We were staying at the nearby Brandon Hall and wanted to stay close by and eat outside of the restaurant so thought we would give the Half Moon a try. It was a Saturday night and we booked for 7:30pm (useful to know they stop servinv food at 8pm) they were quite busy. The atmosphere was country village vibe with lots of twinkley lights and locals to make you feel at home! We ate from the nibbles and sharer menu and enjoyed a wedge salad which we had with Caesar and bacon, but you could also have with blue cheese. we also had the white bait which were fantastic size and cooked beautifully, and the calamari/squid. This was very tasty did not seem to be frozen at all lovely. We also had the dirty fries which we have with Parmesan and truffle, and then we also had a charcuterie board which had a lovely selection of meats, because olives, bread and balsamic dressing to end all we had the Bisco cheesecake which was divine. Line has someone that works greatly within the service industry. The service here was incredible. Everybody was friendly efficient and warm. We will be going back.

I can't say how much Beccy and Mark have changed the Half Moon. The food is always excellent as is the welcome they give. Mark has transformed the outside area. Really nice space open to all. Since the lockdown we have ordered a take away Sunday lunch. Absolutely fantastic and quite obviously, proper home cooking. I have no doubt that once the lockdown has been lifted the Half Moon will be the meeting place for the locals. It really deserves to do well.

We arrived just after 6 and just for a main did not end up leaving until 7.45. There were only 3 tables in. On arrival noone came over, we had to ask for menus. Of which there were not enough for all 3 tables so we had to wait and share. Noone came over so I went to get drinks from the bar. I was told there was a 10 minute delay to staff arriving in the kitchen however that someone would be over to take the order. We sat first however we ordered last, there was a change in staff. We waited 45 minutes and then my friend went to ask on the food as only one table had had theres. She said she would check and then told us it would be another 10 minutes. Another table had there food, each individual tables food was clearly being made separately and there was at least a 15 minute gap between each table even though we ordered together. At no point were we told there was a long delay and had to ask ourselves. The food eventually arrived after an hour, there were only 2 of us. I live locally and was embarrassed as my friend was visiting. Her onion rings were also soggy. We also waited 15 minutes after eating for our plates to be taken. We asked to speak to a manager who was not available. There were not enough staff to provide a service to 3 tables. Seemed only one for the whole pub including the bar.

We booked a table for six for a family Sunday lunch at the Half Moon PH, we were pleased to find all the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the pub has a nice cosy ambience and a welcome fire burning away in the bar. I have to say they know how to look after the ale in this PH my pint of UBU was excellent so much so I had to sample a few! There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant & our Sunday roasts were delicious and well presented, there was a choice of 1,2,or 3 meats. I had the lamb & beef very tasty, but all of our party enjoyed there roasts. The service was excellent & the prices very reasonably, you will struggle to get a better Sunday at this price.

Was staying nearby on business and called for dinner. The other pub in the village was recommended but after a swift drink in there we decided it wasn’t for us! The Half Moon was lovely. We had a drink in the bar first whilst we looked at the menu and the Chef came out and explained everything on the menu and gave his recommendations. We both picked the Wexford steak and it was fantastic. We both had our steak cooked differently and you could actually tell the difference, not always the case! They were both perfect. The staff and locals were so friendly that when in the area again we will go back. I recommend it.

Decided to cast our net for Sunday lunches a little bit wider than just our local Rugby area and TripAdvisor came up with mostly good reports on both of Wolston's pubs. Tossed a coin and the Half Moon won this week and I'm so glad they did. Greeted genuinely as soon as we walked in and given a choice of tables, we were immediately given menus and offered drinks which seemed top appear only seconds after we'd ordered them. I asked the waitress for a pint of the most popular bitter and she brought a dark ale called UBU which was very good. Better half had Jack Rabbit Chardonnay which is always good. No starters offered but that proved to be a good thing as the meal size was whopping and might have been spoiled by an appetiser. A little wait for the chosen main course gave us time to take in the ambience of the place which was very pleasant. And then the main course arrived and it was superb. Two enormous slices of the leanest, tenderest and tastiest topside I've had in a long time surrounded by three roast spuds, peas, mashed carrots and swede, broccoli, stuffing and a Yorkshire. We could have had turkey, gammon or lamb or a combination for a small extra charge. Only a small choice of puddings, but excellent and quickly prepared. I only have a very slight moan about two things. I prefer to add my own gravy from a seperatly served gravy boat, but at least the kitchen hadn't drowned the meal as some do. And it would have been nice if the music could have been just a little bit softer but it ceratinly didn't spoil the occasion. We will return again soon to try the other meats.

We popped into our local for their Sunday Roast - We all had a lovely meal and lovely service from the young waitress. What we like about the Half-Moon is that they cater for vegetarian/vegans. Our daughter is vegan but with a gluten allergy so we have to plan where we are going to eat which causes her great stress trying to find something she will like and that will not make her poorly. With the Half Moon we can just pop in and they generally have something she will enjoy. This was our first visit for their Sunday roast and they served her up a great vegan roast dinner and in her opinion an even better vegan gluten free desert. The other three members of our party had the regular roast (two beef and the lamb) - Large portions of very good food.

Went with a gang of Retirees to a pub Whose threshold I hadn’t crossed since my callow youth, so kudos for still being there in these days of closing hostelries. You walk into the bar & the impression is of a simple old fashioned Pub. Friendly atmosphere & attentive barmaid who guided us into the adjacent restaurant. There was a special menu listed on a board but also a 2 for 1 set menu. I opted for the Chicken Pasta which came in a vast bowl together with a side salad & a mountain of chips. It would have fed two! The menu states “we don’t do fast food, just good food as fast as we can” which was worth the wait. Various pals had the Liver Mash & onions all wiped clean. The girl who served us was both helpful & friendly & we all enjoyed a fine Pub Lunch in this friendly village Pub.

I live in Wolston and hadn't been into the Half Moon since it last changed hands - it has had varied 'owners' over the last few years with little success. The current landlords have been in-situ since July 2018 (so beware any reviews from before this time, they are not related to current people!) and are building a good reputation locally. We were not disappointed. The staff are friendly and welcoming and there is a nice buzz in the place. The menu is fairly basic, just good old traditional pub meals. It doesn't claim to be fancy but doesn't have fancy prices either. But what they do have they do really well. My homemade lasagne was very tasty with a perfect texture and my husbands mixed grill was perfectly cooked, our friends had scampi and a steak which were also apparently good. We'll definitely be back, shame it took us so long to give it a go!

Called In on the off chance for Sunday lunch, as have heard how good the food is here and apparently the best Sunday lunch in the area. The bar is most welcoming, great vibe, full at around 3pm which is a good sign. The manager and staff were very helpful, couldn't do enough for us. The sunday lunch was well cooked, hot pleanty of vegetables and a large portion. I can honestly say it certainly is the best in the area we have tried. Will deffinatly go agai. Well done to the Half Moon

We visited a week before Christmas, 19th December. We were seated quickly, the waiter gave us menus and told us 2 things off the menu. We order, and get told there is only one mixed grill. Then we have our stsrters which were "ok". 45 minutes after starters are done, the waiter comes to tell us that one of our choices wasn't available. Something else was chosen.

We were visiting relatives in Wolston and decided to try this delightful village pub which is under new management. We were given a friendly welcome on entering the pub and were promptly shown to a table where our drinks order was taken whilst we perused the menu. The food we ordered arrived after a few minutes piping hot and very tasty, and incredible value for money. Drink orders were taken throughout our visit and we were made to feel as valued customers, we returned the following Sunday for a family lunch which was equally first class. We hope to return next time we are in Wolston.

I was staying locally at the Hotel Mecure with family and friends. Before we arrived some weeks ago I had been researching where we could eat. The Half Moon Public House was formerly an Indian. What's happened is that both Trip Adviser and Google have merged the two sites. So the information is incorrect i.e telephone number and opening hrs, more so some of the reviews are wrong. It took me a day or two to find the correct telephone number. So I have copied this on to my review. For the sake of clarity, this is a pub which serves traditional pub food. It is no longer an Indian, and it is open! I think from midday until late. Not sure about the food times. We went Saturday night at 7.30.So, on to my review. I was visiting with family and friends. We had a taxi from the hotel. No doubt in the summer it would be a lovely walk, say a good mile or so. The food is very much traditional pub food, chicken, steaks, pie etc. And there were a good half dozen or so sweets to choose from. I had the 6oz steak. I think the chips were frozen. It would have been nicer had these been real chips. None the less, clean plates all round. Prices pretty standard at £8 to £10 for a main. Deserts £5 or so. Service was good. Few beers and back to the hotel. Definitely worth a visit if you are passing.

We ate here on Boxing Day and had a great experience. The Half Moon has recently returned to being a pub after a couple of ill-fated years as an Indian restaurant. We are huge fans of the Royal Oak in Brandon and the food was of a similar quality. There is a good variety on the menu and good specials, ranging from familiar favourites to slightly more adventurous dishes. The only slight negative was the service, with the bar staff also serving food so were pretty busy. But that could have been because it was Christmas.Well worth a visit. We will definitely be back.

Three of us ate here on a Friday night. The pub had recently been an Indian restaurant and has now reverted back to a pub with a restaurant. The bar area is rather sparse and unwelcoming, despite the real fire. The staff are friendly though and the beer is good. The meal we had was on the whole very good. My husband had a poor starter, which he should have sent back but he was starving and ate it! It was a rarebit with Guinness and mushroom and what should have been toast was just bread and it was cold. However the rest of us enjoyed ours and our mains were all good. I had a perfectly cooked sirloin steak and my husband had a steak and ale pie full of tender meat. We had some nice wine and the service was friendly and well timed. The meal was also very good value at about £20 per head including drinks. I would definitely eat here again.

I have had a takeaway from Spice at the Half Moon a couple of times now and the food has always tasted very good. I have however just found out that in June this year the Food Standards Agency gave them a food hygiene rating of ZERO! stating urgent improvement necessary. We've been to Spice at the Half Moon around 4 times since it opened in May this year and we've not yet been disappointed. The food is tasty, portion size and pricing very reasonable and the staff are all very friendly. Service is very good, and as mentioned by taffma2, the waiters are all very attentive without being overbearing. Food is freshly cooked so they are willing to make it as spicey (or not!) as you like it. I get the impression that if you wanted something in particular that isn't on the menu, every effort would be made to serve you exactly what you wanted. It's a popular place at weekends so booking is probably best but weekdays its pretty easy to get a table, especially if you like to eat early. Definitely worth a visit.

A good venue for an interesting meal. An extensive Indian menu, with a few twists. This restaurant is in an old village pub, the layout is little changed, but the decore is very definately Indian. Managinging to be traditional and modern at the same time. The staff are attentive without crowding you, know the menu, and are keen to discuss it with you. The restaraunt starts to serve meals at 5pm, which is an added bonus for those with young families or plans for the evening. The village venue is close enough to the city, to be easy driving, and not far from the M6 either.
