We’re regular customers who go in spite of the food. Quality of food is very disappointing. We have found their steaks I edible as well as other items.

Went with family on Sat night. Been several times but getting bored now with same menu and high prices. It's always busy so must appeal to some but found everything so overpriced. Waited an hour for food to arrive. We are busy we were told! Food was nice I suppose. Only come here because it's near my Dad's and we pick him up. So if u like the same menu week in week out and don't mind paying a lot then go here.

Lovely helpful staff (excellent recommendation for the Whitley Neill blackberry gin!) Great service and delicious food. Both the Cheshire cheese tart and the Kedgeree were superb !

Great place for a Sunday roast and close to a few good walking routes along and over the river Dee to burn it off 👌

If you live within 30 mins of this pub then Go!! It's a very nice pub in which The Food , beer and staff are brilliant !!

We came since it was my birthday and four of us including granddaughter had a lovely meal with great service and in a superb pub with lovely gardens. We have just moved to Chester and already the Grosvenor Arms is our goto pub for a nice meal. We look forward to walking there sometimes.

Wanted Hake for main meal but was told that not avaliable. Ordered fish and chips. Bad decision. Tastless. Not cooked. Terrible. Will not be returning here again. Atmosphere was non-existent. Maybe it was a quiet time. Prices very expensive even with vouchers.

We have supported Brunning and Price for many years. Over the years, we have only complained twice, and both at this restaurant. Yesterday was sadly the worst. The staff were very helpful as usual but clearly grossly over stretched both in the restaurant and garden, but sadly in the kitchen too. Having waited over 15 minutes for a bottle of wine, which I had to chase up, I was presented with the worst crispy beef salad I have ever seen. It was simply the usual beef strips, but covered with a gloopy sauce. I wasn't prepared to wait another 40 minutes for a replacement, so pressed on..so disappointing. It seems that it escaped the attention of the numerous managers that on a beautiful summer's evening, there might be an increase in customers..... So, perhaps the layers of local, area or whatever suited managers should pay more attention to staffing levels and customer care rather than profit levels..

The Grosvenor Arms is a gem that never disappoints. The food is amazing and the staff even better. We always have a great experience.

Lovely place. Good sized car park. Great selection of food and drink (including gluten free and vegan). My fishcake dish was just delicious.The bill was very reasonable. It was the perfect place to catch up with friends. I would highly recommend and cannot wait to return.

Fabulous traditional English pub serving THE BEST roast dinners! Caters very well for food intolerances/allergies. Great service and family friendly atmosphere.

Lovely hotel and staff will definitely stay again when in the area. The spa facilities are great with a genuinely good steam sauna, if it’s not steaming ask a member of staff to show you how to set it off, takes less than 30sec to steam up. The Palm Court restaurant is a great place for an evening meal, though a little hit and miss on a Sunday if you don’t want the carvery.

It is one of the best places for a meal. I've been visiting for over 20 years with business guests and family and have always had a great meal.

Six colleagues meeting up for a social evening. We enjoyed excellent service, food and drinks by friendly, professional people in delightful surroundings.

Lovely country brunning and price pub. Same great service as all their other pubs. Great Sunday menu and the Sunday roast as usual excels. Fab Yorkshire puddings, and always happy to oblige with extra gravy. Too full for a dessert afterwards. Tea always comes with a small flapjack, this week's were really good. Gardens are nice, plenty of outside seating and the usual tractor for the children to play on. Highly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed visit with the family to celebrate my wife’s Birthday. Very accommodating with a high chair available for our grand daughter.Excellent service, meal most enjoyable

We enjoyed a lovely walk from Eccleston to the pub for a light lunch and back again in the sunshine. I'd highly recommended it...even if I do like embarrassing my Mrs when her glasses fall down her face!

We had a very nice evening meal at the Grisvenir Arns this week.

We always enjoy Brunning and Price establishments, and whilst it has been many many years since we were last in the Grosvenor, today the food was exceptional. We started with black pudding and whipped goats cheese. Followed by kedgeree and linguine. I finished with a tiramisu. All were delicious.

Lovely pub in lovely surroundings. Service however was extremely slow.

Excellent meals, service was bit slow- hence 4 stars, but they were extremely busy. Dogs welcome, staff very friendly and no tip automatically added - which we found refreshing given most places add it on now with a clause you can 'ask' to have it removed 😏! Would 100% recommend

We were a party of 20 people to celebrate an 80th birthday. The lady who looked after us was so calm, accommodating and ensure the whole party’s needs were met. Wonderful service which added to the occasion; thanks to all the staff involved.

Food is lovely as were the staff. Classy yet not a pretentious restaurant. Had to wait a long time for dessert so when the bill came they knocked the price off. Not many places would do that and it was much appreciated.

Really disappointed with the service and quality of food we received today Thursday 11th January 2024 at the Grosvenor pub in Alford Chester . Took 40 mins for our meal to arrive … wasn’t advised the delay on food ? When it arrived the plates were piping hot as well as the food …. Clearly had been put under some sort of heat to keep warm but was a slightly dried up !! Then ordered coffee and small pudding ,received the coffee without the complementary flap Jack , which was disappointing when had seen them coming out ! When asked was told they had run out …had to 2 female staff where the pudding was after 30 minutes for a bite size dessert to arrive, which was after coffees had been finished . Attitude of the female staff was very no understanding and left us feeling , not wanting to rush back soon … which is very disappointing, as we have been going to this pub for 10yrs or more we felt invisible even had to wait to pay bill staff passing and not asking . Really upsetting experience ! Customer service was poor today Grosvenor Arms ! Not normally like that !

A group of us booked a table for new Years Eve 2023/4 & to also celebrate my Birthday. Often the food at this time of year is rushed,cold or not as good as usual. Justin and his crew provided a brilliant meal, tasty, hot and plentiful with the usual pleasant staff providing a brilliant service. The band was fantastic with everyone enjoying a wonderful evening! We have been visiting the Grosvenor Arms for years and I’m afraid it is now very poor compared to the days when Brunning and Price only had a handful of local pubs. We had the Christmas menu and were very disappointed with undercooked veg and dry turkey (albeit a lot of it). Service was very poor and while I don’t object to well behaved dogs in country pubs per se, I do find it off putting spending a lot of money on a meal with a dog constantly yapping at the next table. We have been to the Grosvenor Arms for Cfristmas Day Lunch in previous years but am glad we haven’t booked this year especially at £94.95 a head.

We were having lunch with our friends today, and we had a great time. The service was spot on, and food was very good, served hot. As it is the festive season, the place was packed and very busy. We had the 3 course Christmas menu, and we were all full to the brim. Definitely recommend the Grosvenor Arms in Alford. Anne Williams

Have visited the pub/ restaurant many times over many years and always enjoyed very good food served by friendly staff. On our last two visits, we were disappointed with our meals . The first time was a one off - maybe? The second time- a big disappointment. Hopefully, the Christmas offerings will be better, but we’ll now be booking elsewhere.

Gorgeous pub serving a good range of gluten-free pub meals, including indulgent puddings. Highly recommend the fish and chips and sticky toffee pud. While the place was busy, the service was also excellent.

Sorry to say this place has gone off a cliff post pandemic/cost of living. Mean portions, poorly cooked. Very inconsistent. For every 1 good meal you'll get 2 bad ones. Take care if planning a special occasion here

Popped in on the off chance after walking dog this place never disappoints . We did not book a table staff found us a table immediately although it was fairly busy . Food service and atmosphere was spot on as was the Eastgate ale . Main course delicious and piping hot chicken cannolini my daughter had three nibble plates all delicious . Will be returning soon thank you

This place is a countryside gem of a pub. The staff are friendly and attentive. The venue is amazing with a lovely, sprawling outdoor garden and patio - great for dogs! (Who are also allowed inside - woof). And if you ask at the bar, they will give your dog treatos. Nice selection of ales on tap. There's a good range of different items on the menu, although I knocked a star off as the dumplings in broth I had was unbelievably salty... I dined at their sister venue, the architect, the previous day and had the same issue with the risotto there. Other than that I can't fault the Grovsnor at Aldford. And it's nice to have some vegan options that aren't the same, boring things you get everywhere. I can highly recommend walking along the River Dee from Chester to here, it takes about 2-hours each way and the pub in the middle is a great pay-off!

We've been coming here for many years, and it's always been fantastic. The food is always and still remains wonderful. The portions are big, and the choice of starters and nibbles are so delicious. It's always a hard one to pick as having a main course. Your eyes can get bigger than the belly. ( Dont get me started in the puddings). The Sunday roasts were gorgeous 😍 and plenty, and I love the fact that they ask if you would like extra gravy when you are served. On Sundays, they are busy, so please be patient. Relax, enjoy. Thank you for another wonderful weekend. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and we will definitely be coming again..

Excellent food, great service, but very bright lighting and very noisy due to acoustics. We managed to shout across our table for 2 but on larger tables it would be a nightmare.

Nice pub for a drink. Food was not great. Like a school canteen dinner! Especially the fish and chips. NB- I did receive an apology from the restaurant so I believe this is definitely excellent customer service so I have increased my rating. Hopefully my visit isn't a reflection of normal service

Our table booking hadn't been registered, but we were accommodated anyway. All four of us enjoyed our food, and the service was exemplary. It was busy, but not overwhelming, and we were able to enjoy a delicious meal in relaxing surroundings.

We had a family get together. Everything was perfect. Couldn't fault anything.

We had a great experience eating here recently. The menu is imaginative and has something for everyone; there were vegetarian and gluten-free options and the service was friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

5 stars are just not enough for this place. Food was probably the best I’ve had in many years. Cask ale was clearly kept in a perfect cellar. I’m known for finding fault in a restaurant and making a point of it. Nothing to see here. Oh and the staff are magnificent very attentive but never overbearing. Thank you

My wife and I went for a bite to eat for lunch and without making a reservation. Even though many tables were reserved. The staff quickly found us somewhere to sit. The service was a little bit slow, but then we did arrive at 12.10 so they had likely take. Several lunch orders before ours. The staff were all very friendly, well presented and were attentive. The pub itself is a beautiful old building and has plenty of character but still feels welcoming. The food (we both had steak sandwiches) was absolutely delicious and fairly priced. Sure, you could get cheaper but probably not better at that price. I will definitely be going again.

Lovely experience at the Grosvenor Arms for my friend's baby shower. Slight issue on arrival due to a double booking but that was rectified quickly and efficiently. Service was good as was the food. Would recommend.

Lovely gastropub with great food and friendly, attentive service. It's nicely set out and very comfortable inside, and there are nice outdoor seating areas for sunnier days. They have a childrens menu and there is a park with a small playground accessible from the back of the car park for them burn off some energy after a meal!

A lovely setting for lunch or dinner, it has very good food at standard prices. You can get light bites or a full meal. Service was good and pleasant, just not outstanding. I would certainly go here again! Our bill total included drinks, so the cost per person was just slightly higher.

We were a party of six with ages ranging from 7 to 70. A lovely and varied menu with plenty of choice for everyone. Every dish served was well presented and delicious. Particular favourites were the baked brie (starter), lamb shoulder (main) and raspberry ripple Arctic Slice (dessert). The waiting staff were really pleasant and friendly and very helpful with picking things suitable for our youngest member. Very pleasant surroundings and xlean toilets. We've used Brunning and Price pubs on many occasions and have always been delighted with them. This was definitely no exception.

Always like to visit this place. Have been to a few establishments that belong to the same chain in the area and further afield but this one is my favourite. My starter today was amazing. Onion/carrot barjee with a pineapple salad...a taste bud explosion! The Lamb I had for mains was cooked to perfection and thoroughly enjoyed. Service via all staff encountered was exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble. Only one slight gripe sometimes it is hard to know who are actually the staff and who are the customers due to lack of any stand out attire being worn but other than that I love this eatery.

There were so many amazing dishes on the menu tonight that we struggled to choose what to have! One of our party needed gluten free options and there was loads of choice. All our food was just delicious and we agreed it was the best menu we'd seen for ages. The staff couldn't do enough for us. We had such a lovely time tonight, so thank you for that! 🥰

overall a lovely meal! we did think the prices though were a little on the high side. But as it was our anniversary it was a nice treat. Vanessa was a very professional and friendly server. We will be back though :-)

A lovely place to enjoy good food and a nice beer or two

As regular visitors we enjoyed an excellent meal, served by lovely staff, however when we politely asked for the bill, the manager said can you not see we are busy, whilst walking away, in a loud voice he said patience, people have no patience. We appreciate it was a very busy night for dining, and we stressed to the barman we were happy to wait but felt the comment was uncalled for and rude from a person in a managerial position. After many years of giving custom, we don't feel we want to venture here again. Sorry
