Grove Tavern in Tunbridge Wells

Popped in here during a boozy afternoon visit to Tunbridge Wells. Went to the pantiles after, but to be honest, I wish we'd stayed here as the beer was better kept, the barmaid was engaging and it was a proper old fashioned pub with friendly locals and clean toilets. I'll definitely be back on my next trip.

Worst experience we have ever had - just opened the door and a large ‘Alsatian’ type dog attacked our cockerpoo. Cannot recommend a pub that allows dogs of this nature. Owner of the dog did not seem to care if our dog was injured.

Hi, the main reason I gave two out of five is because the group of us arrived quite late in the afternoon and you only had one customer. I am sure there are many other times it has a great atmosphere! It is a shame we do not live a bit nearer and can pop into your lovely little pub more often!

Such a cosy, home-away-from home, sort of place. It's really small, which creates a very intimate atmosphere.

If you are a local this place may be ok, even good. But if you are a tourist visiting for a quiet drink and a game of pool, beware. This pub is hostile to say the least, if anyone has seen the Goonies, one could relate to the likeness of the evil grandma with the barmaid we encountered. Avoid if on holiday. Edit regarding owners very polite response. Thank you for your detailed explanation. We went in the day and only stayed for one pint so our opinion isn't clouded by alcohol. I do understand that people have off days, and I really don't like to leave negative feedback, see my history, I'm in the top 5% of pub reviewers on Google and yours is the first I've left a one star for! I have changed it so not to reflect badly upon your pub as to be fair it would have been nice in other circumstances.

Proper pub- but little! Pull an excellent Tim Taylor’s and a very nice cider on. Will be back.

Excellent back street, almost hidden away pub, up on Little Mount Sion. I first went in this pub back in about 1983 - and the Compasses, opposite. I have lived in Exeter, Devon, for decades, but always remember these two pubs, off the beaten track. Nice atmosphere.

Wonderful little pub with friendly staff and locals. Very cozy place with a pool table in the front. The pub was clean and tidy and the Guinness was excellent as was the Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter.

The absolute definition of a locals pub without the hostile environment. I popped in for a lone pint and the staff and clients were just lovely. I may become a regular myself :)

Small pub in the village area. It's a hidden gem and deserves more custom than it probably gets. Well staffed. There is a pool table where it is normally possible to get a game - well done for retaining in my book!

Best proper pub in Tunbridge wells. Doesn't do food but they happily let you go in with fish and chips from chipshop just up the road.

Love the quiet, friendly atmosphere of the place, which is set in the "village" part of the town, just up from the High Street.

While it's a smaller pub than others nearby, it retains all its charm. We just about got our very large pub crawl group in, but despite this there was no trouble being served, and we felt we weren't getting in the way of the regulars. Staff were friendly and made us feel right at home!

I've been a happy customer here for over 4 years, the pub has been around since the 17th century and for good reasons! Traditional style PH with good facilities, perfect for a small gathering! I can't think of any other pub with a pool table in this vicinity and that also has a dartboard! The staff are amazing and engaging. Nice vibe, been refurbed recently :). Free wifi without selling your soul and being bombarded with marketing info. All in all, my preferred night out within a 5 mile radius. Good collection on the jukebox, caters for everyone whatever your music taste. Winner stays on at the weekends on the pool table so if you need a bit of practice before then weekdays are a good option. Looking for a good, fun and close knit night out with a couple of mates? Want a cosy and welcoming atomosphere this is the place to try!

Great local pub. Just recently moved to the area, a young couple but this is now our favourite. Everyone is friendly and the German shepard is lovely, what more can you want! Go down the road for poncy cocktails 😊

It's an ok pub that's got a pool table it's a nice place to go if you like the traditional country pub I'm not sure whether they do food and it's also quite a small pub.

My local. Friendly Proper pub, no Sky or BT sport so you might actually get to talk to someone! Pool, Darts and ancient jukebox. No cooked food, but crisps, nuts, scratchings etc, dog friendly (for well-behaved four legged visitors).
