Superb tearooms, the tea is delicious with a beautiful aroma, well worth the cost

Prompt and courteous service. Relaxed, comfortable atmosphere in historic Cardiff arcade. Only criticism is that payment is by card only. I perhaps wrongly understood that cash was still legal tender in UK.

What a joy to go to this quirky tea room. Highly recommended

Interior was very well decorated but the food was dramatically underwhelming, I had the avocado and eggs on toast , I was served a well presented dish but the quality of it was no where near the aesthetic of it , my toast was just slightly warm bread , the avocado was too salty , and the egg was overdone, as for the coffee I had bordered a cappuccino , that turned being half a cup of coffee with a massive head of froth that wasn’t even warm enough to dissolve my sugar, my partners eggs royale was also overdone with cold bread , and the hot chocolate was more like warm milk Very disappointed considering the cost of the food and drink

Updated: Still coming here, I really enjoy it, although, annoyingly sometimes the upstairs isn't open so there isn't always a place to sit. Also, a weird one, but with the bacon and egg sandwich & the sausage and egg sandwich, there could be another egg, I usually have to split it up so that there is egg in both sides? Love it in here! Always lovely, staff are amazing, it is table service food, however, it is usually filled up with customers and they don't accept bookings, so be prepared to sit in the outdoor table (covered, in the arcade) and wait for a table to free up.

The wonderful mornings in the really nice and atmospheric tea room were the best thing about my two-day trip in Cardiff. Warm staff and lovely interior. The drinks are top class and the food is absolutely great for the price

"Last weekend, my husband and I visited here. We ordered a cup of rose black tea and a coffee with a tea cake. They were good. One disappointing thing is that they were out of Welsh cakes.

This is our second visit to Barkers this year and it’s becoming our go to place, when visiting Cardiff. The food, service and atmosphere are all excellent. If you are in Cardiff I can strongly recommend for brunch or afternoon tea. Thank you to you all for putting a little magic to our visits!

Stopped in for afternoon tea with my daughter while on vacation. This was on a recommendation from the front desk at The Angel Hotel. We very much enjoyed the atmosphere and the woman at the front was very kind and helpful. The Carmel Black Tea was so good!!!! The only tiny fault was the cake was a bit dry. Not bad at all but, noticeable. Sandwiches were wonderful. If ever back in Cardiff, I'll stop in again. Price seemed very fair as well.

I was in Cardiff for a book signing. Having travelled from Pembrokeshire I was looking forward to a light lunch at an independent business. I went inside and it wasn’t terribly organised. There was no front of house person; I saw people taking orders behind a bar but couldn’t see a menu. Turned out they are on a wall facing AWAY from the door. Placed my order only to be presented with a card machine. However, I’ve lost my bank card and am awaiting a replacement. This meant I only had cash on me. So I had to leave when they stated that they only accept card payments. I feel this is not very inclusive, especially to those on a limited budget who rely upon cash to avoid getting into debt. I wouldn’t recommend, sadly.

I loved everything about this place, food, coffee and the look of the place. Staff were wonderfully welcoming and helpful. The sandwich was big enough to feed a family. Loads of cheese, ham and pickle. Excellent place.

I went here for my sister’s birthday. Loved the afternoon and hot chocolate was the best.

I'm sorry to say that we were very disappointed. The place looks so inviting but our food was cold and too expensive. I couldn't finish my meal. We won't be returning.

Not the afternoon tea to enjoy the sandwiches were like door steps and tasteless the cake was a large slice stuck on top nothing dainty although the tea was nice and scones but never worth the money and won"t be making a return visit

We went for afternoon tea and unfortunately I was quite disappointed it looked as tho the sandwich’s had been thrown together (nothing like the pictures on Facebook or instagram) I can’t say it was an enjoyable experience all we could hear was the smashing of plates we were sat by the dishwasher the noise was ridiculous (all other customers were looking and frowning to see what was going on). I’ve been here before for breakfast and it was really nice, maybe we were just unlucky? Something that did annoy me was that we were given latte cups for our tea maybe it’s just me being fussy but I like a teacup.

I've not been here for 2 years yet this place is still amazing with a great selection of teas and cakes as well as other food all inside one of the most beautiful arcades in Cardiff, this is a great place to relax and rest after a busy day wandering around Cardiff.

By applying some form of heat to the bread they manage to transform its physical properties to something more suitable for brunch.

Great ambience and one of the best hot chocolates i have had!

Went for a business breakfast. Nice place and good service, but ordered Eggs florentine… and the eggs were hard. Sooooo poor. £1, I think

We stumbled upon this place while staying in Cardiff for two nights and loved it so much we visited for breakfast both days… such a lovely cosy feel with many hidden corners to tuck away in. The doorstop bread anything was exceptional… I had it toasted the first day - yum ! And a sausage and egg sandwich the second. Great friendly service … a real find!

Lively tea room in arcade and when the food did arrive it was lovely but we waited over 45 mins for the food and although they were busy they were by no means full. No apology when we eventually had our food. Husband had scrambled egg on toast which was presented in a bowl with two bits of toast - weird! Would attempt to go again when not so busy as the bread was gorgeous

Popped in for brunch and ordered a sausage and egg sandwich and latte. Coffee was lovely though small but the egg and sausage are obviously made in the microwave. The sausage was lukewarm and pale and the egg was nuclear hot and rock hard. Stick to a cold sandwich or cakes if you come. The surroundings are cosy but there are plenty of similar with better food close by (big mousse)

We stumbled across barkers when we were looking for an afternoon cup of tea. From the outside the tea rooms are welcoming and only gets better when you go inside. The decor is fantastic and if you are able to get one of the larger arm chairs it's very hard to leave. The menu is great and if unless you are starving the afternoon tea is ample for 2-4 people so very good value. The staff were welcoming and extremely helpful allowing more hot water for the tea pot. If we were local, it would definitely be a regular dining spot.

Love coming here for my brew. Usually with friends and family. Ideal to go without kids as it's relatively small. It feels cosy when it's a small party. Pricey for drinks and cake and I don't mind as I visit occasionally.

The food is nice. The staff is friendly. The seating is very comfortable. And overall this is such a cosy place!

I've never put a bad review on your site, but today..please don't warm your scones..as when it arrived it was very hot and spongy and spoilt the taste. Everything else was good.

Just had our first experience of barker tea rooms, great service really welcoming, warm friendly atmosphere, didn't have enough time to sample the afternoon tea but had the carrot cake, chain late all fabulous, defo goin back next time in Cardiff. Five star🌟👍🏻

Paid almost £18.00 for eggs Florentine and coffee. Overall size of portion in a dish not much bigger than a side plate. 1 extremely small muffin, 2 small eggs & hollandaise sauce tasted like salad cream. Spinach served uncooked (there was loads of it) and 1 small cherry tomato cut in half to garnish. Won't eat there again.

Barker's is the ideal cafe to sit in on a cold frosty afternoon. Their quantities are great, they have amazing vegan options, delicious cakes and pancakes and their chai tea latte and luxury hot chocolate is to die for!! Very highly recommended!!

Loved the tea rooms, 20 pounds per person got 4 sandwiches. Beautifully decorated with a selection of teas on offer. In a very central location not too far away from Cardiff castle.

They have pancakes for brunch. Avoid them. They are dry and hard, like they are made in batch hours earlier and re-heated. What they claim is maple syrup is most certainly not maple, but instead some sort of high fructose corn syrup or other cheap substitute. The blueberries and strawberries were fresh so I’m happy to give one star, otherwise I’d argue for zero.

Delightful cafe located on the High Street Arcade. Cozy overstuffed chairs in the restaurant and cafe style tables in the arcade. The menu offers a wide range of food, teas and coffees. Our party enjoyed a variety of coffees and only ordered tea cakes. We will definitely return soon and I highly recommend to anyone looking for a proper British tea room, I'd give 6 stars for atmosphere if I could. This is a great place to bring visitors.
