Restaurant doesn't exist anymore unfortunately

We were disappointed by some of the food but very disappointed by the cleanliness of toilets and the inappropriate music being played. Expletive laden rap has its place but perhaps not in a restaurant.

Hong Kong born and bred here. Unfortunately this was a disappointing experience. The menu was more generic UK Chinese food than anything specifically Hong Kong or Cantonese about it. The food was poor in both taste and quality. The batter fried chicken was bready and tough, and the gong po sauce lacked spice. Worst of all the rice was hard and dry which was surprising for a Chinese restaurant. The chips were the only thing that was very good. The wait staff were lovely and made us feel welcomed, and the decor was quite fun.

The food, the price and the staff is perfect. We have chicken wing-salted&chilli which is perfect fried and chicken satay - very big portion

Sceptical of some reviews I ate here tonight and it was amazing! Daniel and morven (hope it’s spelled right) were great and very friendly, food was lovely and the music was an added nice touch, P.S Daniel takes music requests 🤙🏻🤘🏼

We only chose here because there are so few decent Chinese food outlets in town now. I wish we had just stuck with something we know. Sesame prawn toast - okay but little burned. Salted chilli barbeque ribs - okay but a bit overcooked and no sign of any barbeque. Tofu curry - really horrible. A mass of oil and grease and a bright yellow sauce with the oddest lumps of tofu in it that I have ever seen. If you told me it was cheese I would have believed you. No spice worth mentioning in it either. Utterly ghastly. Shredded duck bun with hoi sin sauce - it was OK. Duck spring roll - seemed fine. Egg fried rice - pretty devoid of egg. Total bill was between 30-40 pounds. There are better places to go than this, unless we picked a really off night.

On a visit to Edinburgh we chose to eat here: random choice. BEST TASTING Chinese meal in a very long time. Excellent value. Could see that restaurant was very busy with the take away/delivery service, but this did not impact on table service. Staff were delightful. Cafe style minimalist decor perhaps doesn't make for a romantic night out, but the food was .....the best.

Quite disappointed with one thing: the food item (main) was missing from the order and when I phoned the restaurant I was told I need to sort it out myself on the app, i.e. ask for refund. I would be happy if they delivered it and I asked for it but they say they can’t, and that I had to deal with the app refund portal. It wasn’t difficult but it’s just shame. The rest was okay, but other main was quite bland and they only had one rice side available, just plain boiled rice, so quite boring. Noy

Great place. Would recommend their prawn toast. I would have gotten another if my stomach weren't full (large portions :0). Also very sweet kitchen porter. Definitely a must try. Worth it!

Not safe for coeliacs. Ordered from their "Gluten Free" menu and was glutened. Ruined my weekend. Don't go here if you're coeliac. Non GF food was lovely and enjoyed by the others but this is not a safe restaurant.

The food was really nice but the place lacked atmosphere. However, this most likely was due to it being Christmas Eve. The front door wasn't able to be closed properly, so it was draughty as it kept swinging open. This made you feel that you had to eat quickly to stop your food from getting cold. Unfortunately, halfway through, it became so. It's unfortunate as that is the only thing really letting it down. We hope that by the time this review is up, the door will be fixed.

The starters we had were okay, both duck ones. The two mains we didn’t eat, the sauce was okay but the meat is such poor quality it’s horrible. The chicken is like jelly, it’s so rubbery I couldn’t eat more than one bite, then the beef dish was even worse, it was weirdly fatty and squishy. This is the worst quality meat I have ever had, I can’t believe people actually enjoy eating from here. Never again.

Wow!! What a treat we had. We were just walking back to our hotel and noticed this place thought we’d give it a try as we didn’t know what we fancied. The best Chinese restaurant we’ve been to! It was unbelievably tasty and we can’t wait to visit again already ! Service was amazing and food was so worth it !! Decent price as well plenty of food :)

I order from here all the time asking for extra spicy as the food is comforting and delicious!! But today I found a lil hair in my fried rice, so just a bit sad about it but I know it wasn’t intentional and I’d still come back! 5/5 :)

Crispy chili chicken was unfortunately very spicy . Noodles were a bit tasteless. Ashame as normally much better

In Edinburgh for 2 nights after having lunch out at the Dome decided we wanted a takeaway. Fancied Chinese as we can’t get a good one near home! Ordered online via the Deliveroo once again we don’t get to do this at home due to being in the Countryside. Fantastic service from start to finish food was with us in Grassmarket by 52 mins! I’m impressed, delivery guy very friendly, food was excellent, piping hot, loved the ribs and the noodles with bean sprouts. Would recommend and would order again . Thank you!

Phoned the restaurant 1 hour and 15 mins after I placed my order, they told me they were still waiting for the driver to be assigned. It was assigned shortly after they did it manually but still took a further hour to arrive.

The food here is excellent, SO tasty and beautifully presented! The mixed platter for starter was absolutely delicious. The waiter was so friendly and helpful, he really seemed to do his best. We as a family had had a long and stressful day of travelling and ended up in this restaurant by chance but we would all love to come back. Beautiful decor too. Thank you.

Excellent, they offer a great selection of gluten free food for coeliacs. Great understanding which was comforting. The food was lovely, and all the staff were really friendly, helpful and patient.

Ordered from here plenty of times. Just received the worst watery curry I've ever had. Completely inedible and went down the sink. Called the restaraunt for a chat, because generally the food from here has been good quality. I was told that perhaps the curry had sat waiting for collection, if the curry was well produced it would have the opposite effect - the consistency was just all wrong, double the amount of water.

Heavenly food. Friendly service. We came back a second time and enjoyed our meal again.

Great for a quick casual Chinese. Give it a go, even though it might not look like your sort of restaurant. Prices are reasonable, portions generous and the menu has quite a few 'different' items on it that you don't normally find, which made a refreshing change. It is clearly very popular for take-outs...the orders never stopped coming in. Excellent service.

Food was average and quite bland. Not bad as such just not very tasty and a bit dissappointing.

The food was very good and the waiter was lovely. The place should improve the atmosphere a bit. Maybe flower, something to brighten the place up.

The worst Chinese I have ever had Kitchen looks filthy as do the chefs. Nice young lad serving but food was disgusting. Duck with pancakes awful. The duck was deep fried hard slices not shredded at all. Starters looked and tasted terrible . No customers on a Friday night should have been a warning sign Toilets also filthy dont think I’ve ever seen a sink so small I’ve seen bigger bird bath .

Popped in after rugby, great wee find. Friendly staff and really enjoyed my lemon chicken, fried rice, washed down with a buddha beer! Stole some of the wife's chicken satay which was also delicious. We'll be back.👍

I just ordered a takeaway from them. The service was really good but the taste wasn’t to my liking. It was salty (chicken noodle soup and beef chow mien) and lacked the umami flavour. After reading through their reviews I saw they don’t use MSG, MSG is one of the reasons I love Chinese takeout. So, if you like salty food or don’t want MSG, this place will be good for you because their prices are very affordable.

A bit disappointing and sugary - feels like it's lost the special taste the place had when it first opened, I'm afraid.

The food was awful. My chicken fried rice tasted like fish, my husband's lemon chicken was inedible and the salt levels were through the roof. The prawn crackers had obviously been cooked in old oil. So expensive and so disappointing - so much uneaten food. Never again.

I don’t know if the dining in and takeaway experiences are different but there’s no way on this planet it should get 4.4 for a take away. The spring rolls were soggy and had no texture at all. The chicken balls were massively overcooked and inedible, the chowmein was bland and the chicken fried rice had an odd taste to it too. Ended up ditching it and ordering a Domino’s instead. Not good at all.

It’s got 4.5 stars on Deliveroo, absolutely garbage… chicken satay tastes like pork… so tough where it’s been re-heated, peanut sauce so watery it doesn’t even cost the chicken. The egg fried rice has a chemical smell to it… defiantly not authentic Chinese egg fried rice. Shredded crispy chicken… might as well be soggy leather in a runny over sugar sauce. More sauce then anything else. Deliveroo needs to screw. Who review these places because it’s absolute atrocious. Even with the discount provided with Deliveroo -£10! Is shocking… In regards to you’re comments below. I informed Deliveroo. Delivery was only 3 mins up the road. What would you of done? Remade the food? Please don’t be a fool and assume everything is about MSG. You do not know me or my dining experiences. This is not good ‘English Chinese’ maybe you should explore UK and try other Chinese restaurants then you’ll understand were most of these comments are coming from. 🙏

Delicious fresh food. Interesting menu, second time ordered from here and very good. Great veggie/vegan options.

Came in on a Tuesday evening and we were the only customers. Food and service was good but was very off putting by the waitress washing the floor while serving us. Such a shame as it put a dampner on our visit. The floor was incredibly slippy, such a health hazard. I think they should do the cleaning when customers are not dining.

We dined in the restaurant quite early in the evening. We were the only diners, but we were made to feel welcome and it was warm with music playing for ambience. There were delivery drivers coming in constantly; but that's to be expected. The gluten free menu was much more limited than the normal one so we ordered most of it, and it was delicious! We had prawn crackers, crispy chicken, tofu and prawns, and chilli chips, all suitable for me as a coeliac! Coeliac celiac gluten free GF

Always amazing food! We had someone with coeliacs disease in our group and Hau Han were so helpful at advising us and making sure that everything we needed to be gluten free was! Definitely recommend (also the chips are amazing! 10/10)

La comida no está del todo mal, però el ambiente es muy pobre y necesitaría un mínimo de atención por parte de los propietarios. No hay ventilación de ningún tipo en un restaurante donde el tipo de comida que se cocina viene generalmente frita. Para nada agradable

The staff at restaurant was lovely, the food arrived very very late and restaurant staff really tried to help us out. I would recommend ordering from this place but using a different delivery partner. Menu log has been disappointing and you can’t contact them when things don’t go as planned.

The mains were really good. There was only about 6 prawn crackers in the bag and they weren’t that great.

Regularly get take out and dine in. Absolutely delicious hot, fresh, flavoursome food every time. Recommend the salt and chilli king prawns as a starter. 10/10.

We order take away regularly from Hau Han as vegetarians, and love the fact there is no MSG in their dishes. We decided to dine in last night and the food was superb. We had sweet and sour tofu, veg chow mien, veg spring rolls. It was a busy Saturday night, including some noticeable difficult customers sitting at a large table near us whom were extremely rude to their server. I wanted to express that the staff visibly tried their best in the situation they were put in, and we were appalled by the table’s behaviour. Thanks again, we’ll be back!

Chicken curry was terrible, so bland absolutely not what I was expecting at all. Couldn’t eat it. Chowmein and chicken satay however were delicious so think I may have just got a bad batch of the curry… hoping not always like that!

Banana fritters were really good. Vegetables & broccoli dish was okay. Fried rice was dry. The tofu bun was kind of bland. The dishes available are more catered to locals wanting Chinese takeaway, but I guess that's inevitable if there aren't enough Hong Kongers around to create the demand for traditional dishes? My favourite Cantonese dishes weren't there. Wasn't particularly quick for takeaway despite it not being busy around 5pm on a weekday. The servers didn't speak Cantonese when I went but they were friendly

Stopped by here for dinner before a book signing event. We got lucky stumbling across this wee gem! Gorgeous setting, lovely food and very kind, helpful staff. We don’t know Edinburgh too well and the staff went above and beyond to help us work out the buses to get to and from our destination.

Very disappointed. Really not sure how this was voted in the top 10 Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh. The others we tried were fully booked for a reason. Would not recommend.

How this premises was voted in the Edinburgh top 10 Chinese restaurants is beyond me. All of the other restaurants we tried were obviously fully booked for a reason. Very disappointed and would not recommend.

Hau Han is becoming hit or miss. Tonight's sesame prawn toast would have been bad enough if it was just overdone (which it was), but it was the fact that it appeared to be some other random fish paste, rather than prawn (the texture and flavour was totally different). Other than that, the other dishes just weren't the usual quality - overly greasy and just not great. Probably the last time we'll use them for a while.

It's so rare to find gluten free Chinese place, so I was really happy to find Hau Han just down the road from my accommodation! Theres a separate gluten free menu with a decent selection of about 5 or 6 mains, several sides and a couple of starters. All of the mains have a vegetarian option too, so it's great if you've got multiple dietary requirements! I'm coeliac and very sensitive to cross contamination but I felt totally fine after eating here, zero negative effects even the following day, so would definitely recommend to other coeliacs. Even the prawn crackers and chips were OK, as they have a separate fryer! The staff were young but very knowledgeable about gluten free food and were able to inform me of the kitchen practices, separate fryers etc which was amazing. Quiet in the restaurant itself but there were a couple other tables of people in there and heaps of delivery orders. The Kung Pow cauliflower was my favourite and now I want to go back and try the other dishes!

Visited here on a Sunday evening with my partner, the restaurant was completely empty and we were the only table in there, which we thought wasn’t a good sign but there were plenty of takeaways being picked up. The staff were very friendly and helpful with recommendations. I’m coeliac, meaning I have to follow a strict gluten free diet, and they were very good with dealing with that, asking about allergies when we arrive without prompting and providing a gluten free menu. The gluten free menu had five or six dishes on so relatively limited but still an okay selection. I had the sweet chilli chicken and my partner (not gluten free) had the chicken curry. Both dishes were nice and the portion size was very good and more than enough. The dishes are reasonably priced too. The restaurant lacked atmosphere due to being completely empty which seems to be a common theme in the reviews however I was impressed with how knowledgeable and attentive the staff were with gluten free and would still recommend a visit.

Food was great and came extremely fast! Will order again.

Our meal was disappointing. Some of it was nice but there was a lot of sauce and very little meat in 2 of the dishes. Perhaps try less onions and peppers and more meat .

Wasn’t the worst but also not the best

Modern und minimalistisch eingerichtetes Restaurant mit angenehmen Ambiente. Das Personal war freundlich und schnell. Direkt zu Beginn gab es Wasser und Krabbenchips aufs Haus. Das verkaufte Brewgooder Bier unterstützt einen guten Zweck - ich denke das spiegelt die generelle Philosophie des Ladens gut wieder. Die Qualität der einzelnen Zutaten war, soweit man das erkennen kann, ebenfalls gut. Sowohl die Vorspeisenplatte als auch die Hauptspeise mit Beef und Brokkoli waren ausgezeichnet und sehr lecker. Aus meiner Sicht gab es da nichts auszusetzen. Reis oder andere Beilagen müssen extra bestellt werden. Gerne wieder.

Luck pot find as we were visiting Edinburgh. Little gem. Food was good and clean. Service was good and extra attentive. Family friendly place. Went at a good time as it was empty sitting in.. but could see they were busy with deliveries.

We loved everything about this restaurant, clean, friendly, efficient service, excellent food, reasonable prices. The only downside is we don’t live closer to use it more.

Cracking food, good and speedy service

I'm giving this three stars only due to the fact the seating was really uncomfortable I can't say a bad word about the food though as it was really nice but also the staff members were cleaning around us which was awkward and they're overall attitude was bad

Place has gone seriously downhill from my last visit. Burned prawn toast. Tasteless chow mein overflowing in a small bowl. The worst part was the "optional" tip which is just put on your bill and you have to ask to get it removed which is rude. It might just have been a bad day but for a veggie chow mein, prawn toast and a drink it was £19.50. You're better off going to salt and chilli in the St James centre where the meals actually taste good and would cost you less for much better quality.

So refreshing to find a forward thinking Chinese takeaway in Edinburgh with a focus on healthy, quality ingredients (no MSG etc). Chicken curry and sweet & sour chicken were both fab. The only thing that would make this place even better would be adding nutritional info (or just calories per dish) onto the menu.

Coming from America, where Chinese/Cantonese taste has developed for decades. Their offering won’t be served in the states, and will be going to the trash. The main dish is a bit better than microwave dinner but not by much. The meat is swimming in sauce and its very bland. Everything tastes separate. It’s obvious that this is a quick mix and serve setup. They don’t take the time to let the flavors mix. It’s not really fresh more like, dump the breaded meat here, pour the sauce, heat it up and call it a Cantonese meal. It’s understandable; I’m assuming the owner is exploiting that Scottish people won’t know the difference. As long as the money keeps on flowing. But I can and I know the food is Junk. And Scottish people THIS IS NOT CHINESE/CANTONESE FOOD! The rice is undercooked as well.

Where to start. The food was just not good and not tasty at all. I mean, I dont think the crispy beef actually contained any meet, and curry sauce wasn’t good… also, we ordered two gin-tonics for not such a low price, and got it without ice or cucumber or anything, with words “sorry we are out of ice”. Just don’t f-ing sell gin tonics if you dont have ice! Staff containing a young guy and girl was pleasant, but that didn’t make our stay any better.

Amazing every time! I am coeliac and have been for over 20 years, Hau Han was my first Chinese takeaway and it did not disappoint! It was everything I thought it would be and more, and I have had it many times since from them☺️ Quick and easy to order and always arrives hot and tasty with great sized portions. Thank you!!
