At this time of year they just serve simple tea and coffee at reasonable prices considering how hard it must be to get supplies up to the café. a welcome break on the way up or down.

It’s on a mountain path do people really expect a small place like this to have a toilet for public use. (100’s of visitors a day). This is my third trip up snowdon and always stop here on the way down for a hot chocolate. The service is friendly and drinks and snacks are very welcome. The lady serving is welcoming and the service is good. No seating inside now but there are plenty of comfortable rocks to choose from.

Quite rude service, my partner asked for three hot chocolates and the lady never opened her mouth😅 not even to say how much it was! Unfortunately the weather changed quite drastically on our way up and it was raining and very windy and we couldn’t shelter to have our drinks so the strong wind was blowing my hot drink off my cup as it comes with no lid! Very odd place!!

The Halfway Cafe is a handy location to visit if you want any refreshment on your journey up or down Snowdon. It is on the Llanberis route and is at about the Halfway point on your journey. The cafe is not far from Halfway station on the Snowdon Mountain railway. At this point the station is above you and you may see trains passing by depending on timings. At the cafe you cannot go inside but service is provided from a window. You can get hot and cold drinks as well as snacks like barra brith and pot noodles. Sadly there are no toilets here so make sure you go before you start climbing or before you leave the summit. One thing they do encourage you to do which is part of the whole ethos of the national park is to take your rubbish with you so make sure you have space in your pocket or backpack for an empty cup and a wrapper and dispose of it responsibly.

An absolute life saver! After the "leader" of our walking group, thought it would be hilarious to take the longest path up to the summit and then tell us that he had "forgotten" to bring more than 1 litre of water for us to drink. I almost resorted to drinking from a small stream on the path downwards. Almost passing out from thirst, I reached the cafe and bought a huge bottle of water, which was swiftly drank. Thank God for the half way cafe!

Just a massive thanks to the lady that runs this cafe, sold us pain killers after closing, and gave my partner sticks to help her, then walked by us saw her struggling and turned in to a superhero on a quad bike to save the day,all of this was above and beyond and still then went the extra mile taking us to our car in her own personal time, diamond of a lady one of which is very rare , treat her well she deserves it :)

When your cold and very very tired having walked to the summit of Snowdon seeing the little hut is a becon of joy; I’m laughing at the other reviews that seem shocked that you don’t have mains waters and sewage (toilets) half way up a mountain but that’s townies for you. For me it offered a selection of hot beverages, cold drinks and simple snacks reasonably priced and the lady who was serving was friendly and chatty. I paid £2.30 for a very hot strong cup of tea and my joy was boundless

We saw the lady who runs the Halfway Cafe on her way to work - on a quad bike going up the llanberis trail. Not a bad commute (well on a sunny day). We stopped here on our way back down Snowdon after a successful climb and enjoyed a cup of tea and a snack and savoured the views of Snowdonia. The lady was very friendly and this is a lovely spot to rest, replenish and just enjoy Snowdonia.

Having climbed Ben Nevis in August where there are NO facilities (in fact like the majority of ‘big hills’ I’ve ever climbed) I was astonished to see a cafe half way up Snowdon and simply took it for what it is... a bonus! I’m sorry but if you are planning to climb one of the highest peaks in the country, please just be prepared. Proper clothing and footwear, enough food and warms drinks should you need them. And if you need to use the bathroom... do what people would do anywhere else. You have no ‘right’ to be provided with toilet facilities! As it was this was a great pit stop for us half way up. We got a really tasty hot chocolate which set us up for the rest of the climb in the fog and the lady couldn’t have been nicer. She even took our ‘Scottish currency’ unlike so many other places we encountered that week. I for one and thankful and grateful for your presence!

I can not believe there are any negative comments of this wonderful cafe, the lady who runs it is a star, before anyone critises this place image trying to run a cafe that is half way up a mountain, the logistics of supply and just getting to work. For all the thousands of vistors that descend on Snowdon in the summer, many will go up ill prepared, and many newbies will go up the Llanberis path and for those that need refreshments this cafe not only provides it but is a great place to stop and have a drink with a fantastic view.

Was told in no uncertain terms that toilet was not for public use and to squat behind a rock. 73 year old lady cannot squat behind a rock. The TV programme currently on is showing the relevant lady staff member trying to be nice and friendly. Do not be fooled. She is not nice and friendly but rude and arrogant. It is quite sad, that a 'cafe' in such a prime spot wastes that opportunity. The place is cold & bleak by the very nature of its location, but whilst the walkers are by their nature a happy bunch, the welcome here is far from a welcome! Signs stating 'no toilets' all over the place and 'do not dare to eat your own stuff here' There used to be a dodgy basic toilet out the back available quite rightly to customers who spent a minimum amount in the cafe. There is clearly a better WC there now, just not for customers!! It maybe that waste disposal is a huge issue, so there are restrictions on its use but I am sure a more friendly sign could be used to explain that!

Yes, this is a tiny stone building halfway up the Llanberis trail on the way to the summit of Snowdon. Is it pricey? Yes is it warm and dry? Yes. Maybe if all the ill-prepared overweight, grumpy charity ramblers had prepared themselves for this walk they would not need to block out every table here. This is not a posh place, but please do not have a go off this place just because you are too lazy carrying your own tube of Pringles up the ‘mountain’. Yes, with more than 100,000 walkers on the mountain every year sadly offering free toilets simply aren’t doable. My 8 year old son and I visited this lovely little cafe on a windswept, drizzle soaked assent up the Llanberis Path. It such a relief to get into the warmth and have a delicious very chocolatey hot chocolate, some bara brith and a welsh cake. Both were absolutely fresh and delicious. The lady who served us was very pleasant and friendly. I noticed there were some home made dishes, including a leak soup and I would love to return to try them. It must be a real challenge running this establishment, as it is not directly on the railway line, from which I believe is how it is supplied. However by the time I got to here I was regretting only bringing water so nipped in for some Lucozade which was only £1.70 (which I thought was excellent value considering it's halfway up a mountain). I'd read reviews saying that there were signs saying that toilets were only for customers but there was a huge queue for them; there's no way they were all customers and the staff didn't seem to mind so that seemed fine. So, some of you expect to walk up a mountain without sufficient food and liquids, your dog in tow, maybe some rubbish you can't be bothered to take all the way up and down again......and then have the audacity to criticise a cafe which won't accommodate all of those needs. Especially bearing in mind it's remote location!!! Read the positive posts and you may gather that this place is a basic Cafe serving basic snacks and refreshments.......the price if which are dictated by the logistics involved in serving them in the first place. If you find the staff/owner to be rude (which I never have) it's probably due to the fact that she gets asked questioned by people all day long as to why they can't leave their rubbish behind, or bring their dogs in etc etc. I know that would drain the best of my customer service abilities!!!

This cafe is half way up a mountain catering for 1000s of often cold/wet walkers who want something quickly. It is in a tiny building (it is in the national park on an iconic route so couldn't expand as wouldn't get permission), it has no mains water, sewage etc. The tap water they have is not drinking water so they can't give drinking water away. All litter has to be carried down (so of course they can't let you leave rubbish you didn't buy there with them). It costs an unimaginable ammount to get the septic tank emptied regularly (bad enough if you live in a normal place-imagine what it is like up snowdon) so of course they can't let you use the loo if you aren't a customer. I know there are no other loos (this is a mountain) but it is not this farmer/cafe owners responsibility to provide ammenites for the 10s of thousands who climb snowdon regularly. It is expensive (everything has to be carried by hand up a mountain). It is not high end (I don't think you go there for that). This cafe is brilliant at what it does-supply quick warming cups of tea/chocolate bars etc to cold travellers. It is not a replacement for being independent and self sufficent. People should not be travelling without food/drink etc assuming they can go to a cafe. This is a mountain. The staff do there very best in difficult circumstances. Please be nice.

Having climbed the Llanberis path on what can only be described as atrocious weather. we had cause to stop in the Café on the way back down, having despatched some hypothermic youths down on the train. A cup of hot chocolate was required to warm up for the descent in the driving rain. The service was by a young lady was fine and the drink was adequately priced for halfway up a mountain. I had cause to use the toilet which was free as I purchased a drink. What happened next disgusted me, a young couple were challenged by an older member of staff as they were about to use the loo. She demanded 50p each off them even though they had purchased goods on the way up and they still had the drinks packaging in their pocket as evidence. After a period of discussion which was less than friendly they purchase a twix in order to use the loo. sometime later she reappeared and shouted across the café whichis not that big, have you paid for that twix? which they evidently did. Her attitude and customer service was appalling. Yes I know its halfway up a mountain, Yes I know the septic tank needs emptying, yes I know there are costs involved. manners though cost nothing, and customer service is supposed to be pretty high on the agenda for an establishment that deals with the public.

Okay, so I'll explain a few things about the Halfway House Café.1) It's halfway up a mountain.2) Everything that's sold in the café has to be taken up/down there by the owners (look at their footwear, they wear hiking boots).3) It's halfway up a mountain.4) The owner works there 7 days a week.5) It's halfway up a mountain.6) The toilet is not mains. It's a septic tank, which has to be emptied. Which has a cost implication (especially half way up a mountain). People who decide to put sanitary items down the toilet block it, hence why it's sometimes out of order.7) It's halfway up a mountain. So before anyone decides to downgrade their rating because of 'the rules', or because they don't give out water (because they can transport enough drinking water up for everyone yeah?), or because they don't allow dogs (really? You're moaning about that? So you can take your dog into every café then?) remember that YOU'RE HALFWAY UP A MOUNTAIN!!!The food was simple, but very welcome. The homemade soup was described as delicious, and just what people needed to get them up to the summit. It wasn't overpriced compared to other café's or vending machines. It was also cheap compared to the facilities at the summit (which are transported by the train). So if you want somewhere that will serve simple, much needed refreshments, somewhere warm and dry to sit, half way up/down your ascent/descent at a fairly reasonable price. Then this is for you.If you want anything more than this, then don't stop here.

First of all - it's half way up a mountain no frills but absolutely brilliant! So friendly, amazed at the range of snacks/drinks/ice lollies available. Yes it's 50p to use the loos if not a paying customer but they have to cover costs and if your pockets are that tight but a Mars Bar!!

We stopped here on the way down from the top of Snowdon. The lady who served us was very chatty and friendly. It was a hot day and it was nice to be able to rest our legs and have a cup of tea before continuing down to Llanberis. I don't see anything wrong in the cafe charging non customers to use the loo and saying you can't eat your own food there. It's a business not a free service and I'm sure a lot of people are glad it's still there!

What do you expect - half way up Snowdon! The two staff were very friendly and showed immense patience on a very busy bank holiday Monday. Food and drinks reasonably priced and looked good (especially to tired walkers) and the slushy machine was constantly in use on such a hot day. It's perfectly reasonable for walkers to pay a nominal amount to use the (privately run) toilets.

Firstly I would start by saying those that have put negative remarks need help in understanding how difficult it must be to run a café halfway up a mountain side what dopes they must be - get a life! The lady was very welcoming and £2 for a cup of tea isn't over the top when compared to Costa and the like where the happy ones probably drink. Yes it's basic but what else can you expect halfway up the mountain - Thanks for being there

The lady who runs this gets dropped off by the Snowdon railway and can only carry supplies and stock with her. Add in the fact that there's no electricity and she does pretty well. If you're expecting normal cafe service you'll be disappointed. However, if you're realistic and want a hot cuppa and something to eat on the way up or down the Llanberis path, this is just right.

To the very pleasant lady who runs this cafe: please do not take any notice of the criticisms on this forum. I, and many others, I am sure, are very grateful that you continue to keep this cafe open. It is always a relief to relax and enjoy a drink after the walk down. We hope to see you again next year!

Considering the lack of electricity, the lady worked tirelessly to welcome us and give advice. It is a small, family run business, having to pay a small fortune to have the toilet emptied, hence the charges. She also has to carry everything, including stock and rubbish up and down the mountain. If you want to take your own food, eat it out on the mountain and take your rubbish home with you! Pay 50 pence to use the toilet and be grateful you didn't have to wet yourself or pee behind a bush! Respect the fact that dogs aren't welcome where food is served for hygiene reasons not because the owner is being unfriendly. Treated with respect, this cafe will be 'halfway' up or down the mountain next time you decide you need to fill your belly or empty your bladder!

We walked up Snowdon just after Easter, on a not very nice day, when there was still plenty of ice at the top of the mountain. About halfway up, we came across this cafe, which for the girls in our group was a welcome opportunity to use the loo. The staff we spoke with (a young girl at the front and an older lady in the "kitchen") were very friendly. It is a basic place, but well positioned for the final assault on the peak.We had some hot chocolate, soup and sandwiches. Maybe a little pricey, but of reasonable quality, I've read some of the more negative reviews for this place, and what a bunch of whiners! They have some simple rules - take your own rubbish home, don't eat your own food there and if you want to use the loo, without buying a cup of tea, it's 50p to use. All pretty reasonable as far as I can see. The loo was ok, especially considering the amount of people (both sexes) using it. (a constant queue whilst we were there), with some moaning about there being only 1 loo, and about it being 50p (then buy a cup of tea you tightwads!) It being where it is, there is no electricity, and all the food/drinks are cooked on gas.So if you are expecting tea at the Ritz on Snowdon, then it's not for you. It's a basic but friendly place to get out of the rain for a few minutes, and get a warm drink and a snack.

The cafe is unwelcoming full of signs with things you can't do - not eat your own food or you will be asked to leave, can't bring your dog in. One member of group was charged £2.00 for a cup of tea and another £3.00! The proprietor is very rude and not at all the friendly welcoming person she portrayed herself to be on the television programme. This is the second time I have led a group up Snowdon and received poor service at this cafe. Give it a miss - and have a cuppa at the summit cafe or back in Llanberis

This dark, grubby cafe is, as the name suggests, halfway up Snowdon. Designed I think, to catch out the walkers who have not come prepared. Signs up saying that you are not permitted to eat your own food on their premises. So far so normal, except the wording of the signs state "if you are caught eating your own food" and then the appropriate punishment follows, I can't remember ear exactly what it was as I was stunned by the wording in general. You may use the toilet if you are a paying customer, however it is all incredibly overpriced and if you don't need or want anything it seems a bit counter intuitive to me! Perhaps if they just charged every person who wanted to use the disgusting loo, resplendent with no toilet roll they could put the money they raised towards actually lighting the place up and perhaps paying the cafe assistants to crack half a smile.

I climbed snowdon with my son , dog and friends. When we arrived at the half way cafe we walked if we could out some rubbish in the bin. I found the staff to be quite rude so we took the rubbish in our bags up the mountain. Was also expensive for tea / hot chocolate and coffee, but maybe that's because of the area its in. Won't visit next time I climb, will take a flask for the journey instead.

After luring our 3 children up Mount Snowden with the promise of a hot chocolate at the well publicised Halfway Cafe, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. The first thing we were hit with was that we couldn't bring our dog in, which I could understand if it wasn't a make shift, stone building with a corrugated roof and flagstone floor! The next 'surprise' was that the toilets were pronounced 'out of order' which from having read other reviews seems to be an ongoing situation. I suspect that they're not out of order at all but that this inhospitable bunch don't want to offer any semblance of an amenity. As we wouldn't be permitted to sit inside on account of our dog, the overpriced (just add hot water!) hot chocolate lost its appeal so when I asked that in addition to lots of overpriced Snickers bars, if we could refill our water bottle, I was told that the water was 'undrinkable'. I don't believe this for a minute! Surely at its most basic level a cafe should offer toilets and tap water? Far more lucrative for them to sell bottles of Welsh water for £2.80, which we ended up having to succumb to. It's a disgrace that this is the only place to get a hot drink (and virtually nothing else!) on Britain's most visited mountain. Fortunately the very poor impression this mean-spirited family give of the Welsh is far from representative. The irony is that if done right, this place could generate a huge turnover. Advice: bring your own refreshments and a She-wee!

This is a very welcome stop for weary climbers. Lovely little café run by the friendliest of staff. And whilst they have a captive audience things aren't too overpriced. Whilst there you must visit the one toilet and wash your hands in the sink that simply has the best view in the land.

Climbed up to meet mother-in-law to surprise her on 60th. Took her three grandchildren with us. Was looking forward to a rest and refreshment at the café. My daughter had held on and yet despite spending over £15 on food, was told that there wasn't a toilet as it was blocked. "just go in the bushes" was the reply. My daughter was embarrassed and uncomfortable, but had no choice.Another family said that they had seen a staff member use the 'blocked' toilet. The staff were not pleasant and my daughter was upset. Please eat at the café at the bottom of the trek, as the staff were lovely, welcoming and the food was top notch. They couldn't do enough for my elderly, often - difficult mother-in-law as she recovered after her descent from the summit. They were the true warm, hospitable face of Wales and not at all like the rude people halfway up the mountain. May be better if they stay halfway, as if they were at the bottom they would encourage people to stay away.

Coming down Snowdon and were looking forward to a nice home made soup, don't be fooled, we were told that the soup was home made, well, being a chef, this was tinned soup with added orange juice, very disappointing, service nothing special either

As other reviewers, it's a bit expensive. It was quite busy when we went in as the weather was awful. They don't let you eat your own food in there but fair enough. The place didn't look as if it had any electricity. Must of run off a generator. Four chocolates, £8.80 for what is a cup,of hot water with a spoonful of hot chocolate. But where else are you going to go. If you have good weather, take a rucksack and stock up before you set off. Loads of rocks to sit on and take it all in. There is another bigger cafe at the top. We ate our own food in there which looked like a lot of other people did.

Not really worth bothering with - dated interior, bland basic food and very high prices. Better off packing your own food and sitting on the mountain to enjoy it.

I know it's halfway up a mountain but surely it can do better than pot noodle and cup- a-soup? This is a truly disappointing and sad place. There is so much potential for an amazing place like this, hundreds must pass it every day. We had a cup of tea (over £2 a pop) and a sad sandwich, having packed none as we were sure there would be some Welsh delights on offer. Never again, I am packing my own baps next time! The loo was still out of order as of July 9th.

We had heard how lovely the soup was half way up Snowdon - so were looking very much to sitting down for a while whilst climbing this mountain - but no, it wasn't what was expected - and we weren't the only ones disappointed! We asked if we could go through to the seating area outside as it wasn't a dog friendly café - we were told no because the door swings on windy days - trouble was - IT WASN'T WINDY! - if you don't want to serve people with dogs - just say!The toilets were out of orderWe asked if we could put something in their bin - and they said if you didn't buy it here you can't - but we couldn't sit in the café and have something - so why should we buy from them?We watched a woman from the café walk around for nearly an hour picking up rubbish that walkers had left - but asked why isn't there a bin - she replied - if you brought it up here, you can take it down - but any small amount of common sense would say - you've been picking up rubbish for an hour - if you supplied a bin you wouldn't need to?The woman was quite abrupt and rude - its hardly our fault that you don't provide the service you need to for such an area - for goodness sake - stop being a disappointment!!

There is times of the day where there's no alternative for having a coffee in town. We went here twice during our visit of Caernarfon. I did not take a coffee at the second visit as I didn't like it. It is less clean inside and everything seems a little loveless. The sweet cakes etc. are great though. At least, the products are rather inexpensive.

We made the mistake of going back to this pub having visited several times over the years, it was completely dead and the bar lady had a serious attitude problem, when two other guests arrived the bar woman was now siting in the corner and i pointed her out simple saying the bar woman was over there - she completely turned on me obviously annoyed i’d called her a bar woman ( she clearly wasn’t a solicitor) which also resulted in her partner becoming extremely aggressive and was expecting a physical assault to be taking place, luckily i managed to de escalate the situation which if full of locals would’ve only been worse. The woman clearly has mental health problems and probably a drug user and shouldn’t be working in an environment selling alcohol.

Alana is a scam artist. Sends damaged squashed and disgusting cakes and then refuses to refund, would not order again from these people

We were looking for somewhere downtown harlech for a drink and food with our two boys, 9 and 14 years of age. We read the sign outside. Everyone welcome except for children. Dogs especially welcome. Adults only. A few of the local guys told me it's a swingers hotel where the dogs can get involved. Avoid. If you do want a good pint with holiday makers and locals all enjoying good food and drink and friendly conversation I would highly recommend walking an extra 200yds to the pub right next to the train station. Dogs, kids, humans all seem to be equally welcome

We popped in without a booking but were happy to have our meal in the bar area. The service was good, prices reasonable and we both had the fish and chips which was excellent. We were staying nearby and would definitely return if we are in the area again.A beautiful location next to the sea.
