked. Service was efficient and friendly and you don’t feel rushed.

Great food! Great environment and great service! I loved the hummus small plate, the smoked pork belly was super tender and the seared stone bass was cooked to perfection 👌
