A bit chilly sitting outside, but otherwise a fantastic meal. Fish and chips were great, a good-sized piece of fish cooked masterfully, good, hot, tasty chips, peas were well done, and tartare sauce was lovely, obviously made in the kitchen. The lobster roll was also very good. Highly recommended.

Great place for oysters and lobsters. Oysters were fresh, served with lemon, Tabasco sauce and onions on the side. I also got half of lobster and it was delicious, however, rather small. We came back to that place for oysters and will be definitely stopping by it again once in the area

This place has the potential to be wonderful but is mediocre at best and a shameful waste of money at worst. There are no sides worth having. No freshly boiled new potatoes, no interesting salad (eg. Greek salad, salad niçoise etc). Instead, there are 'crayfish-loaded-fries', which are smothered in cheese - horrible. This is a dumbed down, fast food version of a seafood restaurant. Ok if that's what you want, but don't get your hopes up.

Suffice to say, a bit of a tourist trap this one. The lobster had barely any meat although generally that's the problem with lobster, scallops pretty ordinary i thought. Thought the crayfish fries combo was ok though. They need to pad out the meals a little I feel, some veg on the side shouldn't be a hardship really, youll leave here still feeling really hungry. Basic drinks menu also, Premium lager turned up as a San Miguel can lol Think the restaurant needs to up its game a bit rather than relying on a Giles Coren framed review hanging by the entrance.

Worst and the most expensive fish and chips I've ever had. It was overpriced, tasteless and drenched in oil. When we've asked for children's drinks we've got served with two fizzy cans of apple juice and the "premium lager" is just a can of beer. 3 portions of fish and chips with two apple juices and two cans of beer 70£. Terrible. Poor quality and overpriced. Not recommending it at all.

Perfect seafood in a street food style. Table for two outside. Great menu balancing choice and simplicity. We had Scallops, half lobster, green beans and chips. Food quality was amazing. Atmosphere lovely by the harbour side on a busy sunny Sunday afternoon. We didn’t book so were lucky to catch a seat when we did. Service matched the street food vibe - pretty straightforward no airs and graces. There’s no loos here but that’s no problem, there’s public toilets just round the corner. Place is attached to a fishmonger which is brilliantly stocked - we bought some great looking mackerel to take home and enjoy.

Popped in here for some oysters. Really nice, tasty and fresh, oysters. The oysters were served on ice, and all nicely shucked and presented. I also had a beer to wash them down. I sat outside, which was a little cramped as it was quite busy, but I was only there for 20 minutes so it wasn’t a problem. Total cost was £21, which covered 6 oysters and a beer. It was pricey, but I think it was worth it, and a lovely harbour side view in the sunshine.

Perfect place on a sunny (or rainy because of the covers) Saturday afternoon. My aunt and I popped in for fish and chips, we loved the laid back atmosphere & attentive staff. The fish was excellent and plentiful, chips were tasty and I loved the sauces. Whilst there we scanned everyone else’s orders…and decided we need to go back for the loaded fries they look so good. Great vibe, worth the money and looking forward to my next visit. Only suggestion, would be good to see a picture of different dishes maybe..just so I could have ordered more haha.

Firstly I must make it clear this review is about the outside area below the main restaurant. No menu on the street you have to walk in and look at one on the tables. You then are asked have, you eaten here before, if not, like us you are told “ there are no toilets here you have to use the public one nearby and all drinks are served in metal enamel cups” I think it’s some sort of pop up restaurant and maybe that’s a planning regulation? If not then that’s the most pretentious thing I’ve come across! We both had fish & chips which were delicious but severed on paper on a tin plate. Just about ok with the tin plate but the paper was just annoying as when you eat, slowly the paper disintegrates and mixes with your food. The Spanish lady here severed us was very nice

Hmmmm my wife and I went to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary and were expectant of a great meal. My wife ordered the loaded crayfish and I ordered the lobster. We were told to pay there and then? For flips sake I’m nearly 60! I’m not going to “do a runner” Anyway the food arrived my lobster had zero flavour and the tail was rubbery as it had been over cooked. I was bitterly disappointed. My wife had a glass of wine, I say glass it came in an enamel mug? They only had one wine, my wife said a vile wine. I ordered coke, then a couple of cans! Again I had to pay before I would be served? If you want an over priced, badly cooked meal that you have to pay for like at McDonalds but even McD’s care about you. Seriously give this place a miss

Came here for lunch, I got the lobster roll (doesn’t come with sides) and my husband got the fish and chips. We shared the scallops starter. Food was tasty and the view was amazing especially as it was a beautiful day. There was outdoor seating which was fine, and I liked that the tables had a spare blanket on the seat incase it got chilly. I marked as 4 stars for service as one of the dishes was not available on the limited venue, and I found it strange to be asked to pay when placing our order by the server, especially when it’s an a la carte restaurant. I paid £55 for 2, for a food order only. My only wish is for the menu to be a bit wider as I would’ve like abit more variety.

Situated just by Weymouth Harbour, the small, cozy gazebo/terrace provided a delightful dining experience. The seafood was notably fresh, and the oysters, which stood out as the highlight of the meal, were exceptional. The fish and chips were well-prepared, boasting a perfectly crunchy exterior and tender interior. However, the lobster, although flavorful, was slightly overcooked. The scallops, unfortunately, were disappointingly tiny and lacked depth of flavor. Although these minor shortcomings, the overall meal was enjoyable, enhanced by the picturesque view and welcoming atmosphere.

Were we disappointed ?YES, my wife had the scallops, which were very under cooked and cold, we sent it back, the replacement was over cooked. I had the Lobster, it was very small and lots of pepper on it, why ? and no picker supply to eat it with. This is a pale imitation of a basic French cafe. We were so disappointment. We were told and on the website it stated it was not possible to reserve a table, but 3 tables had reserve sign on them when we left !. 18:43 Disappointed! My Father and I visited at lunchtime Easter Monday. I asked for sparkling water as I was driving but surprisingly it was not on the menu so had to settle for tap water. We both ordered Crab sandwiches which arrived with very dry stale bread and the flavour of the crab was overpowered by strong lemon. We were not given a serviette so we had to use our own tissues and were not even asked how our meal was!! I’m only referring to the service I had from two of their staff at the Seafest recently. I brought a large lobster, and glass of sparkling and I was kept in cue more than anyone else around me and then hand in a small lobster. And when I tried to say something the guy at the grill snapped at me saying is a large one. I wish I stayed and complained then. They kept me in cue long enough to be able to see it was even smaller than the medium one they were selling. I was ticket 136 and only when they got to 145 and up they served me. Plus I could hear the woman who was handing the food that she said a this is a small one when she got it. Then she look through the tickets and chose mine. Appalling treatment.

It was a hot day and I wanted a cold beer and maybe a seafood treat. I liked the look of the big fish tanks here and the bloke standing outside shucking oysters. As usual the oysters were quite expensive (£3 for 1, £8 for 3, £15 for 6) so I got three and a San Miguel. The Poole Bay oysters were very fresh and plump although one was quite badly shucked and had a lot of bits of shell floating around. I looked around at what my fellow diners had and was glad I had stuck to just oysters. The scallops in salsa verde looked miniscule and awash in sauce, and the half lobster looked was more the size of a king prawn. Lots of reviews have mentioned bad staff. I couldn't see any staff so I went into the fish shop where a man was filleting fish with his back to me. I asked if it was table service or whatever and he didn't reply or turn around. Maybe he was hard of hearing but I think not. The staff member I eventually found was overworked and slightly harassed looking but very kind and polite (Canadian? American?) Other downsides are there are no toilets and drinks come in enamel beakers. If you don't mind that, just sit in the sun with a beer and some oysters, look at the view of the boats, the water and the picturesque old harbour, and leave it at that!

We were looking forward to our lunch as we saw that Hatch was part of Catch At The Old Fish Market. Though unfortunately there were a few things that didn't make the experience quite as expected. Firstly the waitress attempted to wipe our table on arrival by scraping the menu across the dirty table, then lay that dirty menu on the table for us to use. She later returned to take our order with orange crusty residue around her mouth. (I think lobster leaves an orange stain...). We ordered cider off the menu which was described as 'premium cider' and we were disappointed to be served cans of Thatcher's. As Hatch is an independent local business we had hope to see this local business supporting local independent cider. So overall not quite the experience we had hoped for. The scallops were delicious. The lobster was okay but they ran out of lobster picks.... Quite over priced for the portion sizes.

When I came to review this place, I thought I would just be adding yet another outstanding review....so imagine my surprise to see so many negative reviews? My partner and I came here after a long day of coastal walking and it is hands down one of the nicest meals we have had in ages. Yes there are quirks to the licence which means no glassware - but instead of nasty plastic cups, you are given quirky enammel mugs...so what? Yes they ask for pre-payment but that comes off the back of several people doing runners and which business doesnt want to avoid that?.....so what? The food, the service and the location were all exceptional....we stayed much longer than our intended couple of Oysters and i am so pleased we did. Went last year and enjoyed it. Went again today.. what a let down. The few tables were as ever full. Lunchtime, sunny day, management decided that one unhappy overworked Californian was enough to tend the tables. There was a table that just became available and she showed people to it, they were there a while and yes yes she was busy? They asked for the table to be cleared, she looked at them, rolled her eyes and gave them the “talk to the hand “ sign. Shocked is an understatement. The lobster was undercooked, squid had more garnish than squid, monkfish was minuscule. The grilled peppers were so old the inside was black. They were out of scallops at 13:00 !! How many did they start with ? The absolute strange thing was when I went into the fishery which is adjacent and owned by the same people and wanted a swordfish steak to be cooked by the one chef on duty I was told that is not “ALLOWED” . I then asked for precooked prawns to eat as I was still hungry, that too was not “ALLOWED “. Furthermore, they had lots of scallops in the fridge Shame on you. Two of us, £100+ and left hungry. Had ONE tissue each and we had lobsters and oysters. Though I was not beating a path to you, you lost a client today. Be aware if you visit after 8pm there will be nowhere to use the bathroom if you need a comfort break. The public toilets close at 8pm and this premises has none of their own. We stopped by for some oysters after 8. Unfortunately a smartly dressed waiter didn’t inform us of the lack of bathrooms until after we’d sat down and ordered. We asked if it were possible to use the bathroom at The Catch as the public ones were closed. They bluntly told us we knew there were no toilets when we sat down (they didn’t) and that The Catch is a separate business (same ownership, but fine). Take away the unpleasant waiter experience, and some more info on the bathroom situation then it’s a nice spot for a bite to eat. The oysters are fresh and delicious so we’ll continue to enjoy them as food on the go / takeaway. ***UPDATE*** - In response to Sean… We will be happy to try again at some point now we know fully the bathroom situation. However, I can assure you the situation was not mentioned to us by anyone before we sat down, let alone 3 staff members (we were attended to by 2 staff for a start & it would be strange if that many people talked to us about toilets). Perhaps this duty needs to be reminded to staff members. We had been to Quayfest for a couple of hours (quite a while?) and we collect the recyclable cups for guests to use at home. The reason my partner asked to use the bathroom after I was told to use the public ones (not denied), is because it was urgent and I asked her to see if they’d let her use the one in The Catch. We knew the public ones were closed at the point of asking. I think this is where the wires were crossed.

In response to the owner's comments below: 1) We were not told of the lack of toilets before we ordered - perhaps your staff could do with some extra training on this subject. 2) We dined in and did not order takeaway food. 3) There were no visible signs (during our visit anyway) anywhere saying you don't have any toilets. 4) We've been fortunate enough to eat a lot of amazing seafood over the years and this particular meal just felt very poor value for money. 5) These are only our personal opinions, but we felt strongly enough to leave what is an honest review.

Amazing food, we had the tacos, oysters and lobster. Loved all of it. The setting was great, with nice views of the water. Great service.

My husband and I were lucky enough to enjoy dinner at Hatch twice: once in April and again in September. We were there on the recommendation of our hosts at the St. John's Guesthouse at the other end of town. (We LOVE the Guesthouse and...

Spent £75 for lunch and was served a frozen supermarket lobster it definitely wasn’t fresh and it was so disappointing. You have to pay at the time of ordering and they weren’t interested in our complaint as they had our money. Scallops and Oysters were...

Poor meal very disappointing. The Lobster I’m afraid to say tasted like it had come frozen from the supermarket it definitely wasn’t fresh and it’s claws had been removed. Oysters and Scallops were nice and fresh though and the service was good. But still felt cheated as they insist on payment at the time of ordering. We won’t ever go again and I’d recommend others avoid. There are much better places to eat in Weymouth

The food was really fantastic, cooked to perfection. We ordered a good selection of the menu and it was amazing. Only slightly disappointing thing was the lobster portion, you don't get the claws

Very expensive for what you get, we only got a crab roll and half a lobster both were served with some dry salad leaves, and 2 beers and paid 45 quid. Barely any food and crab roll was cold and full on mayo. Only had outside seating, rather uncomfortable and there's no toilets either.

Fresh produce, cooked well, tasted amazing! Had 4 Half lobsters, the calamari and fries. Bearing in mind we spent a similar amount of money on the typical churned out pub grub in another establishment the night before, I would far rather have the lovely fresh...

This place has a great menu and a friend and I went with our kids. As it’s a street eat venue rather than restaurant, payment is taken when you order, food is served in takeaway boxes with disposable cutlery and there’s no toilet available (but there are public toilets about 45 seconds away and they were in a decent condition when we went). Service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the crab roll, calamari and Korean tacos. For the kids we got kids fish and chips (they only do kids fish and chips) and ciabatta (one child decided he didn’t want fish 🤷🏻♀️). Our favourite was the tacos. It was all great but… there’s a lot of dill involved. It’s on the tartar sauce, in with the crab roll, on the garlic ciabatta. I’m not a huge fan of dill so that spoiled it slightly. But otherwise the food was fresh and reasonably priced. We all had a lovely time!

Truly excellent fish and chips, some of the best I've ever had. Unfortunately restaurant was closed due to staff shortages, and there was a long queue for takeaways. But worth the wait.
