Very quickly got the food. Friendly stuff and delicious food

Visited twice in 2 weeks for lunch and dinner and it’s officially my favourite sushi place in London. The seasoning and cooking of the rice are so on point and well balanced with the fish. The shari has the right amount of “fluffiness” and I love the elongated shape of the sushi. They don’t have a big kitchen but I can see how the chef pours his heart to do what he can do best with the limitations of ingredients and spaces. Both the eel and tempura have simple yet perfect execution. I particularly love how the sauces are not overwhelming in taste and volume so that you can appreciate the unique harmony that Japanese food brings (and their amazing rice!). I love everything about Sushi Bar Makoto from its cooking philosophy to its service and atmosphere. I look forward to my next visit soon!

Prawn tempura was very oily… Not bad sushi, but not great either. Was very mid I’d say itsu is slightly better which is crazy as itsu is supposed to be “fast” sushi. Highly disappointed Overall wouldn’t recommend

A very small restaurant. You will expect this is a warm and nice one as it is managed by a Japanese chef. However, the waitress is impolite and rude. Food is not bad but we will not visit again as the waitress is very unfriendly and seems racism. It is not worth to spend this kind of money to receive this kind of service. Parking is expensive on the street and it is £6 for 90 mins.

Lovely authentic Japanese restaurant, quite small but well located close to the High Street and Transport links. With authentic Japanese food sushi and sashimi this is definitely want to stop for. I definitely would recommend the sushi which is authentic and prepared on the day with classic options and sashimi Barts as this is an authentic place even the miso soup is amazing.

I got mixed tempura (£19) and it was soggy and doughy. Service was good and they brought a new one immediately that was crispier. It was inoffensive but bland. I enjoyed my refreshing tap water the most. I might have gone at a bad time (Tuesday evening, but was still lively) but I’ve been coming here since it was still on Devonshire road. Maybe the sushi is still nice here but I don’t think I’ll go back anymore.

My favorite Japanese restaurant in London. Authentic tastes and fresh sashimi, the set lunch is value for the money. Convenient location, which is next to the underground station. Cozy restaurant with about 20 seats. Reservation is recommended.

I adore this little gem serving authentic Japanese cuisine. It feels like being transported to Japan. The entire staff is Japanese with fantastic service mind, and the chef meticulously prepares each sushi with great passion. I've dined there multiple times and will undoubtedly return soon.

Got turned away by a very rude waiter who offered no explanation - only “closed”. It was 4.55pm on a Saturday but she insisted that the restaurant was closed, yet it they were still taking orders from a table. The notices outside their restaurant did not even mention their update closing times (except for a Christmas closure from the 24th of Dec to 2nd Jan). Utterly disappointed, and felt they could have done a better job in explaining why they did not want to serve us.

Fantastic Sushi Spot in Turnham Green I recently visited this Japanese sushi restaurant in Turnham Green in London for lunch, and it was an absolute delight. Though the space is not very large, it’s clean, cosy, and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal. My friend and I tried the sushi set lunch, which was excellent. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and every bite was absolutely delicious. The quality truly stood out. The staff were kind, friendly, and attentive, serving everything neatly and with care. On top of that, the prices were very reasonable, offering great value for such high-quality food. This is a place that keeps me coming back, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious sushi in a cosy setting.

Authentic! Authentic!! Authentic!!!

Excelente calidad, servicio rápido y eficiente. Precios razonables. Es un gran hallazgo. Me gustaría volver con amigos y familiares. Es un restaurante pequeño, así que aconsejo hacer una reserva ya que tuve mucha suerte de conseguir el único lugar en el bar de sushi ya que otro cliente estaba a punto de irse. No es un lugar de lujo, pero prefiero tener buena comida que decoración ornamentada.

Good food in this no frills, small authentic Japanese eatery. Fast service, if that’s what you’re after, so great if you’re going elsewhere afterwards.

It's still one my of my favourite sushi places in West London. You won't regret it.

Makoto is a small family run restaurant in Chiswick. Very chilled casual spot serving good quality food. They’ve got a couple of tables and luckily we booked a table. We came on a Monday and it was busy. Definitely a good sign! I do love it being quite small inside with outdated decor inside and a big handwritten specials menu. There’s also counter seats where you can watch the sushi chef in action. The food was exceptional. Couldn’t fault it! It was absolutely delicious. Fish was very fresh. Portion size was big. They have a wide variety of Japanese dishes along with sashimi and sushi. I had a great time eating here and would want to come back. Definitely worth adding to your list.

20 Sept. Three of us adults. Our experience: Used to be a great place . Whole service crew (new) basic-English speakers. Sat us down and took our order. Beer came up immediately. Now for the food: For 45 mins they kept us waiting. Other tables arrived, were served (items we ordered) and left ! We realise they had mixed it up. We reminded them twice and they then scrambled to get our orders. One order was wrong but didn’t matter to us after 1 hour ! Won’t be coming back . Food was ok but I was in a foul mood.

I have tried a number of Japanese restaurants in London and I think this one is by far the most outstanding one! We have ordered Chirashi bowl, Tuna Sashimi Bowl and Tempure Bowl. All of them in huge portion, freshly cooked with good ingredients! I must say the Tuna has been really out of the league - most of the tuna in UK are tasteless and this one has a strong umami, very impressed! Wasabi is also fresh, which is very rare in UK! Tempura is exceptionally good, and the sauce made me think about Japan! PS: we ordered fried tofu as well but that was just average PPS: a lot of people were ordering sushi / sashimi set The restaurant is compact and is always full, Japanese staffs and Japanese eaters as well. Japanese cuisine is London is always very expensive, but Makoto delivers the best value out of it. Highly recommend!

This place used to be a best place to be. But the menu changed and I feel they should have more variety. Most of the waitresses are fine, but I had a bad experience with one waitress recently. She was a bit rude, not friendly and slowed the dish on the table. I can’t believe she is a Japanese….

It was extremely hot that day & their air con was just right. They were attentive & their food was delicious. What drew me in was their plum wine & yuzu ice cream. It was a balance & taste so I will definitely be going back.

Lovely Japanese food with reasonable price

I have been huge fan of Japanese food. But I came here for the first time, i like karaage, it isn't greasy and rice so good👍

Do not recommend. Unbearable service. Unsatisfactory environment. At 11:59pm, it suddenly started to rain heavily and I was going to take shelter and have my lunch at this restaurant. But the staff insisted on not letting me in even though I said I just wanted to stand in the doorway to get out of the rain and that I could wait for them to open in a minute before being seated. The staff wasn't very fluent in English so I offered to communicate in Japanese, but they didn't seem to understand. After I spoke to the staff, they were still whispering to themselves in Japanese in response to my questions (most of the seats were fully booked, and I offered to sit in a seat that was an hour away from the appointed time to finish my meal quickly, but unfortunately they still didn't seem to understand what I meant). The food wasn't bad, but the restaurant heavily smelled like fish and the poor service made the food taste even worse. Would not recommend to come to this one. We have better options around.

Very cozy place with lovely attentive staff. It’s very popular so was lucky to book a table, definitely recommend booking in advance. The sushi was fresh and you can see it being made. Very quick service and delicious food!

The food was decent, but not quite as spectacular as some of the reviews had led me to expect. The sashimi was fresh, but it didn't have as much natural flavour as I was hoping for. The Spider Roll Deluxe was too large; I would have preferred smaller bites with more pieces, which would have made it easier to share. There were extra ingredients compared to normal spider roll, but I didn’t expect the size to be big. The nigiri was a bit disappointing, as the rice portions were too small and the seaweed was unfortunately stale. However, the grilled salmon was nicely done. The service was efficient, though it didn’t stand out as anything exceptional. Overall, it was an okay experience, but not quite up to the hype.

Very authentic Japanese food. But casual and reasonable price. Many Japanese customers were there when I went. Definitely come back again. May 2024. Revisited. Sea food salads has many kind of sashimi on top with sesame sauce. Silver Sashimi selection is 5 different kinds of thick cut sashimi which you won't be disappointed. Drink menu is not variety, very basic. Bento box is very popular.

One of the main issues was that the sushi, though clearly handmade with care, lacked the vibrant flavors and intricate seasoning that one expects from a quality sushi bar. Each bite tasted as if it could have been made from ingredients purchased at Waitrose, but at a fraction of the cost. This lack of distinctive taste made it difficult to justify the premium prices on the menu. Adding to the lackluster experience was the ambiance. The restaurant is quite dark, which might be intended to create an intimate setting but instead felt uninviting. The dim lighting made it hard to appreciate the presentation of the dishes, and the overall atmosphere was more somber than sophisticated. While Sushi Bar Makoto excels in the freshness of its ingredients, it falls short in delivering a memorable culinary experience. For the price, one would expect a more flavorful and engaging meal, paired with a more welcoming ambiance. Unfortunately, it seems like this sushi bar relies too heavily on the quality of its ingredients without delivering the depth of flavor and atmosphere that truly defines exceptional sushi dining.

When a friend took me there for the fist time the sushi was so good but when I went there the other day I wasn't impressed sadly. The sushi rice was hard and dry. Disappointed.

If you are looking for the most authentic Japanese restaurant outside of Japan, look no further. Everything we've tried here is exceptional but nothing compares to the Unagi Don bowl. My girlfriend and I love it!

I invited friend to real Japanese restaurant in London and Makoto is the one, real Japanese. Sashimi was thick cut and fresh, Japanese staff were so friendly and recommended what is best to order from specialty. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Don’t go to fake Japanese restaurants.

Incredibly fresh, high quality sushi. The dishes stand out compared to other sushi restaurants and you can see the chefs prepare the dishes right in front of you. Who needs to spend 2 or 3 times the amount at Nobu when Chiswick's got this gem of a restaurant. FYI - everyone must try the Miso aubergine!!

UNA DON lunch set comes with salad and miso soup £18.50. The portion is Large. taste same as Japan. Perfect place for friends catching up over meals.

Small sushi place right by the Turnham Green Tube station that serves some of the best sushi we've had anywhere. And the teriyaki eel over rice might be the best dish we've had anywhere in the last year. It is very small, so I would recommend that you get reservations by calling them. We were lucky enough to be seated without a reservation, but we saw many people get turned away. We will definitely return!

Great high value Japanese restaurant around local area. Sashimi and sushi are fresh, others dishes also can above average quality. But the tempura is quite normal. Staff are kindly!

I have been here four times now and every time I am so happy with the quality of the food. I ordered some grilled aubergines, simmered yellowtail, panko fried prawns, the Silver sashimi platter, grilled eel and katsu chicken curry. Favourite dish was the grilled eel and the aubergines!!! But all of them were delicious. 😋

Local authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. Consistently excellent and reasonably priced. Cost/performance is great. My wife and I regularly come here to have our sushi fix. 😋 Never disappoints. Fish is fresh and prepared beautifully. Service is always friendly. A strong recommendation for anyone looking for good sushi. Look no further. 👍🏼
