A magnificent lunch. Spectacular starters and puddings with a very good roast lamb main. Servers were friendly interactive and prompt. Good atmosphere. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Years and years and years of eating Tommy's food here there and everywhere and this is one of my favourites so far. This set lunch menu is outrageously good value for cooking this food: lovely service, great cocktails and an experience to remember.

Every time I tasted something, I was absolutely mind-blown. I had a SHORT tasting menu and it had about 9 different dishes in it. I was so full by the end of it, I can’t believe someone survives the full version. I firmly believe now that the whole reason I was born and emigrated to UK is so one day I could find myself in Cardiff trying Heaneys food. No joke

Heaneys is by far is our favourite restaurant in Cardiff. It never fails to impress and wow us! Every dish is a delightful surprise, a piece of art and an experience in its own right. Staff are lovely, welcoming and very friendly and whenever our party asks for some dietary adjustments, the chef is always happy to accommodate. The restaurant offers a variety of eating options, an affordable set menu, a taster menu and a an A La Carte menu, so plenty to choose from. Till our next visit, keep the culinary creations coming please : )

Greit food and best Wine list in Cardiff.

I am not sure I can remember such a good lunch. And I wasn't even drinking.... The food ran that really difficult balance of being both innovative and imaginative, while at the same time being balanced complete. The staff were relaxed and attentive And the place was informal and relaxed and yet still felt very special. What a great restaurant.

Always wanted to go to Heaneys, and the £35 5 course set lunch menu deal gave us the opportunity (deal was even available on a Saturday). Fair to say it did not disappoint. Absolutely sublime from start to finish and an incredible culinary masterclass. Potato terrine and ox cheek were particular highlights but all of it was 10/10. If you get the chance to go, don’t think twice - it takes the dining experience to another level

First time at Heaneys last night and it was absolutely amazing. All the dishes on the tasting menu were delicious and the sommelier's selection of matched wines were superb! Amazing service, super friendly, can't wait to come back. Was too busy eating and drinking everything to take any proper photos 🤣😋

Great food, the "Michelin star" quality, but without the price!

Booking a midweek meal at a popular Michelin Guide restaurant, from bitter experience, can be hit or miss, but our visit to Heaneys in Cardiff was exceptional. Known for showcasing the finest Welsh ingredients in its tasting menu and expertly curated wine pairings, Heaneys exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, Jake, Alex, and Beth were attentive, skilfully accommodating my wife’s shellfish allergy and moving us to a more spacious table when requested. Their genuine care continued throughout the evening, with every interaction feeling thoughtful and personalised. The tasting menu was a journey of beautifully crafted dishes, each highlighting fresh, seasonal Welsh and British ingredients. The standout Isle of Wight tomato dish was a perfect example of how simplicity can be elevated, paired beautifully with a 2022 Kumusha Chenin Blanc, a wine I wouldn’t have chosen myself. The variety and balance of flavours reflected the team’s ability to turn local produce into a memorable experience. Alex’s wine pairings were equally impressive, as he introduced a diverse selection of wines from Georgia, France, and a beautiful A26 Chardonnay from Napa Valley. Each wine was thoughtfully paired, enhancing the overall dining experience. The service struck a perfect balance between professionalism and warmth, with Jake and Alex happy to discuss ingredients and techniques. The cosy, welcoming atmosphere made the evening all the more enjoyable. Heaneys is more than just a Michelin Guide-listed restaurant; it’s a must-visit destination. Whether for a special occasion or a midweek treat, the superb food, excellent wine pairings, and attentive service make it an unforgettable experience.

coming to this establishment in the morning: I'll say frankly, the coffee is simply terrible (as if someone washed the cup and took out this water for you to drink). 12 pounds for cappuccino and espresso. You position yourself at the highest level, but your barista is terrible.

Had an incredible meal of small plates, each dish was fantastic. Atmosphere is fab and the staff were so attentive and made the whole experience. Shoutout to our waiter Jake who was so passionate and helpful! Can’t wait to come back

Having been here numerous times over the years, we visited last weekend for the 5yr anniversary of visiting the restaurant and it still is as great as I remember (we’ve been a few times between then and now). Tommy has definitely perfected what he wants from Heaneys now and you can see it since we first visited 5yrs ago. The ambience and service is wonderful and the food is just perfect. We had 1 full tasting menu and 1 short. (We shared the dishes that were in the full but not short) and it was the perfect amount. We had a couple of drinks in UISCE afterwards which just finished the night perfectly. Thanks Tommy!

Delicious food, Great customer service.

Amazing tasting menu. I came on a Saturday night and only had the option to do the 8 course tasting menu for $80. Given that u came in on the earlier side for dinner, I was easily able to walk in without a reservation and it was decently quiet in the restaurant. For the tasting menu - Each dish somehow better than the last. All of the dishes were extremely well put together and had a great blend of different flavors. I ordered a beef fat miso old fashioned, highly recommend!

The food at Heaney’s, Cardiff was without a doubt some of the best I have ever had. The set taster menu was an amazing meal, and you can really tell the amount of careful consideration that goes in to every dish. Every single course was an absolute delight and without any hesitation I give this an easy 10/10.

Loved it...fitted us in after we were badly let down by a booking at nearby restaurant...excellent food and service!

Firstly they would not let another person join my table of two. Thinking it must be very busy we didn't try just turning up. However when I arrived they had plenty of room and outside tables too. The amuse bouch was pleasant but my starter of crab risotto was cold tasteless and frankly unpleasant. I chose the beef but the plate was swamped by an enormous Yorkshire pudding two slivers of beef and carrots covered in fennel seeds. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of aniseed . Generally very poor standard of food and service not great. The dessert was by far the best thing a deconstructed Jaffa cake type dessert which was truly lovely. I won't be rushing back it's safe to say.

Had a drink from Harry on the bar and recommended me a great menu drink called the ginger cow. Would recommend, great selection of cocktails as well! They are very flexible on classics and have their own creations too.

This was the first time we visited this place and it was absolutely amazing. We had the best experience here. We went for long tasting menu and the staff or chef would explain all the ingredients for every dish. All the dishes are beautiful presented and everything looks meticulously put together. My partner normally doesn’t eat raw fish, but this time he tried salmon sashimi with seaweed and soy sauce and he absolutely loved it. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion.

Lovely vibe here, with plenty of staff: busy but not overcrowded. Sunday lunch is superb. Anna, our waitress, was so engaging and genuinely interested in her job. Gluten free options were clearly explained and every effort had been made to adapt items by changing coatings rather than just 'leaving things out'. Fishcakes were tasty with mild curry sauce. The lamb roast was perfect size and cooked to perfection (rare lamb, just as it should be). Divine roast potatoes... Lemon posset dessert was tangy with British strawberries. This is a top notch restaurant in a trendy location, fabulous friendly service and very moderate prices. Will def. be back.

Awful from start to finish ! Constant pressure and questions about how Is the food. Food tasted like reheated microwave food!! This place shouldn’t have a Michelin star ! Stay well away Couldn’t even ask for a refund due to the awkwardness of the atmosphere! Fabulous- had the small taster menu - 8 courses. Beautiful looking food as well as tasty. I’m a basic sausage and mash bloke, but the food at Heaneys was wow and the service was exemplary. Pricy mind, but you get what you pay for. Will definitely be back.

Consistently great food. The taster included cheese and onion tart (which tasted much better than it sounds!), Hen of the Wood, hake, fallow deer... all really really good. Thoroughly recommend. They have white lighting though. I would switch to a warmer colour. But apart from that, it really is as good as (or better) than the Michelin star restaurants I've been to.

My friends and I had our first visit this evening . We had a fabulous evening, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. Can't wait for our next visit.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. Food was lovely except the beef for 2 of us was exceedingly fatty, so half the meat was wasted. Which made the meal quite expensive.

We dined in for the tasting menu. Incredible food, with really well thought out flavours. Service was attentive, friendly and not at all stuffy. Thoroughly reccomend.

Brilliant place and worthy of a Michelin star in our opinion. Service was excellent, food was exceptional and the atmosphere was lovely. Better than Home in Penarth and getting close to SY23 in Aberystwyth. Great experience and will go again at some point for sure 👍🏻

A sea trout and baked potato course arrived as a wafer-thin tartlet topped with a froth of, conceivably, spume. It was light and “er, interesting.” Our first course was a bowlful of broth with a side of super-thin slivers of duck – a quackscuttio, if you will. “There’s no right or wrong way to eat this,” said our waiter, which was good to know, especially as we’d not been given any cutlery. Dumping the duck in the broth and downing in one seemed to be the sensible approach, and it was good and meaty. As was its follow-up, the oxtail and anchovy chunklets: all gone ­without hitting the sides.

We recently enjoyed a delightful Sunday lunch at Heanys. For starters, we savoured the fishcake in coconut Thai sauce, bursting with flavour. Moving on to the main course, the succulent and tender lamb dinner had delightful hints of barbecue and garlic. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.

Heaneys Restaurant is a Michelin recommended restaurant in Cardiff. There is different menu variations throughout the week, including tasting menu. Went there for Sunday lunch and had the set menu. The interior is modern and simplistic, very nice. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Our waiter was Grant, he was extremely attentive and anticipated the needs of the guests. Absolute star! The food is absolutely amazing. The aged beef was so flavourful and rich, all the trimmings of the Sunday roast were perfect, had a massive Yorkshire pudding. The vegetarian sunflower seed pithivier was perfect too! The desserts were exceptional! The chocolate choux is perfection! Overall, amazing experience! Definitely recommend visiting! Thank you to the whole team!

Firstly what a warm friendly greeting from the team. We'd rang to say we may be a little late as uber after uber had let us down. We turned up 20min late which we never do i get stressed. However the lady on the phone assured me it would be alright not to worry. Once we arrived we were shown a lovely round table by the window. One of the team brought us water and explained the menu. We went for the short taster with wine for each course. Oh my what a journey! Each dish so different and delicious. Each dish a master piece. Each dish explained to us. Excellent food and service! Particularly liked the marmite butter with bread and the trout.

Lovely restaurant. Great for a special occasion or just a nice meal out. We ate a la carte rather than tasting menu so didn’t get the full experience this time but everything we ordered was delicious. A particular highlight was the warm service too.

Came here for our 1st wedding anniversary. Excellent restaurant with Michelin star quality food and service. We had the long tasting menu and each course was delicious. My wife is lactose intolerant and they accommodated to her needs with no issues. It is pricey but that is to be expected for the quality of food. Courses were weighted towards fish so non fish lovers would struggle with the tasting menu. But having said that I'm not a huge fan of fish but I enjoyed every course. Would definitely return again for a special occasion. I would expect this restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star in the near future.

The baked custard Christmas desert was divine and worth 10/10. The wild sea bass main was also full marks. The trout starter was lacking a little je ne sais quoi so only gets 7/10. But overall it's a great meal out.

The waitress does not know her job. Doesn't understand anything on the menu, gives random and irresponsible suggestion, have to ask kitchen/bar staff for all questions I have. Give wrong information and is impatient throughout. Tricked me into ordering more than I could eat. Food is ok. Good wine.

This was an unforgettable evening with the most delicious tasting menu and superb wine pairings. The food was phenomenal, the front of house staff were great and gave an insightful summary of the wine pairings. The tuna tartar, oysters, and mushrooms were simply outstanding and my firm favourites. Thank you Chef Tommy Heaney and the team - it was incredible!

As an original crowd funder and a regular customer since then, I feel I must comment on the lack of Customer Service. My wife lost her locket and chain to which she had a great sentimental attachment. I phoned the restaurant the morning after our dinner and asked if they had found it, I was told they had not, but would check with the staff and look through their camera footage and get back to me, they did not. I then emailed them with the same request, but again no response. I emailed them a second time, again no response. What an absolute disgrace that they did not have the common decency to reply. Suffice to say, I will not be returning. Philip Denton.

I completely understand why this is one of the top places in Cardiff. Every course was delightful, the staff were lovely and the vibe was good. Our favourite courses were the bbq lamb (that gravy!) and the sea bass was so well seasoned and crispy. The ginger and vanilla parfait were a fab way to end the meal. All flavour combinations were spot on and overall as a menu it was perfectly balanced. I’ll be back, for sure.

We went for a family birthday celebration. Firstly, we tried to submit a pre-order and weren’t actually provided with a correct menu until a day or two before, which made coordinating for 15 people pretty chaotic. Then on arrival, we found our larger group had been split into three separate tables, one big and two small, which made it impossible for us to interact as one family group. The service started well but the waitress looking after us was rude and had an unnecessarily sassy air about her the entire time. It was almost impossible to get the attention of the staff and drinks orders were forgotten more than once. The food was pretty good but far from exceptional. At the end they forgot to bring my coffee - by the time I managed to get the waitress’s attention, everyone else had nearly finished theirs and my uncle had just settled the bill. Rather than just bring my very delayed coffee over with apologies, the waitress arrived with the coffee and a card machine to charge me the extra £2.80!! I refused to pay it and she responded “whatever” before slamming the coffee in front of me and storming off. To add insult to injury, they charged us an extra £40 because my sister in law was ill, so she and my brother weren’t able to make it. I can understand a deposit system for no-shows, but given we still had a 13 people spending a significant sum on a three course meal with drinks and wine, this felt like a really cheap move. Unfortunately the better-than-average food is severely let down by the passive aggressive service and cheap low-blows like charging us because two of our party of 15 couldn’t make it! We definitely won’t be back.

After a lot of recommendations, drove 4 hours to meet up with my son and try this place out for his birthday- food was on point, staff where friendly however, if one orders sides and they are not available - the customer should be informed an offered options, if ones payment method isn't accepted, one shouldn't be told its old fashion, just asked for another, one maybe over 50 but wasn't the oldest customer of the day!

This place is a gastronomical delight. I highly suggest the ‘long’ tasting menu - even though it was 10 courses, they are all lovely and small and manage to offer completely different flavour experiences. Of particular note was the incredible mackerel dish - it was a flavour explosion! Special shout-out to our server, who recommended a Georgian wine that was sublime! He also taught us (very patiently) how to say phrases in Welsh, and really went above and beyond!

Excellent all round. Food was perfectly cooked, great quality and without fault. Service was exceptional, our server, Ben, was informative on the food and attentive. All staff were friendly and welcoming. We eat out often, including Michelin restaurants and can confidently say Heaney’s is among the top restaurants we’ve visited for food, service and atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable. We’ll definitely be back.

Had the 9 course tasting menu and wine pairing. One of the best we have had First Class.

Although been to Heaney’s many times this was our first for a Sunday lunch: family of 3. As always the service was outstanding and particular attention paid to our 6 year old. The main beef course was superb as were accompanying veggies. Choice of desserts we also very good. Once again Heaney’s proves itself to be at the top end of restaurants in the city.

I was so looking forward to having a great birthday meal with my husband but sadly was very underwhelmed and came away feeling rather cheated. The taster menus (7 or 8 courses, 9 if you pay extra for the oyster) included sourdough bread with butter marmite whip as one course and also a sorbet which was refreshing but not really a course. The ‘mains’ ( duck and fish) were very rich and the fish too salty and they both lacked any carbohydrate (the only carbohydrate throughout the meal was one piece of bread as a starter and the cheese tart). We had the paired wines which was ridiculously expensive for what it was. The portion size for each wine can’t have been much more than 100mls. Also the waiter when describing each wine was constantly putting his thumb over the opening of the bottle. During our meal we had 5 white wines and 1 red, then the last ‘wine’ was not really a wine as it was only 5% alcohol and tasted like a bad Asti Spumante. I had hope for a delicious dessert wine considering the cost of the pairing. We did give some feed back during our meal but it felt like we weren’t taken seriously. Looking back on previous reviews Heaneys seem to have cut back on the more costly ingredients in the tasting menu without reducing the price. Sad as clearly the menu involves a lot of culinary skill.

How can they make things taste so good. The little cheese pie fills your mouth with a flavour explosion. The oysters WOW amazing full of taste and excellent. The quality of the food is outstanding and when you get a glimpse in the kitchen and see how many people are working to make this food it all makes sense. They do offer a number of price options which helps and means we can eat here more often as we don’t need to go all out. The staff are attentive but not too much. Can not wait for our next visit which is booked for next week, the new menu is due out so looking forward to new tastes. Great place to visit.

We had to cancel our table for 4 on the morning of our reservation due to some unforeseen circumstances (2nd July) - we were then charged £80 on the 3rd July - very very disappointed & would like to forewarn everyone of this policy - will definitely remember this unfortunate occurrence- it has left a very sour taste in our mouths - not very customer friendly at all

Holy Moly. Overpriced. Will never return. Firstly, I have no issues with paying well for really good food. It was good food - tasty. But felt completely ripped off. 100pounds [one non alcoholic beer and tap water] for a bowl of olives, one starter, two small plates and a main. One of the small plates which included half a tomato cut into quarters [no exaggeration], thin strip of courgette and a small other bit of fanciness was 12 pounds. Husband had a main of beef which included two strips of beef 7x2x2cm; 20% of which was a thick layer of fat. This was 30pounds. Some notions.

We could only book a table for 5pm, which was a bit early for our liking. However, when we arrived they were able to seat us outside, as it was nice warm evening. The service was excellent. We ordered the long tasting menu with wine pairing, every course was really great, and the wines, whilst not spectacular, complemented nicely. The bill for six people was £1,000, whilst two people did not have the wine pairing. I found this to be rather expensive. We really enjoyed our evening, the food flavours were really great, but did not consider this to be great value, we could have eaten a bit more. I would recommend this culinary experience as a treat, but make sure you are not massively hungry beforehand.

Visited for lunch and we both decided to have the short tasting menu. We have been many times but this choice proved to be very special. Megan who served us was absolutely top drawer. We plan to book Sunday lunch next !

We went for the NYE tasting menu and it didn’t disappoint, delicious food! Yes it isn’t cheap but totally worth it and value for money given how full we were! We don’t eat meat (only fish) and they amended the menu seamlessly. We will be back soon!

Went on a Saturday lunchtime after hearing good reports and was not disappointed. Decided on the lunchtime menu with some sides and everyone was delighted with their choice. Everything great quality and staff really friendly. We look forward to returning to try their tasting menu. Overall a great experience.

We came for an anniversary celebration. Whilst knowing the meal would not be cheap we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We had the taster menu: the food was excellent as was the service from the waitress who was really friendly throughout the evening.
