After tonight's cheeky takeaway it is safe to say that this is the best Chinese food I ever had. Very tasty, delicious dinner with a very quick friendly delivery. 👍

rude staff , when we are told after placing an order that they don’t accept cash from a new customer been ordering for over a year and a half very disappointed with the service to a loyal customer.

The food is just fine. Like it's fine. Nothing special. Not awful, but good enough. Shame the prices aren't dirt cheap or I'd hold it in higher standing - they charge more than what they're worth.

The best Chinese takeaway in Chelmsford. Always great tasting food and they have a decent selection of tofu dishes for veggies. Good value and if you order on their website you get a slight discount. Always quick and arrives hot.

I order here regularly but I definitely agree with people that the food quality has been slipping. My food today was very salty and difficult to eat. The large spring roll is filled up with bean sprouts and hardly any meat anymore. Some of the dishes have way too much onion to overcompensate for lack of other vegetables. Please do better especially since the prices are continuously going up!

This is normally my go to Chinese but lately the standard and portion sizes are slipping, order a large spring roll it's was 98% bean sprouts that were under cooked, 5 pieces of the smallest bits of pork and zero bits of srimp. The prawn crakers don't even get me started I paid £2.60 and I received 8 in the bag, must be some kind of joke you can buy 2 massive bags from aldi for less. Safe to say I will be looking for a new Chinese from now on

You order from an app at this place and they bring it out. They don’t really wait on you. The green beans are SO GOOD. Must have. The house special stir fry beef is SPICY. And the lomein is okay… wouldn’t get the lomein again

I ordered some food from them Thursday last week and had to return the lot. It was so poor I will never use them again as their standards have deteriorated. I’m still awaiting my full refund on my card. Also there was no apologies from them in anyway ,apart from if all the good isn’t returned you can’t get a refund.

I was a bit skeptical about trying a new Chinese in chelmsford but pleasantly suprised. Chicken balls were fantastic and the chilli beef was perfect. Didn't like the satay sauce but excellent service. Food was hot and ready as soon as I arrived.

2 dished tasted of Bleech , not using ever again was very ill after. As to finally having a 'lovely' reply, what do you clean with then?! Because you have caused me stomach and poo problems, I used to love your food until this. I should have just reported to food hygiene to come take a look as this is the second time the food tasted extremely chemically wrong! I am very disappointed , I asked for some extra chili and was told to pay an extra £1 I cancelled the order as i am putting my foot down, for an extra bit of chili as the ribs do not have much flavour is ridiculous , The person i spoke to on the phone showed zero sympathy despite me telling him i have ordered several times with no issue, they have lost a customer as i have always come and will actually post on my socials as i am shocked , if he said 20p fair enough but £1 ! I am not asking for sauce on my rice i am asking my food to be cooked with chili !! very poor customer service and i am disappointed and dissatisfied

I ordered king prawn pad Thai and second time in a row it’s over cooked. It’s just soggy and blunt. I have complained to them about this before and they said they were sorry to hear it but will keep an eye out for next time. Yet I find it to have happened again.

Ordered a few days ago, the delivery time was quick and the food was really enjoyable. Salt and chilli king prawns were great and satay chicken skewers were nice, was all delicious. Definitely would recommend.

We searched around for ages for a new chinese takeaway after our previous "go to" local establishment slapped on a minimum order fee (£25) and delivery charge. For 2 people thats not always feasible. The food from happy gourmet is delicious, consistent and well priced. Lived all over the country and this takeaway comes out in our top 3 from all the different chinese takeaways we've tried.

Love their food as I always order takeaways from them. I have been their patron for so many years. Staff are very polite and their service is top notch.

Happy gourmet is the best Chinese in Chelmsford. I randomly ordered one night because was cheapest delivery fee on justeat. Food always comes very hot and tasty. All requests for ingredients removed or added are always done. Can’t fault. Even encouraged others I know to order from happy gourmet and all very happy and carry on ordering from you guys. Awful!! Sorry to say we used to order from here before lockdown and was always nice fresh and hot! Tonight was neither of those things! The crispy duck was old and chewy…the chow mien, salt and chilli prawns and egg fried rice was so bad, seemed like the leftovers from the weekend had been reheated and served as a fresh midweek take out which clearly it wasn’t!! We have much better buying a supermarket edition of the above and it’s simply by far much superior and cheaper than what we encountered tonight!! Would NEVER order here again!!!!

Nice food, as usual, but no free prawn crackers (again!) despite asking for them. Third time this has happened. It clearly states on the menu - Free prawn crackers with orders over £17. Don't print it if you don't mean it.

I collected the food as I am staying in a nearby hotel. The food was amazingly tasty, hot and fresh. It tasted just like a takeaway I used in London for many years before it closed. If ever I stay in Chelmsford again I will definitely be back to the Happy Gourmet.

Delivery takes 1 hour 45 mins with no email confirmation, no estimated time for delivery and they don’t answer their phone. Clearly, they no longer have the resources to support the demand and can’t communicate. If you can’t support your customers, then don’t bother. Happy Gourmet seems to have changed for the worse.. Disappointed as they used to be good. Won’t be going back.

If there was a minus button I still don’t think it would go low enough. Shambles of delivery and extremely rude on the phone, trying to blame us for their mistake. Obviously feel they don’t have to worry about customer service anymore!

Food really fresh and tasty. The crispy beef is done well, nice and crispy and not chewy or soggy, can't say that about most places. Chicken balls not greasy and likewise with the chow mein, chilli ribs lovely as well!

The food was delivered cold. Chips were hard and sharp. Chow mein was bland and pale. Rice was bland and lacked egg for an egg fried rice , Prawn toast was a waste of money not even one slice of bread. Would definetley not recommend or use again. One of the best, if not the best Chinese takeaways in chelmsford.

They used to be good but not anymore. One and half hours delivery, food overcooked and dry and tasteless for the second time around (gave them benefit of doubt 1st time)...offered a new food order in return for old food but I wasn’t prepared to wait another one and half hours. Never Again Sorry!!!

Went to order tonight from our regular happy gourmet and had a look through the just eat reviews to notice that my comment on how there was a hair in my food on our last order and how they should be more careful in the kitchen was taken off. That's really disappointing, that comment should of been taken as a health and safety complaint and not wiped off, I understand that it looks bad for you but you shouldn't act like it doesn't exist, you should of responded reassuring me it won't happen again making me feel confident to order from you again.. Therefore we no longer want to order from happy gourmet again, not because of the food because despite the hair the food is decent but because of poor health and safety and customer service.

The food is usually consistent from here but my last order merely consisted of a couple of portions of sweet and sour balls. They arrived a very dark brown colour, overcooked and inedible. I called and asked for some more to be sent out which they did but alas, they were much the same. As I said on the phone at the time, the chef would have known they were overcooked and should never have sent them out. My search for a decent Chinese takeaway in Chelmsford continues.

Excellent Chinese.... I ordered from here last week crispy duck, curry, rice and spring roll..... the duck was excellent lots of extra pancakes and sauce..... the curry was brilliant my partner and he said it’s one of the best his ever had!! So we are ordering again this week!!

I always return here for my roast duck rice and Chow Mein, always reliable quality and taste.

Tasty food and quick delivery. Note: Although you state that it’s free delivery over £15.00 I was still charged for delivery. And service charge. If less than £15 it’s £4+ service charge for delivery which I think is a little excessive.

I’m the most fussy Chinese takeaway man I know, It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to my Chinese food . If it’s not spot on I’d rather chuck it in the bin and sit there bitterly disappointed that I had a bad meal . I’d not tried Happy Gourmet before as I’d found another Chinese takeaway that served my high standard of food before I’d got to Happy Gourmet . I’ve not had a takeaway during lockdown but my urges for a Chinese takeaway got the better of me tonight and I decided to order one , unfortunately my usual takeaway was not serving during during lockdown so I had to make a choice do I risk an untried takeaway after 7 weeks without my favourite food. Would this be a massive regret. This is one of the first times I’ve tried somewhere new of the bat and had a perfect meal , perfectly hot and great tasting . I always collect normally from takeaway premises, I hate waiting for an hour to an hour and a half for delivery, this turned up in 25 mins which was 15 mins quicker than the time I’d got from just eat website . Thank you Happy Gourmet for beating my expectations and making me wish I’d ordered earlier in this lockdown. You have a new customer for life now . Many thanks Ben

Food was as good as always however an expensive item was missed off the order.

Quicker than expected delivery, food was hot - chow mein and rice had good amounts of meat in unlike some other places where it’s mainly just noodles or rice.
