Hatch in St Albans

We were visiting SA for the day and wanted to grab some lunch. Thought we'd try this spot as it was well regarded, and they were not wrong. Although there was a minor issue with the order this was more than rectified for. Food great quality, staff friendly and accommodating. We'd go back.

Lovely vegan brunch. Really friendly staff, no complaints. We don’t live locally but more than happy to go back if we visit St Albans again.

Finally tried out Hatch for brunch, and now I get why everyone loves it! The vibe here is super relaxed, and even though it was pretty busy, the staff were still really friendly and on the ball. My partner and I went for the full English, and she couldn’t stop talking about how good the sausages were! We also tried their flat white, and it was one of the best coffees we’ve had in a while—smooth and strong, just how I like it. Can’t wait to come back and work my way through the rest of the menu. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area

We popped in for lunch and weren't disappointed. A good range of option available. Coffee was great , in fact the best I tasted during my visit to St Albans. Service was quick and friendly , including tap water without asking.

I was first seated inside directly under cold air con blast which was uncomfortable, even though it was a sunny day I wasn’t asked where I wanted to sit, I got up to leave but was then seated outside in the sun. After that service was good, a bottle of chilled water was brought to the table without asking, coffee was very good as was very large croissant, prices reasonable.

Top class. You must visit. A short review but I think it says it all. In a world besieged by chains leveraged by private equity, the service and food at Hatch stands as an examplar to all.

My partner and I frequent here - it's a solid spot for lunch and dinner. Shoutout to the buffalo chicken burger because the sauce really makes it. They do brunch options, but IMO it's best for dinner because of the wider options. They branched out to Marmalade (sister cafe) which is nearby - it is also worth a visit.

We go to Hatch too many times for our liking (and our bank accounts) as it easily serves the best food in the area. The burgers are top notch, and the constant changing of different aspects, whilst still keeping the firm favourites is what makes this restaurant so good. We decided to go for my birthday, and after a mistake in booking (completely our fault) the waiters in Hatch were amazing, getting a table for five of us and every server not only providing excellent service, but also genuinely seem like they love it there. We will be going again and again! Standout stars are the black and blue burger, fried chicken, the loaded tater tots and the cosmos!

Great place. Delicious and unusual food (try the buffalo Benedict) great vibe and really friendly and efficient staff. We shall return

First visit to The Hatch with a friend for lunch, lovely setting and atmosphere. We were lucky to be seen to very efficiently, and seated as the cafe was very busy. Menu was great, I went for scrambled eggs, with avocado and sourdough, best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted, service was great and the staff very attentive, we were looked after by Alex & Sophie who made us very welcome. I will certainly be returning and telling everyone about The Hatch.

Just been to Hatch and first visit to it's new larger location. Food was great, service was good though there was one very miserable girl working who really did not look like she wanted to be there. If we had continued to be served by her then i think we would have left but all the other staff super nice... hopefully the miserable one is ok and that was just a one off and not her normal attitude as it slightly spoiled our breakfast. (1st world problems)

our first visit ,we were warmly greeted and seated quickly ,our waitress was very good at taking our order , we ordered the scrambled egg on sourdough toast it came quickly and was very hot and tasty , will definatley be back ,thanks to all and will recommend to friends

Love the new location, very relaxed, great menu with fresh tasty food at excellent prices. The brunch bun is delicious and hash brown bites are a must. I thought the waffle was disappointing, wasn’t cooked enough, not very nice chocolate sauce. Everything else is great. Definitely book, especially at weekends as this place gets busy.

Lovely brunch , the food here is very good . It's actually cheaper than one of the newer cafes really rated not too far away. The coffee is much better than most too. Gets very busy due to this.

First time visiting. Service was friendly and fast despite the restaurant being almost full on bank holiday Monday. Very nice espresso and lovely food with great attention to detail which I appreciate. The chimichurri served with the steak frites tasted really lovely and fresh. A reasonable bill at the end to top it all off. I shall be returning next time I’m in St Albans!

Visited on a Friday , we hadn’t booked and were asked to come back in an hour which we did and eventually got a table after another 15 minute wait . Lovely friendly staff , food was very tasty and once ordered arrived quickly. Only downside for me were the toilets which were shabby and not very clean .

The choice of cakes/pastries was very disappointing. The staff were over-zealous is checking everything was OK all the time. Honestly prefer Caffe Nero!

Ok without risk of sounding like a massive saddo, I'm absolutely obsessed with Hatch. The service and food is 10/10, absolutely zero faults. After living in St.Albans all my life, I was not expecting to find a better waffle than that gaff down the road. Who knew waffles were meant to be that good? Sweetcorn fritters are now a part of my daily thoughts and those lil truffle hash browns are becoming a problem. Don't go to Hatch if you don't want to ruin every other restaurant in town for yourself. As accommodating as they have been when I have showed up with no booking I would highly recommend doing so in advance to avoid doing the walk of shame anywhere else. Just go home and cry. Simply superb. Fantastic set up. Great food, perfect location and an amazing team. Sophie looked after us for brunch and was amazing. The Buffalo Benedict was a particular highlight, but all of the food was near perfect! Can’t wait to go back again soon.

I love Hatch! You can’t go wrong with their brunch or their burgers everything is always delicious 😋 we are locals and love visiting Hatch, the only downside is that is hard sometimes to book a table as they are so busy! Rachel our waitress was very friendly and funny :)

Wanted to visit for some time and finally managed to get there today, Friday afternoon. Didn't have a reservation, but was greeted at the door and taken to a table straight away. I understand, however, it is essential to book for the weekend. Good choice on the menu if looking for brunch/lunch. I ordered the truffle benedict, and I must say, it was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back as there is much more to choose from that I really would like to try. Staff attentive and friendly. 💯 recommend!

What a find! This little doggie friendly bruncherie has mysteriously escaped our attention until now… Nice friendly staff. We like smiles! Our Dirty Reuben and Buffalo Benedict (we ordered a side of fries we struggled to eat as portion sizes were so generous!) were absolutely delicious. Mouth watering again now as I type! Our doggie enjoyed her water, promptly served. And she might have enjoyed a little salt beef we smuggled her under the table. A bonus is the ability to book in advance. Reasonable prices too.
