Harbour Hotel Chichester in Chichester

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel as a special treat for a weekend getaway in Chichester. I don't know whether the prices were jacked up for the bank holiday weekend, but at nearly £300 a night we were looking forward to something really quite special. Unfortunately however, whilst the hotel was perfectly decent and we had a lovely weekend, it was certainly not the luxury experience we were expecting. We booked the cheapest room at the hotel, but quite frankly, you can not sell a room that small for £300 a night, bank holiday or not. And by small I mean, it was only just big enough for a double bed. We had to really squeeze around the gap between the bed and the wall to get into bed. We liked the decor in the hotel and the room, there was complementary bottled water and a nice touch was that there was also complementary gin in the room (although the tonic water we had to pay for but that's ok). But when we asked for the complimentary ice to accompany the gin and tonic we were told at reception to get it ourselves from the bar. I really don't mind doing that at all, but you can not bill that as a luxury service because it's not. I will also add that there was a 45 minute wait for our cooked breakfast in the morning. The continental breakfast offering was merely average at best, if not verging on poor, with only a little more choice on offer other than cereals, toast, croissants, yoghurt and fruit salad. Where were the exciting options we were expecting?! Incidentally, I also had to tell the staff on 3 separate occasions that I had already pre paid for the cooked breakfast, which was frustrating. And there was no air conditioning although a fan was provided. Apparently the building is grade two listed so air con can’t be installed, but the long and short of it was that we were uncomfortably hot at night and it wasn’t even the heat of summer. Oh, and the lift was an old fashioned and extremely temperamental lift - we witnessed one poor panic stricken woman getting stuck in it as we checked out. None of these things scream luxury. All in all, an average to below average hotel with quirks you'd be prepared to put up with normally, but not at those prices.

Enjoyable stay here, rooms were very comfortable, staff very friendly, great location. Very good breakfast. Naz was very attentive and helpful.

Nice hotel. Room was nice, very comfy bed. Old Hotel so expect creaky floorboards and low ceilings, plenty of padding on doors and ceiling for tall people like myself. Could do with a bit of TLC but still an enjoyable stay

Went for our anniversary the food was not as good as we expected, wouldn't go back.

Quality at a fair price with excellent staff throughout!

I can not recommend this hotel. The bed was very uncomfortable. I had no confirmation of my booking which was strange. The check in was slow. The room was OK. Clean and renovated bathroom. The restaurant was quite good. I was not very impressed overall considering the cost of the room. I was quite disappointed.

An overnight stay ahead of an event at Goodwood. Very comfortable bed. Room is compact. Bathroom was clean and spacious. We had limited engagement with staff, both those we met were very friendly and helpful. We did not have dinner or breakfast.

Beautiful building in a great location, lovely staff and very comfortable but three short words that are fatal for any hotel in my book, No Hot Water. I know some people like to start the day with a cold shower but I’m not one of them. Had a day of racing at Goodwood ahead and that was a miserable start.

Excellent service and staff friendly

Have stayed several times. Unfortunately this time the sound of the wedding is just too much. Know the hotel is for events, but think hotel needs to let people know who have booked, of possible loudness. Love a bit of celebration but the base of the music is intense through the floors !!!

Lovely comfortable room. Complimentary gin in the room was a nice touch. Large bed with super soft pillows, duvet, and mattress topper. Only disappointment was that breakfast was extra and a charge for on site parking.

Just had a pre theatre meal here. We had the set menu - 2 courses for £16.95. Just wanted to say the food was amazing, our waitress was lovely, the dining room is beautiful. It was not busy and I just don’t know why. We will definitely go again. Great value and a really great way to start our evening.
