Guru in Plymouth

Incredibly slow. Don't bother. We've tried a few times but they ALWAYS add at least an hour onto their estimated delivery times, it's just a complete shambles. We've given them the benefit of the doubt but the same thing every time we've tried ordering from here. They show you an estimated delivery time before you order of an hour, then take 2 hours to deliver.

I haven’t had a curry from here for a while due to family circumstances. Had a big order £50 last night for our daughters birthday and it was absolutely outstanding. I did speak to the guy who has taken it over and wished him well. Glad I ignored some of the previous reviews I’ve read. I’ll be back soo

How did curry from here first time could not eat? It had to be put in the bin disgusting won’t be returning again.

I always have come here for our take away curry's. The staff are really lovely and the food is always delicious. I love their tarka Dahl, and their saag paneer. Their meal for one is amazing value for money and is always yummy. The only thing I would say is if you arrange delivery it's often a bit later than the ETA so I try and collect if I can. Tip: If you do collect, it's cash only but that's fine with the cash point by Co-op: just remember your bank card as I've done that before! Thank you Guru 🎉

The Guru was recommended by a friend 'previous owner', although he did mentioned it was taken over by new management. As a first time user we were all really impressed with the flavour and quality of food it was excellent. Having always used Shapla and been let down a number of times with the takeaway 'restaurant is usually much better' we thought we would give Guru a try, very happy that we did.

As I placed my order I noticed a sign under new management, was told nothing has changed food wise, unfortunately that wasn’t correct, the food isn’t what it was, cutting corners with the ingredients, my wife had 2 mouthfuls of her chicken Buna and said it’s disgusting, my special curry, was just missing it’s usual variations in flavour. The onion Bhjai was very very greasy and not its usual crisp. Sorry Guru but I will be going elsewhere. Bring back Bill!!!

Food was nice, nice large portions, great location. ordered over the phone- they said would take 45 mins. Went to collect after 45 mins, not ready! waited another 30 mins! longest had to wait for any take out food! The guy on the desk was rude and cocky as well. Said we could ONLY pay cash- won't be going back again.

Had a takeaway a few weeks ago, ordered online with ease, went to collect and did have to wait a while even though the app said it was ready. The staff were so apologetic and it really was not a massive issue, food was delicious. Would definitely return again!

I've been going here for years, and unfortunately, it has deteriorated badly. Always double the time they say its going to take and always missing food. I really hope they get their act together as it's a shame I'll never be going back again

Ordered £50 worth of food early in the afternoon came half an hour late / was cold / partners main was bony and inedible - will not be returning there are other Indian takeaways out there!

Lovely food, only for it to be spoilt by learning that the tips left online for the driver's don't actually go to the drivers, the restaurant owners keep it!!! Poor sportsmanship that, please change this, it's unacceptable.

If things go wrong and they do,do not expect any sympathy whatsoever from the manager of this place.In the past I have let things go but it’s now time for a review. When you are told it’s a thirty minute delivery always add at least another thirty minutes.They tell you thirty minutes to get your order.The food overall is very nice but and there is a big BUT if it turns up cold,late or with items wrong or missing they really do not care and that is what really lets this place down.I now give my money to the Shapla just up the road who bend over backwards to put things right when they go wrong.The Guru has now lost over £500 a year from me…..people talk with their feet!

Food turned up 30 minutes early and was left on doorstep, with no attempt to make contact with us.Called to query and was hung up on and refused to replace cold food. Have previously waited an hour over estimated delivery time. Have them a second chance, never again.Staff very rude and unhelpful.Will not return.

Whenever we order an Indian takeaway, Guru is always our first choice! Tonight we nearly had to cancel our order because the time we were given online showed over an hour wait but Guru went above and beyond to process and deliver our order very quickly and we were soon tucking into another delicious takeaway!Thank you once again Guru!

Great food usually, but delivery on Friday 5th March was rediculous. I ordered on Just Eat at 7pm, got confirmation of delivery for 8:30 pm after two phone calls got it at 9:30!! Too late to eat it! Rating for delivery

Ordered at 6.30pm and still waiting for my delivery at 8.20pm. No answer when ringing! Absolute shambles. I’ll never order from The Guru again! Really poor and not the first time but this will be the last time.

Gone down hill since the use of Just Eat. Unable to keep up with demand. shame really as this was our takeaway of choice.

We are regular customers but today it all went wrong and we won't ever order from here again. Food was left on door step for an hour! Called to complain as I am deaf and I didn't hear door and hearing dog didn't react. The driver claimed he knocked for five minutes - I didn't hear. He said two people were smoking out the back - yet no one in the house smokes?! No missed call on my phone to ask where we were? I called the guru and When I spoke to the driver he called me silly and said being deaf isn't an excuse for not answering the door. He said the notification saying a driver is on the way is enough! He accused me of lying on several occasions.£50 of food wasted - no gesture offered as they claim they did their part! ... DO NOT EAT FROM HERE! Shapla has better service! To be that awful and rude to someone who hasn't heard the door is uncalled for!

Ordered from here by phone when the Just Eat app failed lovely friendly people and said would be ready in 20 mins if I collected. The food was the best Indian we had had in a long time. Tasty and good quality will be back for sure!!

Order delayed by 40 minutes right on collection time. When called they still insisted a delay of 25 minutes was the best they could do.

Ordered my food at 615. It’s now 840 and it’s still not arrived 😡 After trying to call 102 times (yes really) I was just told it’s on its way. Still waiting

Ordered from here for years but won’t ever again. Worst customer service. Once our food went out for delivery we realised we ordered to the wrong address via the just eat app, rang the guru to ask to contact the driver. He refused to do this and hung up. £67 order and we lost all our money.

30 minutes late, my naan bread was missing and I sliced my thumb open on the sharp edge of the metal container it was delivered in. The food was average. When I called to explain that my naan bread was missing, the man on the phone accused me of lying, saying it was in the bag. This was the worst takeaway experience I have ever had.

Ordered garlic chicken, very little garlic but lots of cheap rubbery chicken which I didn’t eat. Quick delivery, nice rice!!

Always use this takeaway - bedt in Plymouth. Food consistently hot and fresh and menu options cover all tastes. Good value for money and friendly staff. They do get very busy at peak times - if you can collect it is much quicker. Am also aware they have ongoing issues with Just Eat so avoid ordering via them and call The Guru directly. Would highly recommend overall :))

If you order, do not order through JUST EAT, their words not mine, 1hr late and they didn't care, we had a text to say it's on its way and then we're told they lost it!! Too many orders etc , people order from 6am and they all come through at the same time, it's not our fault!!! Over 200 hundred orders so what can we do??? If they don't like just eat remove just eat, simple. Bad service, not a care in the world, If they know it's gonna be late call the forward orders to update and be polite. We ordered before 6pm, delivery 7.20, 8.10 still not here, again not a care in the world, We've used the Guru loads over the years, not any more.. Food arrived gone 8.30,

Pre ordered via just eat only to be rudely told 30 minutes after my confirmed delivery time that it's going to be at least another half an hour.Don't take orders that you can't fulfil and employ staff that don't speak to customers like dirt.100% go somewhere else as you will be disappointed

Shocking service tonight. Ordered through Just Eat, which understandably was nearly a 2 hour wait for delivery as it's a pay day weekend. But our food was another hour on top of our delivery time. The shop had obviously got fed up of the phone ringing as it wouldn't ring at all as I tried numerous times over an hour. Not knowing whether the driver was ever going to show or not he eventually turned up to just hand food over and just say it's 'mental' tonight. No apology, no real excuse or explanation. Won't be using the Guru again.

Ordered a mixed starter and some mains with a side of bindi bhaji and saag paneer. Collected the food which we ordered through Just Eat and was piping hot & tasty when we arrived home. Every single dish was delicious. Very pleasant man behind the counter. Highly recommended.

Had takeaway from here for years. Been messed around all night. Ordered food 3 hours ago, kept calling to say it was going to be 20 minutes late. Food recently has been less than satisfactory. Rude staff, completely incompetent. Do not order from them.

First time placing an order and was spoken to very rudely on the phone by a women. I found she was very sarcastic and patronising. The delivery driver was quick, which was a bonus. The food was good but wasn’t very hot even though we live up the road. If I’m spoken to in a rude manner next time I order I won’t bother.

This is the best Indian take away ever, the food is delicious, the service is quick yet food remains excellent. The delivery service drivers, and the telephone order staff are all really cheerful, and helpful. Cannot fault the Guru.

Rang to order a delivery, the advertise free delivery within 3 miles (which we live in!). Told told that they are too busy to deliver to us so we will have to come and collect it. Female member of staff on phone very rude! They should not advertise delivery if they are not prepared to do it!

Rubbish service. Waited nearly three hours for a delivery. Rang numerous times and was told it would be 10 minutes. Almost three hours later told they were just cooking it. The excuse they used was that they were extremely busy in the collection department. HAVING A LAUGH. not even an apology but I did get a lot of abuse for cancelling the order. Joke.

A handy outlet for a takeaway, with a expansive menu, priced in the "competitive" range. The food is tasty, plentiful, but sometimes disappointingly lacking in spice. Whilst the food is quite edible, our experience has been that no matter what you order, it is almost invariably served in a universal "Red Dye" looking sauce which is OK but somewhat lacking in individuality. Main Course Tikka dishes have a distinct "Microwave" look and texture about them, rather than that drier, sharp "Tandoor" effect. Good for a quick bite, but not for those who are looking for authentic Indian cuisine.

Yet again amazing meal ordered was given a time for delivery it was on time it was hot didn't have to warm it up I had the chicken delight with chicken fried rice my partner had the chicken patia which isn't on the new menu and had chicken fried rice we shared a garlic nan, you get free two Papadams with onion salad and mint sauce which is lovely

Ordered on a Sat night and was told 22.00 delivery, but it arrived hot and half hour early.So much chicken in the Masala, and the sauce was just right. I had asked to have a bit hotter than advertised and it was perfect.The Mushroom rice, had sliced mushrooms in it, which was great as I can't stand when tiny bits of mushroom are put through the rice.The delivery lady driver was lovely and polite, an asset to the Guru.Would highly recommend. And will most definitely use again that's for sure.

Have been going to the Guru for some time now, have tried others around plymouth but nothing compares to the food from here. Service is much better if you dont go through just eat, they always say 45mins but it never is. Food is delicious and you get plenty, great prices too.

Have eaten from here many times in the past and wouldn't go anywhere else as the food is always excellent, but customer service this evening was terrible from the guy on the end of the phone. Everything was "na mate" "no you didn't " ," no you avent". Appalling telephone manor, will not phone again. Going to try the new Indian up the road.

As did many others we ordered a takeaway for New Year's Eve. We were told it would be 2 hours for delivery or 1 hour if we collected, so we collected. As you'd expect it was heaving when we got there to collect our order but although it was a few minutes late, it was nothing given the time of night and what day it was. I had Chicken Tikka Bhuna and it was hot throughout and delicious with loads of chicken. My dad had Chicken korma and polished it off in no time. Overall, couldn't fault it and would use them again.

Now the nights have drawn in these nothing better on a Saturday night ordering a takeaway on a cozy night in found if we order early it arrives just when we are ready to eat , we can honestly say its be perfect every time. Thank you from us both from Merafield Road.

I have just ordered & eaten what was SUPPOSED TO BE a Chicken Curry. However, being a curry connoisseur, I can honestly say I have never had something like that - EVER. It was tasteless, bland & very watery - this didn't even LOOK like curry! The only way to describe it, was like a few chicken pieces in a very mild, watery red sauce - in fact, my plate was swimming with liquid when I dished it up. I wish I hadn't wasted my money & I certainly won't go there again - better off sticking to the tried & trusted 'Shapla' - just a short walk away & we've never been disappointed yet.

I would say that this is the best Indian takeaway I have ever had. The food is always cooked to perfection, the food is hot, the staff are friendly, the place is clean. They would do well if they opened a restaurant, their chefs are the best around. Myself and my husband have been coming here since it has opened. So impressed and tell everybody how good they are, Would not go anywhere else.

The food was first class and as a veggie who likes a hot curry, it was great to be able to order the strength that I wanted and get a perfect heat. The meat eaters of the family also thoroughly enjoyed their meals and my pregnant daughter only wanted a small portion and they were happy to oblige. No hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

We ordered a range of dishes for a family treat and received more onion filled dishes than I have ever had beforeOk, onions are cheap but, why make the dish contents so onion based ?Very disappointed..., to say the least.
