Absolutely love this place. The team were so friendly and nice, serving us (and others) moments before closing. The food was delicious - loved the mushrooms and the vegan calamari, chips were very fresh. Was all so good with curry sauce ! This is my new favourite !

This place was a GEM of a find! I really appreciated the thought and innovation that goes into their vegan options. In addition to the usual veggie sausage option they have 'vish and chips' using battered banana blossom; vegan 'calamari' rings made from King Oyster mushroom stalks; 'frickles' - pickle fritters; garlic and thyme battered mushrooms; and others. While we were waiting for our 'vish and chips' we had a bag of battered salted samphire which was just amazing. The service was really bright and friendly, and the costs reasonable. It was lovely to be sat by Chesil Beach in the late summer sunshine, and enjoying a real 'fish and chips' experience without hurting any creature in the process. We will be returning, and telling all our vegan friends about this place.

Incredible vegan options, a must visit

Been a few times when I was in portland and the food was edible. But this time was very disappointing. The chips were anemic and the fish was thinner than cardboard. The batter was so thick it had it's own postcode. Wont be going back again unfortunately.

Amazing vegan friendly chippie. They have vegan fish, sausage, nuggets, pea fritter, calamari, cheesy chips and more! I couldn't recommend more, have been going when visiting home and even better to takeaway to have on the beach. Always fresh ingredients, lovely service and you can click and collect online or walk in. Well worth a trip.

Ordered large cod, if that was large I'd hate to see the regular and I don't know what the batter was but it wasn't like other fish and chip shops, Ordered large chips, again I'd hate to see the regular size, £4 for a steak pie that was full of grizzle and had been reheated a few times, Needless to say we won't be going back

Absolutely delicious food. Crispy and not greasy, the fish, mushrooms and samphire were great. Generous portion of chips and delicious curry sauce. Well worth a visit!

I'm sorry but I can honestly say that was the worst meal we have ever had, large chips was small the haddock was small with chewy batter, samphire was in crumbs from what looked like bottom of the fryer, Calamari I could of swore it was tough stringy chewy chicken it didn't taste like calamari & didn't look like it, it looked brown & stringy peas well not much you could do with them to get wrong. Terrible ...I'm sad because you was my holiday regular this was my first time online order.👎🏼

Sadly the great menu options were disappointing to eat. Chips in a bag had gone soggy while the cod bites were too chewy to enjoy - they tasted re-cooked. Cod was nice enough. Not sure on the battery recipe but it was heavier than I prefer. Clearly popular locally, but I'll pass next time

What can I say say part form fantastic. If you don’t want to be disappointed it’s best to boo by phone or on line as they can get extremely busy and run out of what you would like. On the other had you could join the que and take your chances. Quality of the food is top notch and everything is cooked to order and to perfection. You need to try the frickle (deep fried gherkins) absolutely gorgeous. Curry sauce is one of the best I’ve had. We wanted cod but had to have haddock and we were not disappointed. You can have a beer or cider while you wait which is a bonus. And by the way our dog think your sausages are the best and we shall definitely be paying a visit to your establishment again.

Lovely chippy. With being from the north, traditional fish n chips are quite a thing but this chippy was a lovely find whilst on holiday. The staff were really friendly and despite shutting soon, they still were happy to cook fresh. The fish particularly was cooked beautifully but also there were things I have very rarely seen on the menu such as Fickles which were absolutely super. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

We ordered a large cod, large chips and a jumbo sausage. The large cod was strangely thin - as if the had just used half of the fish! The batter was also chewy. The chips were lovely, but expensive for the small portion and the sausage was great too. There was maybe a 10 minute wait

Large portions. Impressive vegan offerings. The oyster mushroom calamari and the tempura samphire are delish, good chips too. We’re not local but it’s definitely worth the drive down.

Excellent chippie, went in last week and ordered for myself and my wife, cod, chips twice pickles, curry sauce and the best and freshest frickles. Got to say everything was super tasty, large portions and the frickles omg. Staff was lovely friendly and chatty had a slight wait as everything was being cooked fresh but was definitely worth the few minutes wait and did I mention the frickles so so so good. Would definitely recommend and go again when in the area.

Disappointed. A friend fecommended The Chesil Chippie, so my wife and I decided to give their fish and chips a try. Made the purchase, and 5 minutes later began to eat. Fish batter was too soft. Chips were lukewarm. Not an enjoyable meal.

We had 2 Haddock, the fish it's self was OK, but batter was soggy. (It felt like it had microwaved). The regular portion of chips was on the small size for the price.

Batter on the fish was thick and soggy the cod it's self was dry chips not bad just looked on the small size in between a French fry and a chip

No stars if I could. Large cod, regular chips and curry sauce... curry sauce tasted like curry powder had been added to gravy granules. Chips and batter on cod was soggy and the cod and chips all tasted of stale cooking oil, it all tasted that bad that none of it was edible and was thrown away.. Without any doubt whatsoever, THE WORST FISH AND CHIP SHOP ON PORTLAND. Complete RIP off

We had high hopes given the reviews, but we were disappointed with the fish, which was greasy and had too much batter, and the chips and veggie calamari seemed to have been sitting for a bit.

Portions a bit too big served a little grumpy but incredible selection of vegan options. Tempura samphire was a little chewy but very much enjoyed my cod bites. But I would leave the selection of sauces and stick with Heinz. All in all very good.

Some of the best fish & chips we've had for quite a while. Beautiful batter on the cod and loads of very tasty chips. Each portion individually boxed with a wedge of lemon. Don't be put off by the look as you drive past. Frendly and efficient staff. clean and modern look inside. Had a good range of food, well cooked and nice portion sizes. Will definitely be returning.

There were 13 of us, from fish lovers to vegans, and we were all satisfied and well fed. We really appreciated the adventurous menu as well as quick and efficient service. Only tiny quibble: tempura samphire was well worth trying but I'd prefer a small helping of samphire raw or lightly steamed. Too much of its flavour is lost in the frying.

Recently visited, delicious fish and chips along with homemade condiments and some cod bites on the side. Probably one of the best fish and chips had food was hot, tasty and quick service, and luckily not stolen by seagulls either.

Such a shame took my wife n daughter to portland for fish n chips on the beach for a birthday treat. Spent over £30 for 3 of us. Regular cod was not much bigger than a fishfinger,batter soft although had to wait for them. Paid for curry sauce and mushy peas but we're sadly lacking in bag when opened on beach. Poor effort. Will try somewhere else next time

I have had delicious food from here several times in the past. Sadly my most recent visit (and time before that) have both been disappointing. This visit, the chips were barely cooked with us finding several crunchy in the middle chips and all verrrryyy soft and almost wet. The mushy peas which I used to love, were very runny and didn’t taste anywhere near as good as they used to. The other components were all ok but nothing special. Not sure if I will visit again. It’s a shame as they have a great menu, but the basic items aren’t good enough sadly.

Extremely expensive. £4.70 for a large chips that is really a regular size and they were nothing more than average. Curry sauce watery and bland. Very disappointed. Would not go again. I feel I would save money by driving into Weymouth for much better quality.

I’m glad we found this place. Bright and clean, a warm welcome. The range of food in offer was excellent and there were things on there I’d never seen before like samphire, and banana leaf. We couldn’t resist the battered mince pie (vegan) the batter was light and crispy, not greasy at all. It was delicious! I had sausage and chips and the chips were wonderful. Sausages were also great. Highly recommended!

I googled vegan chippie and it lead me here. I had banana blossom ‘fish’ chips and mushy peas it was really delicious, a great option for anyone who’s a veggie or vegan but craving fish n chips

Sadly I am only writing a review to tell people that although they offer gluten free batter it is fried with a gluten-containing battered products. I read on Trip Adviser they have gf products so I called in because it was not clear online what was available. I was advised that yes, they offer gf batter but it is a shared fryer… sigh.

We were really looking forward to some great seaside fish and chips after a long day out at the beaches. Perhaps reviews set our expectations too high but the two cod, sausage and chips were all distinctly average and sadly flavourless. Looked like a good range of vegan choices, if that floats your boat. Still desperate, the following day we tried another chippy up the road, which really hit the spot.

From the queues outside, we'd expected this to be a great dinner. However, everything just tasted a bit bland. It was ok, the fish seemed fresh & the batter was crisp, but it was pretty flavourless. And the chips were small and kind of chewy. Service was lovely however. It just wasn't our favourite fish & chips.

My partner and I are in Dorset for our honeymoon at the moment and wanted to have some proper ‘fish and chips’ by the sea. We have been vegan for 6 years and have had only one other vegan fish and chips by the seaside, which was last year. After googling places, this shop came up and we were both pleasantly surprised at the amount of options available. I had the calamari and my partner had the banana blossom fish. We also had mushy peas and curry sauce. Portion sizes were more than enough and the food itself was really lovely. It definitely filled our craving for fish and chips. We ordered click and collect which was easy and the customer service was good - we were even recommended a spot to eat! We will be back. Thank you!

I swore to the almighty that I would never eat fried cod again (being Portuguese cod is only meant to be fried when used for breakfast during wine collection season). This place changed my mind. Wow! The vegan menu is incredible and the flavours exceeded our expectations - we tried a selection of vegan options including vegan fish, pea bomb, chips, vegan tartare, a pineapple fritter, and EVERYTHING was delicious. We also had the Dark Chocolate & Salted Caramel Cake which was something you would expect to eat in a fancy restaurant… SO GOOD! We wish it was located closer to our home… worth another trip to Dorset 😊

We have just been and bought our dinner from here this evening(which we have had a few times,being locals on the island) I can honestly say this was one of the worse. We had 2 battered quorn sausages with chips and a curry sauce between us. Was not expecting, was not even dreaming, of finding a full vegan chippie in the UK. What a remarkable thing to stumble across one in Portland! The vegan fish is the highlight of the menu, made (90% sure) from deep fried banana blossom, its the real deal and tastes great. The chips are solid, as is the crispy "squid". I'd suggest that the vegan battered sausage maybe still needs a bit of perfecting but that's a very minor complaint from a man who at one point thought he'd given up the taste of battered anything! If this is available on a Dorset peninsula, then we are truly entering the golden age of vegan eating.

Amazing fresh fish and lovely service too! This place was the only place we could find that does not cross contaminate the sausages and chips or fish due to the oil. So great for veggies and halal food! So many options for vegans too (we didn't try this)

Ordered online and had big hopes for this place as all reviews looked great and the menu was good but when we picked it up on time infact we had to wait a moment for the fish to cook we drove half a mile down the road and parked up to eat and everything was cold, the chips was stone cold and soggy the curry sauce was like they haven’t turned the heater on the batterd squid was again cold and the batter was raw in places the pea bombs wasn’t even cooked properly the fish had a slight ammonia sense about it(old) not sure if they was rushing or had new staff who didn’t know what they was doing but it was one of the worst if not the worst chippy I’ve ever had. I will not be returning and certainly won’t recommend this place to anyone!
