It’s super bad. It’s all frozen food. It’s a self-service hot pot for 25 pounds per person. You’ll get crazy after eating it. Don’t go there.

Happy hotpot was an exciting experience! For most of my friends, this was the first hotpot they experienced and the all you can eat appeal is very exciting. The restaurant is quite a cozy respite from the busy streets of newington in old town, but I can say that our 2 hours spent in the restaurant was well worth it.

The foods are amazinggg!! Their meats are halal👍🏻

This place isn’t very good. the layout is absolutely horrendous, there’s literally no space in between tables and it’s so inconvenient to get up and get more food because the chances of you bumping into people or knocking over someone’s chopsticks is so high. Additionally, there aren’t many choices in the first place, the veggie section is super dry and for 25 pound a person, I definitely expected more than store bought 1 pound udon packets to be the only noodle selection there is… the service felt lazy and disappointing. Definitely extremely overrated.

Everything designed for hot pot. You choose the broth, get the ingredients and then cook them yourself in the broth. Great concept, unfortunately poorly explained and the ambience is not classy, ​​typically Asian. Still a great experience with endless possibilities and therefore suitable for everyone.

This restaurant has some special ingredients, such as braised tendons of beef and pig intestines. The soup base and condiments have a balanced taste. However, the owner's taste in music needs to be improved. Changing the background music might help boost business.

A rare gem in Edinburgh for a homely hot pot experience! We came in for a late dinner and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Although the soup bases were served quite bland as is, the store offers a generous condiments section for you to mix and select a range of condiments and customise your soup as you wish. We did that and really enjoyed the broth after! There was a good selection of both cooked and raw ingredients and, for the price, it’s really very worth it! Apart from drinks, most everything else is self service. There aren’t very clear instructions on how the store operates, but if you go in knowing it’s an all-you-can-eat / buffet style, it’s quite self explanatory and intuitive. The employees are hardworking and helpful, and even though we ate until closing time they never rushed us out. Very happy to have tried this place!

I am here to rectify the name of this restaurant. It has been five years since I first stepped into this hotpot restaurant in Aibao. I always read on Xhs that this restaurant has poor service, so I have never dared to go there. I always go to Lianpu. But to be honest, eating hot pot is just about sitting down and eating your own food. Add water in time, and what kind of service is needed? I didn't feel the service was bad, I felt it was better than LP, which had no service. The food is also good. There are lobsters and chrysanthemums that are not found in other restaurants. In short, it is delicious! Come again next time

The ingredients at Laocheng Yiguo are very fresh, the soup base is rich and tastes great. My classmates and I had a great time eating. Highly recommend everyone to try it. This is a hot pot and barbecue buffet, including mutton, beef, pork, and seafood such as bread crab, prawns, squid, shrimp, and mussels. There are also many vegetables and noodles, dumplings. There are various salad dishes and fruits, such as watermelon, honeydew melon. There are also fried spring rolls, fried steamed buns, grilled lamb chops, and grilled chicken gizzards. The environment is elegant, 2 hours passed quietly, and we will come back to eat!

My family always come there flr the meal. We have tried different hotpot restaurants and just stick with this one. The owner and staffs are friendly. They get update and change the dish for not be boring. All self-service and the food be refilled quick. Normally in winter will be more busy. We will back and always back when we want hotpot.

Best hotpot around in Edinburgh!!!

I came to Edinburgh for a trip and it was a bit overwhelming after eating Western food for 3 days. I saw this restaurant while browsing Xiaohongshu and walked 23 minutes from the castle to this restaurant. For 25 pounds per person, the lamb tastes very good! ! Very satisfied, I wish the boss a prosperous business~

Someone recommended me to go to this restaurant to eat hot pot before, but later I found that the service attitude was not very friendly and the hygiene was not very good either. The most important thing is that my stomach hurts about an hour after eating. I went to the bathroom three times in a row, which proved that the food was definitely unclean.

The mutton shabu is great and the seasoning is very complete. The food is very fresh and it is the best Chinese restaurant we have eaten in Edinburgh.

Have tried a few hot pots and Korean bbqs in Scotland and this is one of the best, lots of good options to choose from, thank you and will definitely be back

I have visited Xiaohongshu many times. This is my first time to eat there. It is very delicious, the food is very fresh and the price is very cheap! !

3-8y half price Adults £25 Can be hit or miss with the some of the service depending who serves you. But once you know what to do , you just get on with it. You need to have a general idea on how long to cook the food. Most will not take very long. The staff bring your chosen broth, and you help yourself to to the cooking ingredients. It can get rather hot and steamy in the restaurant as there isn't anything fans on the premises. So I recommend light layers.

I checked in last week and I think the food is good and everything is available. The environment is much better than what Xiaohongshu said. It's clean and not as bad as the photos in Xiaohongshu. The only delicacy I gave 4 stars is the addition of a portion of lamb scorpion to the bottom of the pot. It costs only 4 yuan or 5 yuan, which I think is a bit small. I don’t know if the cost is higher.

I went there Saturday afternoon the restaurant was quiet...good selection lots of food for you to pick for your hot pot and you can go pick them up yourself no need to order it was great! The down side for me on that day ( I dont know about other days tho) was ...no starter usually the hotpot places I been... they always got starter or snacks for you to nibbles first while waiting for your soup to come also only a few pieces of fruits left for us as dessert but overall it's good 😊...a little advice for someone who's wanna drive to there...you can find car park area at the back road no far from police station...booking by app or sometime someone will be in the hut for you to pay for the car park 2hrs for 6.50£ and only couple minutes walk to the restaurant.

My friend and I have been here so many times now (at least 40 or 50 times it feels like!). We have been to hot pot restaurants in many different countries now, and I can hand on heart say that this is *the best* we’ve been to. The food is of SUCH good quality (this is the place that made me fall in love with hotpot, honestly), and the staff are always super friendly. The lady that works at the desk in particular treats us like friends every time we are there! We always have such a lovely time, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely - bright, airy and welcoming. If you are looking for good, authentic and good value hotpot in Edinburgh, this should definitely be your first stop! 😊 Thank you to the staff for always giving us a lovely experience! ❤️

If you don't like people having too much, price your food higher or don't have it as a buffet at all. 3. The ambience of the place was also terrible, some people were shouting loud and some ate standing right next to the food counter but the staff did nothing to remind them that the restaurant is a public space. Instead they tried several times to stop us from having more food even though the dining time limit was not met.

Don't come if you don't wanna eat leftovers. It's very bad, the store looks like it's closed down, there's no one around, the ingredients on the menu are not fresh at all, and the receptionist talks in a weird way. This store still has a four-point rating thanks to the old warm and friendly proprietress. The current service is worth one point at most.

Yesterday was the first time to dine. The environment was good. We arrived very early and were seated at 4:30. There were not many food options but the food was full at last. By 5 o'clock, there were already 8-9 tables of guests. The food cabinet The food was almost cleared, but the waiter did not replenish the food. We checked out at 6:30 and did not replenish the food. The biggest dissatisfaction is the £4.9 soda refill, which was left at room temperature at the cashier. There is no gas or ice. It’s terrible👎

I must admit that, having tried hot pot multiple times in China, this place really does provide true hot pot. There were plenty of fresh things available.

The greatest hotpot restaurant in Edinburgh is this one if you truly want to sample real Chinese food! It would be helpful to maintain the English labels current, but that is not a problem for me because I simply ask my wife what it says.

Hot pot , you can get full as is unlimited food however there could be better choices of food. Can get very smelly as well as is small room. Drinks are over priced and there is not much alcohol to choose from.

Worth £25 spent. They have plenty menus on choices; seafood, meats, vegetable, fish ball 🩵. They also offer refill soft drink. The staff are very helpful and nice. Toilet is so clean. Really recommended

Kein Schickimicki Laden, aber Preis-Leistung war top! Haben zu zweit 56£ inklusive Getränke mit Refill und 3 verschiedenen Brühen gezahlt. Die Zutaten waren alle sehr frisch. Es gab eine große Auswahl an Meeresfrüchten, Pilzen bzw. Gemüse, Nudeln/Dumplings, Tofu und Fleisch - alles sehr vielfältig. Dips waren auch genügend vorhanden. Die Brühen waren auch sehr schmackhaft und wurden bei Bedarf auch wieder aufgefüllt. Wir würden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.

It is mainly a hotpot place, so mostly self service. Staff are ok, didn’t need to communicate much, so I could relax and chat free with my friend without disturbing. Food is good, it occasionally has a few steamed food and cold side dishes, quite nice and yummy! Prices are going up, but go there as a treat is nice with friends. Only thing is could see flies in the summer. Hope they can sort it out?! Thanks.

Went as a group of 6 - 1 with a fish allergy and 1 with a mushroom allergy. Was fine as long as you keep your broth separate. Okay variety of hot pot items - some cooked items too. The ribs were well received by a few at our table. The sauce table was right behind our table so it was awkward at times getting in and out but otherwise okay.

All new to this but what a lovely surprise 😮.... left with my weight in broth waddling down the street. Can't recommend this place enough!!! GO!!!

齁咸的酱料，底汤味道也一般，价格亲民的有道理。美其名曰自助餐，却借口多多地不及时添加受欢迎的菜料，不够珍惜自己的商誉啊，可惜了。

Went here twice. Great food, you pay per person and can take as much as you want (within reason ofc). Great atmosphere for hotpot night with mates - was lucky our friend used to work at a hotpot place and could show us the ropes to make the most out of our experience!

We were told for kids under 10 , is half price , but they charged full price for 2 kids (one 4 and one 9), we later told them, and they say they have misquote the price, and reduce the price for 1 kid. Leave a distaste to me, and would never go to this shop again! Black shop and dishonest owner

Hatte schon in China mehrmals Hot-Pot, und ich muss sagen, dass es hier schon sehr authentisch ist. Ware war frisch und reichlich, und wir bekamen sogar eine Beratung welche Brühen wir am Besten nehmen. Sehr freundliches Personal! Klar sind die Räumlichkeiten ein wenig beengt, aber auch in China habe ich erlebt, dass man einfach "geselliger" ist, da ist es nicht so schlimm wenn es mal enger zugeht.

Eventually found the meat selection hiding in a cabinet under the other fridge items lol. Great experience, would happily recommend but make sure to book in advance, busy but a great little place. Only issue is the lack of leg room as the table is more of a pedestal, expected as its a hot pot table.
