Harpers Kebab in St Albans

First time coming here . Had chicken sandwich which was I would say 7/10 bun seemed sickly and the chicken was small, Doner kebab ? 2/10 Due to not cut up enough , So long and very widely cut ? Shown in pictures ? Chips 2/10 seemed cold and dried up left from night before . Also salad is not too good either hardly nothing at all ?

£36 for what was supposed to be x 2 haddock and chips…in reality, what turned up was a combination of burnt so called fish, 16 chips! I can’t stress enough the importance of staying away from this con merchant. If you want a proper meal, with loads of taste, try ‘seaworld’ you won’t be disappointed, or need Imodium in the morning!

Do NOT order from these! £36 for 2xhaddock and chips. The fish was burnt and we had 16 chips each. Total washout.couldn’t eat it. Xmas eve and we ended up eating a bowl of cereal. They wouldn’t answer the phone when we called to complain! We will never order from them again!

Went in after finishing my last delivery. The attitude of the lady was shocking. Asked for kebab meat and chips snd then got told no. I then said well what do you have then she said “anything”. With that kind of attitude I went without.

Ordered cod and chips for my partner's 30th today. Excellent quality. Tastes fantastic! Ideal place to order takeaway during lockdown and all times. Keep up the good work! Thank-you guys.

Okay wanted fish and chips during the lockdown and they deliver Okay for the food, the chips were good and very tasty The fish was really light and well cooked and one of the best I tasted in the town From The chip critic

Just had fish and chips delivered. I must say I wasn't going to bother having read the TripAdvisor reviews, but took a chance as my favourite fish bars are closed, this was the only option. Delivery was quick (rang the bell and left food outside, it was hot, and the food was very acceptable. I would definitely use again - encountered none of the problems mentioned by other reviewers.

Food is disgusting, delivery service is very very poor and both delivery driver and people that work in restaurant are extremely rude. Also after eating their food I was extremely sick ( vomiting and diarrhoea) No one should order from here

this place has no right to be in the takeaway business, I ordered a takeaway, donor and chicken with fries, no fries no chicken. half an hour late and 3 pound above the agreed price. Always have a look before you pay. These are total and utter scammers. I love this little corner of St Albans. These charlatans are destroying St Albans, Never use them, HATE HARPERS

I generally don't write reviews, but I was deeply disappointed by this restaurant. We ordered on "just eat" and the food was uneatable. After the first bite, we did not even finish neither the lamb kebab nor the fries (the oil they used was visibly old). Even the apple pie was just a greasy, artificial and industrial roll. We will never order from here again, just a waste of money

ordered a take away from here spent 20 pounds what a waste of money chips were rank and turning black the kebab I ordered was chicken with donor the chicken was so dry couldn't swallow it the donor was dry burnt no taste in actual fact disgusting then to top it off the salad had a huge hair will never come here again

Ordered at 5.30pm i was told would be 30-45mins before delivered & it’s now 2hrs on & still no food!! I will not be ordering from here again which is a shame as the food previously was ok. I like to support local small businesses but experiences like this make me think otherwise

I feel slightly sad leaving this review but hope it will motivate the staff of Harpers to buck up their ideas. We have used them every month or two for around two years. The service and food has always been excellent – as mentioned in my previous review. However, two of the last three orders have disappointed. One was lukewarm and fish ‘n’ chips do not take reheating well. The other order included a kebab which was disappointing in quality. The orders have always been for two people and have always been delivered free. The other day we had guests and wanted to order for four. When it came to delivery it was “that will be an extra three, no four pounds”! I decided not to complete the order as they are dearer than some but it has been balanced out by the quality until the two more recent issues. We will probably try ordering again in the future but if there are issues they have lost a customer!

I ordered a cheese and bacon burger for delivery. Took an hour and a half to turn up. Then when we started to eat we realised there was no burger just bacon and cheese in a bun! When i rang to resolve the situation they said it was all my fault for not specifing that i wanted a burger as well as the bacon. The person i was speaking to was very rude and was not willing to do anything to resolve the issue. They tried to charge me for a burger in order for me to have a 'cheese and bacon burger'! Absolutely disgraceful will never be ordering from here again and would never recommend to anyone!

had takeaway of fish chips, scampy and breaded mushrooms, restaurat quality, very happy customer indeed

We used to think to be guaranteed good “Fish and Chips” in Harpenden you had to go to either Redbourn or Wheathampstead. However we now have an option. One cold wet November night we got in late and tired. There was no energy to either cook or to go and collect a takeaway so I had a look on line for people that delivered and found Harpers. We knew their offering was good having eaten there some months previously when making some purchases for my girlfriend’s mother in the nearby disability shop. There is a minimum order for free delivery but it is quite easy to make your order up to this as they also offer a range of soft drinks, beers and wine. The order arrived exactly on time with the fish and the chips in separate containers. For once a large cod was a truly large skinless piece in a crisp batter, and the chips were also excellent. The drinks were also properly chilled. We have now ordered from Harpers a number and they have never disappointed. My girlfriend has also tried both the kebabs and the burgers and found them equally good. Highly recommended!
