Fish 'n' Fritz in Weymouth and Portland

Truly excellent fish and chips, some of the best I've ever had. Unfortunately restaurant was closed due to staff shortages, and there was a long queue for takeaways. But worth the wait.

Hands down best fish and chips we’ve had so far in the UK! So delicious and very generous portion sizes. We ordered the small and it was bigger than most places large! The curry sauce is to die for 😂 the place is very relaxed with a great atmosphere, and the service was great! Highly recommend having fish and chips here if you’re in Weymouth!

Best Fish & chip dinner I've had. Visited here last time in Dorset & made a bee line to come back. Well worth it, enjoyed ad much as before, so much so we went back the 2nd we of our stay. Consistently in quality, fish excellent as are the chips & best tasting mushy peas I've had, all washed down with a nice tasting pot of tea. Service was good, & allowed our dog in, thankful for that or would not have dined here & experienced a true delight. Will be on my list of places to eat next time in Dorset.

Could not fault the place, fish was crispy and the chips cooked perfectly, totally gorgeous. The staff brilliant too!! Will be back.

Bang average - except for the prices which are way over the top. £9 for 7 small pieces of scampi. Thick end of £13 with chips - to eat outside - in a box. Suppose if people are daft enough to pay it then can't blame them. Must depend of tourists. Either that or the locals in Weymouth are loaded.

Luke warm, soggy. I know we had ours at 3.30 on a dull Thursday afternoon in late September, but I would expect some effort to present edible chips from a takeaway that has this foodstuff as their key deliverable. Threw them in the bin after picking through the carcasses.

Went in here at 7.45pm this evening as soon as we walked in , man behind counter said were not cooking anything else , even thou still 15mins to go wouldn't cook a fish which doesn't take that long to cook , so had chips and sausage , curry sauce , best thing was curry sauce , chips were freezing and tasted horrible 🤮 will not be returning , will stick to Marlboro , better customer service and better food by far

Fantastic place for gluten free fish and chips probably one of best there is. Very reasonably priced, great, friendly and knowledgeable staff, couldn’t want for more. Definitely one to seek out if you need gluten free or just want really good fish and chips.

Best fish and chips in town by far. Would definitely be our first choice on our next visit to Weymouth. Love it!

After a huge build up from recommendations we visited. Through no fault of their own, they were very short staffed. Waited a hour for 3 dinners and I feel it didn't live up to its reputation!

Opening hours says open from 12 - 8pm Door was locked, another sign said closed but all lights were on, someone stood behind the counter and there was food in the hot cabinets, person behind counter just stood looking at me. Won't bother trying again

Food was amazing! Working in Yeovil and thought I would drive to the Sea for my tea. Fish was lovely, chips, curry sauce, mushy peas were fab. The 2 younger lads were great....Shame about the attitude of the Guy cooking the fish etc...don't know if your the owner or not but I experienced a bit of an attitude problem...not with me but with your other customers. If I was a local person, I'm sorry but I would rather eat somewhere else. 3 🌟. Should of been 5 🌟.

One of the best plates of fish n chips I think I've ever had! HUGE portions and excellent quality fish with gluten free batter available on almost everything. Ample amounts of side dishes and sauces and all served in a really nice, clean environment by great staff with a chat and a smile!

Gluten and dairy free battered fish! What a treat for those with allergies and intolerances. Fish by the seaside tastes so much better and this didn’t disappoint! Large portions, knowledgeable staff and tasty food!

Found this lovely chip shop in the back streets of Weymouth and WOW a little gem. Me and my wife had lunch at this lovely place both girls on duty were 1st class and very friendly. It was 3oc on bank holiday Monday we orderd large cod and chips and plaice and chips with drinks it was the best fish and chips we ever had The fish was nice and crispy and the plates were loaded Staff were brillent Will b back as fast as we can. First things first, this is the Best Fish and Chips in Weymouth, always superb. Secondly as indicated by other reviewers they have the best offering for Gluten free fish and chips. The GF fish and chips itself is delicious, and they completely understand the issues of avoiding cross contamination when cooking and serving so top marks. It is brilliant that the GF is offered every day, we have not been able to find another Fish and Chip shop that is so reliable in Weymouth - others if your lucky have a GF night, or will do it when they are not busy, so keep it up. Now the bad news. We cant understand that GF is not offered after 7pm, please can you ensure its always available when you are open. This is important because (moan alert) we, like other reviewers had to wait a long time - an hour between joining the queue and waking out with our fish and chips. thankfully we were served before the 7pm deadline. There were others that needed GF behind us and fair play on the night (busy Bank Holiday Saturday) the staff did continue to take orders for GF. The staff by the way were commendable, it was hot, busy, unhappy customers staring at them through the screen but they kept their composure and remained calm. If you could crack the waiting time issue it would be perfect!

Amazing fish and chips here. Definitely deserve the awards. Customer service fantastic. We shared the large cod between two and the kids shared nuggets between two and the lovely man serving divided them into separate boxes for us making it super easy for us to wander down to the harbour and all have our own meals. Definitely will be back!

First time visiting off the back of many high praise recommendations. Disappointed with the greasiness of the chips despite being made fresh, not sure if that's them being put in a box or something else. Can't knock the service or the pricing though.

Good chips - massive queue (30min wait at least) Chips etc are good - little overpriced but it’s the seaside so expected. Queue times were a joke - with 4 people behind the counter would expect slicker service. Was waiting 30-45 minutes. Fair play everywhere had massive queues in the area mind.

3rd time we've been to Fish N Fritz. We always come here and recommend here whenever we or others visit Weymouth. Most places can be greasy and fatty, but the chips and fish here are beautiful. The large cod was absolutely huge, but perfectly cooked, flakey ans crispy! Everybody else enjoyed their food too. Waitresses were attentive and happy to help. No one looked miserable which is always an added bonus. The only downside, and this is nothing against them. Was we had a rather annoying child there when we were eating. She kept running around, coming up to tables and staring at people eat. Another table behind was mouthing words about it too! Apart from that, which, like I said, had nothing to do with them, it was PERFECT.

Great fish and chips and great for gluten free. I am coeliac and have eaten here both times I've been to Dorset in the past year! They appear to really understand cross contamination and are very re assuring.

We were recommended by a fish and chip shop owner to try Fish&Fritz. He said it was the best in Weymouth. Sadly, our experience didn't live up to expectations. We joined the queue outside at 6.25pm and finally exited with our order one hour later...

We waited 36 mins for two cans and a squash… our food is still no where to be seen… totally unacceptable customer service. There was only four tables!

Wonderful place that I really enjoyed, and the kids loved it too. The fish and chips themselves were great, however I was a little disappointed by the salmon fish cakes, so I would recommend sticking with what it’s famous for. We were really impressed with the size of the fish and chips though, very large portions, even the kids portion was probably enough for an adult and the large fish portions were huge, definitely getting value for your money there

Excellent gluten free fish and chips. We ordered the small and it was really big! The batter was delicious, not greasy at all and crispy without being too thick. The fish was very fresh and moist and just flaked apart, steaming hot. The chips were yummy too ...thick, fluffy inside and crisp outside. £12.95 which was very reasonable in these difficult times for businesses re energy costs and we ate in. Then dining area is fresh, contemporary and comfy. Our two servers were young and both very polite and friendly. Really recommend this place!

Do not eat here if you are vegetarian of allergic to sea food. Sometimes there will be someone in a group of people who is one of the above,and therefore would like to order something from the menu that is vegetarian, and therefore cooked separated/not cross contaminated with the fish cooked on site. I saw the menu with vegetarian options in the window but double checked with the staff that the items were actually cooked separate, meaning they would be suitable for vegetarians of people with sea food allergies to eat. I was then informed by the wait staff that they cook all food in the same oil. This review is more of a warning to people in a similar situation who wants a late of chips. Always double check that the restaurant is being truthful and abides by UK food standards / isn't lying to their customers on their menu. Kings Fish & Chips is a 5 minute walk from here and we're very strong in their views of cross contamination, and I had a lovely bag of salt and vinegar chips from there!

Had fabulous gluten free cod, chips and homemade mushy peas. The batter was light and crispy and the cod just flaked apart. The chips were perfectly crisp, on the outside and fluffy on the inside and the mushy peas were of a perfect consistency, just the right amount of mushy without being a soggy mess. The severs were polite and friendly. I would highly recommend Fish and Fritz to everyone.

Great service, nicest chippy we’ve ever had. Chips were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside without being soggy/greasy, with fab curry sauce too. Loved the convenient packaging & prices were super cheap vs the portions and could afford to be raised!!

After cycling 30 miles, we stopped and ordered a large cod & chips each. Both the cod & chips were cooked fresh, and the staff were really friendly, especially with advice where to eat the food where we wouldn’t get attacked by seagulls.

Despite all the recommendations, this was the biggest disappointment. We queued for an hour with high hopes but the chips tasted like they had been cooked in rancid oil. It was so bad we threw it away. Additional info in response to owners reply: We waited an hour to order, then another 15 for our food. As they were packing it the staff realised they hadn't fried the plaice so we waited an additional 10/15 mins for them to redo our order. We then walked to the beach to eat the food and it was at that point we realised the food didn't taste right. My children were tired and cold and we didn't fancy another queue or wait so ditched the food. Whilst we probably should have returned to the restaurant to complain we didn't for the reasons above.

It was overally expensive for just average at best fish and chips

40 minute wait to order and then a 15 minute wait to pick up. Without any communication with their customers. Avoid this place! You can get the same quality food at another chip shop in Weymouth.
