We had the pleasure of eating here on the off chance on route to our accommodation in Looe. Was impressed enough to return a few days later. On both occasions the traditional menu was cooked to perfection. I would especially recommend the Steak, Fish & chips, Hunters Chicken and the Scampi dishes. All cooked fresh, to order, with no long waiting period and all dishes arriving together. The Landlady Kirsty, waitress Tracey and young Chef Chloe(?) were all extremely skilled at their respective roles and very welcoming and friendly. No request was too much. The setting is 'cosy' as part date back to 15th Century, so don't expect mid cons, but rather lots of wood and cushions. I would happily eat there every evening, but would have to size up my dress size at the end of my holiday!! Although, we did not have room for desserts, I hear the Brownies are lush. So if you are anywhere nearby, give them a chance to impress you. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

First time visitors. We had not booked but were given a table despite the establishment having a large family booking a short time after we arrived. Very relaxed atmosphere. We were greeted and served by Kelsea, who was lovely and very attentive. Food was very well cooked and servings were large. The Scotch eggs in particular were perfectly made. Very good value for money. We enjoyed our meal and will definitely return with our family. Highly recommend a visit.

Second year staying here for tunes in the park weekend. As always clean comfortable room. Was over the moon we got room 4 same as last year. The food is absolutely delicious and really reasonable priced. The staff are so friendly and i was incredibly touched they remembered us from the year before. Massive special thanks to kate who went above and beyond her job role to not only make sure we had a pleasant stay but that we got home safely from the festival. Using her own time to make sure we got there and back due to taxi fully booked and the country roads being far to dangerous to walk. I can't wait to come back for pie fest!

We had an all round fantastic experience at The Halway House on Saturday night. The customer service was exemplary from booking a table to paying the bill. When calling we were advised that they were having a pie and ale festival, which meant some changes to the menu for the evening. This was alright by us as there was still plenty of choice available. On arrival the staff kindly found us a quiet nook to accomodate my older father-in-law. From there our 2 attentive servers, Izzy and Viv looked after us with patience, professionalism and good humour, even laughing at my father-in-laws predictable jokes. The food was also outstanding with cooking skills and evident care taken in the kitchen a big step up from usual pub dinners. Burgers, made with local beef and perfectly cooked to medium as requested, were juicy and full of flavour. Accompanying fries were deliciously crisp as was calamari, scampi we had for starters and we've not had better halloumi outside of Greece. Puddings - a white chocolate and lemon tart balanced perfectly with a generous scoop of blackcurrant sorbet - were also excellent! I can't wait to return to try dishes from the full menu. Getting 'basics' right is not 'basic' at all. If it was, all pubs would be this good. The Halway House is a cut above in every respect.

This is a nice small pub with welcoming, friendly staff. We popped in for an early evening meal, we were asked if we would prefer to sit in the bar as it would be quieter. Having a hearing impairment, this was very thoughtful and much appreciated. The staff were really attentive and fun, our food arrived in reasonable time, we weren't in any hurry. Unfortunately, the standard of the food did let the place down. My cheese and bacon burger was cremated to the degree that is was burnt solid on the outside (I'm sure burger's are not meant to be crunchy!) a shame, as it looked home made so should have tasted good. My wife had a chicken a leek pie served with vegetables. It was a good size portion but, didn't taste great. They advertise special 'pie' evenings, so you might expect maybe homemade or at least advertising locally made. A nice place to pop in for a drink, maybe we just had an off day with the food?

The Halfway House is a place of individuality, character and hospitality where we enjoyed generous breakfasts and really good dinners. Our room was comfortable (and not over the bar), with a modern en suite bathroom. The only downside would be for people with limited mobility as access to guest rooms is up a steep flight of stairs. Kirsty, Lloyd and their staff are friendly and helpful and the pub bar is lively with lots going on, there is also a small lounge. Outside there is a bar and big tables and benches for the better weather in a big garden set amongst trees. The Halfway House has improved immensely since we lived in Polbathic 50 years ago, Kirsty and Lloyd have plans to make it even better. There is limited on road parking outside and a village car park diagonally across the junction. For electric car users, it's worth knowing that, just a few miles en route to the west country at Buckfastleigh is Strawberry Fields, just off the A38 a multiple rapid points charging station.

Holidaying for 7 nights locally, we were recommended this pub. We popped in for a beer day one and felt very welcome so we booked the set dinner on NYE. Great night, although our 18 month old wasn’t happy. Kirsty the LL offered to take her for a walk so we could enjoy our meal. Visited again on New Year’s Day as the food was so good, this time we had the roast and again the chef smashed it out the park. They can be justifiably proud of this new addition to their roster of fine draught ales . All in all this pub and restaurant is well worth a visit . Friendly staff , great food which is reasonably priced .. and like I said a superb range of well kept proper cask conditioned ales which are often sadly lacking in the majority of hostelries .
