Grindon Village Tandoori in Sunderland

Ordered take away from deliveroo , quoted one hour online not bad on a Tuesday evening, two hours later food arrive, food mediocre, best avoided.

So we have eaten there before and all was well. However tonight 09/12/23 we ordered told it would be an hour and a half wait for delivery ok. So an hour and a half later meal arrived and as lovers of Indian cuisine to say disappointed is an under statement the container had chicken bhuna crossed out and chicken rogan or something like it written above. It is clearly two different meals chucked in the same container as they got it wrong. I rang to say what they had done and the man that answered was clearly uninterested and insisted that’s how they make their dishes “luv” and to accept this was “ok”. He was patronising and rude. The meal was not what we ordered and wasn’t nice at all, we won’t be eating there again. Terrible customer service.

Ordered on just eat. Always order (from other places) mixed sagg. Supposed to be medium spiced. Had no spice, heat or taste. Just grease. Was 30 minutes late and was cold. I rang to complain and was told I was lying. I had to heat it up. Poppadoms were a packet of burnt bits. I’m from an Indian background and there were no spices used in this dish at all. First time of using Grindon and I won’t ever again. If I could have given it 0, I would have done.

Buna Prawn on Puri starter was horrible with a very thick paste like consistency rather than a 'looser' sauce. We paid £1.30 extra to 'upgrade' to a 'mixed' Kashmiri curry but received a sub-standard portion containing just 4 small square chunks of chicken and 3 tiny square chunks of another meat which I think was beef and chunks of banana. The standard chicken version would always include twice as much meat with several larger pieces of chicken The chips were not chips but undercooked large pieces of fired potato. Very poor value for money and over 50% of the meal was just thrown away as it was not enjoyable and will never order from this establishment again

Ordered online at 5pm to be delivered at 8.15pm after waiting an hour checked on just eat and said delayed so waited more than the ten minutes delay got to an hour and a half and still no delivery called the shop and a very rude man said got no delivery drivers so will have to wait till they have one bearing in mind we have now been waiting for more than a hour and a half and no idea when it will be delivered asked for a update just be told to F off swore at more then hung up on me I was totally shocked at the way they speak to there customers.

We thought we'd try this place out for a change, big mistake, chicken was dry, tough, and the sauce was as if they had put a cup of sugar in it. My partners Vegetarian dish was excempt of any vegetables except potato, how imaginative, not!!.. Needless to say never again!!..😠

Fantastic food! It was very fresh and flavorful. We could tell it was just made for us. Yum! Best place in Sunderland for Indian food. Highly recommended.

We were looking forward to a curry after a really busy day. My sister made the order of chicken tikka masala, we were told that the dish was not part of the Sunday special but pay an extra £2.50, we could have the tikka masala or just have the chicken masala. We paid the extra: how disappointing was the whole meal, they don’t serve salad with the onion Bahjies, really unusual, the naan bread was the thickest and blandest dough I have ever had: worst of all was the supposedly chicken tikka masala, which wasn’t, it tasted like a cup of sugar had been added, no tastes of the delicate spices that should be in, it was the WORST curry I have ever tasted, shame on them. I called them up and asked if the chicken had been cooked in the tandoori oven, the guy went and got someone else, who said he would send another curry, but would like the first order returned (he was welcome to it). As I thought the new curry came with tandoori cooked chicken, but the sugary sweet sauce just ruined it. Pardon me for being cynical, but I’m just wondering how many times they put the extra tariff for a specialty dish and don’t send it? Don’t go, you will be disappointed.

Always come here for take away. Non veg thali is what we order enough get two people alway delicious & hot to serve. Recommended.

Did not arrive as stated. App said food had been delivered...it had not .... when I phoned to find out what was happening, the person who answered phone was extremely rude, he just talked over me and argued with me. They have now lost a regular customer. Very poor customer service

Had not even acknowledged the delivery note for the sauces of the curry, on collection, argued that we had not payed via card when we had. Just pure ignorance. Man behind the counter was biting his tongue aggressively. Very poor customer service.

I ordered the king prawn biryani and buna prawn puri starter with keema nan i must say It was absolutely wonderful I highly recommend to everyone to try this out . The food was on time and piping hot. I tried other indian takeaways but this one has to be the best a'v eaten so far .

45 mins late, due at 19:20 when I called the takeaway they didn't even know what I was talking about placing an order (probably because I paid by card and not CASH!!!,and when they realised the order they said it was going to be 10mins this was at 19:47, food arrived at 20:07. No apologies or anything, ordered 25 pounds worth of food expecting to be satisfied, only it was the opposite, first of all I specifically wrote in the notes 'NO NUTS AND SULTANA' in the biryani and IF THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE TO LET ME KNOW the ignorant takeaway failed to read this IMPORTANT information they have only put nuts and sultanas in the biryani this was very DANGEROUS, biryani straight in the bin, I also requested instead of the vegetable sauce that accompanies the biryani if could have a vindaloo sauce, this was also went ignored, again I did write in the note if not possible please let me know, although would not have been fussed if this was not possible, so ordered meat somosas and I have never seen so much oil and grease pouring out because it was not even wrapped round properly, another dish in the bin, I also ordered a beef balti and it was sweeter than a packet of sugar I have had a lot of baltis bit not as sweet as from here it was like eating a korma, this was a waste of money and time, and will never order again, if I ever want a decent curry I will know to avoid this place, no compensation for being 45 mins late to show appreciation either, was really looking forward to tonight and this has spoilt it,

My food never a arived, phoned restaurant to be told that delivery driver had been 3 times to my door and that he had rang my mobile only to be told to .. how do I put this in terms he's words was fxxk off, my son was very bad last night so the house was very quite because I wanted him to rest, there was no knock at my door bearing in mind he had been 3 times and my mobile certainly did not ring well it did just my mother on phone checking up see how little 1 was. Anyways my phone starts ring at 11.45 saying can I come to the car outside and pick up my food how rude as was the manager massively attitude shouting out window at my open door I said sush be quite I've a poorly boy in bed, which I received a lot off attitude back I shut the door on him very angry I was, the car turned around up street came back engine running outside my house just starring at our house we were feeling very intimidated, I went out while my partner was trying to phone police he drove off as I approached his car and I said to my wife just cancel call I will take this up with just eat as I have done so and waiting for them to get back to me, this is an absolute disgrace from grindon village tandoori never ever will me and my family be using them again.

Usually quite good but I ordered today and it was horrible the curry and rice looked like it had turned to a paste which to me looks like they have had it in the heater to long the chicken was dry the popperdom was soggy. What's happened!!!! I paid £20 as well..... very disappointed :'( was proper looking forward to a lovely curry aswell but unfortunately it had to be binned.....

food was not to its usual standard! the Vindaloo was way hotter than normal. and delivery was very poor, threw most of the food in the bin! and I'm not sure I will be using Grindon Tandoori again! and will be telling friends not too either.

Having been here previously and had a successful gluten free meal I visited again. I went in advising that I was gluten free and the response I got was "don't eat" which was very unhelpful. I walked out

when we have an Indians we always use grindon tandoori. Last night, whoever their chef was they need to keep... the whole meal was the best we've had in a long time and peshwari nan was by far the nicest we've ever had! Cooked to perfection!!

Grindon tandoori has to be the best all round Indian food in sunderland, I have literally tried every other takeaway in sunderland trying to better grindon tandoori, I have had slightly better but only on 1 off occasions, always return here. Great service, speedy delivery , superb taste. #thebest in the area. 5*****

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. Order was placed at 19:20 delivery time given of 20:15. At 20:35 we checked just eat and the order was marked as delivered, we called the takeaway as we had not received our order and were spoken to by an extremely rude and aggressive man who advised he could not discuss this as he was too busy and had nothing more to say our order would be there soon. The food arrived at 21:00 was lukewarm and less than average, DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE.

Lovely food again have used this take away a few times now and are never disappointed. Only hiccup this time the food arrived at 18.15 instead of 19.30 so had to reheat in the oven. Food was still great and hasn't put me off using this take away. :)

Well I've not ordered in ages from from here, I did the other night and they came quick as usual, food was spot on. I didn't even order poppadoms, dip and a little salad they gave me these for free! Just goes to show they remember loyal customers & great reviews. Always polite, happy & will always remain my favorite place 😊😊

All food except the curry was cold when it arrived (just 10 mins after expected time so not too bad). Curry was nice, but even though I warmed the chips/naan etc in the microwave they were not nice. They might want to invest in an insulated box to keep the food warm in. Delivery driver was nice and friendly.

Used to come here years ago and recently moved back to Sunderland so thought I'd try again. Food as beautiful as always, although I did order a plain pilau rice and got something that had onions and spinach (?) in it - still very nice though! Only down side would be delivery was half an hour late and we'd already waited around 45 minutes before that.

Definitely one of the best takeaways I've had the food is really good. The only thing is it's really busy because it's so good so it pays to get your order in early and check it when your there I ordered a chicken on puri and got prawn which was very nice but if you didn't like prawns it would have been a problem but overall it's good food and well worth a visit.

We have been ordering from Grindon Tandoori for in excess of 20 years, maybe more. The food has always been delicious.

I have used grinding tandoori for some time now and have never been disappointed with the service or quality of food. I work in sales and am a stickler for customer service. The satisfaction in food and service keeps me returning time and time again

Food was nice starter a bit disappointing, not as good tonight as previous orders, food quality changes on a special night, never seems to be as good as a non special night. delivery was on time. Maybe need to provide free items once in a while, maybe pot of free pickles, or a couple of free poppadoms once in a while. Will still order from here again.
