We love this hotel, from the moment you book in to the moment you leave, such friendly host & staff, the rooms are excellent & the views of the sea front which is opposite is outstanding, breakfast is lovely & filling,we recommend the evening meal option, myself have the Dover sole & my wife just loves the lamb shank,we then have a cheese board, but other puddings are available,we then wash it down with a bottle of 🍷 & a bottle of champagne, you can relax with a drink from a well stocked bar & watch the world go by as the waves wash against the shore

Uninspiring sausages, only half an egg left on the buffet, whole thing quickly cooled. There are better options nearby for £15. Waitresses still seemed to be half asleep (which maybe accounts for tgeeggs not beinfg replenished).

Called in on the off chance with other members of my family visiting for a funeral, we received a very welcome reception and were then given a very positive welcome our orders were taken and our drinks were served while we're seated in the lounge. When our food over was prepared we were shown to our table in the dining room wher our meals were served very professionally by the 2 waitresses all the meals were superbly prepared and cooked, the staff were brilliant and we couldn't have wished for better. Thank you very much we will most definitely call in again next time we visit the area.

We stayed here overnight at a weekend and after a few drinks in the bar we decided we didn’t want to search the town for somewhere to eat. Reception told us that we didn’t need to book but there was a large party due to eat at 7:30pm. We were the first ones in the restaurant and got to have a lovely sea view. I had the sirloin steak with all the trimmings which was absolutely beautiful, there was so much I couldn’t finish it. My partner had the gammon steak and only just managed to finish it. The restaurant got busier the longer we were there and the staff were really lovely. Would eat there again if staying as it’s really convenient and good quality.

I should have checked the reviews before booking… The food in particular was below average, both dinner and breakfast, where there was quite a wait for them to replenish the breakfast buffet. Some of The condiments sachets on the tables were two months out of date !!! ! I had scampi, it was tiny tiny pieces of scampi (?) surrounded by a massive amount of breadcrumbs that when you stuck your fork in, oozed fat. Looking at the food and the menu the kitchen obviously relies heavily on the deep fat fryer and microwave. Overall, not a good experience, expensive, and not one to be repeated.

Where do I begin. I booked a night for my wife and I for one evening as the Marine advertised itself as having Spa facilities and believing it to be one of the fine hotels in town. How wrong we were! The front facade of the hotel appears very grand but that disappears the deeper into the premises you go. Beyond the reception, the floors were comically uneven and appeared to have a mind of their own. There was a strange smell in the corridors on route to our room - unable to make out what it was. The room at first sight appeared pleasant having a sea view, however the facade soon diminished as there was no double glazing and the window was covered in condensation thus eliminating that sea view. It gave the impression of being a glorified 70’s seaside b&b which had been given a lick of paint. We ventured to the afore-mentioned Spa facilities and were at a loss how the establishment considered itself worthy of a “Spa” status - for what was basically a very dangerous hot tub in a cellar. There was a handrail to help you up the steps to the tub (where you promptly hit your head on the low ceiling) but no rail to guide you into the tub on very slippery steps. Unfortunately while entering I slipped and fell down two of the steps on my derriere - having recently had twin hip replacement this was not ideal. I reported the matter to reception staff who stated they would pass the details on to management. Of note - my wife also stated that the ladies changing room had an over-powering stench of cat urine (not sure they would advertise it as that) - it was extremely strong. The Marine appears to be charging premium rates for budget quality.

Booked table for Sunday lunch and was expecting usual high standard of food and service. Unfortunately this wasn't the case at all. They were only doing a bar menu which was fine as it did have a roast option but the roast alone was £16.95 per head. The meat was ok but the roasties were deep fried, the amount of mash was so small we eventually found it hiding under the yorkshire, all the veg appeared to be frozen. When you're being charged that much you expect more than frozen peas, carrots and broccoli. We had to send the califlower cheese back as it had no sauce or cheese on it! The waiter we had was very dirty. His clothes were unkept and extremely dirty and for the whole time we were there his mask was under his chin which is unacceptable. The owner didn't seem to care of his attire or for not wearing his mask whilst serving her customers and he was serving multiple tables. In the present climate with COVID this was not acceptable. The other waitress cleared some of our plates and veg away and 2 family members were still eating! Very poor quality for overpriced food. When I went to pay the bill, they had charged me for another table's drinks!! All in all not a good experience unfortunately and not sure why their standards have dropped so much. If I didn't know who the owner was I would have thought it had changed hands. They have clearly priced themselves out the market as it was very expensive for the quality of food and clearly explains why it was so quiet which is a shame as it used to be so good. Will not go back unless they bring the standards back up. COVID can't be blamed for bad service and lack of management.

Good location right in the face of the wild Irish Sea, and efficient staff. Also reasonably priced with a handy (if cramped) car park. However, the walls were thin, and allowed other guests’ private conversations to flow through, while the twin bedroom and bathroom were far too small. I didn’t walk away devastated, but not did I walk away delighted.

I was staying at the hotel and had dinner there for two nights in a row due to the limited options in town and the convenience. The restaurant is quiet and comfortable and has a sea view. The food was fine. Service was a bit disappointing on the first night. Things were a bit rushed which meant I didn't feel I was provided with enough guidance as to which dishes could be adapted to be gluten-free. The second night was much better. Overall, this is a convenient option if staying in the hotel.

Visited here for 2 nights with a friend booked a twin room asked for sea view but weren't given one. On arrival hotel had scaffold up on front but to me that wasn't a problem work needs doing. Booked in friendly staff. Nice looking reception area. We were given a room at back of hotel room was small and bit cramped for 2 of us and no table to eat food off we used the ironing board. Bedding was a bit lumpy see picture bed was not made to a good standard. Breakfast was a bring to the room job in a paper bag. Was OK under the circumstances could have done with sauce for bacon/sausage bap as was bit dry. We ordered an evening meal to the room and I must say it was lovely. I think under different circumstances this hotel would have been a good stay. We managed to park at back of hotel in car park but once we moved car had to go in overflow carpark just down road from hotel. An enjoyable stay but I think the room we had should be single occupancy not twin. Right on seafront with a good view over the beach and sea. Staff were helpful when we needed things for our room eg, tea bags milk etc.

Having had several Sunday Carvery’s here in the past and being totally bloated on the way out, we gave it a go for Christmas Dinner. So much choice of excellent meats available, and as usual, too much, but all together an exceptional Christmas dinner just like mother used to make.I have read the poor report by another diner regarding the lack of understanding allergies. I guess vegetarians and vegans may also be disappointed as the owner is from farming stock, so the cuisine is more akin to James Martin than Viki Smallwood.Sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience, we absolutely loved it..

We started out for dinner walking to a restaurant a little further up the road, but the October rain was heavy, and we stopped in at the nearly empty restaurant. We enjoyed an excellent dinner. My wife had a pork dish which was wonderfully prepared, and I tried the Welsh Cawl which was very good, perfect for a rainy night.. The bread that was provided with dinner was excellent. The restaurant did not have a dinner salad but the chef was able to make one from ingredients that they had in the kitchen, which was an interesting combination of flavors. The staff was attentive, and very helpful and patient. I am a little surprised by some of the less than positive reviews. For us, this was an excellent discovery that was safe and warm, and provided shelter from the storm.

After eating here many times for a Sunday carvery, we thought we would be on to a winner for Christmas Dinner. However, it was absolutely shocking! No concept of food allergies what so ever! Food in general was lovely and the hired staff couldn't have been more helpful but the chef and owner had a total lack of knowledge and understanding of food allergies!! Despite being called in advance to advise that 2 of our party had a dairy allergy (that's ALLERGY not dislike) and being told alternatives would be provided, TWICE we were brought out vegetables that had been treated with butter and/or milk! On the second occasion, the owner brought out a bowl of mash potato stating it had been "scraped from the bottom of the pan and therefore had hardly any butter in it and would that be OK"?! That's like asking a vegetarian if they'd be OK with wafer thin ham!!! In the end NO ALTERNATIVE veg was given! Whilst this was the most serious of shortcomings, we experienced other problems..... There was no system in place for serving and clearing. Twice we had to ask for our table to be cleared (between courses). Our vegetables were brought to our table before our starter plates had been cleared and before we had even gone to the carvery for our main course. There wasn't enough room on tables, tables were shoehorned together with literally no room to even walk between them in some places! The couple on the next table who although were very lovely and friendly, sat less than 5 inches away from us and waited over 10 minutes for their vegetables whilst sitting at the table with their main course and had to ask for them in the end! Cross contamination on the desert table resulted in both of our dairy free not being able to have fruit, however, they did provide dairy free ice cream. We wasn't brought tea cups when our table was served coffee and tea resulting in some of us having to use coffee cups for our tea! The only alternative milk they had was soya milk which was also unsuitable for one of our dairy free as one of them also has a soya allergy! No Almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk or any other alternative was given a second thought!! We wasn't offer mince pies as stated on the menu. To be honest the whole thing was a complete shambles! Staff were far too busy for us to keep asking for things that should have been automatic and at the end of the day, we didn't want to spend our entire Christmas meal keep asking for everything! Definitely wouldn't recommend and definitely wouldn't go there again for Christmas Dinner!

There was no offer to help with bags and we struggled into the lift and staggered to our room. It was clean but grim. Really looking forward to experiencing 5 star food in a 5 star hotel. It was our 33rd wedding anniversary on the 1st March, also St David's day, so expecting something really special on the menu. Might as well have gone to the Little Chef, the menu was so uninspiring we decided to eat elsewhere (at the Harbourmaster in Aberaeron) There didn't seem to be anything highlighted as local or even Welsh. Since there are over 100eateries in Aberystwyth and also a whole pile more outside you would think they might make an effort. Happy to do a laurel rest apparently. Wake up and smell the competition biting your heels! Visited the Marine for Sunday lunch with the family, 9 in total. Only options are for 2 or 3 course - not just the Main course. 2 course £18.99 ! Having booked for just after 1 pm, there was no starters left. It does not get replenished ! The mains have a super selection of meats in fairness, with lots of veg delivered to table. They could cut costs by having a further area to help yourself. Too much wasted. As for desserts, there was a large selection, although the one my wife wanted had run out (and they had no more). I don't eat desserts, so for us this was very expensive for the 1 course. As a final thought, it is time the owners reinvested some of the money made from the popular lunches back into the decor and room. Overall disappointed and embarrassed.

We were in Aberystwyth on a Sunday and having had the Marine Hotel recommended by a friend we decided to give it a try.. What a pleasant visit! We were greeted at the door of the restaurant and after being asked if we had booked, which we hadn't, we were soon found a table for two. The Sunday lunch is a carvery but not quite the same system as most carveries that we have been to. There is a choice of Starter and Main, or Main and Desert, so we chose the latter. When we went to the serving counter we were taken aback by the number of meat dishes being served, Beef, Lamb, Turkey, Pork ,Gammon and Chicken. There may have been others but there was such an array that I might have missed something. Also available at the counter were Roast Potatoes, Yorkshire Puddings and Stuffing and after choosing from these we returned to the table to find steaming dishes of vegetables already awaiting us, obviously placed by the attentive Staff who must watch as people leave their table to go to be served? Gravy was also there in a jug and water also, a nice touch and had we realised we may not have first brought in drinks from the bar. The vegetables proved to be far too much for us to finish, in fact we hardly seemed to have made any impression on the large amount that could well have served six people? When we had finished we approached the desert table placed in the centre of the restaurant. This is self service and the choice is amazing. I found it worth taking a couple of photographs of this as I was so impressed. Not the cheapest carvery that we have been to but I must say one of the very best.

We booked a party of 17 to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. We had a 3 course meal which was exceptionally good. We had a choice for each course. Every person attending gave huge praise for the meal and venue. Eating with a sea view and good attentive service made it a special evening. We would certainly recommend eating here. The portions were large and the meat tender and plentiful. Thank you.

AS we didn't drive as far as we were meant to,we had to spend a night in Aberystwyth. The first hotel we went into was booked out, so we went to the next one and were glad we did. The receptionist was really helpful and fitted us in.A great meal in the restaurant and then a comfortable bed. We were right up the top and lovely views along the promenade. After a very full breakfast we were on our way again, vowing to return to this hotel one day. Would love to spend a couple of days there as the hotel is quiet but very cloe to the shops

Das Hotel ist im viktorianischen Stil und unser Zimmer hatte direkt einen Erker mit Aussicht zum Meer und der Promenade. Fast kein Auto Verkehr. Nur das Rauschen der Brandung, das Kreischen der Möven. Ein Geheimtipp!Hier kehren wir sehr gerne wieder ein.

I have been here before several years ago when my daughter was at uni so I more or less knew what to expect. It is a bland but clean room and bland but edible menu for a good price. I was pleasantly surprised by my room as I ordered a single room but was given a family room which was lovely. Everything is sufficient but no frills. A box of tissues would have been nice as would some green tea in my room. What I really missed was being welcomed to the dining room at breakfast and being served my coffee. I am happy with a buffet breakfast but just those little bits of interaction and not having to carry a hot drink across the dining room would be good. Overall for the price it was fine and very clean but a few tweaks would make it more enjoyable.

3 of us had dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The waitress and barman were really lovely and when we asked for something that wasn't on the menu for our vegetarian daughter the kitchen came up trumps. Our meals came with huge dishes of vegetables and the carrots and cauliflower cheese were exceptional.

A large hotel on sea front. Although sign outside said pet friendly we were a little apprehensive, as it was a very wet day and our dog is big and was very wet. We asked at reception and were told it was no problem dogs were more than welcome in the bar. We ordered a bar meal and drinks, water was brought for the dog. The food was freshly cooked to order and the portion size was huge, no room for sweet. Everybody was very friendly and more than helpful. Great place, will definitely visit again when in area.

Recommend by our guest house this restaurant did not disappoint. A modern but not austere interior with seating for around 20 covers. Not a large menu (always a good sign) but a wide enough choice to satisfy most tastes. The staff were happy, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. the slow cooked beef was divine. On the Saturday we visited they were operating a two sitting arrangement, 6pm and 8pm. Not a problem with us (6pm) and may only be a Christmas arrangement - but given how good they are their popularity may be understandably high.

Although are room was clean, lovely, and with a seaview. I do feel £95 a night was expensive. The lobby was nice but the rest of the hotel looked a bit tired. The breakfasts were a big let down. The bacon and sausage were cheap and dry. Cold toast and cold dry coissants. We stayed 3 nights, but after the first breakfast i just had a yoghert and toast

The Meal was very average we had Scampi and it was frozen bag scampi and frozen chips too. No butter with the Pate and toast either. Nice pudding though Bread and Butter with custard. The gentlemen that Served us one of the best though we gave him a good tip because he really did his best for us.

Today I visited the restaurant after recommendations and was not disappointed! Although there was minimal vegetarian options (lasagne or nut roast). I had the veg lasagne and it was beautiful I presume homemade. The dessert table was outstanding even though it was a bit messy, but the restaurant was busy and very hot so things were melting quickly. I had a delicious 2 course meal! Thank you!

Took six visitors from USA for Sunday lunch, we had not booked but luckily they had one large table left. Meat selection was excellent as usual, I did think the veg was not as good as I had on previous visits being a local. Cauliflower cheese was very warmed up, and the cabbage had seen better days. Over all the starters were very good and the main meal, everyone eat what they had been served.

Visited this hotel for lunch on Monday 16th March - a mistake. On arrival reception staff we're busying themselves with who knows what, but it was obviously more important than acknowledging customers. Went into bar/lounge area where one person was on a telephone ordering food stock, presumably the chef, again no acknowledgment either on entering or when he had finished his telephone call, he just left without asking if we needed help/serving.Reception staff didn't leave their reception area to check on us either. Had to ask if there was someone who could serve us.On ordering at the bar a member of the reception staff stated that this was not really her job on entering our order into the 'till'. Hello, it's everyone's job to ensure customers get dealt with, they're the reason for you having a job!Another person, presumably a waiter brought cutlery out and asked the question at the table where we were sitting "where are you sitting"!! Then on another trip brought condiments, then another visit to our table to bring drinks, then another visit to query that we had two of each main meal, which was correct as there were four of us! Then a further visit to say they had run out of tuna, a hotel running out of such a basic commodity. Finally the meal was delivered, OK, but nothing special. The overall impression was of a tired hotel with disinterested staff and lack-lustre service. We never visited again during our week long stay in the area and found other much more welcoming places to eat. Based on our lunch experience, we would not book overnight accommodation at this hotel.

We attended a formal meal with former students of the university. The starters were all superb, and a vegetarian meal provided for those who had ordered it. The Sea Bass was absolutely cooked to perfection and Aberystywth is lucky to have chefs like this, The Pavlova likewise was a wonderful desert. The other mains-chicken and a Steak seemed to be well enjoyed by other diners.as were the other deserts, The presentation was beautiful wih extra vegetables-cauliflower cheese, swede and green beans. The tables were beautifully laid with white tablecloths and candles. Table service was exemplary.

Went for Sunday lunch. Haven't been for a while but it was just as good as normal. Fantastic carvery for your meat ,roast potatoes, yorkies and sauces. By the time you get to your table your vegetables are there. Starters are help yourself with a good choice. Sweet table in middle of room again help yourself. Good choice. You can go as often as you want. Not the cheapest for a Sunday lunch but value for money. Definitely worth a visit.

Whilst you select your cuts of Beef, Pork, Lamb, Turkey and Ham from the Carvery, your waitress delivers a selection of vegetables to your table. The prices are slightly more than your average Sunday Lunch but the portions and quality are well worth it.Afterwards, walk off your meal on the promenade and enjoy a trip on the Cliff Railway.

If you don't like carvery's - then you haven't been here before. Being English we're only used to the pub chains that provide this type of service. The isn't anything more different. The starters (except for the soup) are all in a chiller approx 8' x 4' - 3 types of smoked fish, prawns, pate, pastas, eggs in mayo, loads of salad - you name it, it's here. Then for the main course - the normal ham, turkey, lamb, pork, beef - but then it's never normal here, you can have a slice of everything. Help yourself to the dressings, roasties and gravy, and crawl to your table to await the arrival of at least 3 vegetables and some new potatoes. If I was being piccy, the yorkshire's were not as crisp as usual, but hey, let's not be greedy!! Then you have a sweet table to be believed. It might be a tad more expensive than that which we get up north, but boy is it worth it. We've been here now for several years, it never disappoints!

Not the staffs fault coz they are great but this is last time for me here!. £5.90 for 8 pieces of scampi no bigger than a Malteser and a large chips which would only serve 1 person. Had a sit down meal last week for cheaper. Increasing the chippy prices to pub prices and reducing to children's portions is completely out of order!

Very underrated pub in Aberystwyth. It's always my starting point in every Aber night out. I was a frequent patron during my time in uni and after; from 2018 till 2023. Scholars Bar a fantastic venue to meet up with friends and have drinks with. The tables are ample and spacious, enough to accommodate large social groups. I'm sadden to hear it's temporary closed even under a new management. Hopefully, it gets the love it deserves in the near future if it ever reopens.

We booked for Sunday lunch. It's a large basic cafe with canteen like furniture. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and although basic the food, served at a canteen style servery, was plentiful and well cooked. I had to ask the server to stop as she piled veg and potatoes on top of the generous portion of meat. It is not cordom bleu but you won't leave this place hungry and the prices are reasonable.
