Hap Lee Chinese in Croydon

Order Chinese fron here spent over £60 and the food was awful, the chowmain was pale white didn't taste right the whole order was disgusting dog food I'd say not chinese

My wife and I have just enjoyed a delicious meal at Hap Lee. Although we are veggies, the choice of food was excellent, and the starter delicious. Had three dishes and rice, and all were served promptly, courteously, and piping hot Portion size was generous, so we took home enough for a lunch portion Can't fault it

Great little local Chinese restaurant. The staff are lovely, helpful and there's a pleasant ambience about the place. The take away service is quick - 30 mins; but they may not have been busy when the order was placed. The food is tasty and plenty enough (for 2) coming to under £20 for a take-out. In dining is slightly more due to drinks and service. Hap Lee is worth a visit.

Staff are rude. Food was cold and tasteless. I ordered from here and my order was incomplete. I called and was promised another delivery which never turned up. Don’t order from here.

We went here as a group of 6 friends for dinner. Trying to book was a bit annoying as I called a number of times on Monday and Tuesday but there was no answer. When we finally got through to them they said they are closed on Mondays and then don’t open until Tuesday evening (that’s not what google says so this needs updating). The place is very basic, but comfortable enough. There was no one else there so we had the full attention of the staff. They were helpful enough but not sure what they would be like if it was busy. The food itself was fairly good, but I’ve had better Chinese food at quite a few different restaurants. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, but there’s nothing really wrong with it if you wanted to try it out.

Food was appalling. Very bland and tasteless and even cold on arrival. Much better Chinese restaurants around. Should’ve known not to order from here from when they had a very poor hygiene rating a little while back.. more fool me. Definitely would not recommend and will be ordering from another local in the future. Save your money!!

Just went to Haplee for a birthday meal, the waiter PAUL was very attentive and made the whole experience very nice. The food was well presented and plentiful-good value for money. The restaurant is quite small in size so it would be best to book in advance so as to not be disappointed although it was not packed for a Thursday evening and it rather seemed to be doing more business with takeaways. I did like the fact they did not push us out straight after we had finished our meal. Well done Haplee for a lovely evening.

Ordered take away from here on Bank Hol Mon - Have known the restaurant for over 20 yrs but have not visited for some time, either eat in or take away. Food was extremely disappointing, starters - 1/4 aromatic duck was bone dry and was not even shredded ! Veg chop chop had very little taste to it and had to spice it up at home. Mains were not particularly tasty & seemed bland in comparison to my last meal there which was probably about 5+ yrs ago ! All in all, I would not recommend this restaurant to family and friends as standard of cuisine has somewhat slipped considerably over time and there are far better Chinese restaurants around. So I would strongly advise that you do not waste your money and try somewhere else !

My partner and I decided to go out for a meal. The food was terrible, the rice was hard and ALL the meat was chewy even the crispy chilli beef. We left most of the food on the table and the bill came up to £40. We went to speak with the employees and all they could say is that no one complained and they were saying we were rude for saying the food was not up to standards. I was throwing up all day the following day due to the food that we ate. The nicest thing they provided was the water. The customer service was absolutely disgusting.

This was terrible I’ve never been treated like a piece of rubbish in any restaurant I’ve been the customer service was terrible the food was terrible the drinks was terrible the food was chewy the rice was not hot it was warm I asked for another one and it came back with hard bits In the rice this was the worst restaurant I’ve been to in my life It UPSET MY BELLY and I was on the toilet all day the next day and I called them up about my problem and they said their most famous line “ nobody has complained before “ I’ll never bring my partner to this place again I was charged 40 pounds for something I did not enjoy at all.

We went here for a dinner this week on the recommendation of some friends. The decor was okay, a little dated but not terrible I guess. Service was nice enough, efficient and helpful is the best way to describe. But the food was just average. We were a bit disappointed as we went with high expectations. Prices were fine, well priced. If the food was better I would’ve definitely returned.

We are regular customers here and takeaway quite often, never eaten in so cannot say much about that but we cannot fault their veggie options. The Salt and chilli paneer is soon good and so are the Veggie Singapore Vermicelli noodles! Very lovely friendly staff, and this is the best Chinese local to us. Good portion sizes at very decent prices! Highly recommend.

We've been coming here for over 20 years and I guess its longevity is a testament that sticking to the same old formula, menu and traditions counts for something. It serves reasonable food and is reasonably priced in a traditional chinese restaurant setting. Being lovers of chinese food we do occassionbally order "off menu" which they kindly accommodate for.Whilst not world beaters this family owned restaurant deserves its place as one of the longest established on the A23 Streatham/Norbury high Roads. Give it a try!

All the food we had was lovely, not greasy as is often the case with Chinese food. The salt and chilli tofu/aubergine was the best, so light, crisp and fluffy. the hot and sour sourp was hot and sour, the kind prawn chow mein was smoky and the king prawns were huge. The chopped vegetables and cashew nuts in black bean sauce with pancakes and hoi sin sauce was great too, good to have a vegetarian alternative to the duck pancakes, really nice, spicy and tasty. The Szechuan bean curd could have done with a bit more chilli/Szechuan pepper, but other than that it was a really pleasant surprise to have such nice food from this relatively cheap high street restaurant.

In short, despite years of patronage we have to warn others phoning in to book or to order, that the level of customer service is woefully bad... after several orders through 2016 arriving with incorrect contents, we stopped using them, but recanted in the new year... we rang to order and once again it arrived with wrong items and what looked like yesterdays rice. The attitude I got from a young man identifying him self to be the manager, was staggering... clearly I was in the wrong and he didn't like MY attitude... then he hung up. Long story short, we're done with them... they may have a delicious menu but it would choke me if I have to suffer rudeness in order to enjoy good food. NEVER EVER AGAIN!

What more can you ask for, lots of variety, items topped up quickly, wether you have the buffet or choose from the menu you won't be disappointed. Book in advance as it can get busy

He comido aquí antes y tenía un buen servicio. Sin embargo, fui al restaurante a comprar comida para llevar y no puedo explicar cómo secar la comida era casi como si se quedaron sin aceite o salsa de soja. Fue horrible. Tuve que tirar la comida lejos en lugar de dejar la familia comer. Yo les llamé al día siguiente para quejarme y me dijeron que debería haber llamado el mismo día y cuestionó por qué no llamé el mismo día? Es la segunda vez que me ha decepcionado y me pregunto si tengo un nuevo chef?

Great food good choose on menu staff brilliant and reasonably priced a great take away all way, never had to complain you get what's on offer will recommend to all friends

Noodles that come rock hard with no seasoning and plain as can be, honestly think they gave me super noodles uncooked out the packet, never been to a worse Chinese in my life, along with this the rice was doughy and horrible. Not that this wasn't bad enough the chicken had the texture of play dough and was spongy....Avoid this restaurant it is atrocious and disgusting I will never be returning and hope no one else ever has the displeasure of eating this food ever again.

Este restaurante ha sido alrededor de norbury donde he trabajado más de 40 años. Aunque mucho de norbury ha cambiado este restaurante familiar ha sobrevivido y mantienen un alto nivel. Han evolucionado con el tiempo que satisfarán los gustos de la población local. Si te gusta la buena comida china anglicised ya que tenemos aquí en el Reino Unido (mejor que Foo chino en China en mi opinión) no te decepcionará. Sus platos de Schechuan son buenas. Sin embargo, como sabe usted platos de Schechuan ir, están son picantes!

The food is excellent very tasty and the portions are just right. The manager was very helpful and polite, as for the staff they were friendly, and it was great service.I felt as though I was at home very welcoming

I said I was vegetarian and cannot eat prawn crackers i said can you change it for something vegetarian they said they couldn't awful.

Been going here for the past 20 odd years and its gone down the pan.Gone are the days when the place was heaving, food was superb and service was brilliant... Now its empty, food is below par and the service well.. They spend most time hovering around the bar.Its cold and unwelcoming in there. Miss the old hap lee

Food was not a good quality. Very bland! Didn't enjoy our meal but the service was okay. The food was not very appealing and it had put the dampers on our family as we went out to enjoy a family meal in remembrance of my in-laws

Food was nice, very tasty tho one dish was onlyluke warm, I suspect plate wasn't warmed. Couldn't fault flavours. Service was good, and prices average for the area.

Norbury is a very busy area of London this restaurant has it all friendly staff, excellent food also does take away.

I was abit vary in ordering a takeout from this place as my partner lives in the south. But it was the best Chinese food I have ever had!!! Excellent!!! They deliver what more could you ask for!!! Reasonable priced!!!

The staff are welcoming, the place is clean, the food was hot and tasty. Some interesting flavours. One dish was a little to 'greasy' for my taste but that was a small thing - we had 7 different meals between us, which we shared. Overall a pleasant evening.

We have been going to Hap Lee regularly now for several years for family outings, and also occasionally use their take-away service. Apart from the very occasional 'off day', the food is uniformly excellent, and the welcome and service always warm and friendly. We have tried other Chinese restaurants on one or two occasions just for a change, but keep going back to Hap Lee.Highly recommended.

The food is above average. Good value for money.The chicken mushroom soup had very less chicken.This has happened twice with me. I still like the food though.

My family and I had a meal at this resturant and the food was very bland and tasteless. Everyone in the group was not happy with the food they received. The only thing we all enjoyed was the prawn toast and spring rolls.I would not recommend this resturant as there are far better resturants on London road.
