Happy House Chinese Takeaway in Ipswich

I ordered a delivery from here tonight which I have done several times before, even previously leaving a 5 star review. However, on this occasion it was only ok. Time from order to delivery, no complaints but the food was barely warm on arrival & sadly not as tasty as it normally is. I will not be put off from one bad experience but I am disappointed after looking forward to this meal

Ordered on Just Eat, Waited over a hour for our order online to be told its been cancelled, phoned up to ask why to get met with some guy talking absolute nonsense having a pop at us for using a service they advertise on?...

Went in to order my food and as usual lovely food was given free prawn crackers with my meal and the owner Is always so lovely even though there always clearly so busy ! No matter how busy they are there so polite without a doubt highly recommended

My usual Chinese takeaway on Clapgate Lane was closed on Monday, so my partner suggested I try Happy House instead. Very disappointed. Aside from being more expensive, the beef curry I had was bland. A couple of pieces of mushroom, two bits of onion (literally) and no other vegetable.

The food we have purchased here over the years has always been spot on. Flavour, spices are great, the delivery is always on time with polite drivers, and Jerry the owner is a character like no other. You wouldnt be disappointed.

My first time using here but it will be my last. Portions size is a quite small. I had a chop suey it was very wet and very bland.

I would not order from anywhere else except this lovely restaurant! They are simply the best in ipswich! They're are so friendly, kind and helpful and the food is just amazing! Arrives hot, with a friendly delivery driver and is always so very, very tasty!

Rang at up placed order,was in there 10mins.. Paid at till, watched people come in, order them see them leave, this happened a few times, then I said "wheres my order?" After half an hour.... He said what did you order?, got money back walked out, won't be going there again.. 😠

I have always had excellent friendly service from happy house and the kitchen is very clean and well run.

I honestly don’t know how this place has so many positive reviews on Just Eat. Quite honestly, it’s the worst Chinese I’ve ever had. Beef in satay sauce looked and tasted like water. Special curry was thick, tasteless, lacking in vegetables and had obviously just warmed up a sauce and chucked some meat in. We binned those dishes after a few mouthfuls. The crispy duck isn’t shredded, so after an hour and a half wait and luke warm food we then have to faff around shredding it ourselves whilst the other food gets even colder. Not really the point of ordering take away food. Vegetable spring rolls were chewy, not crispy. Egg fried rice was alright. Delivery driver was nice and did return to drop off the drink which was initially forgotten. Have left an honest review on Just Eat, expecting that the restaurant will be just as rude to me as they seem to have been to others who do not praise them. Which is fine, I wouldn’t waste my money again.

Phoned to make a order, the man who answered was ridiculously rude, food was cold and slimy I couldn’t even eat it and wouldn’t risk reheating the slob.

Phoned to make order, the man who takes orders on phone started acting really weird, claiming I had got a full refund last week, this was not me it was my daughter who was refunded automatically by just eat because it was really late. All a bit strange really so decided to go to another Chinese restaurant which there is hundreds of. It’s a shame really because I’m a regular user of Chinese takeaway but after hearing the man’s weird reaction to just eat refunding automatically because of the ridiculous waiting time I’m actually really pleased and I’ve found a great Chinese elsewhere, I would never use again.

Not worth it.. Save your money or go elsewhere. Beef was so chewy, onions were fairly raw not properly cooked with chip an chips were old.. Must have been recooked. Only good thing was it delivered quick

We have ordered from Happy House several times now. The food has been great every single time. Delivery has always been on time for us too. Absolutely no complaints. Great food and great customer service.

Wow friends put us onto this place and it's one of the best takeaways I've had in a long time amazing food arrived super hot as well.

The best Chinese food in the town! Every time I go,( I collect)..I'm greeted by the nicest,people. Always a happy smile,and a chat! The phones ring non stop..and the drivers are constantly tooing and froing.. A great sign for the customers,knowing the food is fresh and well cooked.. Brilliant place to get food from..😁👍🏼

We order from here on a regular basis. We have never had a bad meal and each time we order we enjoy our meal and have absolutely no complaints at all. Thankyou Happy House for consistent delicious meals. We will be back soon.

Food was stone cold. Salt and pepper wings had fat skin all on the bottom, bbq sauce was like pure slime poured of a jar and into a microwave, sweetcorn soup was luke warm. Seaweed was all stringy and stuck together, blandest thing I’ve ever tasted in my entire life. Chicken curry just absolute flavourless. Rang them up to complain they didn’t even give a sheet. Don’t give these guys cooking trash food a penny. Order elsewhere

Had to call to find out where my food was after 45 mins. They told me they had left it outside. The food was sitting on the floor for 45mins and would have been longer had I not called or someone could have taken it!! We have 2 doorbells that work and my number is always used for just eat orders. They pushed me off the phone by telling me they will send another as I complained the food was terribly cold and the service was poor. Half an hour later the driver demanded the previous food back saying he needed to charge his driver for it. His attitude was terrible considering we were starving and its Corona period. The food was good though.

We really enjoyed the meal on Christmas eve and the food came very quickly. The food was a 9/10 but the kids loved it

We felt the portions sizes were quite small and also bit skimpy on the sauce in the dishes and not many cashew nuts, seaweed wasn't that crispy, the rice was good and the food arrived quite hot, delivery was in good time.

Great customer service, rang to check if it was ok to order for someone with a nut sensitivity. Charming gentleman who reassured us that would be no problem. When I dithered over whether I had ordered too much food for 4 people he agreed and made suggestions for dishes not needed. I collected as it was quicker On a busy Saturday evening and only had to wait a few minutes. Food was piping hot and all dishes were very tasty. No greasy aftertaste and it was the perfect amount for 4 hungry adults. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Happy House is our go-to Chinese. Local, good food, and reasonably priced. This review, however, is focused on their customer service. Our collection order had been mixed up with another, so we ended up going back to the takeaway. The man behind the till (always welcoming and friendly) apologised profusely and our order was cooked fresh again, brought out to the car, with an extra something as an apology. Mistakes do happen; it's what happens next that matters more.

The food wasn't good, pancake rolls so greasey the batter had all stuck to the paper bag. Chips were crispy and not nice, in fact all the food was mega greasey and left a nasty after taste. Won't be going back

For me I thought the food was a bit bland , sauces seemed quite dry and sweet.and sour was very sweet and syrupy, while my partner quite enjoyed it

Utterly awful customer service. Cold food. Possible the rudest business I have ever dealt with. If you want tasty, fresh, delivery on time do not order from happy house. If you want cold, unfresh, the rudest company then go ahead and order.

I always use happy house as I'm a regular always polite friendly service usually have home delivery and food is always hot but the food is 5* excellent great portions tasty I cant fault this takeaway its number 1 for me 🙂

I am extremely disgusted and unsatisfied with the service I received from “Happy house” this evening. I called them at around 5:15 pm to ask if they were open for delivery, due to the corona virus difficulties but also because the just eat app was saying a 2 hour delivery wait. Before I could even ask my question regarding the just eat app, the man on the phone rudely interrupted me and shouted “do you want to order or not!?”. I was shocked but didn’t react and stated I just wanted to ask a question so he let me continue then proceeded to patronise me and say “well you’re talking to the restaurant and I say yes so hurry up and order or don’t”. At that point, I took it upon myself to decline service from “happy house” due to their extreme rudeness and lack of customer service. In my opinion, don’t waste time ordering from a business who quite clearly do not value their customers. I alternatively ordered a delicious meal from China city instead who were happy to help and even gave 10% discount.

Fantastic food! Was fresh and crisp! Didn't taste any excess oil that comes with some take away Chinese places and the duck fell off the bone and was moist. Would very much recommend!

Gave meat in a vegetarian meal - because of allergies - and no way to directly get in contact. Could've caused serious damage if not noticed.

Ordered from happy house and was sent the wrong items, it was damaged and late. I tried to process a refund through just eat and they said to call the restaurant which I did and the guy in the phone was extremely rude, shouting at me and talking over me. Now just eat can’t process my refund because the restaurant haven’t marked my order as “complete” which they claim to have done. I’m now out of pocket and very angry.

I really like this place. The guy that runs it is a very nice man he remembers my specific orders even when i forget! Food is always top quality too. Wouldn’t use anyone else!

My wife and I have eaten regulary from the Happy House Chinese Takeaway for nearly 4 years. The food is cooked to perfection, perfectly cooked meat, mouthwateringly good sauces. First time I have been to Happy house Chinese Had special curry, boiled rice, pancake rolls, chips, curry sauce, absolutely delicious, definitely ordering from there again.

AVOID AVOID AVOID It was our 1st time trying this chinese takeaway and i can honestly say i WONT be using this place again!! I had chicken chow mein which was bland and semi warm. The egg fried rice didnt look or taste fried just looked like boiled rice with a few bits of egg in. My husband had chicken curry and boiled rice. The curry had a funny taste to it and as for the boiled rice it was as hard as a brick you literally had to stab it with a fork and get it in chunks to eat it. The best bit out of the meal was the free fortune cookies and the prawn crackers. Then we spent majority of the night on the toilet and both missed a day at work due to feeling ill. WHAT A WASTE OF £20 AND A DAYS PAY!!!

Placed an order around 6PM, store accepted my order and revised the delivery time by an extra 15 minutes. Order should have been delivered at 7.30. Called up 7.40 to be told the order was only then being cooked. Staff member was extremely rude, continually talking over me whilst on the phone. Told that nothing could be done, they were busy, it would be at least another 30 minutes for the food to be cooked (not including delivery time). Order should not have been accepted and delivery time should not have been set by the restaurant if they were not able to fulfil the order in the timeframe they set themselves. Thoroughly disappointed with the service and still waiting for the order.

Lovely chips cooked while you wait pleasant staff

Very bad service from this Chinese, half of our order never came and then got called lairs and said that we never ordered it. Even though we had proof of payment and order, will never use again very poor service and disappointed, when i called them up the manager was very rude, intimidating and just wouldn’t let me speak and tell me that i never ordered it.

Food was cold half the order missing and tried to charge us again for it I will never go there again called us liars and poor customer service when I called the manager was rude and they hung up on me while I was talking to them worse place ever

Advertised delivery time was 40 minutes arrived after 2 hour wait. Food barely warm and mostly a congealed mess. Pork in black bean sauce more like a fatty stew. Chicken satay soggy and greasy. Spot the egg in the dry egg fried rice. Awful just awful.

Surprised this place was not already on trip advisor as had a couple of thousand good reviews elsewhere. Our usual takeaway was closed so we decided to try Happy House. Very friendly staff and food arrived before estimated time. Due to a misunderstanding one item was missing, when I rang to query the man advised that he would deliver the missing item in 7 minutes. He did. The food was delicious, the best Chinese takeaway we have had in ages from wonderful, friendly staff. We will no longer go anywhere else. Very impressed.
