My husband popped in this morning and ordered a breakfast for himself and a tuna Mayo and cheese jacket potato for me, now we’ve been here before and the jacket potato was lovely last time (my husband needed to run over to the shop to get tin of tuna though as the cafe didn’t have any in..) but this time it was just an absolute joke- I opened it and it was a tiny potato, no salad, with cheese and a tin of dry tuna just tipped over the top.. no Mayo in sight.. so dry it went in the bin.. clearly Gaynor couldn’t be bothered this morning. Very disappointed, won’t be back again.

The food was fantastic. I had the special of the day, which was cooked perfectly and well presented. For the price, I got well more than I paid for, as the portion size was large. Even with this large portion size, I still found it easy enough to polish the plate as it was so nice. Thanks to the staff for being attentive and providing a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back.

Every Saturday we go to the Guinea Gap Cafe for breakfast. We've been going for years! The breakfasts are always cooked fresh so you do have to wait 10 minutes or so but it is well worth it. If you have any dietary needs just tell Gaynor and she'll do all she can to sort you out. In short... great food, fair prices, and lovely staff.

We come here from Raby mere, quite a bit out of our way and we pass lots of cafes to get to this one. The food is tasty, quick with happy staff. The prices cannot be beaten. There where 9 in our group today so we rang ahead to let them know, they put tables together and had it set out for our arrival, some high end restaurants can't even get that bit right lol. We have never had a bad experience and whenever we think of breakfast we always head here. Give it a go. It's a local small cafe delivering well priced food in a great relaxed atmosphere. A brilliant all round British cafe.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

In the Guinea Gap Cafe, the scouse accents are - as the words of the song put it - exceedingly rare. For regular patrons, the wit and the banter are rapier sharp. But don't let this put you off - it's all meant in the best possible taste. And where taste is concerned, the food won't let you down. This is a good old-fashioned, working-class cafe which serves hearty breakfasts and lunches that satisfy 'blue collar' appetites. Whether it's a bowl of scouse for lunch or a traditional English breakfast, you will leave fully satisfied. The Guinea Gap's 'signature' dish is its traditional Sunday lunches, such as lamb, chicken, pork or beef with potatoes and mixed vegetables, which are also on the menu during the week. Be warned however, you would never describe the fare on offer here as 'cordon bleu' and the service isn't of the silver variety. That said, like the food, the service is straightforward and you won't forget the staff in a hurry. When they're on form, the atmosphere is one to behold. The 'regulars' contribute to the fun; they're a diverse bunch and you will invariably end up falling into conversation with someone who's got an interesting tale to tell. For anyone who wants to have a genuinely hospitable Merseyside experience, then the ten-minute walk from the Seacombe Ferry Terminal is well worth while.
