We ordered takeaway for the first time after having dined in the restaurant a couple of times and enjoyed our meal. The takeaway was the exact same quality. The meat of both meals were tender and plentiful. The naan was delicious (as per!) and the samosas were delicious too. Will order again. Thank you!

fantastic service, love the food

I ordered chicken bhuna and keema naan. I got butter chicken and plain naan. The food was fine though it arrived very late, but it was not what I ordered: I wanted a dry curry not butter chicken. Very disappointing.

Excellent curries in a reasonable price..portion size also amazing.keep up the good work brothers.

Bhuna sauce was very watery and tasteless. Chapatis where hard, all pretty cold when arrived

Have ordered from Guru many times in the past but quality seems to have gone downhill a bit. Distinct lack of chicken in chicken dishes - mostly sauce, which was not what it used to be either.

Food was oily and naan was very very big

Decided to come here after getting a delicious takeaway a few weeks earlier and was really looking forward to it. However, disappointingly, our expectations were not met. As usual, we ordered poppadoms and the pickle tray while viewing the menu. We decided on pachos (Indian nachos) and dynamite prawns from the street food section of the menu as starters. While both were tasty, the portion size of the pachos was disappointing as was the fact that there was only a drizzle of cheese on top. The dips provided with them, however, did give them a lot more flavour. For mains my partner had chicken tikka with a South Indian garlic chilli sauce on the side, while I went for the chicken chasni. We had a cheese Nan, a garlic Nan and some pilau rice as accompaniments. The chicken tikka was delicious as was the sauce. Not normally one I like but this one had less lime and was not as bitter as I usually find it. One I would try again. While the chasni sauce was also fabulous the chicken was underwhelming as it appeared to come from a bag of frozen chicken cubes. This may be to keep costs down but does impact the quality of food delivered. Both nans were excellent. The service was excellent and atmosphere very good but not changing cutlery between courses is always a no no in my book. I really wanted this to be fabulous, and I don’t think it would take much to get there, but overall we left a bit deflated.

Mediocre. No veggie pakora on the starter menu. Chicken bhuna so-so in terms of taste and portion, although the cheese nan was huge and good value. BYOB system also kept down the overall price. Wednesday night and not busy so restaurant cold. Owner didn't help matters by allowing his children (or grandchildren?) to run around noisily as young kids tend to do when left to their own devices.

After travelling around India, this is my favourite Local Take away. Their tandoor oven tandoori dishes are so tasty , and curries full of flavour.. The Nan bread is the biggest I’ve ever seen. Highly recommended. :) Marc

not sure if it is related...but cheeky Tuesday with 20% of ..felt related to the amount of curry we received...seems both curry's where only about 50% of the container size...pity as the curry was beautiful

Good service, food was lovely, more like good home cooking than restaurant food. Not too expensive either.

Regular customer, but got home and was a curry short. Phoned and no person thought I was Uber?? None of the regular management seemed to be available when asked to speak to them. Was told missing dish would be with me in half hour, that was an hour ago! Great place but second time missing curry has happened, time to look for a reliable curry house sadly!

Food was good but 30mins late, therefore food wasn't hot, more luke warm, so would have been more enjoyable hot.

… but on this occasion the takeaway meal was exceptionally disappointing both in quality and quantity. We’ll give it a miss for a while I think then may give it another chance to see if it has improved.

i’m horrified in finding a blue plastic piece in my nan bread and annoyed that we ordered a lamb and it came chicken, i want a full refund as we have not been able to eat this as we have been put off the nan bread and only 1 of us eats chicken!!

Weekday evening meal. The place was very quiet. First time we’ve ate here and will go back. Lovely lamb tikka masala and tandoori chicken. Mains. The naan bread is enormous and we should have only ordered one between us, not two. Lesson learned. The king prawn puri, as a starter was delicious. Amazingly tasty. Staff were lovely.

Been using the guru for years with no complaints, tonight how ever was a shambles from start to finish , the waiting staff where so undertrained, and customers entitled to use and obtain a blue light card discount , which I have used in the past but tonight discount offered only on my meal which has never happened before , and manager had a could not care lest attitude, which is a shame cause he in the past he could not faulted for the care and customer service , I hope I can put this down to a bad night

It wasn't the same standard as before, eating in restaurants is different than ordering for delivery, test and quality varies.

Tried Guru for the first time last night and will definitely return! It’s BYOB (£1 a can/bottle) which keeps the cost down and allows you to bring your faves. All the usual favourites plus a few individual specials. Great Poppadums/Pickles, decent Pakora and a spicy Chana Purée. CTM was a bit bland but the Chicken Jalfrezi was very tasty. However the Naan was ENORMOUS and really good! Will be back!

Expected better. Barely any meat in the dish. Mostly sauce and tasted watered down. Rice overcooked. Chapati was more like a poppadom, overcooked to the moon. First and last time ordering, disappointed.

This was the second and final chance for Guru to wow me with their food. Unfortunatley another bland nad mediocre meal. Salad for tikka thrown in a foil bag with the mead, so just a steamy, mushy lettuce and cucumber basically. Rank... Tikka sauce tasteless. Meat was ok. It was however good value for money, but wont be ordering again.

Food was great, naan massive and everything delivered within a minute from the estimated time. 6/5!

Superb food and a massive naan. Well recommended. Only downside was I got chicken and not lamb. Not the end of the world but come on, it’s not that hard.

Mixed Kebab starter was excellent. Nice fresh tasting sauces and succulent meats. 10/10 Jaipuri Chicken… ummmm. “Thick sauce” with 2 out of 3 chilli rating was very loose and lacking much flavour. Don’t know if they use the classic base gravy for all then modify it to match the dish (which is fine). But I think mine had no modifications. Just the base gravy. Was so disappointed after a cracking starter

The food is decent but the delivery is a shambles. I have actually just cancelled an order on 25/3-25 minutes late when I called and apparently roadworks in Edinburgh is the reason. Although the food apparently still in the kitchen. There are no roadworks between the restaurant and my home, so basically a bunch of chancers making it up as they go along.

I'm not sure what I received though I ordered chicken green herbs. I'm used to this being a dish served in a green gravy yet what I received was in an orange gravy with an overpowering taste of ginger & no evidence of green herbs at all! Very disappointing, this used to be my favourite takeaway but I won't be ordering here again!

Ordered three main dishes and two starters. Sauces were basic and lackluster. Garlic chilli chicken underwhelming. Chapati burnt in places. Lack of sauce for Pakora. Overall it was okay but won't order again.

Fabulous meal from the Guru with an excellent delivery service ensuring the food is always scorching hot. Good to see this restaurant has not lowered its high standards after moving from Fountainbridge.

Have used the Guru as our Indian of choice for many years now but after tonights delivery we will be going elsewhere. You used to get a small tub of salad and spiced onions with each delivery but this was removed some time ago and now there is a charge if you want these items. This is not a major issue but I've also noticed that the meals have become smaller. Tonight was the final straw when the containers that our curries came in were barely half full!! Charged almost £29 and we receive ridiculously small portions! My recommendation to others will no longer be to use the Guru but to look elsewhere as the carryout service is anything but value for money!!

Food was alright nothing special. Took almost 2 hours to get the food delivered.

I was over charged £2.55 on “Prawn Puri”: I paid Just Eat £6.50 but the delivery receipt was £3.95 and it was a small potion so I contacted Just Eat “Price Promise Query” but they did not make a refund… it wasn't fair.

Excellent service and food as always, there was a slight mix up with my order that was corrected quickly and easily. Guru is by far the best Indian that I've found in Edinburgh and I can't rate it highly enough, also make sure you order the special chutney as its incredible

Cold food - this was not even luke warm. Papadums were just a bag of crispa. Tub of sauce opened & spilt in bag. Garlic nan wrapped in foil and then ripped half open. Rip off.

Scorching hot meal, as hot as if it had just come out of the kitchen. Brilliant meal, delivery driver polite and friendly as always. Hugely impressed with meal and delivery service.

The food was the worst I have ever had! The curry you make from pre-prepared sauces taste better than this! I ordered to the hotel, they must have thought this person must be a visitor and not going to come back so doesn’t matter how it is! The food had no flavour whatsoever! The food was so bad that I couldn’t eat it, I had to throw it away!! Avoid this place!

Food was good as always but it was late and cold

They phoned us to say that they were out of lamb and offered to change over to chicken which we were happy with. As it was already paid the £4 or so refund will go back onto my card. The driver was also 10 minutes early. The food was as always delicious and the garlic naan the size of a small boat. I still had a hankering for lamb but oh well, next time.

Our favourite Indian in Edinburgh. I always try a different, spicy curry. Every time it is amazing. I was disappointed the lamb kebab starter was not available. Highly recommend any of their tandoor meats 🤩

Food was good, a little late but to be expected on a Saturday night. Order showed up missing an item, phoned the restaurant and they were very apologetic and offered to have the missing dish sent over ASAP which was ideal

Big portions, especially the naan breads.

The main chilli garlic curry was very nice. The naan. Bread was huge and the food was good value. The only changes I’d suggest is figuring out how to keep the sheek kebab moist as this had dried out by the time it got to me and how to keep the naan dry as it went soggy from its time in the foil it came in. Delicious food but noticing that the main meal portions are becoming smaller. The containers used to be full but I’d say they’re now three quarters full.

Ordered two curry’s, Nan and rice for £32, received 6 minuscule pieces of chicken with the korma and even less lamb with the bhuna, taste was good however both had the consistency of soup. Won’t be back.

Great food and not expensive. I recommend the Ceylon curry. We also got an extra naan which is very nice.
