Visited Chiswick High Road branch this afternoon. Not overly welcoming by the staff especially the two waitresses. A smile wouldn’t have hurt! Ordered the sashimi which cost £24. King prawn rice, spicy squid, veg spring rolls. 8 pieces of sashimi- 2 pieces we couldn’t eat as they were rubbery & so overpriced it was ridiculous! Chucked on a plate with some grated veg. Awful presentation! I’ve had better spring rolls from a frozen pack of 50 from a SE Asian food market! The squid wasn’t spicy & it was over cooked.. not sure how clean the oil was as the squid came out very dark. The KP rice was the only thing that was passable. Wouldn’t go back here.

Takeaway…… beyond a small portion for chicken and noodles! I get everything is either smaller or more expensive but the small portion did surprise me. Not worth my money frankly. Won’t be going back!

Food is good but the attitude of the manager has a lot to be desired, a very grumpy man being rude to customers. Had a booking and he refused to give us a table but we insisted and finally a younger gentleman helped us. We felt so uncomfortable that we ate quickly and left.

H&T Chiswick - grim place - like eating in an airport lounge. Food arrives very quickly - which gives the feeling that it has been sitting on the stove waiting for someone to order it. Soft shell crab was reheated; stir fry was mushy and lacking in flavour. Maybe they are better at sushi - I sure hope so.

I chose to go to this restaurant as they advertise tempura vegetables on the menu. When we arrived this was "unavailable". The staff refused to make a vegetarian version of the tempura prawn udon dish, but did offer a tofu udon dish as an alternative. I then noticed a panel on the menu that said that vegetarian dishes may contain eggs or dairy (fair enough) but then SEAFOOD. Where are we? The 1950s? Vegetarians DO NOT EAT SEAFOOD. This is not an independent restaurant but part of a chain and should know better.

We ordered pad thai and laksa curry. My pad Thai was inedible - covered in grease, congealed lump of noodles that I could not separate to eat, totally wrong flavour for pad Thai, basically a stir fry instead of a pad thai. My friend ordered a laksa curry and left it virtually untouched despite being hungry.. There was no service to speak of, all staff were Chinese so perhaps the Chinese dishes would be better. I would never go back.

The Good: - Service is good and the food arrives quickly. The Bad: - We found the consistency of the food to be variable between our visits (taste and presentation). - Some of the sushi did not taste fresh. - The portion sizes of the hot dishes may have been reduced when compared to previous visits. Good to Know: - The facilities are downstairs (limited for accessibility). - The number of tables has been reduced to ensure more spacing due to C-19. - There is some limited outdoor seating. - The restaurant gets very busy during peak periods. Top Tips: - The Classic Sushi Box is a good starter dish for those new to sushi. - Keep the menu to hand, you'll most likely need to order more food to be full...

Ended up at this restaurant due to a mix up elsewhere. We were not disappointed at all. They were busy being a Sunday afternoon but coped really well and we had great service. The food was excellent, fresh, tasty and presented well. The staff were very careful with social distancing, and the restaurant and washrooms were spotless, clean and tidy. We will definitely be back soon

I had a curry and it had really poor quality chicken in a small quantity in a curry that was lacking in any flavours and bland sticky rice. My family had sushi which was average. The price was very expensive. This is the second time ordered from here and its been disappointing both times. We wont ever order from here again

Salmon sashimi and inside out salmon avocado sushi roll were really nice. Starters weren’t anything special tbh. I order a lot of fried squid/calamari and theirs was a bit too fishy tasting for me. Wings were best out of all starters, good fried batter and chicken was moist. Gyoza weren’t good at all, soggy and shrivelled. Panko prawns were decent too, but they were a little greasy because of all the batter. Would come again for sushi and sashimi and maybe other mains on the menu, but would avoid the starters next time.

Hare & Tortoise is truly Asian, in that it offers something from virtually all of the continent's constituent countries. There's sushi and katsu curries from Japan to Singapore noodles and Malaysian offerings with Chinese flavours thrown in! And it's pretty tasty, too, with speedy and friendly service and efficient table turn-arounds.A good find.

The reviews and description stating that it’s a Japanese restaurant is quite deceiving. You can get Japanese, Thai, Malaysian dishes there. We tried sashimi and few other small Japanese dishes and glad we didn’t decide on the mains. The food was ok, definitely not the best and sashimi wasn’t fresh. All dishes came out within few minutes means they were definitely not made to order. Service was good and friendly.

Popped in for an impromptu lunch and had a good meal. We chose a number of the starter dishes (gyoza, tempura) and a Pad Thai. Everything was super fresh and very tasty. Except the edamame beans which tasted old and woolly. I pointed this out - as we hadn’t eaten them, and there was no hesitation about taking this off our bill. It was all very quick and the service was really lovely and friendly, and very efficient, despite how busy the place was. I am not one for being fawned over, nor need someone to visit my table every two minutes, in fact, I find that equally bad, but I do expect to be looked after and my own politeness and engagement reciprocated. It wasn't just one of the staff but the 3 or so we encountered from entry to exit. It annoyed me enough to mention it as a bad experience to a few people. Went there for a early evening meal with family, was taken to table quick quickly without much waiting. However, we had to wait for the staff to stop chatting to themselves and catching their eyes, n order to place our order. The drinks came quite quickly and the food soon afterward. However, some of the dishes were shockingly small, for example Singapore Rice Noodles at almost £10 (£9.20), it is more expensive than Chinatown and West end prices. Yet the portion is much to be desire. The tempura soup noddle came in a very large bowl, but again not much content with lots of soup. The service though are quick at times, a number of staff was not well organised or seem to know what to do (experienced) in the skill of waiting (Customer Services). The deco and general lay out are similar to other nearby branches in Ealing, even the toilets are more or less the same right down to the Dyson hand dryer.Generally clean and fresh looking, but the staff needs more training and up skill in the art of Customer Services. The portion need to much better too. Especially in a very competitive market and upper middle demanding Chiswickians. There are lots of strong competitors nearby who have excellent service levels around the same market sector.

I decided to go to Hare and Tortise in Chiswick on a Sunday afternoon. The place was fairly busy with a family of 5 waiting at the entrance to be seated ahead of us. There were a few tables available for two people, so we didn't have a great first impression as no one acknowledged or welcomed us. After waiting for about 10 minutes (still no acknowledgement), the family in front of us were offered a table and only then we were taken to one of the tables. The food arrived promptly after ordering and we were offered to choose whether we wanted the food at once or as the dishes were prepared. We had selected the Singapore Rice noodles (wok fried thin noodles with shredded chicken and pork, prawns, eggs, Chinese mushrooms, carrots, onions, bean sprouts, topped with chillies and served with a lime wedge) along with chive and shrimp gyoza. My wife had a veg chow mein along with pumpkin croquette and veg spring rolls. All dishes were tasty and well prepared.Drinks wise, we had jasmine teas and a Green juice (blend of apple, kiwi and cucumber). The green juice was a total let down as it was full of ice and was quite diluted. It did not seem to be freshly prepared and I had to request for the ice to be taken out. The waiters seems quite busy and you have to make an effort to grab some attention. All in all, the food was tasty and the place had quite a buzz with a mixture of family and couples. I would go back again!

Pretty average, run of the mill sushi. The type you typically get in prepackaged supermarket trays. I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what it was. Duck with rice was ok, nothing that any half decent Chinese takeaway couldn't rustle up in a few minutes. Staff were pleasant enough. Interestingly, after the bill was settled I should have received around £6 in change. This never actually materialised. I would have left this as a tip despite the bland and uninteresting food, but the fact that the staff chose to assume this to be the case leaves a slightly bitter taste. The decor and surroundings here are pleasant enough, but really nothing here worth recommending in terms of food, and certainly not worth returning.

The Hare and Tortoise menu is a haven for anyone who enjoys sushi, but don't worry. If you're not a sushi and sashimi fan, they also serve a range of Thai and South East Asian dishes if you are in the mood for something else. The sushi is beautifully fresh and we'll presented, and the curries and side dishes are equally delicious. And the range of South East Asian beers and wines is more than enough to keep even the most specific palate happy. The service is efficient, attentive and friendly, without ever being pushy or over done. And beat of all, after an excellent meal with perfect service, the size of the bill will leave you very pleasantly surprised, especially given the very high standard of the food. This is a casual restaurant rather than fine dining, but the quality of the food and the service place it well above the competition.Well worth a visit!

there has always been a queue whenever I have gone by this restaurant and decided to see what the fuss was all about on Saturday. Unfortunately the establishment does not take bookings and it is on a turn up and may have to wait for a table basis. Our starters were all delicious and very well presented as were all our main courses and I can now see the fuss. I also particularly liked the young vibrant atmosphere and the staff were all very charming and attentive. You are not going for a Micheline restaurant but for a quick meal, you will not be disappointed. I just hope they don't become too popular and loose their appeal as normally happens!

We go often. It is very consistent - good food at a good price. The raw juice drinks are very good and the Singapore noodles are worth having.

One of our favourite restaurants in Chiswick. Staff always lovely and the food is always great. For a chain restaurant their sushi is amazing - always fresh and well presented. Love it.

This place was great! I don't think I've had such fast and efficient customer service ever. The place was full and we had to wait a few minutes to get a table but once we sat down, we ordered drinks and they were on our table within 30 seconds. Food was also surprising quick to come. Good stuff Hare and Tortoise!

I went here last Saturday and the food was amazing! We didn't book so worried about getting a table but despite being busy they sat us next to the window and took our drinks order straight away. As a vegetarian I was spoilt for choice. Went for a starter and the veggie sushi platter- it was all delicious. Fantastic value for money. A refillable herbal tea is only 1.10! Will most certainly return to try a different dish! The only reason I have knocked one star off is because they seemed to be a bit understaffed. The waitresses were rushing around quite a lot and it took a while if we wanted to grab their attention to ask for a refill.

Went for early dinner with a couple of friends and we all loved it, from the starters to the mains and desserts, which I'm not big on, but still enjoyed. The best bit has to be the saki, they have a few different selections which were absolutely delicious. Best of all good value all around with a few drinks deal, so ideal for a group dinner before going out out.

If you like asian food and sushi in particular and are on a budget this is where you should be. I have visited both the Kensington and Chiswick branch and have enjoyed both.On both occasions I had a fried rice dish that was more than plenty to eat. However the tables are a bit small and the seats hard I really enjoy the food and the dessert in particular. I had a mango and Coconut ice cream, the presentation and combinations of flavours is just perfect. you have to wait a bit since this restaurant is always packed which is a sign that this is a great restaurant. Service could be a bit more attentive but considering the price I cannot complain and will gladly return to test their sushi.

My sister who lives in London suggested this restaurant. This is a good Asian Fusionrestaurant with choices catering for all who enjoy Asian food. Conveniently locatedin Chiswick and open for lunch till dinner, so no need to rush. The service is quickand the food good whether it be Japanese, Chinese or Malaysian dishes. Noreservations taken but management was kind enough to make an exception whenI rang from Canada to make a reservation for a reunion with my family for lunchon my trip back to Chiswick where I used to live. During my short trip I ate hereseveral times both lunch and dinner. Wish I had this restaurant where I live now in Canada.

Remembered going to the Hare & Tortoise on Kensington High Street many times in the past and took the opportunity to visit their restaurant in Chiswick for lunch. A bonus for me on walking to the restaurant from the parking was seeing Rick Stein on his red Ferrari mobile phone walking past Devonshire Road. If he hadn't been on his phone I would have liked to have thanked him for the many hours of pleasure he has given me with his culinary travel programs on TV. The restaurant in High Street Kensington was run by Japanese all those years ago, whereas this restaurant is run by Thai. Service excellent and friendly. However music playing in restaurants is a bugbear of mine and for some reason they couldn't turn down to volume. The menu is a mix of Japanese ( sushi, sashimi, yakitori, maki, tempura, etc.), Malay, Thai - excellent choice. To drink had the jasmine tea, green juice, and sparkling water and for starters had salmon sashimi, shrimp sushi, spicy tuna maki and miso soup and chicken yakitori. Followed by Curry Laksa and shrimp gyoza. All excellent.TIP - The Curry Laksa portion ( fish, shrimp, cuttlefish, soya in bowl of thin noodles in spicy soup) is huge so share bowl with friend and order other smaller dishes to share. One request - for toddlers there isn't much choice if you want to avoid raw fish and noodles - would be great if Hare and tortoise could add Chicken Katsu to their menu ( breaded chicken) for children, as the toddler with us wasn't too keen on the fatty glazed chicken yakitori on a stick.Pleasant experience, but bill not cheap at £51 including service, for two adults and one toddler. But food great and great service. For desert, go to Fouberts, around the corner on Turnham Green Terrace for the worlds best ice cream !

Katsu curry is amazing. Service is always friendly so cant complaint there. It tends to get very busy on the weekends so you could expect a cue sometimes. Definitely recommend this place (even if they did just raise their prices slightly)

The food seems to have gone downhill since the local down. I thought my miso soup was very tasteless and my daughter’s dumplings soggy and anaemic looking. I used the think Itsu was a good fast food place for cheep and cheerful food but I suspect they have lost a bit of quality control. A real shame as they were the best of a stuff bunch of reasonable chains. I hope things pick up again soon.
