Gusto in South Ribble

A family reunion and a chance to meet , eat and have a drink in a friendly atmosphere. A great afternoon assisted by attentive staff who provided great service - well done

We 4 went to Gusto as it was local and a place we all liked. However the menu choices have shrunk, just one size of portion available ( previously smaller portions at a reduced cost were available) . I opted for 3 meat Lasagne which was delicious but the portion was quite small for a main course and certainly not large enough for a man or larger appetite. A 10% service charge was automatically added to the bill which I don’t like. I am more than happy to ‘tip’ based on the service received. Also my friend ordered a large glass of white wine which we all felt was rather pricey at £10. 50. It may be a while before we return based on today - which left me disappointed.

Excellent food, great attentive service, all round good experience. Although prices can seem a bit pricey, the quality and service justifies it. The 50% off food in January does make it really good value.

We visited the restaurant and enjoyed the experience, good food, excellent staff. The bill was the shock it stated a 12.5% service charge, it was in fact 15%. The donation taken was £2 not £1. I think the customer should be asked in advance of the bill rather than having to request NOT to have the donation taken. When sharing this story one of my friends said they had visited Manchester Gusto and was charged for tap water on the table. Surely that should be covered by the outrages charge of the service. On principle a few of us we will not be visiting Gusto in the future.

Absolutely superb food. The scallop ravioli and chateaubriand main were to die for. Excellent service too an all round brilliant meal

First time here and a half price food deal. It was packed . Nevertheless our server Franchesca was brilliant, friendly and helpful. The food was excellent Antipasta to share plus prawns for first course. Filet Steak , Lasangne and Duck for mains. Followed by nice desserts. I am Gluten Free but it was not a problem. We will return.

Had a lovely New Year’s Eve lunch. The food was lovely. There was 17 of us and everyone said they enjoyed there meal and was looked after very well by the amazing staff. I always book here for special occasions it’s a great place to eat. Thank you

Changed a lot, very average meal which hefty price tag, Poor lighting and staff running around with tables not cleared. Very small portion sizes for the price and eye watering drinks prices, to add insult to injury service charge added!

The food here was extremely poor. The bruschetta was two tiny oblong pieces of bread with what I can only describe as puréed tomatoes on top. As for the chicken arrabbiata, well the sauce was so watery it just sat at the bottom of the bowl rather than coating the pasta and the chicken looked like cubes out of a bag of frozen chicken pieces. For the price they charge you can get far better quality at a supermarket. As for service this was very slow considering the restaurant was only about a quarter full. Waited about 20 for our drinks to be brought out.

Call me old fashioned but when I pay £40 for a meal I expect my hunger to be sated. But last night at Gustos the portions were measily for all four of us, bordering on Nouvelle Cuisine. Are profit margins really so tight they won't include a cupful of chips? I won't be back.

I'm giving the restaurant 3 stars purely because of the staff who were friendly, polite, professional and didn't feel the need to keep checking everything was OK like some places do. If I was to base my score on the food alone it would be a 1. For the price, I expected to be wowed but instead was presented with food that was just average, sitting somewhere between a ready meal and pub Italian food. It wasn't horrible, it was just hugely expensive for dishes I have made better myself at a fraction of the cost. The arabiata in particular had very little flavour. One thing I will praise the restaurant for is its larger than normal selection of vegetarian options. It's just a shame that none of it that I tasted was worth the price.

Came for dinner and met a friend for drinks, the service was speedy, efficient. Acted well around the fact I had allergens. The floor around the table was dirty, I noticed pasta on the floor, but the evening was really chilled and peaceful. Food tasted great too!

Went to Gusto for friends 50th Birthday do, food was great, everyone enjoyed their meal and service was fabulous also. Being a big group we ordering drinks, cocktails, wines etc and service was great. We arrived at 3pm and it was about 7pm when we left on a Saturday and there was no rushing us along as you get in some places when you. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, the ambience and will definitely come again.

We visited last week and had poor service which we subsequently complained about to the Manager via email. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were greeted by a member of staff who was rude throughout the visit. We have eaten at Gusto many times and always had a positive experience, but on this occasion it was terrible. The first issue was when my wife commented that she’d booked a table but it wasn’t busy anyway. The staff member commented “Well it is 3.30pm. Everyone has been and gone.” We were then asked if they wanted tap or mineral water. When my daughter asked what mineral water was (she should know this!) the same staff member said “you don’t know what mineral water is?” When it came to ordering the food, we asked for a cooking recommendation for the rib eye steak and the same staff member said “Medium rare is a waste of time as it won’t be cooked.” The attitude and tone was all wrong. In fact, when the medium cooked steak (as per the recommendation) came back, it was too well done and chewy. When our friend checked the order she’d made with him for a burger and that it was with fries, he then responded “unless you’re now telling me you want a salad, you’re getting fries.” We didn’t complain at the time as it was a celebration. As I said, Gusto is usually excellent, but on this occasion was let down by the poor attitude and service of one staff member. The response from the Manager said that the staff member was upset the way they had been portrayed and they did not recall the wording fed back. If that's the apology, we will not be returning anytime soon.

My wife and I called in for a quick late lunch which was very enjoyable. We had a garlic bread (of course - tomato with chilli) this was nice and fresh and done exactly as we like it, we both then ordered the spaghetti bucatini which sounded ideal but we both found it a little too sweet for our taste. This was not a chefs problem more of us making a wrong choice as the pasta was cooked very well and the sauce was tasty - just too sweet for our pallet My wife then had the bombollini to finish with and enjoyed that. I had a small Italian lager (can’t recall the name) and that was excellent - cold and refreshing. Service was spot on.

I booked Gusto Cheadle Hulme on a Saturday night the week after lockdown was lifted. First thing of note is that the social distancing has been very carefully thought out. Clear screens between our table and the next table ensured we felt very protected yet the atmosphere wasn’t compromised. We were warmly greeted at the door, Hand sanitiser was available and the one way system in the restaurant was explained. The tables are spaced out nicely and although the restaurant was completely full we felt comfortable and safe. There is also a lovely outside dining area for when the weather is dry. Mikey our server was delightful and chatty, we were given our own personal menu which we kept and then was disposed of. We ordered Olives and bread to start followed by the Sea bass and a burger, they were both gorgeous!!. A couple of glasses of Wine, a cappuccino and a chocolate brownie for dessert completed our meal......The new manager Ben came over to introduce himself and check we were happy with everything, such a lovely man, very keen to make sure everyone’s experience is as enjoyable as possible. All the staff were very professional and attentive and the evening was faultless. We will be back again very soon, thank you to everyone for a lovely evening.

Lovely to return to this chain restaurant that always feels like a local family business. Great food- the best garlic bread for sure and lovely personal service with a smile. I see a little evidence of a price increase in the new menu and pricing (the wine particularly ) but of course keen to support the local quality business. Well done to Adam, Laura, Vicki and Mikey (we visited twice this week). Please please please bring back the courgette fries - I have no idea as to why these would ever be removed from this menu - the only bizarre short sighted move across the restaurants! Visiting with friends we had an excellent lunch at Gusto. A great menu, good food and very pleasant service. it is a popular haunt in the area and deserves its reputation.

Went for the january offer (50% off is too good to miss), and the starters were delicious. Shame about my pizza (I didn’t read the menu properly and failed to realise it came without tomato sauce (haha)), but the other food was genuinely delicious. Have been quite a lot of times as it’s so local to me and every time the staff are amazing and the drinks are also delicious (the mock tails are great quality). Definitely worth a visit

First time we have visited Gusto's having received a gift voucher.The service and food were both excellent. Would recommend it. We both had the A Le Carte menu due to the value of our voucher but having looked at the special lunch menu which is cheaper we will definitely be returning in the near future.

This is a very nice restaurant, but the standard of the food is no better than average and is grossly overpriced. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it unless you are desperate and willing to spend big bucks!

Gusto’s has always been a firm favourite, I’ve visited this particular restaurant over a dozen times and always had fabulous service and food and left positive reviews of our experience. I purchased a Groupon voucher as a gift but the dates I wanted to book for were excluded in the T&Cs so my friend and I decided to go at a later date instead.The booking was made over the phone and a 24 hour confirmation text sent the day before. On arrival we made the hostess aware we had a Groupon Voucher - she seated us towards the rear of the restaurant, pulled two tables apart but left the yellow ‘wet floor’ sign next to our table. As we looked around we noticed this area clearly had not been cleaned since lunch time despite the wet floor sign. The adjacent tables on either side all had food under them (bread and spaghetti) there was a Lego toy under our table and the table was kept balanced by a serviette shoved underneath it. The table to our left had a knife wedged underneath it. It looked like a toddler had been on the warpath! At several times during the evening we observed three and sometimes four staff members gathered at the till. Why not nominate someone to ensure the restaurant is cleaned properly?The food was mediocre to say the least and the calamari didn’t taste freshly cooked. The meatball starter sadly didn’t impress either, but the burgers were nice. The Groupon voucher was great value for money but considering we are Gusto Dining Club members we noticed a difference in service on presenting the Groupon voucher compared with previous visits. Sadly, after this experience and the decline in restaurant cleanliness I won’t be in any hurry to return to Gusto’s.

Having been to Gusto’s in Cheadle Hulme on numerous occasions now I was utterly shocked at the presentation of the restaurant tonight. We were seated upon entry as normal and shown to our tables the table was unprepared and was simply separated from a table next to it. We did not have a complete set up as there were no drinks menu, salt and pepper or wine glasses on the table as per the norm. There was also a wet floor sign next to the table with water on the floor below it as well as spaghetti and napkins on the floor and food remnants on the seats. This is far from the usual standard of the restaurant. The food was presented well and was served hot. My friend did say the calamari was dry and not up to the usual standard for the restaurant. This has changed my opinion of the restaurant in general and myself and my friend have decided if we are to visit a Gusto’s in the future then we will attend a different location due to the issues we encountered this evening.

Taking advantage of the 50% off offer, we had a delicious lunch , which even at full price would have been enjoyable. The food was fresh and delicious, the wine excellent and the service superb and attentive. We will definitely return soon.

Have been to Gustos numerous times. With friends/partner family etc. The food is always so tasty and lots of choice. The place itself is well decorated clean and well managed. Staff always willing to help :-)

We enjoyed the 50% off mains in January deal with the in-laws lovely starters and mains enjoyed by all and portion size was brilliant service was attentive and not pushy and on a very busy night we were never rushed to make choices or to vacate our table. We will be back soon.

Took advantage of their January offer which was 50% discount on total food bill. Started off with hummous which came with beetroot flat bread, tasted a lot better than it sounds. For mains we had pepperoni pizza with extra nduja sausage (mad chilli hot) and the duck breast. Food was delicious and served hot. Service was excellent from all the very helpful young staff. The a la carte menu is rather pricey as is the wine but with the discount makes it a lovely midweek evening out. They have parking at the back which is handy as there are restrictions outside on the main raid which a lot of people seemed to ignore despite wardens patrolling regularly,

Starters were plentiful and tasted excellent, especially the dough petals. The mains were also good however prefer the pizza being sliced before or at least to be given a slicer on the plate. The knife given wasn’t the best. Adam was polite throughout and made us feel welcome. The 50% off made it a lot more worth while... not too sure £55 for 2 people would’ve been worth it. Back after a year long gap, and now remember why it's taken a year. Prices seem all upwards, about £2 per main, but could be wrong. Focaccia starter was 10% warm and the massive- couldn't finish it. Mains; spag bol looked like a child had made it for their parents and tasted similar; flat steak very good; haddock risotto reasonable, but skimpyon the fish content. As a year ago, large Malbec £7 a glass- ridiculous for suburb land, and average quality. Might not bother again; shame, as C/Hulme crying out for a decent eaterie- somebody please bring it on!

Laura manages a team who under her supervision create a great restaurant Gusto chain can be proud of this restaurant .I have been to this restaurant the last 3 Saturday lunch times with different people and every occasion has been special ,the kitchen staff are excellent the servers pay attention to detail and the value for money food is very good .Alfonso David and Jack are very professional and well trained at what they do .The starters have been good, the main courses excellent and the desserts truely have an Italian influence ,well done Cheadle

I’ve been going to this restaurant for years. Even pre Gusto. I’ve always liked it and the staff. I went last evening not realising it was 50% off. I had booked for 4 people. At the last minute my friend needed to bring her 4 year old. When I arrived I mentioned this to the hostess. The response I got was totally shocking. I was told that the place was fully booked with over 300 guests. I suggested we just be relocated to another table for 4 where we could add another chair to the end. At that point the hostess raised both her arms and said ‘you’re not listening to me’. I was shocked and asked her to please just stop speaking to me like that. Eventually we were seated with the added chair. Clearly there had been no need for the outburst. The food was good overall but we had to send the garlic bread back as it was swimming in an inch of oil. We also sent back the truffle fries as there was next to no truffle. And from what I can see it’s merely a sprinkling of truffle. The particular waitress who took the fries back looked and acted like she might tip the fries over my head!! When she brought the replacement they were undercooked but I didn’t want the aggravation of complaining further. Adam waited on us and was lovely, polite and attentive and frankly rescued Gusto from a much worse review. I think the lesson here is that If you want respectful and decent service don’t go when it’s 50% off and for Gusto maybe think about the stress levels on your team as I can only imagine this to be the reason why two people in your team could be so uptight and unaccommodating. Disappointed.

We went to Gusto last night with our family (6 of us) and we could not fault it. They were so busy because of the 50% discount but the food, service, atmosphere and everything was fantastic! We all had different dishes from pasta to fillet steak and it was all absolutely gorgeous. The dough petals to start were delicious, so unusual and the desserts were stunning, especially the Affogato. The young man who served us was so efficient, funny, friendly and a credit to Gusto. We loved our evening here, thank you so much!

Really nice atmosphere but noisy. Great service friendly and efficient. Food delicious would recommend the calamari and the pate (this is a big portion) Ribeye was well cooked and pasta good.

... are amazing. Second time going to a Gusto to have it, and its sooo good. the price you pay is so worth it. Everything is cooked beautifully, you get loads of vege and there is a deal on 2 or 3 courses so it's not too bad. have now made it a monthly tradition to go to Gusto with my partner for Sunday roast!
