We held my husbands 60 th birthday party at the pub now renamed The Woodlands and what a fantastic night we all had. the newly refurbished pub was of extremely high standard every one of our guests commented on how beautiful the function room was. The food was incredible and they had prepared vegan/vegetarian separately all food was exceptional. The function room had its own bar and The bar staff were so friendly and kept a well stocked bar for all our guests. Rachel and Lee ensured we had everything we needed and Rachel kept checking with me to make sure our experience met our expectations. At the end of the night the staff made sure we all got our transport home and helped us carry the gifts, cake and even packed up some of the buffet for us to bring home. Everything on the night not only met our expectations but exceeded them. Highly recommend

Came here with my family and had a great meal, great prices for what we had and well cooked and presented, best steak I’ve had for a long time, asked for a blue steak but had to settle for a rare one but it was lovely, the apple crumble was delicious but too much to finish, I will definitely come back when I’m next down from Scotland,

We went in today for tea with our two young children, my daughter ordered a lasagna and I had to send it back since it was dry and burnt due to being microwaved excessively! The other meals where edible at least but I quite difficult to get an all day breakfast seriously wrong! The staff where young but friendly and apologetic and offered to provide a new meal but at this stage the pub was getting very full and rowdy so we decided to leave with our meals half eaten! I have eaten here a few times in the past and it’s always been really pleasant but today it was evident that no thought or care had gone into making the food and it was basically just a case of throwing anything on the plate to get it out of the kitchen! We won’t be eating here again unfortunately!

Home from home, the welcome was as warm as the chilli was hot. 10 out of 10. I think I may well go again.

I can honestly say this was the worse food I’ve ever had, the medium rare steak was well done and dry and the fish was totally inedible, dry and over cooked!!! Same as the chicken on the roast dinner totally inedible dry like rubber and over cooked, The amount of food being sent back was terrible. Out of seven meals on our table 6 were left, The managers attitude is as awful as the food, refusing refunds for food you couldn’t eat. I doubt you would eat the food you cooked today!!! The carpets are filthy and the ladies toilets are disgusting!!!

Great pub, nice outside seating area and plenty of TVs The food there is a different story. 4 of our group ordered ribs from the specials board. They were awful, very little meat on and what was there was chewy and inedible.

We decided to drop in to watch the football one midweek night and grab a bite to eat never eaten here before so decided to give it a try a lot of mixed reviews about it but we like to make up our own minds I ordered the mixed grill and my better half ordered the steak n jacket potato my mixed grill was fantastic I had to admit defeat couldn’t finish it and the jacket potato with steak was to die for a real unexpected pleasure after reading some of the reviews on here just goes to show always try it yourself I for one will definitely be going back

Great pub, perfect for families in the summer with the outdoor play area and football pitch. Great location, 30 seconds from train station and taxi rank. Food is good, atmosphere is good, landlord and bar staff all sound. Been coming here for 20+ years. Best sausages in the North West 👍🏼

This place us fantastic fir karaoke the dj is first class and anyone who thinks otherwise sticj ti ya bingo matey! Not seen anyone in a tracksuit in here jusr people having a laugh! BORING people wont understand humour x 😉

Nice place, nice people but don't understand why they allow dogs in when people are eating, so unhygenic

My partner and I had lunch here today, we waited 40 minutes for our food even though it was virtually empty ( I guess we know why now) I had the lamb shank (if that's what you would call a farty almost burnt piece of meat stuck to a huge red bone) my partner had the scampi. Not impressed with the quality, quantity presentation and taste of the food and the lengthy wait made it a very disappointing lunch!

Have you ever sat in a swamp with someone squeezing a cat down you ear? The decor is dated, you stick to the carpets, the food is sub standard. Don’t ever come on a Friday night, the local chimpanzees are sat in tracksuits and squarking into a microphone while getting battered on Stella or WKD and the DJ is walking round like an utter pleb. I’d burn the place down for the insurance money..... decent pint of Guinness though

it wasnt the best of experiences we have had eating out,, we had to find our own table, the meat we had was tough,,,wouldnt go back again

My niece had an engagement party for 100 people and we all had a great night food and drink was of the highest standards, staff where always friendly and couldn't do enough for us, fantastic night highly recommended

I used to like this pub.. now it has geared itself towards food.. that was a mistake, the food appears to be frozen food heated up.. ready meal choice and ready meal quality.. very poor.. they should invest in a proper chef and do this properly

Out to celebrate husbands birthday and pub staff kindly reserved a large table for the 12 of us - everyone had food which came out quickly and was really good, especially the T bone steaks and the sticky Jack Daniels ribs & chicken most impressed when one of guests wanted a cocktail and it came served in a pineapple shaped glass. Accommodating, welcoming, great atmosphere, staff very friendly and great value for money. Best pub in Widnes

Went to have a family meal as I heard it had been renovated but walked into a Loud non family orientated pub would recommend for watching football/rugby but not for a family meal.

Onto our 5th casual drink of the night...I am a regular as this is my local and I have never been so raged to be in this establishment...I ask for a shot of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum and get this...*see photo*...I request an improvement politely and the response was disgusting by the barmaid with a black t-shirt on with lace shoulders and a plait in her hair *check CCTV if needed of 8th October 2016* "NO THAT IS A SHOT AND I'LL HAVE TO CHARGE YOU FOR ANOTHER ONE"...after bar experience myself, I know that this is not a metric shot like everybody around me had and is receiving whilst they get served. Not impressed Chris.

Visitamos hoy para el almuerzo aprecio éramos un grupo grande, pero esperamos más de una hora para nuestras comidas. Realmente decepcionante, pedimos una ensalada de atún con vestidor en el lateral. Nunca llegaron, ensalada vestidor debería haber sido descrito como un cuenco de hojas, nos las arreglamos para encontrar un par de rodajas finas de cebolla y pepino y unos tomates cherry cortados por la mitad en el piso, servida en un bol pequeño, no tiene buena relación calidad-precio en 6.95. Ah, que era servido con pan de ajo.

Visitó esta tarde con 3 amigos. Mis amigos todos ordenados los cazadores de pollo en £5.95 y yo pedimos el pollo Polo en 6,95 GBP anuncia como en dados de pollo en crema de ajo, vino blanco y salsa servido con arroz y 2 rebanadas de pan de ajo casero sonaba delicioso! Mina obtuvo el primer lugar y se sirve en un plato grande, unos trozos de pollo en dados de natación en un montón de color blanco salsa, arroz blanco y un largo rollo crujiente cortado en dos calentado con mantequilla untar. La presentación era blanco, sosa y descuidadas, el sabor era amplificador abrumado por ajo y poco más y tbh poco apetecible. El arroz estaba bien y el pan estaba grasienta pero no degustación de ajo! Realmente no pude comer mucho. Que no me puedo quejar porque la chica pobre estaba sirviendo detrás de la barra, tomar pedidos, recoger desemboca y esperando en.

Good atmosphere and great beer. Shame about the eye candy! Ideally situated across the road from the train station which normally has some taxis sat outside.

Fuimos para el almuerzo y parecía que era cosas que comprar del supermercado y podías cocinar fácilmente en casa, la comida estaba bien y bien preparado. Pagamos £20 para el almuerzo para mi esposa y yo, y haber ido a tiempo y gastamos menos dinero las cucharas en un almuerzo un poco mejor. Es muy práctico para nosotros, ya que sólo viven a la vuelta de la esquina. Estaba lleno de familias hoy en día. Aunque no disfrute de ahí la alta calificación.

Vinimos para té esta noche después de ver algunas fotos de la nueva que han llegado en filetes - tengo que decir que esto era probablemente una de las mejores carnes que he probado (y era lo suficientemente grande como para compartir: 1,1 kg 😀....

Came in yesterday for tea and it was really busy with the football on so no tables immediately available. However it was such a nice day was lovely to enjoy a drink in the beer garden: the Hammer now has a really good selection of specialty gins along with a great selection of whiskies. Got a table soon after and had a really good T bone and a rib eye steak - excellent service and food despite the busy pub which was really enjoyable.

Visited with a group of friends for my wife's birthday and had a great night. We pre ordered some of the 32oz T bone steaks which were cooked to perfection, others in our party had the burgers which also went down well. The big steaks are not on the menu and we only know about them through friends which is a shame as i am sure more people would be eating them if better advertised.

There is definitely a fine selection of steaks at this place - a few photos of our recent ones. The staff are always happy to cook up special requests so do ask. If I could suggest one thing to the pub is to advertise on one of the blackboards the special steaks available mmmmmm

I have going here since I was small with my parents in the beer garden now me and my husband go especially when the sun is out so we can sit outside and watch our daughter play on the small play area. Always a good display and food available for bonfire night.

We had a lovely meal in here, Chris cooked a lovely steak and went to the effort of ordering a new wine that I wanted to try, which I must say was very nice. The bar staff are great and always friendly, perfect Friday night in a comfortable atmosphere watching the Rugby League. Totally recommend the sweet potato fries... So tasty

Look at this bad boy: 39 oz of best beef - make sure to ask if you want a special steak as they always have them in at the kitchen and cooked really well. 10 out of 10

39oz took two of us to take this down but we managed it - very nice indeed. Not on the usual menu and helps if you ask in advance but always has a nice stock in

Its a good place to eat, has a great field and little play area outside,so in the summer it gets busy.Its traditional pub food at good prices.So won't break the bank.Has some offers on like children eat for £1 on set days.Has a special menu's and drinks a good price.

The pub has recently added to it's repertoire with different home baked cakes each week, which are delicious (and enormous), and reasonably priced. Bravo!

We went for a anniversary meal in December, The food was excellent hot, plentiful and good value. The food tasted fresh and the wedges in the sharing platter tasted like real potatoes not frozen. The service was good and the bar staff were quick at serving. The night we were there there was a karaoke and the pub was full. The pub is clean and the menu has plenty of choice will be going back

Walked in for breakfast after seeing sign open from ten am. Food cooked fresh whilst I waited with a good strong cup of coffee. Had the medium breakfast two of everything. Would definitely recommend

Had a re-union meal here last night. Some of the group were late because of traffic. total flexibility from all the staff and the chef ! Food was lovely and cheap for the size of the meals. highly recommend.

Quality! If you like your meat this is the place to come. Great selection of steaks on the menu and specials reasonably priced and cooked really well just how you want it. Very tasty 10 out of 10

The food was gorgeous, I had he chicken tikka and it was well worth the money. It's such a lovely friendly pub and well worth a visit

Both of us like a nice malt whisky or a bourbon and the Hammer is now building up quite an enviable collection giving a varied and regularly changing choice of lovelies: keep em coming and we'll keep sampling them - the perfect finish to a 16oz steak yummy!

Today We got the wine deal 2 bottles 17 pound , we were offered echo falls or cianti , after first bottle of echo falls far to sweet for my pallet , so asked for the next bottle to be a more dry wine , only to be told £4 more . Oh well my last visit to this pub , Disappointed doesn't come close .

The hammer is a lovely little pub with a superb beer garden with a park and field for the kiddies. Drinks are fairly priced. The food is ok but isn't great but If your looking for a quick cheap lunch then yea but anything more then try else where. Portions aren't great and apart from the pasta (which takes ages!) Most of the menu is just basic frozen food.

Attended a family members birthday party here, BBQ and bouncy castle for the kids, and this huge steak for the birthday boy gifted by the landlord

Visit this place 2-3 times per month and never disappoints. Great pub: always a nice atmosphere and staff are friendly. The food is great with a huge choice and variety of specials including the T bone and 32oz steaks, although I particularly like the gourmet burgers. Drinks are reasonably priced - not many places you can get a bottle of prosecco for less than £12. So glad this is my local! Had husbands 40th here earlier in year and the staff did a fab marquee, buffet and a mean hog roast - all the guests loved it

Always in for a beer or 3, always a welcome and a chat, regular or not.Good little smoking shelter, so I'm happy.

Missed our train into Liverpool at the nearby station 100ms away from the pub so went into the pub to wait, although they stop serving food at 8 they did do us a good couple of pizzas for us to enjoy whilst waiting for the next train, as they cook these after the kitchen is closed. Also, staff very kindly boxed up our left overs for us so we could make our next train but also enjoy our pizzas. Would recommend and defiantly come again!

Whilst working in the area I called in to the Hammer and Pincers in Widnes for lunch. The staff were very friendly and chatty and the food arrived promptly. I had a BBQ Chicken Baguette with Salad and Chips and a few soft drinks, I would definitely recommend it and would certainly call in again next time I'm in the area.

Held my daughters 21st here yesterday... Hired two Marquees from them to host family and friends and hous the Disco/Karaoke. The food we got was fantastic the landlord did a Bbq half for us and must have been put there 4 hours making sure the guest that were arriving at different times all had piping hot food. We had two massive joints of meat one beef and one pork that was cooked for hours so the meat was very juicy and succulent. The meat fell off the ribs they was cooked that well. The landlord went out of his way to make sure the occasion was hassle free and nothing was to much trouble. It's a shame you can't rate 10 as this would defiantly be one. Highly recommended

Came here with colleagues after work. Staff were very friendly and caring. One person had a nut allergy and this was addressed by the staff right away when ordering the food. Felt very welcome and would definitely come again. Highly recommend, very nice place with a great menu!

Lovely restaurant, and good food, the staff are polite and friendly, and they always welcome us to their restaurant as we are now frequent customers. Lovely choice of food on the menu, so every diet is catered for. It is lovely warm and homely.

The place was empty at tea time, but it allowed for a very relaxed atmosphere. Number of meals were homemade. I had chilli and it was quite hot but very nice. Most meals were £6 or £7. Defo worth a punt! Staff were friendly and it was very clean.

visited at Lunchtime as one of our work colleagues was leaving, a mixed bunch of comments from around the table from poor to good ! Hence my average comment, personally my fish and chips were ok but have definitely had better in the area that's for sure, not sure I would visit for an evening meal with family though.

Went with my dad and the place was horrid. It never used to be like that apparantly but the landlord tall stocky guy behind the bar was so uptight he didn't smile say please or thaks. It's so expensive and it's quite clicky I wouldn't go back really. We ate and the food wasn't very good have the mixed grill. For the price I would go to the black horse in cronton much better food for the same price about 10 pounds a dish. And about 3.30 a pint

Went here whilst visiting my nan in widnes on christmas day, had several pints of Guinness and played the jukebox , but sat on my own the whole time whilst watching groups of friends and family chatting together in xmas jumpers. I remember this pub in the late 70s beer garden a lot better then, will not be returning.
