Nice environment and friendly staff. The sour and spicy soup was flavorful, the BBQ pork in the soup was not very fresh. The stir fried pork with peppers were tasty, the pork was a little too chewy. The fried beef rice noodles were good，the beef was tender, some of the noodles were not soaked well, slightly tough. Both the stir fried pork with peppers and the fried beef rice noodles were slightly oily.

We stumbled across this restaurant while walking around looking for somewhere to eat this evening. We were delighted with the quality of the food, and portions were generous. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. Everything was reasonably priced and we thought in particular that the mixed starters were outstanding value for money. Hoping to return here when we next visit York.

Best hotpot place I’ve tried in the UK so far ⭐️ the meat and veg are fresh and the soup base is so delicious. The atmosphere and place is very clean as well. The service is so quick too. I will definitely come back to this shop again if I ever been in York. I’m very happy to find a good hotpot place in the UK and wish they keep the standard and quality up to this level as always ☺️

We went to the Tang Dynasty in York last Sunday. We went as a group of friends, most of us had never tried a hot pot before. The restaurant provided an amazing experience, the soup was highly flavoursome and there was a fantastic array of different options to marinade in the hot pot. My particular favourites were the deep fried tofu, the bean curd rolls, the fried dough sticks and the sliced potato. As a vegetarian I expected not to be able to sample the hot put, but the waiter asked to chef to make a special vegetarian tomato-based stock which was absolutely delicious. I felt very privileged that the chef modified the recipe to meet my dietary needs. The staff were so friendly and the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely be returning for another hot pot in the near future. I heartily recommend Tang Dynasty for groups of people wanting to try something a bit different!

We've been frequent visitors to York and always enjoyed Red Chilli across the road, so thought we'd try something new. Tang Dynasty Chinese restaurant, nice enough decor, efficient staff, but really let down by the food. The dishes were either really salty (chow mein, pork knuckle, sweet and sour and battered prawns) or just lacking in taste (spicy soup noodle and choi sum). Overall a disappointing meal, it's unheard of for the 6 of us to leave food on the table but this was a first. Everyone is thirsty as well. Back to Red Chilli next time

Wonderful small restaurant in a quieter street in York, the food is delicious, not expensive and having the little cute robot deliver it was fun. Definitely returning here!

Ordered takeaway, sweet and sour chicken balls delivered with no sauce, rest of the food dry and average. Called to complain about the missing sauce, tried to gaslight me for a few minutes that the sweet and sour chicken balls don’t in fact come with any sweet and sour sauce. Eventually agreed to check with kitchen, and sheepishly agree they had forgotten it. Their solution? We’ll bring it in 40 minutes. Terrible food, terrible service. Avoid

Food is good, decent portions and not expensive, with good staff, our meal for two came to £45 + £5 tip, so £25 per/head not bad. I would go again. I’d like to take the kids to meet the robot who brought the food.

An absolutely fantastic hot pot experience! The ingredients were incredibly fresh, the broth was rich and flavorful, and the dipping sauces made everything even better. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. The atmosphere was lively and perfect for sharing a meal with family and friends. Definitely a must-visit for hot pot lovers!

We ordered eggs fried rice, veg chowmein, salt and pepper king prawns, salt and pepper chicken. Everything was good except for the chicken item, which was too dry and chewy. But service was quick.

Though it's a bit late, I wanted to take a moment to share my appreciation for the amazing experience I had back in December 2024. My friends surprised me with a birthday celebration at the restaurant and the staff were incredibly accommodating. They really went above and beyond to make the occasion feel extra special. We had hotpot, which was absolutely delicious, generous in portion and variety, and of excellent quality, all at a very reasonable price. A special thanks to Leah for taking such great care of us! I highly recommend this place and can’t wait for my next visit! :)

Amaizing atmosfere and service and food was brilliant selection of Hot pot and Standard Chenees meals all warm up on hot plate!and Mini robot serve you food which is extra bonus :) Keep your food hot while you enjoy with people with people.

The food was delicious, there were gizzards and yellow throats which my friend and I didn't expect, we went in the evening and the service from the two waitresses was excellent, it's a shame they didn't ask for names. The after dinner sweets were also very good, and at the end of the meal the scarf was left in the shop and the clerk helped to keep it thank you very much.

The service was very good, the ingredients were fresh and varied, and it was delicious.

Not asking if customer want mild or very spicy just serve food that too much chillies, and food is look disgusting with full of chillies, corn pepper and mint seeds ruined all taste. And also serve us a old fish hard and taste horrible we went home feeling sick and dizzy. Never again !

Ordered food from this place the other day - spent £23 for a meal that wasn’t described. Went for a vegetable chow main and was met by a gravy soup and a separate bag of microwavable uncooked noodles. The starter for 2 was small in comparison to other Asian takeaway cuisines and was still hungry after finishing it myself - shame as I was suffering from a bad heartburn when ordering and needed a veg kick to be then given to help with my heartburn but unfortunately I was met by more salty liquid and not much veg and a minuscule amount of sour sauce.

I originally came here with my partner and we fell in love with their hotpot. We have subsequently come back 3 weekends in a row with our family for their food because it is so good! Their service is fantastic, always checking we are happy with the food and if we were wanting more hotpot ingredients or drinks. I recommend this place to all my friends now and I would encourage anyone reading this review to give it a visit as well!

Excellent food with the best service. My partner and I visited this restaurant with friends for the first time last Saturday. We got the hotpot buffet. The quality was superb, and the staff were very attentive. They kindly explained the premise of the hotpot buffet, which was great, as some of our friends had never been to a hotpot before. After this experience, they said they'd definitely be going to a hotpot again in the future. We will definitely be returning very soon to Tang Dynasty for another brilliant hotpot experience. It was a great way to make having a meal out more of an experience with a greater social aspect. The staff also made our time at the restaurant feel very special with a few laughs exchanged. They also brought us some complimentary homemade sweet treats from the chef which were really lovely (and tasty!) I have been, and will continue to recommend this restaurant to friends and family.

I didn't had a reservation and decided to dine in there on the spot. Thought they would refuse but didn't. Took few mins and managed to get a seat for me. Ordered their special fried rice and crispy curd dessert. The food was way too good especially the dessert. Loved it

We loved it! Great staff and management: really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant is lovely, the food is great and the robot from Rocky IV is awesome! Highly recommended.

If I could give no stars I would! Should of been delivered at 5pm despite nermous phone calls arrived 45mins late everything was cold, the chips had sweated so much in the bag it fell to bits trying to get it out, the egg fried rice was so greasy it as uneatable both main dishes stone cold we asked for no onions as im allegric to them...however they put them in after asking not to be cooked within the dish. People on the phone didn't have a clue nor could they get hold of their driver, he basically stood there and laughed and didn't have a clue either!! STAY CLEAR OF THIS TAKEAWAY. TERRIABLE SERVICE AND FOOD Update: it's just made my wife violently sick!

Very good Chinese restaurant, lots of Chinese families eating here too, great service, great food and not over pricey either. Open from lunchtime onwards.

Having lived in China, we found this restaurant authentic, even if not the most "high class". The Hot pot was very good and the service was very helpful, quick and friendly. Would recommend it to any one wanting traditional chinese cuisine.

We had hotpot here today with a pork broth base and a spicy hotpot base. It was delicious! This was our second time visiting the restaurant, and we even came to York specifically to enjoy this hotpot again. Honestly, it's one of the best hotpot experiences in the UK, where you can truly taste authentic Asian flavors. The wide variety of options makes me feel like I'm eating back in my home country.

I passed by with my mother to eat, traveling thousands of miles from Hunan, and it will definitely satisfy the Chinese stomach. Had lunch here a few days ago, very tasty and great environment. They serve the dishes with a robot which is quite cute.

Dinner was amazing. Buffet was generous. Staff incredibly accommodating and happy to offer suggestions and advice for a novel way of eating.

Tried the stirfried seafood udon with black pepper sauce and I cannot have enough of it. Very tasty, thanks to the friendly staffs, Leah and the manager. Wonderful seevice as always and I like the hot plate that kept my food hot throughout the meal time!

Good food at a very reasonable price. A large variety of choices. There are a couple items of in stock but it doesn't matter. Come with an empty stomach and finish roughly 10 dishes. Very friendly waitresses are helping here. I wonder why is not busy here. Fresh minced prawns and vegetables. Btw the music is a bit too loud 😳😂.

The grilled fish is the freshest I have ever eaten in the UK. It tastes delicious and has a large portion. The service staff is very friendly. Highly recommend to everyone to eat Looking forward to dining again next time😋

Lovely little chinese, as with other comments don't be put off by the outside. Went on a Monday so very quite. Food was quick, but nice.

Quick and communicative service, cozy atmosphere, great choice of food and dipping sauces. Staff said that they were fully booked out for the hotpot, but turns out they weren’t fully booked at all later in the evening. Felt misleading but was still a satisfying dine in experience.

We usually go to this place for hot pot and was surprised as we walked in as it has been renovate it looks lovely all the staff were very friendly and greeted you at the door. the food was great it’s great value for your money all fresh our at the table we had a Lovley time the staff went the extra mile to make it easier for my child to eat and drink so I’m grateful we will definitely be back again Only complaint was the cordial for my child’s drink was too strong so it was abit sour so just add less cordial

Fabulous dining experience for lunch... Great value set meal we will visit again. Very friendly and hospitable staff. The robot was an added bonus. Huge hot plate to keep your food hot. 5* soup, seaweed, pork belly, Kung pao chicken, fried rice and salt and pepper ribs all fabulous. Large portions as well. We will definitely be going back.

My grand daughter and I decided on this restaurant on a whim while in York for a few days, without knowing about the great exerience awaiting us. We had the hot pot, chose the stock and the raw ingredients and had a wonderful time. The service was attentive but not overwhelming and I would recommend this to anyone else looking for a differeny

A very good restaurant, the food tastes very authentic. I ordered the Sichuan hotpot, which tastes like domestic food. The service is also very good. The manager is from Shanxi. He is warm and hospitable. It is very cordial to chat with us in Chinese. Their Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine are both good and cost-effective. The location is right in the city center, not far from the Cathedral and Shambles Street. It is highly recommended!

Today was my second visit to this establishment and it has never failed to wow us. Tastey food, fantastic service and friendly recommendations. Fantastic 30th Birthday indeed, we will be back with friends next time!

Brilliant food, the all you can eat hotpot buffet is great for people with a bigger appetite. Would definitely recommend that. Easy access and plenty room for push chairs or wheel chairs. And the Maitre De/ head waiter was so good and friendly. We'll definitely eat here again when next in York.

First time here, and had a great time. Waiter was very friendly and helpful and explained everything to us. We chose the Hot Pot menu from a choice of three, Hot Pot and Barbecue, Traditional Chinese, and standard Chinese takeaway style menu. The traditional menu looked very interesting with some unusual dishes on it, and will probably give it a go next time we visit, although some guidance will be needed! The food was excellent, as was the service, can’t rate it highly enough. Recommended.

Update: attended a second time and the manager was passive aggressive the whole time - to the point of rude about “wasting food”.
