We booked 3 rooms for the family to celebrate my mother in laws birthday in an area where she has very happy memories. All the rooms were lovely and very clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A special thank you to Yvonne for the gorgeous room for the birthday girl and for the card and gifts, they were so appreciated. This hotel is in a great location with free parking and we would recommend it if you fancy a trip to the coast. Thank you all so much for the great service and attention.

Popped in for a sandwich and steak baguettes lovely food steak very soft and loads of flavour. Staff behind the bar very pleasant and a bonus as we are sat in the beer garden and the suns out, will definitely call here again 😀

Good parking, one lounge is dog friendly and is very nicely decorated, good menu choice, good service. I’d recommend and will visit again when in the area.

After my second visit to the Bacchus I felt I had to leave a review. My friend n I stayed for 3 nights, and all I can say is you catered for all our needs n wants. I’ll leave you to guess why a member of staff left us a gravy boat in our room to solve a problem (you know who you are) which it did. The food we had in the evening was excellent, and we even had to try the Rumpy Bumpy, which was delicious. Here’s hoping for another visit later in the year when hopefully room 8 will be back in service. Carry on doing what you’re doing, you made two elderly(but young at heart) ladies more than happy, if I say Hinge n Bracket you’ll guess who we are, we can’t wait to come back n torment you again 😂

Came here as it was the only place open for a proper meal. The starters were beautiful, the batter on the prawns was divine. Generous amount of pate also. We both had steak, which was good quality and again the home made chips and batteres onion rings were lovely. Not let down by the puddings but enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Shame they only do cocktails at the weekend Would come here again definately

Lovely Hotel David and all the team should be credited on the excellent service and customer focus. We stopped in room 14 which was just what we wanted, nice size, clean and tidy and fitted the bill perfect. Great evening chatting with David about the hotels innovation of becoming 100% net zero. We will definitely be back 😊

We found ourselves looking for somewhere to have dinner when we visited the area in our campervan over the weekend. We came across this hotel and liked the look so popped in! Timed it nicely as it was about 18:25 and they start serving dinner from 18:30. The decor in the downstairs eating / drinking area is really lovely. Nice choice of food on the menu and reasonably priced. My husband had the burger which looked really good and he says it tasted great as well. I ordered the starter of butterfly prawns for my main meal with a side of chips. (Which was a very generous helping so I apologise for leaving half of them!) . Both prawns and chips were lovely. We usually leave as soon as we have eaten but we were so comfortable and the atmosphere was lovely with good music playing, so we stayed and hubby ordered another beer which is most unusual for him! This eventually led to being offered dessert which we usually don’t do but I was enticed by a rum and raisin cheesecake with ice cream! (can never seem to say no when they are on offer.. ). I’m glad I did as it was very delectable! Staff were very friendly and if we are ever back in the area again (we live in Yorkshire) we will definitely come back to eat there.

booked a room in Oct, for 2 nights 5th and 6th jan, asked if they needed a deposit to secure it was told no we will charge your ney came out!. when I contacted them was told that was policy and if I wanted a refund the room would no longer be booked. needed the room as i was travelling for a family party. when we arrived on Friday (me and my 5 Yr old) it took us 15mins to check in as the woman was also manning the bar!. Got to the room and my god!. carpet in the tiny bathroom with no form of heating and a leaking shower so stunk of damp. woodchip wall paper and dirt on the walls and door. went down to the bar, totally different ! fantastic decor and atmosphere. Forward to sat morning. Full electric power out at around 7.45am for around 15mins, no apologies at all not even a note under the door. the heating doesn't come on until 7.30am so the room was freezing. went to breakfast, only served between 8.15-9am. served by an older gentleman that felt it was appropriate to swear whilst serving us. the breakfast was appalling, I've heard the food here is actually really good so I can only imagine they put more effort in when they are getting paid after people have eaten. Breakfast on the second morning was slightly better but I did have something else so maybe that's why. whilst there I noticed a sign saying that rooms where 2 nights for the price of 1 at £130! is that the reason i had the money taken from my account 2 days after booking even though I was told I didn't need to pay until I check in! I mentioned a few of these issues whilst trying to check out but was fobbed off. We should have been holding the family do at this venue but when they said they wanted £5 per head for a chip butty we went else where! it's a good job the pub/ restaurant area is nice as it looks like most of the reviews are for those, definitely not for the hotel side of the business!. £100 per night I paid for me and my 5yr old, I won't be returning but then the owner isn't bothered about repeat business as long as he can keep the illusion of the hotel, with the reviews of what are mainly for the pub side, so people keep booking but not coming back, he's happy with that.

This is a solid 2 star hotel but sadly charges as if a 5 star !! I paid £120 for possibly the worse 'Twin' room I have ever stayed in - Room No.17 It has 2 single beds - one bed the mattress is so thin you can feel all the slats on the bed-frame! The dec's are tired and when sitting on the Wc my knees hit the wall in front, absolutely ridiculous for £120.00. You cannot get anything to eat after 2.30 in the afternoon till 6.30 and even then the food is not great. You either need to bring your prices down by 50% or RENOVATE.

Had a party last night at the bacchus, had a really good time and the service was very good, the chefs made a variety of food for over 60 people and everyone enjoyed their meals and everyone had a great time.

We had popped into the Bacchus for a coffee on the morning of the 25/10 and were impressed by the surroundings and atmosphere so returned for dinner in the evening. Whilst ordering was a bit rushed due to staff shortages forcing the kitchen into an earlier finish than advertised, the food was excellent and we were able to relax during and after the meal. Not sure we will be in the area again but the Bacchus is well worth a visit for anyone in or close to Sutton-on-Sea

A good venue for eating, drinking (their own brewery on site), and chatting with friends. We were not hurried and it felt comfortable and had a homely environment.

We visited the Bacchus hotel today as we had seen a large display sign advertising afternoon tea, cream scones and tea so in we went, we found a nice table with our two dogs and then went to the bar to order! We were then told, sorry we don’t serve afternoon teas until after 2.30pm, it was 1.45pm so we left, but as we did we noticed outside the large display sign stated afternoon teas from 2pm, so we popped back in to check if we had heard right, so we asked the same guy nicely pointing out the advert said from 2pm, but this same guy, chubby, dark haired, bearded barman was very rude and curt saying “we don’t serve until after 2.30!!!”, it was most embarrassing in front of lots of customers and so we left again. We have used this hotel before for tea and lunch, but we will not be going again and will certainly NOT recommend this place. Retraining in customer service skills wouldn’t go amiss. Sorry I didn’t get a photo of the advert.

We've had lunch here twice, one was normal menu and secondly Sunday carvery. Weather has been fabulous so we sat outside with our dog. ( however dogs are welcome inside!) Both, times meals have been great and plentiful. Staff are very helpful and cheerful! Happy to recommend.

We have stayed at the Bacchus many times in the hotel, but this time we booked one of the log cabins for us and our two grandchildren. We had a great stay as it was ideal for a short self catering stay, but we could use all the facilities (restaurant, Bar etc) of the hotel. The cabin was very spacious and well equipped with a lovely kitchen, very good size bathroom with large shower and outside a small enclosed terrace to sit on and drink and eat and watch what was going on in the beer garden!

Fantastic bar menu and drinks selection. Only a couple of minutes from the beach and the welcome dogs too! Visited a few times now with family and made to feel very welcome. Great for a meal, or just popping in for a pint or a coffee. Highly recommended

Totally ignored by bar staff for at least 10 minutes. They knew I was there. Chap called George was asked who he was serving next (there were only 2 people waiting) he said he was prioritising food orders others would have to wait. At that time nobody had asked for my order. Bar full of dirty pots and tables not being cleaned. George was rude and needs customer service training. Other customers walked out in disgust.

Visited the Bacchus twice this visit and food as usual was good. Due to coved restrictions things obviously different but well managed. Hand gel readily available and track and trace aware. Not much has changed since our last visit.

During a day trip we fancied Fish and Chips however with queues outside the chip shops and with our dog in tow we decided this Hotel bar was a better option. On entering we were asked by the bar staff to complete the track and trace form and handed a disposable menu. We took a table on the patio area in the garden which was nice and water was available for the dog. The establishment had good Covid safety measures in place and orders were taken at the bar with social distancing measures clearly displayed. They have a good range of Ales and the food arrived 20 minutes later, was good and plentiful. We only stayed for an hour but left happy with our experience.

We experienced exactly the same treatment as the previous reviewer. Please don’t blame inexperienced staff. I asked 4 members of staff if we could eat outside and the answer was no - only if you have a dog. Sadly we had left our dog at home! The final response was that we want to keep everyone contained inside. How incredibly dangerous is that. We won’t be going back to this hotel as I would have concerns for our safety!

Visited last week - staying in one of the log cabins over the beer garden. Myself and my mum had both been sheilding and this is the first time out since March.Other people were ordering food outside to tables and thought we would be comfortable with this.My dad queued up to place a food order to be told that they would only serve customers who had dogs outside.My dad explained that he was with two people who had been sheilding and that we felt more comfortable eating outside spaced out where other customers were being served. The waitress said that sorry those are the rules and said we could be served to outside tables thursday/friday when menu is full price. Only if we have a dog can we eat outside with the eat out to help out scheme (probably all other residents in the cabins had dogs). We only wanted a bit of normal back- this ruined our time here. I have never felt so poorly treated or discriminated against. Prioritising dog customers over keeping those extremely vulnerable to covid 19 safe in their establishment. Completely knocked our confidence. Do not reccomend.

The food was good. Service wasn't quick, but that was due to all the new C-19 rules.What really made the evening was the "service with a smile" from all of the bar and serving staff. They couldn't do enough for you.I would go back, Good atmosphere.

Congratulations to all the staff and management for all the improvements they have made to the facilities of the hotel during lockdown. As locals of Sutton on Sea my wife and myself have been patrons of the Bacchus Hotel for the past 17 years. We were amazed has to how much preparation had gone in to making sure they had followed the Government guidelines, to keep us the public safe.Whilst we were enjoying our usual excellent cup of coffee, we couldn't believe how ignorant and selfish some of the visitors have been. We watch them coming into the hotel, not using the hand sanitizer provided at the front door, not filling in their tracking details on the forms provided. Not social distancing, crowding up to the bar when there are notices telling the not to.Because there are more visitors this year, we notice that the staff were being verbally abused by some customers, because it was taking a little longer than usual for them to be served. This is a great hotel and they are doing there very best during this very difficult time.

We visited on Monday 3rd August as a party of 5 at around 1pm, it wasn't at all busy in the room that we were in and so we seated ourselves and as per the instructions on the wall we waited for our table service. It was approx 20mns before anyone came to take our order, we all ordered a 2 course of mains and dessert, 4 of us ordered fish and chips and one ordered the Lasagne, so not complicated meals. We had a limited choice for dessert as we were told there wasn't much left, after approx 40mns we received our meals, after another hour had passed I decided to enquire about our dessert so had to go to the bar as nobody had come to our table since our main course had been served. I was told by a young girl at the bar that the desserts we had ordered were now all sold out and could we choose something else, I declined as we had been there 2 hours and we didn't want to waste any more time there so I asked for a refund to be told that they don't do refunds, just appalling service, I'm not sure how long we would have sat had I not gone to the bar despite the signs saying do not go to the bar.

As a local I visit this place regularly, but was really pleased with how they have embraced the covid guidance and put full safety precautions in place. Service and staff attention was impeccable and I noticed that staff regularly sanitized door handles and public areas. They do however have a restricted 50% mon- wed menu so ask in advance what is covered if you want to take advantage of the deal, however, all food is delicious, deal or not. David and his team work hard to deliver an outstanding customer experience. Thank you xx

Travelled here today for Sunday lunch at our favourite restaurant. First time this season and we came apprehensively. What a most pleasant relief. We had coffee in the Garden, a drink in the Bar before lunch which we ate in the Dinning Room. Through out all the facilities everything was organised and managed to protect everybody. At no time were we anxious or concerned that we might be at risk. If you want an excellent Sunday Lunch out then try the Bacchus. We are going back Wednesday to try their "Eat out menu". A two course meal at 7:50 a head.

Love this hotel and sat in the garden which is a wonderful sun trap. Tables well apart, two young members of staff at the bar who were very friendly. Ordered our food but my daughter is a vegetarian and had ordered the 3 bean chilli, only to find the meat option served. No problems changing the meal but spoilt our dining experience as my daughter sat waiting whilst we ate ours. Food was ok but nothing special. My lasagne was ok but the few vegetables and veg it came with were cold. Little disappointed this visit but would return.

Great meal and good service, nice atmospere and pleasent location would recommend this place for food and drinks pleasently decorated not far from the sandy beach front of Sutton- on- sea :)

We eat here regularly in the lounge so we can take our dog with us. The food is very good quality and tasty, no complaints. They also have an excellent selection of flavoured gins as well as the usual beers, wines and spirits.

Really awful Meal at this Hotel. I would call it an awful version of a Wetherspoons. The place looked busy so we thought it must be popular. The food was a disaster from the outset and when a complaint was made, it was virtually dismissed. A free Dessert was offered but who would accept more food from this place. Sorry but no recommendations from me.

We visited here one Friday evening, this is clearly a popular place as we had to queue quite a while to get a drink. Although, couldn't knock the food at all. I ordered a steak and my partner a mixed grill and we both thoroughly enjoyed!

We were looking for somewhere where it was easy to park offering an excellent Sunday Lunch. Having often looked at the Bacchus from the outside, but never entered before, this was a new experience for us.Despite it being very busy we were able to book a table for two and given instructions about the procedure for the carvery. Our orders were quickly taken and drinks produced.We both had soup for starters and then joined the short queue for the carvery. The meats being served all looked excellent, and I went for beef while my wife had the turkey. The other items on offer were all nicely presented and when our plates were full we retired to our table to enjoy the meal. We were not disappointed.The Bacchus Hotel will be on our list for a revisit next time we are in the area.

Just avoid this place at all costs. Cheap meat, cheap beans, terrible service, in fact if you have a dog they stick you in the bar and then proceed to clean around you and you can inhale the pungent smell of bleach while you eat Lidl own brand beans :(

Worse meal myself and two other guests have ever had, could have walked to the beach and back on the steaks we had as they were ridiculously tough and under seasoned, not to mention a boiled chicken breast that was supposed to be "grilled" and Herby king prawns that we received cold without herbs, Staff member was rude and only offered a refund for one dish, if your planning a day trip to Sutton on sea boycott the Bacchus hotel for food!

We used to love this restraunt in Sutton. Sadly, now the hotel (like the town) is way past its sell by date. The staff bend over backwards to be helpful, but the decor, food and atmosphere are losing the battle. My Beuf Stroganoff was straight out of the microwave and carried on getting hotter for several minutes after I started eating it. The omelette was very nice - freshly cooked. I had the last bottle of Becks Blue - come on folks, you can't run out of non-alcoholic beer in a resort that's 2 hours drive from anywhere!

My choice of the Beef wasnt great as it looked a few days old dried at the edges. But everyone elses meals, the chicken and the ham dishes was lovely.

Stayed overnight on B&B; basis. A lovely room and great breakfast. Owned by David and Jane, this hotel is located 200 yards from a Blue Flag beach. A great welcome and really friendly staff make the place special

I live quite local to The Bacchus and have often popped in for a drink but on this occasion was invited to a Rotary Club afternoon tea. The Bacchus has always been a charming and warm building and remains so. Under the current ownership the business has, in my opinion, been over intensified and the once friendly, intimate atmosphere has been sacrificed. The staff on this occasion seemed minimal and unable to cope. The food was very nice and plentiful but after we were initially served the staff disappeared and we had to go looking for someone if an additional tea or coffee was required. It was a pleasant afternoon but could have been much better with a smile or two from the overstretched staff

The staff on the whole were ok except the manager (I think) Food was very poor - will definitely not go back!

Spent a couple of nights here for a drink whilst staying in Trusthorpe. Very nice bar which was very quiet and relaxing after all the meals had finished. Would visit again.

Nicely decorated hotel. Four of us ate there and we were able to take our dogs with us. Sometimes bit of a wait at the bar to get served. Food good and tasty. Would have no hesitation in returning if ever in the area again.

My husband took me to Bacchus Hotel for Sunday lunch (we were staying at Golden Sands for long weekend), the restaurant was full, however, the gentleman behind bar said we could go through to carvery, get food and then return to eat in the lounge/bar.

The meals are good, and reasonably priced, but the service is sometimes woeful for a hotel. Ask for 'tea for two' and you'll get a couple of cups with teabags in them, and it's always an ordeal to get the staff to provide you with a tray. However, I recommend the beer festival which is on twice a year.

Good place to eat and drink. Lovely old building and yes the log cabins do look out of place but they are not that close to the hotel. This business puts a lot back into the community by allowing events on their premises throughout the year. Well done The Bacchus

The Bacchus is in the middle of Sutton-on-Sea High Street and although the actual frontage is ok with banners and A boards if you look to the side, that use to be a garden it’s now full of log cabins that look totally out of place. If coming to stay and your in one of these be warned that several back onto the Spar shop car park! The main High St is to the front and if there is a beer festival or wedding on you could be in for a roudy night!

Although I have eaten here and enjoyed what I had, I use The Baccus as a pub mainly. Varied food menu - grills, burgers etc, modestly priced and right in the centre of Sutton, real ales and dog friendly. It's a good place for drinks outside on a sunny day. They hold events here including 2 beer festivals (Bank holiday weekends) with local beers. New addition are the wooden chalets which are situated in the large beer garden. It does get busy but staff do their best and usually friendly, so I would recommend a visit.
