It's a lovely pub. Had some lovely delicious dishes there. Highly recommended

The sign outside Hamiltons says, "Food Available 12 to 10pm." Imagine my disappointment when I went in to the place on Sunday, 22nd September at 8pm. I asked the Barman if the kitchen was open. He told me, he would have to ask a man who happened to be passing by carrying dirty dishes from the dining area. The man carrying the dishes curtly said, "No," with no explanation or apology for inconveniencing me. This is not the first time that I have been refused service at Hamiltons owing to the whims and fancies of individual employees at a time when the kitchen is supposed to be open. The Barman had the good manners to apologise. So I left Hamiltons and went around the corner to The Bailee for a meal. What is the point of Hamiltons advertising outside the times in which food is available; only to inconvenience people who act in reliance of that information. Go to The Bailee, I say. They had the good grace to appreciate the privilege of my custom and offer a welcome that is customary and widely expected in the hospitality sector.

Too bad they are closing their doors this weekend .... For good.:(

Disappointing to say the least as music blaring throughout and staff unsympathetic when asked to lower volume to enable conversation won't be going back anytime soon!

Had a great breakfast. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Good coffee and great Scottish breakfast. You might wait a little bit the atmosphere is lovely and it’s worth it!

The food is good, the vibe with the music is amazing and relaxing. The food was really high quality, and the waiters were really kind and gave us their personal recommendations. The only problem with me is the insane price of 158 pounds for 4 people and that the food took a long time to arrive.

A nice place, but charging a service fee without prior warning or customer approval is a terrible practice and left a very sour taste. I would urge others not to support this establishment until this removed as a matter of policy.

We enjoyed confortable seats on sofas and the good playlist. However, service was incredibly slow, even if the waiter was plaisant and polite, we needed to be fast because we have a Life. AND the mandatory service charges at 7£ is huge for the quality of the service. Moreover, the soup was Lovely (spicy as it should), the chicken salad too. But, the vegerian brie sandwich was not really tasty (we advise to put pesto or yogourt sauce istead of the olive) and, next time, you should ask for the degree of cooking, because it was over cooked (and it was to fat for the burger bun). Finally, nice for effort for presentation and pretty bar, but a lil désappointed.

The atmosphere is lovely, and service from Piers the best we’ve had in a long time. Experience was let down by the food, which was very average. Would have been a 3 star review had it not been the exceptional service of Piers.

Pretty much everything was very undercooked, it was so bad I wondered if the chef was absent. I can't recommend this place to anyone, other than maybe a drink at the bar. 2 stars awarded are for the friendly staff. Comfort, quality of food, value for money are the 3 missing stars.

No one came to our table to ask if we wanted to order a drink for over 10 minutes after seating us. No drinks menu other than alcohol, which is stupid. Food took 40 minutes, and the brioche roll was half cremated inside and tasted like charcoal. Wouldn’t return for a free meal.

Excellent bistro/pub/restaurant, stopped for Sunday brunch. Great full Scottish with a bloody Mary - hit the spot no nicely! Staff excellent and atmosphere pure Sunday vibe. Would recommend. Price seemed in line with similar venues, so whilst not cheap it's great quality and therefore worth it! Update: just visited again and tried the steak sandwich - marvelous (see photo update)! This time round we had our dogs and they were made to feel very welcome too! Every time we are in Edinburgh we'll pop back!

Called in yesterday with my wife and our friend for beer and wine. Had a very pleasant evening and would certainly go back again when we're next in town.

£10 for a pint of Guinness, and a pint of draft coke was rather overpriced . The Gents toilet was disgusting, and the ladies' toilet did not have any toilet paper. We were very disappointed and will not be back. The staff are very polite and attentive but would never eat at this venue!

Had brunch here several years ago and meant to come back ever since. Dropped in for dinner on a Saturday around 5. Burger was lovely, chips were perfect, stole some of my partners chicken pie and it had a perfect crust and flavour. Finished it off with salted caramel cheesecake, proper biscuit base on it. Highly recommended.

Nice bar with great music, anywhere that plays LCD Soundsystem is good with me. Good service and layout, kinda bad I would go back to as a local if I lived in Stockbridge

Super friendly staff, food very tasty

Came here for a few drinks; nice atmosphere and wasn’t too busy for 6/7pm on a Friday. I recommend the non-alcoholic Freeglider Daisy!

Friendly service and lovely food. Despite radiators at full blast, restaurant was cold. We kept our coats on for the meal. Music was probably more suited to the age of the staff than the age of the customers!

First time visiting The Stables and I thought the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

I really tried to love this place, but the experience is repeatedly the same: very basic and tasteless food and I don't really see why it's so popular. There are much better places in Stockbridge. It's also way too noisy as the space is badly designed with nothing to absorb the noise

Waited 15 minutes for drinks order to be taken even though restaurant quiet. Small menu of only 5 options per course. At 7pm there were already items unavailable. Chose halloumi starter for £12 which was tiny. Camembert however was a large portion and should be labelled as a shared. Duck breast unavailable but duck leg offered as alternative- not much meat on a leg and no reduction in price offered, so declined. Ended up with burger which wasn't very big and came with tiny crispy chips too hard to pick up with fork and fish and chips which came with larger but not well cooked chips. Didn't order desserts. Around 8.30 a group came in and were told there were now no £19 burgers but the £34 steak was available. An expensive night out and not the money.

Tried this place after seeing their burgers in the reviews and they certainly didn't disappoint. Delicious. Plus the woman that served us was so warm and welcoming. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a bar & bistro. 👍

Was in today for lunch, mussels and sauce rather cold and chips were greasy and far too big. Disappointed as previous visit was exceptional.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner which we selected from the interesting menu. The food was freshly prepared and arrived at our table piping hot. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the service was first class.

Their Gluten Free Afternoon Tea was delicious, they provided scones, sandwiches and desserts. They also made a lot of effort as we went for a friends birthday and they brought out a ‘happy birthday’ dessert at the end. The staff were attentive and kind. The food was brilliant and the service was great! Will definitely be returning and recommending!

Lovely setting, attentive service and food was nicely cooked. Very special visit to see Santa for my daughter after our meal. It was magical.

Nice place and been back a couple of times. Good food and the set menu isn’t bad value for money. Atmosphere a bit quiet. The barn is quite pretty and the fire is nice. Easy to park. Disappointed I couldn’t just have a scoop of ice cream for dessert as they were adamant I had to have one of the puddings on the set menu so I skipped that course.

I ordered the cheese souffle as a starter. After about twenty minutes the (very nice) waitress apologised and, to my surprise, said the kitchen couldn't manage to do a souffle. I was offered alternatives, but chose just to have the burger that I'd ordered. It was very average ( for nineteen pounds!). The waiter and waitress were excellent, helpful and friendly and the price of the beer I had was knocked off the bill. But surely any, even vaguely professional, kitchen can rustle up a souffle? If not, why not take it off the menu, or explain it's not available when ordering?

Service good food portion and quality poor.We ordered a chicken sandwich x 2 and X 2 wine £50 approx ..The filling for the roll was sparse with little chicken and salad . The wine was good.

Generally the food was good but way too expensive for an afternoon tea and an extortionate service charge. As a group of friends we had booked for our chistmas get together, to have a few glasses of Prosecco and a fun time but the two waitresses were miserable which ruined the atmosphere for us

The veg portions were stingy, uncooked and cold. They gave us a replacement which came after we'd eaten our meat pie. Again, dry, cold and uncooked....more than al dente. We asked for a sauce which took ages to come. Finally, the cheesecake was runny. The DID give us a discount. Very disappointing.

We had a lovely afternoon Sunday lunch. The roast beef was absolutely delicious, and the roast potatoes were the best we’ve ever had in a restaurant. Unfortunately I did request a small birthday cake for my wife’s 60th which didn’t come. However, we will definitely dine there again

Popped in for a wee drink, stayed for a few! Lovely place, decor is gorgeous and so are the staff. All so helpful and well mannered. Can't wait to come back and try food too.

EXCELLENT SUNDAY LUNCH. THE BEEF WAS PINK IN PARTS AS WE LIKE IT. THE BANOFEE DESSERT WAS NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED - IT WAS NOT BABOFEE PIE. OK IN TASTE BUT NOT AS IT WAS DESCRIBED. WILL COME AGAIN.

A Friday lunchtime visit. Lovely staff (Robbie)food (chips and smoked salmon burger were delish)and atmosphere. Mellow, traditional but arty. The bannister rail was surprisingly sticky. Lol.

Sat outside originally but there were kids playing football, went inside and had the mains inside. The roast was over cooked. The potatoes were so dry and burnt that I couldn't cut into them. The waitress then tried to charge me too much for two meals. Awful , won't be returning.

Booked for Sunday evening and Sunday lunch menu offered. Main course standard roast which tasted nice but not exceptional. First course presented well and tasty. Wine selection good and very nice English wine drunk.

very good champagne cream tea, service was also good, we sat inside as it was very hot and we didn't want to attract wasps. Not sure of the cost as was a present from friends. Sitting out with drinks would be very nice as it looked peaceful.

Super restaurant, des plats simples mais très réussis avec de bons produits, on y propose aussi d'excellents cocktails. Prix corrects. Ambiance très chouette avec une déco très sympa. Service au top, souriant, fond musical très agréable, et pour ne rien gâcher le lieu accepte les chiens :)

This is a great place to chill and finish you evening. We enjoy the drinks they make and the food is really great. The atmosphere is wonderful and Hamilton became a daily visit for us whilst in Stockbridge.

Food came out at different times so we weren’t eating at the same time. When the mains came we was served uncooked fish and burgers that seems to be seared on the outside but raw on the inside!! We was going to the theatre next door so didn’t have time to wait for the food to be redone which meant some of the group didn’t get to eat. We got no apologies or deductions they still applied the service charge despite the poor service and quality of what was served. Which we removed ourselves when we paid. We had 2 tables with a total of 12 guests none of whom will be going back!!!

Firstly all my scores are low as we did not get the opportunity of actually experiencing eating at the restaurant. We booked a table for 7.00pm on a Sunday to celebrate our wedding anniversary on the recommendation of a friend. Having checked out their website and sample menu we were really looking forward to our evening out. When we arrived we were surprised at how quiet it was and upon being seated we’re given the Sunday lunch / roast set menu. When we asked for the dinner menu we were told that there was only the set Sunday lunch / roast menu available with limited options as they had run out of food. On double checking their website there was no indication or information that this would be the case, and had there been we would have gone elsewhere for our special dinner out. The staff were very apologetic and did say that they would speak to their management about amending the website.

Had drinks and dinner here tonight and were pleasantly surprised with everything we had! For drinks we had a Negroni and Aperol Spritz. Dinner was Chicken Confit and Pork Belly. The chicken confit was deliciously rich and paired perfectly with the sweetness of the corn. Pork belly was perfectly cooked and curry sauce was just sweet enough to cut the fat of the pork belly and not too spicy. There was not a kids menu but our son devoured the sausage roll which was available on the main menu. Service was very pleasant and we would be glad to go back again! Many were there for drinks and the atmosphere was upbeat and fun. Can’t go wrong with this one!

Very nice place to spend an evening, very pleasant inside. The only downside is the loud music that sort of ruins the atmosphere.

Visited tonight (4 pers). Just a few drinks with family The service was excellent, very friendly and courteous. The food looked delicious so well be back for another visit.

Pre mixed cocktails which were very average, one shot of alcohol for two cocktails, seemed a bit stingy apart from the price which was excessive. We didn't eat but the food looked good.

Booked for Sunday lunch. When we arrived were given a menu which is £35 for three courses, and no option for anything else or to have fewer courses. We only wanted a quick lunch with the kids so left and went somewhere else.

A great welcome & staff responded to our request to adjust the seating. Our orders were taken quickly & our preferences accommodated. Delicious food. Thank you.

Whilst the cakes and scones were ok the sandwiches were poor . Just basic supermarket white bread with a scraping of butter and a slice of cheese and thick fat and gristle on the beef taking up nearly half of the finger sandwiches for £28 a head is not really acceptable. Staff were polite and apologetic but when asked about the supermarket basic bread just told us that that’s what they use. They did give us a generous discount but we will not be recommending .

We didn't get food but I'm sure it would have been excellent based on the warm reception my wife and in-laws received when we arrived for drinks. Cosy layout and great choice of drinks. Wee nooks to hide away in and well laid out. Will be back to taste the food, so watch this space.

The waitresses were lovely. For a sweet I choose the choux buns,plural, when it turned up it was only one bun, which I do think, was at least a week old. To make matters worse, there was a service charge added to the bill. My friend who I was with , was adamant that I kept quiet and didn't show her up. I won't return.
