Caffe Fach in Cardiff

I sent a private message to apply then I was told I was full of bs and also called a loser afterwords and got an attitude problem just for applying and being honest. Never happened to me before. Amazing stuff guys

Excellent food and service, This was our 2nd visit and we highly recommend Caffè Fach will be going back soon.

What a gem! My elderly aunt asked to go there for lunch, as she has enjoyed previous visits (as had my partner). Although the chairs offered insufficient lumber support for my back problems, a rolled up blanket was provided to solve the problem. Not knowing the menu (and anything you can find for this café online is completely out of date), I had been apprehensive about their ability to cater for my onion intolerance. I needn’t have worried. Although their standard sauces and gravies have stock containing onions (as do all restaurants), they were more than willing to adapt any of the dishes where possible without notice, and I very much enjoyed my herb-crumbed Hake, mash and mixed vegetables. My aunt enjoyed the same dish. I enjoyed a rhubarb and strawberry crumble with ice-cream for dessert, and my aunt had a half serving ( a great facility) of chocolate roulade. When we had finished, co-owner and chef Pete, came over to sit and chat. He said that with a day’s notice he would make any of their dishes to suit my intolerance – I had really fancied the liver and bacon, but the available gravies had onion in some form. Next time! It’s not the first time a chef has sat with me to discuss such matters, but it’s probably happened fewer than a dozen times in 50 years. It’s also good to know that most of the items are home- made. The front of house staff were also great, and at a total cost of £33, excellent value for the quality of food. My one reservation was that my apple juice (which seemed to be from concentrate) was served at room temperature, not chilled. They don’t have a licence to sell alcohol, but perhaps could stock some ‘low 0.5% or zero alcohol’ drinks, which don’t require a licence and aren’t as sweet as the carbonated drinks.

A little gem in our Rhiwbina community. Food the highest standard and staff exceptional. Would recommend but book as so popular.

Lovely feeling well maintained and very atmospheric English place with great food! We dropped in here on occasion but it turned out to be a very good breakfast/lunch place. Would 1000% recommend the breakfasts and dessert!

I shared in our annual lunch with 19 other members of Rhiwbina Society. We all enjoyed a lovely 2 course lunch, mints with tea or coffee. Well done Maria & Peter.

Lovely place but gets full so booking is advised. Soup with finger cheese toasties is a must in this cold weather. Great varied menu at reasonable price.

£7.50 for a breakfast all on it is a few beans, 1 sausage, 2 small burnt bacon, 1 egg, 1 hash brown and a tea spoon of mushrooms all served in a tiny cardboard box, seen bigger baby portions than this

Excellent food and cheerful staff. We had breakfast and it was very good. There's a small place in the back of the cafe with 3 benches, which was very nice. Overall very happy with experience.

Los propietarios habían preparado varios platos de comida de fiesta que estaban deliciosos y muy bien presentados. Había mucha comida para todos. Incapaz de comentar sobre la clasificación de higiene de los alimentos, pero el lugar estaba limpio y ordenado. También la cocina que se podía ver desde el restaurante principal. Definitivamente volvería a ir por comida y café.

Attended one of their monthly Friday night dinners. Great choice of menu. The Sea bass and the chicken/mango starters were delicious. The salmon/haddock lattice main was a work of art! Honeycomb ice-cream was delicious. Great service, friendly staff. Bring your own wine. No wonder these evenings are booked up months in advance!

Have visited a few times and have always been made extremely welcome even when we have turned up with pushchairs and bikes! The kids are always welcomed and staff polite and make an effort to come and say hello. The coffee milkshake is to die for, so my friend informs me! The banana and strawberry are equally immense!! Allergies are catered for, with a soya milkshake made without a bat of an eyelid. The cakes are also incredibly scrummy! It is definitely one of our favourite places to call into for a sweet treat!

Lovely tea cakes, coffee and Earl Grey tea. Everyone enjoyed their visit to friendly Caffe Fach and we will certainly return for our next get together.

Lovely place to eat but the desserts are far too expensive; £4.50 for miniscule dessert is massively overpriced and the chairs are incredibly uncomfortable.

What a fab place this cafe is. We went for a midweek lunch and fortunately had booked. The menus are on blackboards on the walls and an excellent choice from soup, sandwiches to light bites and substantial meals. Very enticing looking desserts and cakes too! When we ordered, we were told there would be a wait which there was of 30/40 minutes. This was no problem. There were 7 of us who all ordered cooked meals and the restaurant was busy. What I liked in particular was that we could have chips or fries (both optional extras) with our meals. I prefer fries so was very pleased. 2 of our party had tuna panini which were very generous portions. 2 had traditional fish cakes with salad and chips and 3 of us had Thai fish cakes with salad and chips/fries. All the meals were freshly cooked and of very high standard. The fish cakes were quite large and crunchy on the outside. The Thai fish cakes were not too spicy and the seasoning was on the top instead of inside. That was a really good decision as one could scrape some off if too spicy. I am not a fan of ginger so could remove it. Delicious crunchy mixed side salad and coleslaw. Perfect place for lunch. It's a shame that it was quite hot and no air con but it didn't spoil it for us. We'll be back.

After reading reviews we decided to stop here for breakfast, as they were mostly positive and spoke of good quality food. Parking was easy, directly outside, so all started well, unfortunately, the experience from there went a little down hill. The breakfast I thought was quite expensive and didn’t include tea, two breakfast with pot of tea for two cost £17 which would be ok, if all the ingredients were good quality and it was well cooked. But it wasn’t! It was a real mix of good and bad... toast good, but cheap horrible spread, nice sausages, cheap beans, bacon ok, oily few scraps of mushrooms, undercooked tomatoes and over cooked egg. Overall it was a small portion of food for the money and therefore not worth returning too.

We enjoyed a delicious duck salad and spaghetti bolognaise followed by amazing warm bakewell tart with ice-cream and lemon drizzle cake to die for. Such wonderful staff who were so friendly and attentive. Our dog was welcomed and spoilt with a treat and we were not rushed off and had a lovely relaxing lunch sat in the sun. We would highly recommend this lovely eatery and will definitely return.

Ate here with friends on a busy Friday evening & had a fantastic meal,beautifully cooked & presented. Staff were all lovely. Only 1 little moan, large wine glasses would be much better when you are bringing your own expensive red wine, dont think anyone uses v small glasses these days. I was very wary about coming here because of their 1 hygiene rating but the whole place inc kitchen looked immaculately clean, strange. Will defo be back.

Excellent dinner tonight, food beautifully cooked & presented, staff very friendly, will defo be back, have to wait until Nov, fullybooked.( but why hygiene rating of 1, kitchen & dining room looked immaculately clean, v.strange.) Large wine glasses would be nice, nobody drinks out of those small glasses these days, especially when you’r drinking nice red wine.

We have driven past this cafe so many times. On Saturday we decided to stop and try it for breakfast. The cafe is clean, welcoming and the staff are lovely. The Breakfast Roll and coffee that we ordered arrived hot and plentiful. It was so good we are going to try lunch next. Really worth a visit.

I have been using Caffe Fach for quite some time now and always enjoy going there. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the chefs Maria and Pete are so accommodating- often changing meals to suit the different dietary requirements of my friends. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I often go for lunch and sometimes even just for a coffee as it's lovely to chat with the waitresses and other regular customers. The food is restaurant quality at reasonable prices and everything is home made. This is definitely my eating place of choice.

Love calling in here with the wife for a breakfast and a coffee. Anything from a full breakfast to a sausage sandwich. Full range of teas and coffees too. Lunch always looks great, especially the daily specials, need to try these soon.

The past week my girlfriend and I have been travelling and eaten lots of cooked breakfasts. The “Full Welsh” breakfast we had here is by far the best and we would highly recommend it!

came accross this cafe and popped in - good idea.. clean light and friendly.. even asking for something not on the menu was no problem at all .. and my omeltte was delicious .. fluffy and just how it should be and so impressed with...

El muchacho que estaba trabajando aclaró nuestra mesa de los clientes anteriores, pero nunca tomó nuestra orden, así que aún estaban sentados allí para un buen 10 minutos. Otro cliente apareció y se sentó y se sirve de inmediato. Así que mi marido y yo decidimos dejar y dar alguien nuestro negocio. Le pensaría dos veces en volver allí.

The staff here are really good, food is okay but the downside of this little café is the cook, went there last week, he came out to talk to some customer, I have never ever seen such a dirty apron on any cook and on top of that he had 3 dirty filthy teacloths tucked into the back of the apron, seeing this I would really hesitate to order anything, pity really as it has such good potential.

Had lunch with the wife, I had the Thai Fishcakes and she had the Chicken Millanaise. Both were superb well presented and very tasty. I have eaten here 5 times now and would have no problem recommending Cafe Fach to anyone. Lovely establishment, with great food.

Really nice coffee shop with good prices abs friendly staff. The shop is also spacious and you can sit outside when it's warm enough.

We visited this cosy coffee shop for Saturday brunch and were not disappointed. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and we were given the choice of white or brown bread. The pot of tea gave three generous cupfulls and was a good strength using tea leaves. i am looking forward to returning at a lunchtime for their cauliflower soup! Another veggie option of stuffed aubergine sounded lovely too. The staff are very friendly and coped well with lots of weekend customers.

It's under new management and it's obvious that the new people are keen to succeed. We were very pleased with everything we ordered. Nice ambience too. Plenty of parking nearby.

We used to go to this cafe regularly and looked forward to the breakfast on the weekend - French toast or pancakes, bacon and maple syrup. However on our last visit we were disappointed that French toast was off the menu, so had pancakes with bacon instead. They were nowhere near as nice as had been previously and there was no maple syrup either (we did ask). Disappointingly we are now looking for a new cafe for breakfast at the weekend.

Very nice café, spotless and inviting, popular with locals. Very friendly staff. Coffee is excellent, and light bites such as egg and bacon sarnies (very good) and soup (ham was delicious) and lovely cakes. Not exactly cheap, but worth it.

We went with our two small children and the waitress couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. The food wasn't bad either!

Great sandwich with home made cole slaw, delicious chips and tea made with tea leaves. Want to try the afternoon tea and the fish and chips. Probably means two visits!

Having ordered breakfast and it being served to me missing 1/3 of its vital ingredients I was informed they were no longer serving maple syrup with the pancakes as it was too expensive. I should have been told before I ordered but wasn't, mistakes happen. I was not asked if I would like to order anything else. There was no appology. In fact the staff could not have been less helpful. Unfortunatly I will not be returning to a cafe were customers are made to feel so unimportant.

Stopped here for weekday lunch before a family funeral. The place was busy and popular with families and older groups. Nearly all the tables were full. Fare is simple sandwiches soups with a couple of main meal specials. Waiting staff are young and friendly - nothing formal.Was very warm the day we went. A bit much for a sunny day, but probably very welcome when you are looking for a hot coffee in winter.

Recently moved to area and this little cafe is a lovely treat. Fresh cakes, yummy milkshakes and tasty toasties! Polite and friendly staff too.

I visited Caffe Fach with a group of friends from work. I had sea bass as a main which was amazing. I finished my meal with cheesecake and fresh berries. The waiting staff were very attentive and couldnt do enough for us.I'll definately be going back soon to sample more hopefully delicious food..

If you want something simple like a sandwich or fish and chips in a cafe, you could do worse than go here. Coffee not too shabby either. Polite staff, laid back atmosphere. Reasonable price so don't expect Cordon Bleu. I like the Posh Fish Sandwich (Salmon and fish fingers).

Only discovered this recently although drive past it most weeks. What a lovely warm, welcoming place. Their hot chocolate is warming and delicious. great selection of home made cakes and a little taster of Bara Brith was very tempting! Beautifully baked, warm wholemeal scone was a nice accompaniment to my drink. I watched other diners enjoying fish and chips and all seemed to be enjoying their meals. The young waitress was very sweet and couldn't be more helpful. They treat you as if you are important to them. This has become my new place to meet friends for coffee. Also great prices.

We popped in to Caffè Fach on the spur of the moment as we were both a bit peckish and didn't fancy cooking. We both ordered cawl which was tasty with plenty of lamb, but it was a bit on the pricey side for what was basically lamb stew. We ended with two coffees and a bill for just under £21. The place itself is welcoming enough but the decor is a bit of a hotchpotch and doesn't really add to the ambience of the place. We will probably pop back to Caffè Fach at some point but I don't think it will become one of our regular haunts.

Went for lunch at Café Fach an I had a lovely time, it's verry well set out and is very welcoming! The staff are lovely and the food is good and reasonable, I had a lot of tea, chocolate cake, chips and a large toasty for £10. The portion sizes are generous. My only complaint is it was really cold so I had to keep my coat on! Café Fach! Turn the central heating on and next time, i may give you 5*!

I really cannot understand how the cafe only got a 1 in the hygiene rating. This surely can't be just about hygiene. I've been going there on and off for a few years when I visit Rhiwbina and have always had good food and the tea is real tea leaves, a rarity today. Could they have fallen down on the admin side somehow. It won't stop me going there. I notice they have their regulars and they are always made to feel very welcome

I used to really like this place and visited often as I live nearby BUT I've recently noticed that their Scores on the Doors food hygiene rating is just 1...! I don't care how nice the food tastes or how clean the loos are. I won't even be buying a coffee here until they get 4 or above. I can't believe they only got 1 when kebab places on Caroline St score much higher. But they still seem busy so clearly not everyone cares about food hygiene.

I went here for a private evening function, and it was very good. It is not a large place and there were 40 of us, waited on by 2 staff with one person in the kitchen. We each had a 3 course pre set meal and the food was delicious, servings were large and although the service was slow, the party hosts had organised lots of entertainment to keep everyone happy. A good night was had by all.

Caffe Fach is just fab! I often stop in for a coffee - which is excellent - but their food is amazing too. In the winter their homemade, gutsy, rich and tasty soups are just the thing. What really impresses me is the combination of ingredients. Really unusual and creative and always great. Wether you want morning coffee, a light lunch (chips are fab but menu much more sophisticated than that!) or afternoon tea (they have a good selection of different types) you won't be disappointed. Lots of people use it as a regular haunt so that says it all!Their Supper Clubs mean that we can enjoy fine dining once a month in the evenings too. Doggy friendly (you can sit outside and theres a bowl of water for the pooches) its a great stopping off point mid walk. Service friendly and efficient. Fresh cooked local ingredients.Highly recommended

Lovely meal/ snack whenever I have been there. I have heard the coffee is excellent, but I don't drink coffee. They are very family friendly & have always been eager to please. The only thing I would say is the service is a bit slow.

This local cafe run by Mario & Maria offer good home cooked food in good surroundings. It's more than just a cafe it's Bistro atmosphere is fab. They have themed nights (ie) valentine /St David's day always sold out. Excellent local cafe well worth a visit..... Try their soups mmmm gorgeous and so filling.

A warm welcome awaits you at this busy cafe in the suburbs of Cardiff. I usually meet friends here and they serve the nicest coffee in the area at a very reasonable price. I have had lunch here on a couple of occasions and the food is excellent. There is a regular menu and extra daily specials to add interest.

We had a small gathering of work colleagues that this very nice little cafe. The menu was very interesting and the food I had was great. You can't fault the service as the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

This is my favourite place to eat on a regular basis.I started going here because the Americano coffee is the best for miles around, and Mike`s home-made thick cut marmalade is the just as I like it. I have since explored the entire menu, on my own or with friends, and have enjoyed every meal - especially the Posh Fishfinger sandwich. However, it is the daily specials that keep me coming back for more. From the soups and broths to the traditional meals of fish and chips, pasta or casseroles to the superb pan fried fish and inventive salads Mike delivers quality and inventiveness from his kitchen every day. Oh that and the fact that everyone that works there is genuinely a nice person and the overall great value.

I must say that it is hard to find a better cafe in Cardiff. The coffee is first class. The lunches are well presented and always a pleasure. The staff are also charming and friendly. I wish they would open earlier in the morning is my only complaint.

I suspect the regular propieter was off duty the day I attempted to eat here as the two flushed looking teenagers looked hassled. There was a baby crying in the cafe as well as one crying in the kitchen somewhere. They said there would be a delay on the food and the general impression was that they were not coping so I left as I didn't want to wait for the food as they had announced a delay

the caffe has the cleanest toilets of any cafe i have ever been in, and the food is out of this world!!! Exceptionally good value for money, brilliant choice of freshly prepared, mouth watering food. In my top 5 of eateries in Europe that i have visited!!

This is one of our favourite places for breakfast, coffee,lunch, any time in fact! The owners, Mario and Maria are always welcoming and Mike is a great cook who makes just about everything himself, including the jam, marmalade, fudge, and all the gorgeous cakes. My husband raved so much about the satsuma marmalade, Mike sold us a jar of it! There is a good variety of meals, snacks, breakfasts as well as daily specials on the blackboard. Everything is well cooked and well presented. I have never yet eaten anything in Caffe Fach that I have not enjoyed. One of my favourites is smoked salmon and scrambled eggs - so simple and yet so easy to get wrong. Mike cooks scrambled eggs to perfection. It is worth making a detour to visit this hidden gem in north Cardiff - believe me, you will not be disappointed.

We were visiting family who live near and found this Caffe to be excellent, friendly and lovely food. Coffee very good and hot chocolate with Baileys extra special! We had lunch followed by a lemon drizzle cake, warm mocha syrup cake and chocolate brownie all of us thought these were really superb.

Delicious, home-prepared food, good service, pleasant atmosphere. There is plenty of parking nearby.

Went with an aunt who lives near, a real change from a pub lunch, tuna panini superb, gorgeous coleslaw!Very friendly, relaxed, nice bacckground music, excellent value, they are working hard and deserve lots of success.

Lunch at a cafe in a suburban shopping centre ? Doesn't sound great does it ? Well I had to think again. A warm welcome to a cafe already pretty full (always a good sign) of families old and young. The menu was varied but reasonable in price. My partner and our aunt had huge omelettes, I had a wonderful fish and chips and we shared pots of tea. And the bill came to under £20. How good is that ? My aunt visits there regularly and was greeted like an old friend. Young ladies with small children were attended to with care and friendly attention to the little ones, older people treated with respect and humour. Food and atmosphere were the very best.
