Hare & Hounds Inn in Tameside

Drinks prices are absolutely scandalous. Ordered 2 pints of lager and a coke and I nearly collapsed when I was told “that’s £17.05”. This is a pub chain in Hyde. We’re not in city centre Manchester here fgs. We were going to have something to eat but didn’t bother after that as we felt completely ripped off. This decision was justified when I saw Shepherds Pie on the menu for £25! Are you actually taking the mick? We are local and eat out quite regularly but we’ll never visit here again.

Came here to meet friends and the staff were lovely, especially Georgia! She was so attentive and very patient with us. Thank you so much. I love that they have a small doggy menu and that the dogs can come into the restaurant area. Outside was really nice too with great views. Well definitely be visiting in the future 😁

Great experience. Brilliant staff, food and venue. Shannon really looked after us and chef Sam created some amazing food. As a veggie I’m often bored by the options, but today I had an innovative and delicious garden medley with pea hummus, coronation chick peas and sour dough shards. Great views outside too. Visited here for a late lunch, Diane behind the bar was very accommodating and straight away told us what was unavailable on the menu to avoid disappointment. The food was delicious, we had sausage and mash and the smothered chicken - many thanks to the chef, Aaron! Best place we have eaten on our holiday so far! (Also, the view is beautiful!!)

Always good food. Excellent service by Jacob and rest of team. The food was not rushed, well cooked, superb menu. We didn't feel hurried or under pressure, there was nice, relaxed gap between courses and we didn't feel over burdened by the service team. Jacob was attentive and responsive without being intrusive. Excellent visit as always.

Went to early lunch with family and friends who were setting off back to Bristol and Essex later that day - we particularly wanted to show off the pub and Werneth Low to our friends from Essex. It was a lovely day so we were able to sit outside - we had pre-booked a table inside but Thalia sorted us out. We were served by Joe, who was very efficient and friendly. All the food was great. Full marks to the staff and chef.

Dry & tasteless sharing board & staff were absent most of the time. Had to go & find someone to pay the bill. Won’t be rushing back.

I arrived early to prepare balloons and table and some of the staff helped us. Our waitress Shannon attended to our every need, even blowing up a few balloons with her colleagues. The evening was perfect, great food, service and everyone enjoyed themselves especially the dogs who had sausages brought out. Food was fab and Shannon brought out my husband's birthday cake. Honestly could not recommend this place enough. Our go to place . :-)

A really nice pub with great views over Manchester. The meal was excellent and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Would recommend it.

Second visit here and didn't disappoint. Staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. It was my daughters 12th birthday and they made her feel so special. Food was lovely, I had a very well cooked sirloin which I can highly recommend. My daughter insisted I write a review as she loved her meal there so much, she had the Cheddar Pie. Very busy at the time we were there so would recommend booking. Thanks to all at Hare and Hounds we will be back soon

Great family meal. Perfect evening. Greeted with a smile and promptly shown to our table. I ordered an aperol spritz (summer in a glass) and had the signature burger which was delicious and would definitely recommend. Thank you for a great evening. We will be coming back soon xx

We have been to this pub many times and until last night has always been satisfactory however our visit with friends who haven’t been before was awful ! The one lady who looked after us was so incredibly rude , disrespectful and argumentative on several occasions! We did tell her how we felt but our discomfort continued!! When our drinks order was wrong at the outset her words were ‘well I’m very tired and it’s been a very long day’ with no apologies so we had to ask someone else for help! The attitude continued and while the food was ok ( not fabulous) we felt uncomfortable! Myself and my friend who was with us both work in the customer service industry ( airport ) and know how the public can be sometimes so we make allowances but last night was awful and I will be contacting the pub directly!

Great food good price, the service from Jaden and Talia was first class and the view was incredible. A really comfortable environment well worth a visit.

I cannot recommend this for people with children. Terrible service, understaffed, overpriced, loud people shouting expletives and the food order never arrived. This place is for young drinkers. I came following a walk with my 14 year old daughter in the nearby countryside because she said that she would like some food and a drink, so we waited 20 minutes whilst the one person working the bar serverd just three couples ahead of us. I doubled our drinks because I didn't want to come back to the bar to wait again. The barman asked where we were sat and I explained to him that I didn't know because I was there with only my 14 year old daughter and I didn't want to leave her alone at a table whilst I waited in the queue, but explained that I would come back and let him know the table number once we found one. This is reason one why you shouldn't being kids here. Clearly not catering for single parents with a child. We bought four j20's and a couple of bowls of chips but the bar man did not put the food order through, but didn't make this clear and I thought he had (on account of the price). I went outside, found the only available table then returned to the bar to let them know the number. The barman explain that he had not taken the order and another girl said she would take the order, but then continued to make drinks for another ten minutes before doing so and taking further payment (they're good at taking payment). As expected, when I returned to the take my daughter mood was one of anxiety at being left in a loud place full of shoulting young adults, but I asked her to be patient and we drank whilst I tried to calm her nerves. An hour later, no food had arrived and so we left, having paid £23 for two soft drinks, two wasted soft drinks, no food, and a miserable time. I didn't ask for any refund or complain to the staff because there was still a huge queue at the bar and I doubt the staff would have cared much. I don't totally blame the staff, as in my experiance, unhelpful staff usually just hate their bad job. They're are probably so useless because they are over-worked given there were only a few there on a busy early evening. This isn't the pub it once was. It's now a late teen/early 20's drinking hole now with lots of shouting and obcenities. It's not the worst place I have been to but it is down there as a place I don't want to go to again. If you have children or are looking for somewhere to eat and drink after a walk, then I think you shouldn't either. BTW: The view isn't as good as some reviews indicate. There are plenty better and prettier locations in the peaks, without rubbish strewn everywhere, and where you might actually get served. I bought some kebabs on the way home and we really enjoyed them. I wish I had thought of that in the first place.

Another lunchtime visit to one of our favourite pubs. Served by Jaden and Tricia, sorry, can't remember chef's names on duty today. Got our favourite table with a view over Werneth Low towards 'Manchatten'. Lovely service and food, especially the fabulous salad to replace the chips. We then moved to the great outside area to finish our drinks.

Excellent location and service, food plentiful and wonderfully cooked. Sarah our server was great - attentive but not intrusive. Cannot recommend highly enough. Does get busy so booking advised.

Fabulous meal at the Hare & Hounds, great atmosphere outside and then they were more than happy to try and accommodate us without a booking. Ella attended to us and couldn’t have been more helpful, so lovely and made us welcome. Hats off to the chef Ste all our meals were delicious, 2 had fish & chips, one signature burger and I had the cheese & asparagus pie, it’s was lovely. Will definitely visit again ☺️

Great service but unfortunately I felt the food was poor. I had a lamb roast - the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard could not eat it, the shared veg could tell had been under a heater for a while dry and browned of edges. I feel there was a lack of roast potatoes and when asked for more they said would be a charge. Considering the roast was £20 it was a shame. Little things like our bulb above our table wasn’t working which made it quite dingy. Couldn’t fault the service. But unfortunately I won’t be rushing back there.

Came to the Hare and Hounds last Wednesday morning for an impromptu breakfast and it did not disappoint! The full breakfast was incredible and great value for money! Everything piping hot, and accommodated to swapping and changing items. Have been on weekends before but decided to come throughout the week and was a great experience, so much more relaxed than the busy weekend mornings!! Definitely recommend coming for breakfast!! Lovely friendly pub. Food was good and staff very helpful and pleasant. Highly recommend. The beer garden is a bonus for the summer.

Went for Mother’s Day for the set menu. On arrival was informed that there was no mushrooms available as a starter- no issue we ordered Korean chicken strips and the risotto. The chicken strips had about a teaspoon of sauce on, we had to ask for extra sauce to make them not dry! The main courses were just average at best. One of our party ordered the fish and chips and the fish was burnt, barely any fish inside the batter. The staff kindly exchanged this for us. Then we ordered desserts, the desserts took nearly 40 minutes to come after the mains were finished and the order got messed up and some of our party didn’t get what we ordered. For the price we were being charged the food wasn’t up to scratch at all. The kitchen needs a massive improvement. We won’t be returning. The serving staff were lovely and couldn’t be more attentive. The manager came over and listened to our concerns.

Visited the Hare & Hounds last week for a lovely meal. Food was good, prawn and avocado to start and the lamb pie for main... couldn’t fault it. But the service was something else; Bryon, our server, was there to help and advise at every opportunity. 10/10.

used to love visiting, and dining at the Hare and Hounds until yesterday. My friends and I visited last night for some dinner. The starter platter was only warm to touch, the koftas in particular. We ate what we could in terms of temperature but by no means was the food hot. The mains on the other hand were hot, and at the time we found no fault. Only on returning home, both of my friends, one of whom is pregnant,have experienced food poisoning, cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea. Unfortunately, couldn’t complain about this at the time as the onset of the sickness only happened hours later. Covid safe but what use is that if the food isn’t cooked to standard to avoid illness? Terribly disappointed and it has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Friendly and welcoming staff, felt very confident in the COVID systems they had in place, food was cooked to perfection and was very enjoyable, would like to give a shout out to Matthew who I’m told cooked my food, I would gladly recommend this restaurant and will be returning in the future.

Absolutely brilliant food. Ordered the rib eye steak. Cooked to perfection. I asked to pass on my compliments to the chef who I was told it was a very handsome fella called Matthew. He deserves a pay rise if you ask me.

Well what can I say. The ribeye special was absolutely incredible !!! I asked which chef cooked it and was told it was Matthew. Well Matthew you surpassed yourself today my friend. Best steak I have had in years. I’ll be back with all my family soon

Always been one of our favourite pubs for food and we were glad to come back, friendly atmosphere and the service was excellent, we were greeted by Lawrence who made us aware of the changes and measures in place and put us at ease, great choice of food and drinks, food arrived quickly and was hot, will definitely be back soon!!

Couldn’t get a table during the 50% off scheme when we first found out about the pub after passing by and called in, so we visited last Tuesday and the food was great, I had the mixed grill, ordered from the app which worked well

Good Sunday Lunch. Amazing views here. Clear day when we visited and we could see to Manchester and beyond. Had roast pork and my wife had a pie. Both were lovely. Looked after by Emilia. Lovely lady.

Stopped for lunch and despite there being a separate vegan and vegetarian menu (I'm vegan), I was informed (when about to order coffee) that they don't do any plant based milks. This did disappoint and surprise me. To go to the trouble to have a vegan menu but not have plant based milks seemed odd.I also ordered soup from the vegan menu yet it came with a block of dairy butter on the bread.The mushroom pie (and soup) I had was very nice and the service was friendly. I'm not a complainer but left feeling like their attempt to cater for vegans was a bit of a token effort.

Went for my birthday with the regulation "rule of 6". Food was delicious, and staff really good, great place and stunning views. Shout out to Max R and Adela for bringing service with a smile and keeping us fed watered and entertained.

Came for food on a sunny Monday evening, greeted by Rob who explained about the Covid rules and asked if we were from one household, it made us both feel very safe and secure knowing that the restaurant is following the local lockdown rules.We ordered Fish and Chips and a sirloin steak... the food was delicious and the view just topped it off!

Came in on Tuesday for lunch with my wife and baby, was greeted by Rob and was talked through all of the Covid precautions, obviously it's a tough job as we saw him have to apologise to a group who wasn't from one household as they can't be served. The food was amazing, and i can't wait to try the specials!

Went for lunch with my friend and ordered the steak sandwich. It was gorgeous, perfectly cooked, presentation was great. The host was lovely to serve us, Oliver. Compliments to the chef, who the waitress informed us name was Matthew. Will definitely be returning in the future. The COVID precautions were very well executed. This restaurant has views over the city of Manchester and on a clear day Manchester airport. A perfect place - but my food tasted as if cooked in rancid fat.

We have just had the loveliest meal at The Hare and Hounds, we had two fillet steaks cooked to perfection! We were served by one of the managers, I think his name was Rob. On a sunny day me and my partner decided to relax and gaze the views over Werneth low because we’d thought it would be the last day of northern summer shine . I suggested the hare and hounds as it was a peak view and we wanted a relaxing drink and good food over the views after work . Upon arrival , we sat down to a grubby table and absent staff for about five minutes. The cocktail menu is just a jazzed up gin and mixer plus a two pound . Being the top northern lass I am I thought, order some food have a drink and enjoy the views on this lovely evening. On the “patio” I saw three groups asked to leave quite rudely by Rules of covid apparently , quite clearly they weren’t bothered about the wiping down of tables or sanitisation, but asked these people to leave anyway ... finally my partner went in and ordered and we were served ... for the soup of the day which was served lukewarm soup which I could of made at home , and we both felt like asking for knives and forks ( which weren’t originally given to us) was uncomfortable. I used to come here when I was younger , and was disappointed it’s strained itself with the gastropub look! Just serve honest pub grub with a good old pint . I know you’re a chain now, but come on guys! Views are magnificent though and worth a drink (and I mean A drink) .

Visited today and to be honest wasn't that great. My main meal was £6 and is was a joke and so over priced for what it was. My chips where cold and when asked for them to be swapped the waitress was quite rude.Won't be eating there again.

Visited for lunch after having been a few weeks ago and being impressed with the Covid protocol. We were disappointed today to find the one way system was no longer in use. More noticeable was that The staff were extremely miserable and unhelpful. The food was good and reasonably priced but the service needs to improve

First time in since the pubs opened and called in for a drink after a walk. Spotless, well organised and very professional. They took our details at the bar and all the staff were wearing masks or visors. I would definitely come to eat here and it was a shame to see it so quiet on a Saturday afternoon. I felt very safe and will definitely be coming again.

Came here on a Wednesday afternoon. We sat outside to take full advantage of the terrific views. We had the leisurely lunch menu which the Pate was nice but the stilton and peppercorns starter was average at best not much flavour. They never cleared our starters and brought us our mains so the wasps enjoyed gathering on our empty plates. The bread for the sandwiches we had were hard and very crisp so not that enjoyable to eat. Caramel sundae and Eton mess sundae were both very nice.

My wife and I have eaten here a few times over lockdown good service our last waiter was Aaron Betts very polite and courteous the steak pie is to die for bar service a bit slow

We booked a table at 1pm for lunch, ordered 2 pints, 2 starters and mains. The waiter brought our starters but had to go back as didn’t bring any cutlery, as we hadn’t had our drink we asked the waiter where they were only to be told it would be a different waiter who would bring them. The salt & pepper squid was nice but the prawn & avocado salad as watery. By 1.40 we still hadn’t received our drinks and had finished our starters. I had to go over to another waiter to ask where our drinks were. He went off to find out. A different waiter then brought our mains out (still no drinks and without cutlery) we asked the waiter who delivered our mains where our drinks were, only to be told that 3 staff members had called in sick after going out the night before (not really the response or apology we required). Both mains were tepid at best and the veggies with the steak pie were more on the under cooked side. All in all a very disappointing experience.

I went looking for some appetizers before meeting up with some friends and wow was I blown away. The chef Rebecca J knocked it out of the park. She is such an amazing chef and the starters I had were *chefs kiss* extraordinary. Props to Hare and Hounds for nabbing this unbelievable young talent

Visited here for our first outing since February and was amazed by the views from the car park. Ordered the camembert starter and it was sublime. Clearly the starter chef Rebecca J is at home in the kitchen, I would definitely be coming back

Myself and my partner had a great visit on Tuesday. Food was lovely, team worked well. Have to say a massive thank you to the host Rob. When we arrived we was informed that the telephone lines and card machines weren't working. He still looked very relaxed and had everything under control.The pub it self looked lovely and covid safe. Tables were well separated, on arrival the Rob was stood behind a screen and team had masks or sheilds on.Thank you, will definitely be back!!

The food and drinks were excellent as usual, it is our local pub and we have been coming here for over 40 years. The service was efficient and very pleasant from our 2 waiters Max R and Rob.

Visited the Hare & Hounds on Monday during the Eat Out to Help Out offer. The food was amazing and service was extremely fast and thorough. Our server Emilia was very busy but always made sure that we were happy and had everything we needed. Thanks Emilia!

This pub is in a nice setting with fabulous views but the food could be better. Ordered pie and chips and fish and chips. The pie was better than the fish, the fish being slightly soggy. The vegetables were dried up. You can tell these meals have been sat on a warming plate. The food could definitely be improved upon. What’s wrong with making it fresh to order?? Good service - was served by Olivia who was polite and helpful .

Managed to book a table through their website for today.On arrival we were greeted and seated quickly and as usual a nice atmosphere, despite the visors!Staff are doing a sterling job under the circumstances.First time I have ever had a salad at a restaurant for my main meal and it was really really nice. I had the chefs garden bowl topped with grilled halloumi. All fresh and tasty and generous portion. I had the spiced cauliflower wings to start. (FIT)My wife had the mac n cheese with the beef ends toppings and really enjoyed it too.The bill had £13 off due to the eat out to help out scheme, which was obviously a bonus. But i would have been just as happy to pay full price for the quality of food and service. Emilia was a great server and would recommend this place to anyone. Ate too fast to take pictures

Just back from the Hare n Hound at Werneth Low as my wife and I wanted a Sunday lunch. Wish we hadn’t bothered. The broccoli florets were brown , the cabbage looked limp and dry, the carrots were hard, the Yorkshire puddings were rubbery and the roast potatoes were very dry as though they had been re heated many times. Won’t be going again. Shame because we used to like it there.

Went in to enjoy a nice pint and was met by a lovely young man called Lawrence who was very happy and helpful. Overall atmosphere was amazing and drinks were good too. Will be visiting again, may even have food next time the lamb shoulder looked amazing.

Had an amazing meal at Hare and Hounds last night - we were unsure whether we would get a table with it being nice weather but were sat quickly outside. Lawrence was amazing and really efficent and quick with everything. Hunters chicken was delish, will definitely be visiting again :)

Hi all was here a few months ago and not good. My partner said to give it a try. Much improved menu good large portions of main meals. Service by Adele who gave excellent service. Will visit again.Only one issue disposable menu on a4 so really tiny font so you will need your glasses.
