Hard Lines in Cardiff

I absolutely love Hardlines - from the coffee to the staff to the food they serve this is my favourite place I ever go to, I was never a big coffee drinker but hardlines have always done the nicest iced coffees, to my favourite hot coffees, whether it’s a latte, mocha or a black coffee they all taste lovely. Anyway back to the review! I went to hardlines at around 10:20/10:30 on a Monday in February, we turned up (me and my partner) we asked if we could sit in as was quite busy, it was quite warm so I ordered an iced vanilla latte, my partner ordered a mocha. The food is cooked to order, so as it says on my about me I’m a fussy eater, but they helped me out by altering what I wanted so I could just get some nice food without being to much of a pain, the staff are always lovely, the coffee is always great and the food was fantastic for what it was, will always come back here!

I go to the coffee shop in Canton, doesn’t seem to have a page here! It’s really good, great atmosphere and staff. Coffee is good, so are the pastries and pancakes. Love the branding too. They do a running group and a newsletter full of fun stuff.

Really cool hole in the wall stall in Cardiff market. Good place to grab a nice coffee or snack in town.

I payed for nothing … the pastry with chocolate was without any filling inside and without taste.. the iced tea I order the same not any flavour … No quality .. no passion

Wow, what a rude, aggressive and ignorant owner. I ordered a last minute gift for a coffee lover friend of mine, the website clearly stated that the roastery was closed until January 4th 2022, however, nowhere did it state at the point of sale or on the website that coffee could not be collected from their Canton coffee shop. On visiting the Canton branch to collect our order my wife was turned away by the extremely rude and aggressive owner and was told that she could not collect the order despite the two bags we ordered sitting on the shelf half a meter from the checkout. My wife was aggressively told to cancel the order via email and that if she wanted to purchase the coffee she would have to buy again there and then. My wife decided to leave the coffee shop. I then had a chat with the apparent business owner at the Canton store who continued with her aggressive, rude and condescending rant regarding collection and delivery. Quite why I went ahead with the purchase is beyond me but at least I received a sarcastic Merry Christmas from the lovely Hard Lines ‘owner’ on my way out of the coffee shop. My family love our coffee and being from Cardiff wanted to support and praise a local business going forward but I can safely say we will continue buying from Clifton. No way can I support such a rude and unwelcoming business owner. We were excited to see your roastery open close to Radyr, where we live, but one things for sure, we won’t be giving the thumbs up to our neighbours if they ask about Hard Lines - hopefully the coffee tastes great but knowing the business is owned by such a rude individual it’ll always leave a sour taste.

Very small cup. Very pricey at £3.00 for a latte. Not very hot! Nice taste however. Wouldn’t not recommend but….

Not just the best coffee in Cardiff but loads of interesting things to eat and drink. A must visit for anyone in the Cardiff area if you love food or coffee!

Please be careful when ordering from the website for coffee. My first payment hadn’t gone through, so I paid for another bag, received the order number for one of the bags. On checking my bank statement two payments had been taken. I emailed right away to get them to look into my query. I didn’t receive a response. I emailed again and it took so long for to sort out my request the other bag of coffee arrived! Now I like coffee but spending £30 on two bags of coffee with two separate postage costs is a little much! Needless to Say I’m not happy with the customer service. It clearly states on the website that if your not happy with the order they would I help. I Was told I would not be able to return the coffee because it’s freshly roasted. However I do work for a coffee company myself and I would happily allow the customer to send the coffee back if there where any issues. I must have been served by the person who wrote the below. For me it’s about customer service and the lack of it at this establishment. Is a shame because I love the look and branding of the business.

My girlfriend had been talking about how amazing this cafe is and spoke very highly of the vegan menu. As a vegan good menus are quite hard to come by so I was very excited to give it a go! I ordered two bah mis and the gentleman told me to the pick the sandwiches out the fridge. I did question whether these were the right ones as they had different names on them and he said those were the ones and tbh I didn't really question it more. After taking a bite out the sandwich, I realised it was the wrong one as it had cheese in it. I went back to the cafe and said that there's been a misunderstanding and apologised for not being clear about my order. They point black refused to do anything about it or even offer an apology of their own for the mix up and just simply said theres nothing they can do, and was made to feel really stupid about my order. Pretty low from from them and really bad customer service. People obviously make mistakes and im really disappointed with how it was handled.

Visited this place with my daughter who is studying in Cardiff. At first glance I thought it was a place that was from my era. The interior is very nostalgic and looks like it should smell of old cigarette smoke, akin to the places my grandparents would take me when I was a young lad. My daughter enjoyed it as she says it’s feels like she’s sat in the diner from her favourite show “Fargo”. Last time I checked that was a movie! The staff I’ll admit were very cool. They reminded me of myself when I was in University. Though i imagine they’d laugh at my former self with my long hair, flares and painters smock. I’m sure they’d scoff at my choice in vinyl to. The food and coffee here was very good. My daughter is one of those vegans so I was interested to see what she ate whilst away from home. We had two fat whites with “Oat milk” and vegan BLTs. The coffee really surprised me, it tastes almost like spiced fruit cake. They apparently roast there own beans there and you can see the machinery on show. Now. The food. I was worried about the food but didn’t want to cause a fuss in front of my daughter. The last time I ate vegan food was in a dorm room with Angela Williams, an old love interest who fancied herself as a Yoko Ono. Her food used to taste of spicy dust swimming in some form of broth. However, this sandwich was excellent. The “bacon” was smokey and crisp, the lettuce and tomato was as fresh as a spring morning and the little hint of garlic in their “mayonnaise” was absolutely spectacular. All in all, a very nice place. I imagine it would be a bit too cool for an old timer like myself to sit with the paper, however, a great place to visit with my daughter and “hang out”. Score: 10/10

Really excellent speciality coffee but also good for somebody who just wants a coffee. Both the market and shop in Canton are without a doubt the best place to go for a coffee in Cardiff, if not South Wales. You can also pick up freshly roasted beans while you're there!

Really nice coffee and love their location in Cardiff Market. The people who work here are really nice. I would recommend the vegan snickers bars on sale here! Good luck for your new cafe in Canton!

My friend and I have taken to touring Cardiff coffee shops in our lunch breaks when we can, and trying to find the best coffee in Cardiff. I'm not one for artisan coffees, I like it strong and straight. We made our way to this one on the recommendation of a colleague, and since they'd just released a new speciality blend it was this that they had spun up for the day. I actually enjoyed it! It was an apricot and citrus blend, and despite my reservations I enjoyed the whole cup! Top that off with top quality customer service. The guy at the store was a real gent, even going so far as to recommend a place for lunch. It made for a refreshing lunch break.

Thought we’d try this coffee stall from word of mouth. We ordered a latte and oat milk flat white as oat milk was the only alternative milk choice, but this was fine. Both our coffees tasted burnt from overheating of the milk and the guy serving us seemed too cool to care about anything other than taking our money. A please and thanks would have been decent. Maybe take a trip to another independent coffee stall next time.

This is a proper little gem, myself and my collegues often make the trip across town to get our fix here. Small little independant with plenty of things to see dotted around the setting. Aesthetics aside the coffee and service is always fantastic.

Having been ruined by good coffee at TH Coffi Porthmadog I am fussy.....this is really great coffee made well and accompanied by good music and a pleasant vibe 10/10
