Always the best food and drinks served with service you can’t fault!

We had our wedding day lunch at Gusto Heswall on the 3rd of April 24, and it was truly amazing. Food was all around delicious, staff very attentive and friendly and the ambience lovely. It's a day we will cherish forever. Thank you Gusto for making our special day even better.

Services was great but just really slow on food

Visited Gusto Heswall for a family Birthday meal, the service was excellent but unfortunately the food was way below expectation. I had lasagna which was tasteless and really disappointing, my wife had the smoked salmon that looks lovely served with a fancy lid and trapping the smoke etc but again it was not great for the cost I would expect so much more. My eldest son had a burger that he said was rubbish. The kids meals were also not great chicken for my son was overcooked and dry while my daughters pizza was also over done and not nice, we didn't comment on the night as it was already late and the kids had school the next day. of all our meals out of the 7 of us only 2 of them were any good these were the rib eye steak and the duck. Staff are lovely and work really hard it is just a shame the quality of the food is sub standard based on the cost, in addition the service charge was crazy and awkward to request it is removed so we could give a cash tip. We have eaten here many times but I would not really rush back if I am honest.

Great food and atmosphere lovely happy staff

Ate here with my wife at the end of a few days with grandchildren on The Wirral. We don’t think we have eaten at this chain before and were pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere was relaxed (although winding down after a busy few days childcare may have contributed) and menu varied. Wife opted for pan-seared salmon fillet (served with puttenasca fregula and cavalo nero). Although plainer, my Caprino pizza was also tasty. Good service from Jess.

Gusto is a local restaurant for us and we have been coming for years. Love love love it and it is by far my favourite restaurant! Had steak tartar and mushroom fettuccine this evening with a Malbec and honestly, coupled with great service from Joe - it was perfect. Joe is a total asset to Gusto and I would hire him in a heart beat 💚 JOE FOR PRESIDENT!

Lovely evening spent here for my daughter's 21st. The table was nicely decorated, there was a great atmosphere and the food was lovely. We had great service from Joe, who handled a big group of people really well, and was very helpful, always making sure we were all happy and catered for. He also helped to take photos and bring out the birthday cake. Despite the service charge, we made sure to tip Joe personally, for his great service. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

I cannot comment on the food except the garlic bread and focaccia starter was very nice BUT we booked a table for 4 at 7.30 - signed up for platinum and still had no mains by 9.pm so we just left ( after paying for wine and starters) the waiter and bar attendant were very good polite and dashing around but an hour wait was not acceptable . Such a shame as we were with friends and hadn’t been before .

Lovely evening out, great atmosphere and the food was delicious. I had the duck which was incredible, I could have eaten it again, it was that good! Service from Joe was excellent, he really looked after us. Highly recommend, would go again.

Great Italian on the docks, service was speedy and food tasted amazing! Burger was cooked to perfection and chips were super tasty, would definitely recommend! I would highly recommend the cocktails, I went for a frozen one and it was so tasty!

Our food took well over an hour to come out, on a mid week evening with the restaurant half empty. When the starters finally came out, the wrong items came out so they had to replace it, which is fine, but then never removed the wrong item from the bill. I asked for extra sauce in my pasta which they added £3. Then had the audacity to add on a £18 service charge. They ALWAYS make you 'wait at the bar', despite having a reservation, despite being half empty - another way to encourage you to waste money at the bar. This is clearly a cash grab restaurant, and not enough staff to attend tables and make the food. Make sure you study the bill before paying at this restaurant..

Excellent family get together with prompt service with a smile

Lovely welcome to a restaurant we haven’t been back to in some time. Ordered starters and main from a still very limited menu. Thought it might have changed some since we were last here a couple of years ago, but no, still the same but some nice price hikes on the wine menu. Starters arrived and my pate with pickled onions was very average. Supposed to have been balsamic onions but not a chance. Then waited 25 minutes for my main course of a burger (very very limited menu if you’re a red meat eater and don’t want to spend a fortune on an average steak!). Five Guys or Shake Shack are a millions times better, and much better value than the £15.44 for this overcooked excuse for a burger. We’ve give. This place too many chances and unless things change significantly, we won’t be coming back in a hurry.

If I could rate zero, I would. Food was stone cold and looked as if it was prepared well in advance. Service was terrible and did not seem interested in taking my complaint seriously. After looking at numerous Google and TripAdvisor, I can now see why everything was so bad. A ruined and very expensive special occasion ruined. I would not recommend Gusto Heswall.

I normally love an evening at Gusto’s but when we went for my birthday treat in early January i ended up in A&E. I had Sea bass as my main course and I swallowed a foreign body possibly a small bone. I had to have a camera passed up my nose and down my throat several times and the ENT Consultant found my tongue had swollen and there was bruising to one side. The uncomfortable and painful feeling of something stuck lasted nearly a week and I needed a follow up hospital appointment. I also had to pay for taxis to and from the hospital in the early hours of the morning which was an unexpected cost.Not to mention the expense to the NHS. I told Gusto’s about my experience and they filled in a health and safety form but that was nearly 5 weeks ago and I’ve heard nothing more. I understand accidents happen but it’s the response that really matters and Gusto’s response has been completely underwhelming. We are pensioners and don’t get a chance to eat out regularly and this experience spoilt what was supposed to be a treat.

Heswall Gusto Pate, fillet steak and chocolate brownie. Also had some of my wife's Pulled Pork Gnocchi (well worth a try, watch out for the chilli's if you're not a big fan).

Quality food, professional and friendly staff and a lovely ambience. I’ve visited with family, friends and my husband and enjoyed all experiences.

Food is amazing as always, staff are excellent, I can tell the chefs take great pride in their work. Fast service food tasted better than my trip to Italy! The wine and cocktails are great too.

My friends and I went here for a catch up. The food was absolutely amazing and the host, Joe was wonderful. My friend didn't actually eat her main as she said it tasted funny. The kitchen staff 'tested' it & agreed, so she did not have to pay for it. They could not do enough for us & Joe was so helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. We shall definitely be returning.

Wow...so expensive!.... a Monday afternoon. The 3 of us had a main course, tiny bowl of olives, glass of tap water and a bottle of wine....£93 which did include a service charge.

Lovely place with a nice atmosphere and lovely food

food was OK, calamari a bit chewy, and truffle mash was cold, service was good but the service charge was totally over the top. I understand service charge being added on for a small group but it was just the two of us and we were charged a £16 service charge. We are generous with our tips but we give cash tips to our server. I was told by a member of staff from the Liverpool branch that all service charges are sent to head office and divided out to all the staff. Not sure if this is true but I was told by a staff member who appreciated us removing the service charge and giving him the cash directly when we were in Liverpool. Heswall seemed too busy for us to even discuss the option of a cash tip instead and the service charge wasn't even mentioned until we went to give our card in to pay, so we felt awkward. Being told how much you should be tipping isn't fair. Definitely not returning. The billing is sneaky and unfair, putting diners on the spot to make them feel awkward

Despite it not being full, the noise levels were very high. Too many hard surfaces reflecting sound. I'm sure some will love it and describe it as atmospheric but i found it unbearable. The service was friendly and attentive when needed.

Beautiful setting, great menu choice, everything was perfect - service, presentation, portion size, taste. Had a mix of pizzas, pasta dishes & salad & everyone was delighted by their choice. Very disappointed the other night. There for a family meal, obligated to pre order the day before due to being a party of 11. Started off OK, drinks and starters served but then an hour and a half wait for our mains although tables next to us arrived (party of 6) ordered from the menu and served before us! No valid excuse given when we queried the delay. My starter of prawns and pickled fennel... well nothing pickled and all served swimming in some sort of tasteless liquid.... main of honey/lemon/thyme chicken in romanesc sauce.... no hint of lemon, honey or thyme.......🙄......DISASTER!!!!!

Had an absolutely beautiful meal last night. Had heard a few mixed reviews lately off colleague’s about food wait time/ drink wait time, but these reviews were completely put to bed. We were greeted and sat by a lovely young lady, Megan. Who then proceeded to serve our table for the evening, service was perfect and nothing was too much to ask for. It’s rare nowadays to be served by someone so young, who has a constant smile. The meal was absolutely delicious, there was a small wait for our mains but this was communicated to us by Megan and a gentleman in a suit. We did not mind waiting as the food tasted so fresh, and of good quality. My family was absolutely delighted, as was I. We will be returning to Gusto soon, and I will absolutely be recommending you to everyone. Thank you so much Gusto.

Very lively on a Friday night, almost completely full, mainly with the bright young things (housewives or not) of Cheshire. Service was great, timely and with a smile. King prawn starter was very tasty indeed. I had mushroom pasta for main, which was OK. I holidayed in Tuscany for many years, and this was a favourite dish. I often felt I'd died and gone to heaven. Gusto's version made me think I was at the Pearly Gates. Overall, a very good experience.

Had a family meal here last week and I have to say I am impressed with the quality of food and service at Gusto Heswall. A table of 10 isn’t easy but the staff were fantastic and everything came to the table at the same time and quickly. I had the beef roast and it was really nice. Staff look really sharp and professional. Not the cheapest but we will be returning.

Faultless and attentive service. However, the food was dreadful: pasta was cold and hard, its sauce semi-tasteless. I'd say the dish had been cooked in the past, reheated in the microwave, then left to go cold again. Awful food and at London prices. Avoid.

I couldn’t believe the portion sizes served. My pasta dish looked like the starter size, the Ragu sauce was so skimpy the dish was extremely dry. The steaks the party ordered were also tiny, what’s happened to this lovely restaurant. I hate being ripped off and won’t be back.

Disappointing, considering that the menu gives an impression of catering for gluten free and possibly dairy free. Meals weren’t as stated on the menu in this regard and the chef kept turning down our orders as a result. It appeared that menu selections were pre packed and not prepared fresh as most of the dishes were only available cooked in butter. No flexibility to leave out any parts of a menu item as a result. Finished up waiting long period and receiving a green salad and chips. Staff friendly but apologetic.

This is a bustling and vibrant eatery in the centre of Heswall. The food was great, and the atmosphere good but a bit too noisy. Service excellent.

We saw they had a 3-meat ragu. Haven't seen that in a lasagne for 40 years so you've got my attention! We had pizza, prawns and the lasagne. All were excellent in flavour and presentation. While the ragu was less intense than the recipe I've got, it was sensibly dialled back for the locals and refreshingly authentic take on northern Italian cooking. Don't miss the tiramisu! There for a family celebration booked early as with young children. We had pre ordered a 3 course menu so no reason why we waited an hour for the starters. Service and food quality poor. We left without the sweets after over 3 hours. Children distort!!
