We were a group of 5 who had had our booking cancelled at a local golf club at fairly short notice for this time of year - presumably they had a large booking so we got outed. This place kindly accommodated us. The front of house was excellent throughout - attentive but not obtrusive. The meal was gorgeous in every respect - well done chef and crew. One of our group was diary and gluten intolerant and they came up trumps for her too. We were left after our meal having coffee and chatting for a good while after even though service as such had finished - much appreciated as one of the party had travelled to be there with us. So many places want you gone the moment coffee is finished. Well golf clubs loss - we shan't contemplate them again but we will certainly be back here in the New Year.

As already said bhy others, what a little gem of a hotel. my daughter and I stayed for one night to attend a funeral in Grimsby. Both rooms were on the large size and well presented and equipped and very clean. Dinner was exceptional as was breakfast with a large choice for both. Breakfast is freshly cooked with toast being cooked in the kitchen and brought to your table. Wine at dinner was the normal price for a restaurant, nothing we had heard of but the quality was first rate. Staff were all friendly, cheerful and attentive but not obtrusive. Little Things that impressed us was Andrex toilet paper and linen serviettes for both meals. Coming from the south it is also unbelievable value. Will definitely use again if in the area.

My brother gave us a weekend away here so four of us spent two nights DBB this last weekend. It was a lovely break, very comfortable room, clean tidy and presentable with a good size. TV and tea and coffee facilities. The restaurant has good quality food with excellent portions, the waiter Alan is so helpful and friendly. Sunday morning breakfast was busy and Alan by himself, he needed Simone to help him at the busy time but he still gave a really good service to everyone.

An attractive and somewhat secluded venue making it pretty much a private event. Arrived for the Wedding which was at midday but check in wasn’t until 14:00, no drama and checked in later that afternoon. Room allocated was clean and well presented however the toilet flush was found to be broken. A quick trip back to reception and a new room was welcomed and issued without any fuss whatsoever. The second room was even better and to a very high standard. The Staff were attentive and offered a professional service. The Wedding went without any hassle and a great time was had by all.The only negative comment I can make was the breakfast The following morning was not as good as the rest of the experience.

We went for a meal for Mothers Day & with my parents. We were very disappointed. Did not get a bread basket with our starters, even though other tables were, and at no point through the meal did anyone come & ask us if everything was OK. We all had beef for our main course which was actually inedible. I actually can't believe the chef thought that was OK to put on customers plates. The veg was OK but nothing amazing. I did say to the waitress when she came to clear the plates that we weren't happy. She then went & got another waitress which I had to explain to again. And then she told the manageress who came over and apologised and I explained the problem again. So that's 3 times! They did reduce the bill but very disappointed. Not likely to go back.

We booked a table for 15 people, for Sunday lunch for a retirement celebration. Everyone was warmly welcomed and offered drinks until every one had arrived and we were all ready to be seated. The choice for all 3 courses was great, with something for everyone. One guest was even offered a different vegetarian option to the one listed on the menu, and our 'gluten free' guest was told everything was ok for her (apart from the yorkshire pud). This was quite unexpected but a lovely surprise, unlike many places were your options are very limited. It was a fantastic meal, across all 3 courses - everyone enjoyed their food. Service was very good too, with the right amount of checking that we were ok, asking if we needed further drinks or the wine to be poured/topped up. There was attention to detail, with no rush to be finished - we felt welcome. The bill was so reasonable. Highly recommended. Thanks to everyone at Roosters!

We came here on bank holiday Monday for a family meal, for my dads birthday. We’re not the easiest family to serve, a lot of picky, indecisive eaters, but nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. I didn’t catch the girls name who served us at first, but she was lovely. Ashley was an absolute gentleman and we could not fault his service. He was attentive, friendly and a real credit to the restaurant (give him a raise ). The food was lovely, compliments to the chef. We had the most delicious and quirky antipasti we’ve ever had (and we’ve had many from authentic Italian restaurants). The fillet steak was TO DIE FOR. It literally melted in my mouth, and even when we had a slight issue with my dad’s meal, they insisted that they wouldn’t charge for it, which we really appreciated. We will definitely be back and will recommend to friends and family. Such a quaint little restaurant in a beautiful location. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Relaxed ambiance, space between tables, staff who smile and prompt service make this a place to come back to. Interesting menu from which we chose broccoli & stilton soup, sea bass, prawn cocktail & burger. full marks for the first but the prawn cocktail was served in a long stem glass; you practically had to stand to eat it. But it was a good eat. The burger was disappointing. Nice meat but bland and lacking in texture. I prefer a little chopped onion and red pepper to break up the meat, a sprinkling of breadcrumbs and an egg to bind. Never mind, I'll try something else next time.

. . I am only writing this review because the management have not had the courtesy to reply to two emails we have sent. They have been given almost a month to reply. It would appear that once they have your money then their interest in you ceases.First of all, this review is about our private function and not the actual restaurant or hotel. I previously submitted a review on the restaurant which was very good, but what is to follow in this review is not. The room was hired for a 70th birthday party with a fork buffet. We had arranged the menu beforehand and thought we knew what we would be getting. First mistake! We had ordered mini yorkshires with roast beef. The yorkshires were large ones (frozen variety) and the roast beef was in gravy and was very tough. There wasn't enough salmon or chicken to feed even half of the people present, the vegetable kebabs were a disgrace with the minimum amount of vegetables on them and they were cold. I have to have a very low fat diet so the prawns I had requested came on two skewers and were cold. My dessert was given to me at the same time! The rest of the desserts were put out at the same time as the mains and the "fresh fruit" salad still had lumps of ice in it.I would say that the majority of this food hadn't seen the hands of a chef and was of the type you would buy from any supermarket. There is nothing wrong with that if everything else is first class, but it wasn't.At the beginning of the night, when the food was being brought out, there was a loud crash followed by another one. Unfortunately I didn't follow this up as I was meeting our guests etc so don't know what happened. I have asked the management if some of our buffet was lost in this incident but haven't had a reply. There are other things too, but I think I have highlighted the main points. So, to sum up, if booking this venue ask lots of questions and make sure there is a proper chef there on the night. Also, don't expect a response to any complaints you may have.

We opted for the Friday haddock, chips and mushy peas deal, which is two meals plus a bottle of house wine (which was not bad at all!) for £20. The food and service were both excellent; though it was quiet at this time in the main restaurant, the kitchen and wait staff still clearly worked well together. Compliments to the chef on cooking and presenting such lovely food. I doubt that this value-for-money is available anywhere else in the area. The other menu options looked interesting enough to tempt us to return in the New Year.My only criticism of the evening was this: We were a party of two, first in for a 7pm reservation and were seated by the waitress. Ten minutes later a loud party of four arrived and were promptly seated right next to us. One of them hit me on the head and shoulder as she removed her coat. Any chance of a quiet, intimate meal with a private conversation was gone. I don't understand why the waitress would sit the group next to us when she has the whole restaurant to choose from. It didn't spoil the evening - this was our first visit and we'll certainly return - but it did take the edge off what could've been a perfect experience. (Mysteriously, the next group of four were seated at the other end of the restaurant!) So wait staff, just a polite request, please take this factor into consideration when seating people?

The food was delivered hot with military precision and was beautifully cooked. Drinks were over-priced which is usually always the case at hotels where there is a captive audience-this was disappointing but not unexpected. The room was spacious, tastefully decorated with all the usual amenities and a huge king size bed. It was very impressive, our only regret being that we didn't book for an extra night.Breakfast was home cooked to order and was excellent. No skimping on portions. We arrived on Saturday night (13/8/16) for a meal at the Roosters restaurant. It seemed busy as there was a wedding on. We entered the restaurant and was surprised at how quiet it was for a Saturday night. We were eventually led to our table near to the window. The window was open and there were people outside smoking so the smell of cigarette smoke was all too evident. I shut the window and sat down. It was then I noticed that the table was still dirty from the previous diners. Not a good start! We ordered our drinks and main meal. We seemed to wait around half an hour, which was strange given it was so quiet. When our meals eventually came I was disappointed to say the least. My wife ordered the haddock and chips and although nice commented that it was no better than purchasing from the local chip shop. I ordered the rack of lamb which came in the guise of 3 small lamb chops. The vegetable compliment was poor and consisted of a bowl of green beens! I also ordered a glass of red wine when my meal arrived but had finished my food before it duly arrived. We complained when the waitress asked if everything was ok and got a discount. This used to be one of our favourite restaurants and we could always guarantee a really nice meal. Sadly we won't be coming again which is a shame because we really enjoyed coming here. Is it a coincidence that the Head chef seems to have left?

We stayed there two nights and were very pleased with it on most levels.High points include the breakfast which was stellar, though would have been good to have beans as well on the full English. We ate there the night before and the meal was very good in the evening as well. The wine choice was not bad. As to the bedroom, aircon would have been appreciated. We slept with the window open (a curious experience for a Londoner on the ground floor!) and the overhead fan was constantly on. The heat made sleeping difficult. Also, the water pressure on our shower was a bit poor. But it's an overall experience and rating - and we loved the place. Lovely staff, excellent service, good food and a lovely secluded spot.

Couldn't fault it one bit was absolutely gorgeous , what was even better my partners new boss was across the room saw us come in and sent over a bottle of champagne! Unfortunately we was so full we asked if we could order our pudding to the room which was fine but we had too much to drink and completely forgot ! But the next morning we had a gorgeous breakfast so much to choose from made fresh ! 5* will definitely be going again!!

Roosters has a beautiful country setting, in what appear to be cleverly repurposed farm buildings. Decorations and table settings are elegant and reserved.Four of us went for lunch one Friday and were the only diners. The only weakness of the extensive and inventive menu was the lack of provision for vegetarians, who actually had no main course choice - just one item. For the rest of us, the choice at each course was good, and every course was well presented and cooked. Needless to say, the service was very good! Good too, to see a choice of non-alcoholic beers for the drivers.Criticisms? Aside from the veggie issue, just one. However you call it, and however tasty it is, a pie is not a pie without pastry sides and base. So a plate of beef, mushroom and ale stew, presented with a slice of pastry lid doesn't do it for me...Desserts were yummy too, and the coffee was good. I'd like to go again, but this time for dinner, perhaps staying over on one of the special deals offered...

This time I was on the first floor and if the weather was not so bad I would probably had a drink standing on the private balcony. The food in the restaurant was exceptional in the evening as was the breakfast.I have not had the luxury of exploring the area but it is very quiet and no traffic noise at all. great sleep quality. Can't wait to have more business in the area so I can return

Having read the reviews we were perhaps anticipating poorer service than usual, although this was absolutely not the case. We were attended to by Stacey who was nothing but helpful, polite and friendly. She knew the menu and the wine list well and made some good recommendations. Our party of four chose different starters, mains and desserts and absolutely every last bit was delightful and exceptional. Presentation was brilliant and innovative on all courses, especially with the desserts (which were dressed by our waitress personally) and having taken a liking to a particular item on the Antipasti Platter, we were even given a bowl full of the hand made item as an extra when we commented on how great they were. The surroundings were beautiful inside and out, the food was exceptional and the service was attentive - this place far exceeds anywhere we have ever been within the area, without a doubt. Very well priced and great value for money, worth every penny :)

Our host for the weekend had booked dinner - my turn to pay - at Hall Farm. This was a disappointment compared to the Oaklands Comfy Duck, where we had been the previous evening. My rating was *** but my wife convinced me it should be just **. The food was OK - I was happy with the antipasti misti starters, the steak pie (my wife had pork belly) and the crème brulée . Neither Tim nor Ruth rated the starter high - not the dessert. But the service was awful. Nobody seemed to be in charge and nobody seemed to be allocated to our table. We had to ask to be served; we had to ask for the dessert menu; the starter was ages coming, and when we complained there were no apologies or smiles. When I said ‘pity about the service’ as I paid they blamed the kitchen - for not giving us the menu???

Breakfast was simply one of the best I have ever had, and I highly recommend the smoked haddock with poached egg, something I simply would not cook at home. The hotel is set in a lovely location just a short trip from Grimsby with easy access to the Lincolnshire Wolds.

We stayed at the hotel which I have reviewed else where and found to be excellent. The same sadly could not be said of the restaurant where the food I had was not so good and a tad overpriced for what we got. Having said about the quality , I have seen other other reviews and being the only one in a party of four that had a naff meal (both courses) I may have gone on a bad day. The other three all had according to them very good meals. The staff were friendly and efficient and in fairness did apologise and removed the cost of the offending the meal from the bill. The breakfasts as I have commented on previously were inconsistent but the crucial test would be, would we go back and I find that I probably would.

The surroundings are comfortable, the menu is varied, and even when there has been a party of 12 of us the service was outstanding. We have always received a warm welcome and have always had an attentive waitress. The food is reasonably priced and their "Fish (Grimsby of course) & Chips with Mushy peas never fail to please. Over the years we have had a variety of dishes and I can state that without exception all have been of quality and well presented.I have heard from a couple of people that they were disappointed with the meal and the service, but remember the old addage "One man's meat is another mans poison", you simply can not please every one all of the time. This establishment is a "Definite Must Try" and should be on any locals list to visit.

First things first, STAY AWAY! Me and my partner booked our wedding at Hall Farm last year for July 2013. Me and my other half was so excited looking around the venue and were looking forward to spending our perfect day at this establishment. Due to me falling pregnant and the baby due in July 2013 we had to move the date. Me thinking Hall Farm would be very understanding of this, I was VERY wrong! After the New Year, I contacted Hall Farm and asked to move my special day to just a few months later so our baby could spend this day with us, they said this was fine, and I said I would get back to them. Unfortunately other wedding organisations who I’d already booked, didn't have this date available so we contacted Hall Farm again and asked if they had dates available in July 2014, where they said this was fine, so I reserved the date. Whilst contacting other organisations, I received a snotty email from Hall Farm saying our deposit couldn't be moved, after agreeing it would be fine. We are talking £500 pounds here. Then, to be even more cheeky, they said they would need a further £500 to secure a date in July 2014. From this information I was VERY upset so my partner called back as it was starting to become a big issue which obviously isn’t good for a pregnant lady. He insisted in speaking to the owner, who was very rude and abrupt and said many times “that’s not my problem”. This was my big day ruined. After dealing with Kim and Matthew the owner I couldn’t even think of anything worse than getting married here, with these two people organisation my big day. I wouldn’t even let them organise a child’s party. If this is how they treated me before my big day, then how would they of treated me on my wedding day. After 7 months of constant emails and phone calls to Hall Farm, I have now happily booked with another wedding venue, who also told me they have had similar issues with other couples who have originally booked with Hall Farm. I have never written a review on Tripadvisor, but this experience warranted it.

Took our parents here for Sunday lunch and wasn't disappointed. The room is very modern and decorated lovely. We ordered 4 main meals, 3 Sunday roasts and a steak and mushroom pie, I opted for the beef, I got 2 large slices of meat 3 roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding they bought out a large platter of vegetables plenty for four people and a bowl of new potatoes the pie came with chips plenty for them to be shared, all the food tasted lovely, the vegetables were fresh and cooked perfectly. Three of us went for desserts 2 white chocolate and raspberry trifles and a pear and almond tart with ice cream, both were lovely. The trifle was not a traditional one but more like a trifle stack and tasted wonderful. All in all the meal and the service where great and reasonable priced too, we paid for meals plus 2 wines 3 pints and 1 j20 just over £70, I wasn't sure how much the Sunday roast would be but it was only £8.50, which is less than you pay in some pubs for far microwave food. Would definitely return.

We ordered starters and I had ordered gammon egg and chipsfor the main., an hour later the starters arrived. The main arrived 1 and a 1/2 hours later despite complaining to the staff, when it eventually came the gammon was overcooked/ burnt one side and the egg was hard and looked like a frisby with the same consistency. I sent it back and 50 minutes later it arrived again, by now everyone else had finished so I cancelled the meal and asked to see the manager. She eventually came and was very apologetic she deducted my meal from the bill, 'nice of her' and we left. Won't be going there again.

We visited to commemorate my Stepfather’s 80th Birthday after he passed away in 2022. He was born in Cleethorpes and as a child looked through the windows of this hotel with his brother saying that one day they would stay here. They both lived to experience staying here, and it is now our privilege to carry on this tradition. The hotel is beautiful, traditional and spotlessly clean. We dined in the restaurant and found the food and service impeccable. We look forward to returning next year…. And every year after.

My husband and I arrived at 1250 to be greeted with “have you booked?” As passing trade but living local we hadn’t realised you had to book and we were informed by a member of staff that they were really popular so tables get booked quickly but she would take a look. We noticed two tables free both seating 4, one in the corner and one set inbetween two other tables. The member of staff informed us that the corner table we had placed our things on was booked at 1:30 but we could have the one set inbetween the other tables and the one where everyone knocked into when passing. I told her we would be done quickly anyway so not to worry. My latte came and I had drunk it before my cake arrived, my husbands’ Americano was very weak but was hot, his cheesecake was tasty all the same and my Victoria sponge equally tasty. Within 15mins a table of 6 was cleared and made available and the table that we originally had chosen was offered as a “choice of where would you like to sit” to customers who had booked. We have eaten in some lovely places and had coffee in some nice settings but have never felt as uncomfortable or unwelcome before. I would say that if passing trade isn’t welcome then put bookings only on your page would be helpful, so customers who feel It would be lovely to drop by and support a local business don’t.
