Made very welcome, friendy staff , amazing food

Parking no problem,staff friendly help all they can,beer spot on,food very nice, breakfast great choice can't beat bit black pud.

Had lunch here. Lasagne. Beautifully cooked on the premises. Excellent service. Very personable staff. Beer very good. Everything a first class country pub should be.

Lovley place, has dog friendly rooms. Has parking spaces round the back. Nice garden area that you can have drinks . Has a restaurant within the same building great food and good variety. Breakfasts very good. Lovely, friendly, helpful staff.

We were stopping about 6 miles away when we stumbled on this little gem. Helen, made us all very welcome, she fitted us in at a late request and was able to bring along our dog. I had mentioned it was my Birthday and she kindly made up our table with Birthday confetti. The choice for all our family was excellent with my wife being veggie. The meals we ordered was fantastic and tasty. Helen made us all very welcome. will defiantly visit again. Great food great place. Looks like a great place to stop too.

We stayed here for one night and were very impressed. The hosts were cordial, attentive and welcoming. The rooms were a good size and clean. The bed was comfortable and we slept well, and the food was fresh and well prepared. Also has a beautiful and well maintained beer garden that we would love to return in summer and experience!

We had my mum's wake here on 2nd Feb.the food and attention to detail were second to none ..nothing was too much trouble ..we had vegan and gluten free options which were delicious.the landlady really looked after us and gave us 5* treatment ..thankyou for making a sad day more bearable.regards Kate and family .

We went there for evening meal this evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and the food was very nice. Definitely a recommend.

Five Sunday dinners ,one came out with cold mash, potato was almost raw, meat looked like it was cheap processed out of a supper market,child portions.

Stayed overnight on my own due to last minute change. As a single woman this can be a daunting prospect but the warm welcome and genuine caring reception I received was second to none by all the staff. Lovely hotel. Thank you for looking after me. Excellent xx look forward to seeing you again

Drove 60 miles with the my wife and 2 children and our dog only to get told we couldn't leave our dog in the hotel room while we went out for a couple of ours so had to cancel our plans and drive home due to no other hotels available taking in pets

I was travelling by bicycle. The hotel stored my bike overnight in a locked shed. The welcome from the owners was very warm. The room and breakfast were both good. I ate in the hotel in the evening. It was a Saturday but the only other guests were a party of about 6. I had one of he chef's specials which was good. However I fear with that level of trade it may be difficult to keep the business going.

Visited with family for an evening meal. Both food and service were excellent. A varied menu including South African specialities. Service was attentive, courtesy of Helen and Del.

We did a stop-over for one night on our way up country. The staff were very welcoming, attentive and the food was lovely. Generally it was a relaxing and comfortable stay. Most notable for the staff and the food, but also has a nice garden.

Booked meal for birthday, was informed there was a limited menu. What they should have said it was a none existent menu. On arrival staff very friendly, menu only had salad, fish and chips, pie, sausage or fish cakes. Very very limited portion sizes small, deep fried fish cakes looked like they were shop bought. Very disappointed will not be visiting again.

Had a meal here for my Birthday. Staff were amazing and added special touches by laying celebration confetti and a flower on the table. We ordered curries from the special board and both were amazing. Had the home made carrot cake for desert and it was the best I've ever had. So impressed and will definitely be back for more.

We didn't stay over but had a meal there and had a loveky evening. We were made very welcome, including the dogs. All the food was good but the cheeseboard was just wow! The downstairs was very clean and tidy.

Not been for some time as last time quite dreary, walked in to a welcome from Helen as warm as the weather. Food was delicious, well presented, the staff polite and attentive. The outdoor space was great. Thanks for fitting us in! Definitely another trip to be made.

Wonderful afternoon spent at The Half Moon Hotel in Alford. The hosts are very welcoming and the service is great. Hope to go back soon. Love sitting out in the lovely garden area.

Beautiful people, so warm and welcoming. We had a celebration of life and they went above and beyond to ensure everyone was cared for.

Lovely beer garden which is nice this time of year (summertime). Inside seems to have plenty tables for dining and the bar area is dog friendly. Our old hound also got some free biscuits which was nice. Staff friendly and helpful. Menu not particularly varied and some options weren't available. Food was simple but fulfilling.

It was our first visit and we really enjoyed the hotel. The rooms are well decorated and spacious, clean with a very comfortable bed. I would highly recommend it. The staff were all friendly and polite. Plenty of space to enjoy a quiet drink in the bar beer garden or the roof terrace.

The meal was outstanding and the staff couldnt be more helpful. Lovely hotel too.

Only popped in for some lunch...nice welcome as you walk in...the food was perfect and the pub was like a traditional English pub with nice garden at the rear and a car park.

We met a lovely lady on the street who told us all the cafes were closed. But some of the hotels were open. We walked around the back of the half moon to see if we could get a cup of tea and were pleasantly surprised by the well kept gardens in this delightful charming hotel.

Didn’t actually stay in the hotel, but stopped in Alford for dinner on 27th July 2022, the Half Moon was very welcoming. Another review mentioned ‘treated like royalty and welcomed like family’, which I think sums it up perfectly! Despite a reduced menu on the day, there was plenty of choice even for a veggie like me, and we all enjoyed a very tasty meal, and very much enjoyed talking to the hosts! Would recommend.

I stayed here with my mother who has mobility problems Her room was ideal for her has it had plenty of room for her to get around, it had a chair opposite the tv which was electric so she could get in and out of it with ease. There was also handles on the walls in the bathroom. The rooms were very clean and had everything you would need staying away from home. The owners Helen & Robbie were very welcoming and were around all of the time - they made sure were were fine when we were in the dining room and that we enjoyed our meal plus in the morning at breakfast, they were there helping us with our selections. There was a good selection of meals in the restaurant and for breakfast. The other members of staff were very friendly and helpful too. I liked the decor which suited the age of the building - it wasn’t ultra modern like most hotels which personally I find cold and unwelcoming. There is a well maintained garden with lots of plants/flowers and places to sit - also there is a bar which seemed well attended with the locals. I recommend staying here if you intend to visit the Lincolnshire wolds or the area around.

I didn't stay here. We came to watch and listen to some live music being played on a glorious summers day in the large "beer garden". This is a surprisingly large venue. The restaurant is quite dated, the bar area more contemporary. It's a good location on the main road within easy reach of most Lincolnshire attractions. Food was average but inexpensive (Sunday Lunch,).

A nice open atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff who seem eager to please. Food was quick, very nice, but basic. Coffee was one of the best in the high street so far, being we have now tried them all after moving to Alford. The town itself is old-fashioned and needs a serious update to bring more people/money in, as seems very empty, but the people are lovely everywhere you go 😊. There are other places to eat within the town but they are not open every day

It is very nice please very nice stuff and they are very polite and pleasant I will recommend this guesthouse to hurt anybody as I was looking for something for Christmas they helped me out

I wish I could give it 10 stars. While the place looks a bit dated, once you are here you simply will not care about how the hotel and it's decor looks because the owners have the most important thing done right - making you feel welcome. I have genuinely not met a nicer family nevermind just comparing hoteliers. As soon as you check in, they make the time to speak with you and are genuinely interested. Clearly something extremely important to the owners because all the staff are the same and the non customer facing staff have the same lovely, guests-first attitude even when outside the hotel (I was terrible at my parking so was in the way of the kitchen staff and the bins). The food in the restaurant is absolutely fantastic and great value for money. I will not be staying anywhere else when I come to this area.

This wonderful hotel, restaurant and pub is a family run delight. The local and national beers are well kept, the service is friendly and the food is good. It’s also the home of the local Morris Side and a festival venue for town events.

Absolutely superb hosts and the food and drinks were exquisite. Love the Bateman's XB and real steak pie!! We will be back from Spain again and plan to do a Lincolnshire holiday so see you again soon and thank you very much for all the staff and owners for a wonderful evening!

Had a meal only for a party of 4 . All the was brought out on time and was hot. All the food was excellent. The owners could have done nothing more and were great. The other staff were top dollar. We will be back

Second stay here everything was brilliant

Nice pub, friendly staff and lovely beer garden . Price of food is a touch high for portion size and the inability to eat outside is disappointing.

A large bar with various different areas to sit and a large outside space at the back perfect for warmer days and evenings. The staff are what make an establishment. The Half Moon could train others. All excellent. Bar food and following day breakfast were very good. Bedrooms on first impression are a little dated but are clean and comfortable. A well stocked tea tray, selection of TV options, a trouser press and lots of storage space if required. My single room also had plenty of electric sockets around for phone etc. Very good value indeed.

My wife and I stayed here for one night very recently as a base whilst exploring the local area and to celebrate her birthday. Helen, Robbie and the rest of the staff made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed the dinner we had as well as the breakfast the following morning. Helen had even picked a rose from their garden to put on our dinner table, which was also made special with a few decorations on the table and a candle on my wife’s dessert, Many thanks. We hope to return.

Family run business, absolutely marvelous, nothing was to much trouble for them . Felt like royalty. Lovely disable room even with electric chair, home from home . Staff excellent, very very doggie friendly. Will be back for sure .

Our 2nd stay and it definitely won't be our last The bar/restaurant is popular with the locals and its easy to see why,delicious food,a wide variety of wines and spirits and lovely staff. We had a spotless bright room and such a wonderful welcome from the staff and owner's Absolutely 100% dog friendly really can't fault it

Not been in this place for over 25 years, was a lovely surprise thou. Nice friendly staff, beautiful gardens ( dogs aloud) and a top pint. Didn't eat but the food looked lovely, which I will be trying out next week.

Very friendly and professional and when they say 'dog friendly' this place means it rather than tolerated. Our dog enjoyed the stay as much as us. Lovely well kept garden and great breakfast where he could join us. Definitely stay again if in area.

We had a wonderful family birthday party in the pub and function room. Everything was excellent and the cake was absolutely fantastic in it's design and eating.

Me my husband and father in law spent a couple of nights at the hotel,we had a wonderful stay,highly recommended and very friendly staff,very clean and comfortable,the breakfast was nice and nothing was to much trouble,the garden was lovely,our dogs was spoiled with lots of biscuits and always brought them water.its like home from home. I dined in the restaurant last night for the first time. I am a local. The food and service was excellent, beautifully cooked and presented, nothing was too much trouble. Themenu was unpretentious and tasty, good gluten-free options. The desserts are first class. The wine was also good. I could not fault it. I will be back. At last, somewhere to relax and eat good food in Alford just a short stroll from home. Dog friendly too.

Had my sister and brother in law up for a few days (frequented for a few drinks each day) staff are all top notch as are the owners, very friendly and chatty. Today we to them here for a breakfast before they travelled home. 1st class and worth every penny. Will be treating myself here a lot more now. Thankyou all for a perfect breakfast.

We booked the function room at the hotel for a small private family event. Helen and her staff were great, very welcoming and considerate, and flexible to meet our needs. Good buffet food (especially the rolls, meats and salads and sparkly cakes) and there was a lovely garden space to access as well

We had a funeral buffet at the half moon on Monday 11th April. There was a varied choice of food available to pre order. The food quality was excellent. The staff Keira, Helen and the team were welcoming, friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure we were all fed and watered. The surroundings were lovely and quaint. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back for another visit

This was my first time dining at Half Moon restaurant and everything was first class from the service to the food. Such lovely bubbly, friendly staff who really made me and my friend feel at home. Fabulous atmosphere with beautiful gardens outside. This would defiantly be a must visit for anyone who wishes to visit Alford! Honestly you are all doing such an amazing job running such a high standard establishment :)

6 of us went for lunch recently, from the minute we stepped in, staff were lovely and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for. The food was gorgeous and generous portions. Plus side it was very dog friendly as well, we all said we would definately go back again.

What a warm welcome! Gorgeous, meticulous owners. Family and dog friendly Hotel and Restaurant. Food was spot on too! All locally sourced. All cooked from fresh too! This lovely couple couldn't do enough for our one night family stay yesterday. ❤ wished I'd have taken photo's, but my kids (21 & 11) cringe at that kind of thing nowadays 😬. Thankyou soooo much for welcoming us to your humbled abode at such short notice too! We would 100% recommend and will definitely look you up again when back in that part of the country 😉

Have been calling in for coffee and cake but decided to have a lunch. great welcome from Helen and the other members of staff. great choice of dishes on the menu and we all really enjoyed our main courses. The dessert selection was wide and of excellent standard. i had the chocolate stack and my husband had the cheesecake. Both were delicious! Think this will be a regular treat.

Just returned from a lovely lunch, we arrived at very short notice and not long before lunch finished. Everyone was Incredibly attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. We both had the belly pork roast, a must!!!! slow cooked with a lovely crunchy crackling topping with a great selection of vegetables and mashed potatoes. Then the carrot cake WOW the lightest and tastiest we have ever had, simply beautiful, we had this as a takeaway as we were suitably stuffed after lunch. All round an absolute pleasure. A wonderful family run business that must be supported to ensure it continues that way. We look forward to returning soon xx

Called today for Sunday lunch, lovely meal and the staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, and they welcomed our dog George which was a added bonus. Try this place if your passing, very warm and friendly hospitality.

If there was a 6th Star, the half moon would definitely have it. I stay away 6 days a week throughout the year and have been doing so for 8 years, so I've stayed in ALOT of hotels. Some good, some not so good. But, this place, hands down, beats the lot of them. The accomodation is very comfortable, like returning home. Everything you could need is available. The food..... Very, very reasonably priced, and fantastic quality. Breakfast is great, and when I couldn't make breakfast due to early starts, I was given a packed lunch. The staff.... WOW. The Half Moon's jewel in the crown. Every single person who works here has the best attitude and warmth I have ever encountered. Nothing is too much. There are lots of lovely touches in a stay here, being shown to my room, stickers to hold the toilet roll end down etc. If you have chance to have the Carrot Cake.... Do, it's sooooo good!! We were passing and dropped in for a meal. We were treated like very valued customers. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic. The staff were brilliant with my two sons, 3 & 5, treating them as if they were happy to have them there and taking their orders. Brilliant, we're not that near but we'll return.

My family and I recently visited The Half Moon following a funeral. I had booked a light buffet which Helen very kindly arranged for us. She was very helpful,attentive and friendly throughout and we were provided with sandwiches,scones with cream and jam , biscuits and a never ending supply of tea and coffee. We were very pleased with everything and will definitely visit again when we are next in the area.

We were rushed to decide what we wanted to eat . Staff hovering over us all the time . Food was disappointing and very average for the price

Very tired place, food not great

Writing this review in November but our experience with the Half Moon started back in early August 2021. At this time we were looking for a place to stay and also find somewhere to have a function room for a celebration of life for a family member and this is where our relationship with the staff began. As soon as we met both Helen and Robbie and how comfortable they made us feel discussing our needs we felt as though we were part of a family and this has turned out to be very true. All through the Organisation of events Helen and Robbie have been so welcoming and nothing that we wanted was too much trouble, follow this up with all the other staff and you have the perfect business. We have regularly taken trips back to Mablethorpe to sort out family business and on each occasion stayed at the Half Moon. On each occasion the rooms we have booked have been extremely comfortable and clean, the food and breakfasts spot on, a great range range of beers and wines especially the South African. I know I speak on behalf of the whole family when I say a huge massive Thank You to everyone who works so hard at this establishment and although we are nearing completion of everything I know that we will return to see everyone under better circumstances. Thanks again Helen, Robbie and all the staff you all do a fantastic job. Have a wonderful Christmas and we look forward to seeing you soon.
