Harry Ramsden Abington in South Lanarkshire

We stayed at the days Inn at Abington services and whilst we were there thought we'd try out Harry Ramsdens ,not expecting it to be anything special being at the motorway services,how wrong we were ,we had jumbo ( belive me it was huge )fish and chips which was beautifully cooked and amongst the best we've every tasted ,my son had sausage and chips that was always very good indeed and generous portions ,it was extremely good value costing £25 for the 3 meals ,the staff were very pleasant and polite ,the eating area was nice and clean though we choose to eat in the outdoor eating area overlooking the countryside ,we enjoy so much we ate there once again highly recommended

We went in here not expecting much. Just hungry, decided to have 2 ultimate breakfasts. From the beginning our experience was just great. Staff were so friendly and welcoming, no problem to swap breakfast items. The breakfast was just amazing. Everything tasted great. Good quality ingredients, asked for eggs all cooked differently, nothing was an issue. Would highly recommend. This is an example of how good hospitality staff can be. Will return.

I wouldnt usually go out of my way to leave a review for a restaurant within a service station but I was seriously impressed with Harry Ramsdens breakfast. Ingredient were top quality, from the eggs and tomato to the sausage and bacon. We can be very fussy with breakfast and were just looking to “fill a hole” on the way home but we actually got an excellent breakfast. Highly recommend stopping here for breakfast if you’re passing!

Staff were friendly enough and apologetic for the delay in taking an order even though they weren't busy and informing me they only had large fish available. After giving order the wait seemed quite long until the food was served allbeit with a smile. When sitting to eat a simple fish and chips which after all is the companys signature dish, I was very disappointed. The chips were mediocre and not very hot while the fish instead of being golden was dark brown, dry and stringy, obvious to a layman that it was overcooked. This is now the second time i've been really disappointed with the offering from here and will not be trying for third time lucky.

Breakfast meagre and not well cooked. I would avoid and travel into Biggar and visit one of the hotels.

We tried to order eight meals but the lady serving did not seem to understand english. Itook us a quater of an hour to order the eight meals and we had to repeately have to confirm what we had orderd. I cannot uderstand why you would have a lady taking orders that did not seem to uderstand english. The food was averidge. Not what you would expect from a Harry Ramsdens.

I had the cooked breakfast here, it was appalling. The eggs and bacon were completely overcooked, the links were only just cooked and the beans were cold. I took it back to the counter to complain only to be told "This is how we have breakfast locally" as though this was to be an "ethnic eating experience". There were 3 of us in our party and not one of us would ever eat here again.

Just popped in for a couple of breakfast butties before continuing our journey.Nice and clean, staff very pleasant and food was nothing flash but perfectly edible. Do feel it is a it over priced but it is at a motorway services so expected that.

Cheapest half cooked sausages on the planet, hard horrid black pudding, fatty uncooked bacon, runny beans. Tasteless. Staff very pleasant. Sterile cold environment. Okay if you haven’t eaten for a month.

Stopped at the Harry Ramsden Fish and Chip ship last night about 2 minuets before it closed at 9pm ordered my fish and chips and my daughters sausage and chips . The staff member who took my order was friendly and very positive even thought they were just about to close , no rolling of the eyes or sarcastic comments .Order came and was perfectly cooked . I had to talk to the staff member again and each time she was very helpful and a pleasure I talk to . Can’t compliment them highly enough, I did tell manager as I left how happy I was with the food and service. Not one of those places that stop serving food an hour before they shut .Top marks all round and keep up the good work a few other restaurants could learn from theme

Had breakfast here as part of the deal with staying at the Days Inn. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was enjoyable and filling, the only downside was the coffee was not too good.

Reviewing an individual Fish & Chip shop (franchise), located within a Motorway Services is perhaps a little overkill for the bon viveur's of Tripadvisor however, on the basis that the simple but hearty breakfast enjoyed that bright, but oh so chilly morning was a near beacon of civilised culinary craft, this in a desert of extremely poor alternatives, then why the devil not... Having been deposited by my company at the Day's Inn, Abington, it was immediately clear that my gastronomic choices would be very limited indeed. If I move directly onto breakfast as I am unable to vouch for the quality of Mr. Ramsden's regular evening fayre, then pray, what is there to say about a couple of eggs & bacon, not of course forgetting the duo of toast? Well, all was happily prepared with a smile by the lovely ladies who manned the hob and pass, and all was cooked as it should have been so in essence, I suppose what I'm really saying here is that for me, simply having the facility of a nice sit down brekkie was certainly welcomed and appreciated. There is nothing inherently wrong with a 'breakfast bap' or floppy croissant but honestly folk's, how much nicer to be able to greet the day with a proper hot, full English? Price wise, as expected with Service fayre, you know you're going to be paying a premium but, that rather goes with the territory I'm afraid. My only real surprise was that whilst there, the expansive seating area was literally deserted. See pics. Ah well, it most certainly was, what it was, and there's nowt wrong with that! Stayed over night at the Days Inn and had breakfast here. Lovely staff, very friendly, accommodated all our requests and cooked everything fresh in front of us. Lovely breakfast, would not hesitate to return for breakfast here.

We stopped off here on our way south and were pleased with what we found. Staff were very friendly and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. Food was cooked to order and so tasted nice and fresh. For a service station the price was reasonable too.

The food and service received was extremely good. The lady serving was very cheerful and explained our options of upgrades etc very well and double checked our order to make sure all was correct. The food itself was fresh, hot and plentiful. Would highly recommend to others.

Friendly staff, had the halloumi burger for my tea while I was staying at the services next door. Quick service, and food tasty as ever. I just wish it was open later than 8pm as I would use it more often.

All food freshly prepared. Great service and value for money. We were served by Frances who was very friendly, chatty and professional. Great stop off on the way to visit family.

Freshly cooked fish, very pleasant and friendly staff. A good meal. And now I'm just filling in to make 100 letters.

We just order a quick finish sh and chips on our stop going home. It’s OK. Nothing special it’s just fish and chips. It’s not oily so it’s good enough.

Refried chips, limp fish and a long wait - and I was the only customer with 2 staff behind the cookers. Very inferior meal. The only saving grace was the crisp batter, which was sadly lacking any seasoning. This was a very disappointing meal and doesn't live up to the quality the name suggests.

We opted for the take-out option as we were travelling with our dog. It is true to say that the Harry Ramsden franchise is a long way off the original Harry Ramsden's restaurant and falls short of most English Fish & Chip shops. £9.99 for fish & chips?? How about sausage & chips ay £7.99? Bearing in mind that a large portion of chips is £1.99 you can all do the maths on that one. The female staff member was polite & courteous but for everything else I wouldn't bother....
