Great Fish and Chips, Fish was cooked fresh when we arrived so plus points there. Chips just crispy enough and not soft or greasy. Fish is not cheap any more but good value here.

Really large portions and very affordable but the chips were dry. The actual fish tasted great and fresh but the batter felt a bit hard both on the fish and sausages.

This shop knows how to deliver quality food! Fish was perfect including the chips with a good amount of salt and vinegar put on it.

I ordered a vegetable spring roll and was very shocked when I opened up the wrapping. For one they had wrapped it with the two sausages I had brought,might not be a big deal to some but I was getting the vegetable spring roll for someone that doesn't eat meat so this was very inappropriate to do. Secondly the spring roll they gave me was in a batter not the normal looking spring rolls that I normally get from there. When I went back to complain the older lady was rude and tried to tell me that this was how they should look and that this is what other people like. She then called for other people in the back which I assume was her son and another daughter. They all started talking in their language obviously about me and laughing between themselves. Very poor customer service indeed and inappropriate behaviour. I for sure will Not be spending another penny in this shop.

They need a better fluffy air batter for there fish. I have to take it off and just eat the fish. When I go other places I can eat the batter. But here is too heavy.

Where do I start wow these fish and chips are and I say the best fish and chips I have ever eaten wow they are good. I love there crispy but soft fish and their chips are just to die for highly recommend staff are friendly and very very VERY generous with the portion sizes. When I order a small I get a x large it’s amazing keep up the amazing work happy fish bar!!

I’ve previously had different experiences here but I’m pleased to say that my third time was a success. The chips were fresh, plump and tasty! I hope that it’ll stay this way, as it sadly does seem to vary.

The Happy Fish Bar is a very high quality place for traditional fish and chips. Always served with a welcoming smile. Good portions that don't break the bank. Well worth the visit. Bon appetite.

I would recommend this shop to anyone. The fish and chips taste great and the portions are huge, it's such great value (small cod £5, small chips £1.60). It's so hard to find a decent chip shop nowadays, but now that I've finally found one, I can honestly say it's a good one, it's consistent in its quality and it's great value money!

I came here about two weeks ago for some takeaway chips. It was around 7pm on a Saturday and the chips were fantastic. They were fresh, tasty, plump and just as chip shop chips should be. Today I decided to grab a portion with my lunch on a Saturday. When I got home I could immediately tell that they were different to the last occasion. They were dark brown and didn’t look fresh. They were soggy and tasted as if they were an old batch. I barely ate a handful. It seems that this establishment varies much in quality - possibly depending on the time of day. This is not what I want from a local chippy and shall not come back here again. It is not somewhere that I would recommend.

Old-school local chippy serving beautifully cooked fish and delicious hand-cut chips. Nice vintage menu board. Usual gherkins, eggs etc in jars at the back. Batter nice and crispy. Chip portions are large! This place is great!

There is not a decent Fish and Chip Shop in Thornton Heath. Luckily this chip shop is around. I have been coming here for about eight years now. Everything I have had from this shop I cannot complain about. Cod is great, Chicken is great, Saveloy is great. Menu is great and it won't break your pockets. This is the best fish and chips shop in Croydon. It is also brilliant value. The fish is so good and they have a great menu. You can phone and order your requirements and most of the time it is cooked to order. The childrens and oap portion is excellent. This shop is a little gem and is recommended.

Just recently moved to Croydon and tried this take away based upon reviews. Definitely recommend as they have the fish batter just right and the chips are really good too. Only recommendation is to give more curry sauce. Staff were really friendly.

If it's good old traditional fish and chips done well that you want this is it. Have been going here for the last 10 years and have never been disappointed. The cod is always fresh generously sized and the batter is perfect. The chips are also just right. There is an art to maintaining quality and consistency and this unassuming and somewhat tatty takeaway has achived this so don't get put off by its looks it's the results that count here.

I go out of my way to get chips from here. The fish is always nice and the sausage is properly battered unlike some places. There is sometimes a long wait as they don't always cook enough for the amount of people on that day. I guess it is unpredictable trade.

I simply hate these guys. They have spoiled fish and chips for me in that I can not buy stuff from any other shop !!! Excellent taste (one of the best i have had) and amazingly cheap prices. My favourite are the cod fritters which are 6 for £2 which anyday beats the cod bites sold at upscale fish and chips shops for a quid each. Would have given them 10 stars if i could.

It's so lovely to find an establishment with good customer service, staff that have been there for years and still uphold the basic fundamentals of what they have always done.... which is provide good, fresh food with no short cuts as far as fish and chips go. If you want real potatoes, peeled and cut into chips, picked eggs, freshly fried fish in batter and other chip shop yummy's, then this is the place to come. Clean....well managed and a warm welcome even if you're a first timer, you can not go wrong here if you fancy a good English classic which will fill your belly for many hours. This establishment is probably one of the last few locations in central Croydon which refuses to forego quality over convenience, the term 'hidden gem' is an understatement when it comes purchasing to your fish and chips here.
