So we always go here for a good old fry up. you even get fried bread not for everyone I know but lovely for a treat. It’s cheap as chips!!! Saying that we always get a small portion. Had large one once and could not manage that. That set you up for the day, and if that’s not enough you even get a tea or coffee. Staff are very friendly as well. And they have an open fire.

My sister and myself do a big walk in the Peak District each week and always start the day with coffee and a bacon and egg roll so after many years I could write a guide to cafes across the area. We have been here previously on a number of occasions and whilst not brilliant has been relatively okay. However we shall not be returning unless it is under new ownership. Firstly we were greeted with a very frosty reception, as though the 2 women had had a raging argument just before we entered. All the chairs were on the tables so we took down the chairs on one of the tables so we could sit down. Eventually I was given a bacon and egg roll which was the worst experience I have ever had with one and as a previous reviewer has also said, I felt extremely nauseas for hours afterwards. There are so many other brilliant cafes around the area who care about what they provide to their customers. Incidentally I have now found that they have a food hygiene rating of 2... Fill your boots elsewhere!

Out for walk and called in about 1545 to the station Cafe for something to eat and drink. The young girl at the counter said that there was no food available other than hot drinks and we could only sit outside. She did offer 'chip butties' though and these were dished up on big bap style butter less dollops in polystyrene take away boxes. The outside wooden picnic tables were grubby and the whole place looked run down. The worst my lady friend and I agreed we had seen for a very long time. Were it anywhere else it would have gone out of business long ago. It is a disgrace and goodness knows what visitors from overseas may think. Oh yes, even though the cafe was still open the toilets were closed!

We visited this cafe again today, our third visit since the nice weather. The food is amazing, well presented and the portion sizes are big. This cafe has good old fashioned food, very tasty, my husband had the pie, chips and peas today he could not finish it as plate piled high. The service was fast and the staff are helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble, so if your going out that way, forget pack up I would highly recommend this cafe and will definitely be back.

We have been visiting Derbyshire for many years now and the Padley Gorge walk, with a lunch stop at Grindleford Station, was always a ‘must do’ within our stay. Due to Covid, followed by a house move, we have missed 3 years so we were really looking forward to doing this again within a recent visit. The walk was as enjoyable as ever but we were horrified at how Grindleford Station has deteriorated and didn’t enjoy it at all. The outside area was filthy with cans, food wrappers, serviettes littered everywhere and it had obviously been there for some considerable time, not just that mornings trading! My husband, unable to eat the usual bacon buttie at the moment, ordered a tuna sandwich, expecting it to be within 2 slices of bread. Instead it was identical to the buttie with a bland ‘cotton wool’ bap having no butter or spread on it, the tuna just ‘plonked’ on one half and a heap of lettuce on the other with a few bits of onion and tomato. Not at all appetising looking. There was a metal trolley by the wall near the entrance for empty plates etc which by the time we had eaten and left was piled up with plates, leftover food etc and no attempt was made to clear it, or replace with another one. It looked disgusting! Not surprising the eating area is adorned with rat catching boxes! It is so sad to see how, what was a quaint, unique and very pleasant eating place has deteriorated. The owner and/or staff obviously take no pride in their establishment now. It looks so ‘unloved’. Needless to say we won’t be revisiting on our future walks!

We were early for our train to Manchester, so went in to the Grindleford Station Café for takeaway coffees. However, just as we were ordering our drinks, I noticed a sign saying 'cash only' because there was no internet signal and they couldn't accept card payments. I explained our cashless situation and said that we had better cancel the order. The owner said that we could have our coffees and pay by BACS later. Although our bill was only £6 it was very trusting of him and we paid him as soon as we had a signal. I can only reiterate our genuine gratitude for his generosity and that he was prepared to take the risk (albeit a relatively minor risk) that we would pay later.

Having a caravan situated around a mile up the road I use this cafe frequently as washing up breakfast in the caravan is a it of a chore! To be honest, what you think your going to get is exactly that from Grindleford Station Cafe.A smell of chip fryer lingers in the air when you enter the cafe. Not truly awful considering the amount of plates piled high with chips you see coming out every few minutes… The “full breakfast” or full English isn’t really Full nor big. The sausages are of poor quality and just deep fried so cutting into them releases grease. They do taste quite nice however. No Mushrooms, no black pudding on the full english/full breakfast Also the most odd thing is they don’t include toast, but bread with margarine thickly spread onto it. Most cafe’s I’ve been to include toast with a full English. Also making customers pay over £1 for a cup of instant coffee is laughable. Most guest houses and dodgy hotels have a proper coffee percolator (the type with a carafe) to serve customers filter coffee. For me this a carnal sin on part of the cafe to not serve “proper” coffee. Hygiene is a bit hit and miss. Some days nice and clean, other days rubbish flying all over the outdoor seating area. All in all it’s okay. The staff seem pleasant enough, and it seems they have gotten rid of the condescending signs. I just wish the bl**dy tannoy screaming numbers out every few minutes could be turned down, or a waiter/waitress could bring your dishes to the table directly.

I was surprised by the number of good reviews at this place. The outside seating is covered in litter that blows around into the surrounding countryside. It looks like nobody has bothered to pick it up for months. Onto the inside which was also really dirty. It clearly hasn’t had a good deep clean for years. You can see into the kitchen so the same goes for in there. The food when it arrived was pretty disgusting. Deep fried cheap sausages full of bits of grizzle on a cheap bun with no butter and a coffee than could have tea - who knows. Cheap brown liquid in an plastic cup. The toilets were really dirty with no hand wash and no bog roll. And that’s presumably where the staff go too. I couldn’t eat much of my my roll because the sausages were so horrible and the environment so unhygienic. It’s a shame cos the location is lovely and this place has a good rep which I guess it’s still trading off.

Went today and was very surprised at the number of tables packed in to an outside space with no tables put out of action so that social distancing could be maintained in line with government guidance. Visitors were being careful when moving about and wore masks, but the owners did not seem to be on top of Covid 19 Secure measures outside (though they were inside). Also no obvious sign of where to check in with the app??Given the high precedence of Covid in surrounding areas where some of these visitors must surely be from, we did not feel safe there.

Situated just above the Grindleford Station and nestled around the Padley Gorge walking area, I had been here one time before last summer with friends and decided to show my parents this place for a hearty lunch after we hadn't eaten breakfast. We were pleasantly delighted at the food with the very reasonable prices for the location, with great servings and the chips were done really well, not your average soggy and stale thick chunks that are difficult to swallow after a few bites, these were crunchy and particularly good soaked in the gravy they provided. My mother had the soup of the day-it was carrots but it had a touch of paprika in it giving it that extra punch and a unique twist on an otherwise very mild soup. It came with a massive bun and plenty of butter to put on top.Everything was as per Covid restrictions, with the chairs and benches both inside and outside very separated and a one way system in operation. You collect a ticket and then go to grab your food from an area with sanitising equipment available once your number is called rather than table service. Overall I heartily recommend this place, especially after a day of trekking in the Peak District or if you are about to leave via the train station just below. Just looking at the pictures of the food makes me salivate now XD

Given we are in the throws of Covid and many places are asking card only we were a bit surprised. The coffee and tea were great, the service was fine and although we didn't have a meal - the whole point of this walking malarkey is to lose some weight - others around us were given huge helpings, and there were a ,lot of appreciative noises to go with the super smell. An historic station put to modern use with a simplistic contemporary charm. Food is cafe style and cooked to order, the chips are the best round for miles, cooked twice, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Sausage egg and chips, with the eggs and chips cooked how they should be. The chip shops around here are abhorrent in comparison, we go to Grindleford Station just 2.5 miles away when want decent chips.

We have been coming to Grindleford Station Cafe for decades. It is, or can be, on the route of many of our favourite walks and became even more popular with us after our children were born. It ‘does what it says on the box’! A basic overall menu for food and drinks but the portions are generous, the food largely, but not wholly, calorific... just what you tell yourself that you need after a long walk. There is an option 5o eat inside or out and in Winter you may be lucky and sit near a roaring fire. Service can sometimes be a little slow, but that’s only because it can be very busy on good walking days so, ‘you pays your money and you takes your choice’! If you don’t want to wait for your order, and I have heard some people complain about this on our many visits, choose somewhere else to go. The ‘Chip Butty’ reference refers to one of our favourite choices, what seems like a mountain of ‘proper’ chips on a ‘breadcake’ to share or scoff! Pure indulgence!

When one hears the name 'Grindleford station cafe', one would imagine warmth, quaintness and traditional good service- far from it! The place smells of stale lard. It is stark and unwelcoming, not in any way quaint, hideous garish LED floodlights which emit an unpleasant blue hue of light are dotted around the outside of the building greeting customers, looking better suited to a prison camp than to the Peak District (how about some traditional lanterns- these would be far more in keeping with a supposedly traditional railway café). The interior is stark and modern- not what you would expect from a traditional railway café. Pretty much all traces of a traditional café have been removed.

This is an amazing little cafe. The huge mugs of tea, they do amazing large yorkshire puds & great chips. They even made me a lovely omelette & salad which wasn't on the menu. Great place to go & refuel after a fab walk.

After a 2 mile walk down Padley Gorge we came across this cafe. This place was just right to break up our visit. It was very busy but service was ok and the food and beverages were perfect. I had an all day breakfast and my wife had pie and chips. We got change out of £15 result.

This is a proper café offering proper food. All to often we find cafes a little to 'nice' in popular/scenic areas where the food is more like that of a tea room. Here it is proper food you would expect to find in a roadside café with good size portions and no fussiness, just how I like it for a good satisfying lunch stop. Good value to ! It made a great place to refuel our bodies before the long walk back through Padley Gorge.

Walked through Padley Gorge & found this gem. It was packed & a great place to stop for a cuppa & a bacon butty. We only had a cuppa as wanted to save ourselves for lunch.

Called in to rest my weary legs after a hike in the Peak District, before getting my train home. Very friendly and despite there being lots of customers, I got served quickly. A great place to be fed and watered...

Understaffed on half-term, which meant we queued for over ten minutes before placing our order, and then had to wait over 30 minutes for bacon, sausage and egg sandwiches. When we enquired as to how much longer we’d have to wait, the cook, a tall thin grey-haired man was extremely unpleasant to us and had a very aggressive attitude. He was also eating as he was working, which I found very unprofessional. No apologies or warning about the wait. The food was decent when we finally got it but no butter on the bread! Hire people with customer service skills!

As a regular visitor at weekends when it can be exceptionally busy(even when the weather is not so good), we don’t often get chance to go in the week. It is much quieter but food is still same fantastic fare, portions are immense (must be biggest chip butties in the world?), and tea & coffee comes in half or pint mugs!.Choice is huge , cold sandwiches, hot sarnies ,all day breakfast, and a long list of other hot meals. Chips are amazing ,always cooked the same ,not greasy and really crispy. Highly recommended

We ate here following a long walk. Unfortunately we were too late to order from the hot meals menu, but were offered 'chip butties'. These turned out to be excellent, but were enormous so beware if you don't have a large appetite. The service was friendly and efficient and be aware that you can dine outside should you have a dog. I have eaten here before and the food is good, albeit the portions are large but ideal after a walk down Padley Gorge. Well worth a visit.

Which says it all really! Consistently good, no nonsense food, at sensible prices, perfect after a morning out walking or climbing. Chip butties are fabulous, bacon sarnies great, full english huge and tasty. Love being able to get a proper milky coffee.

Very friendly staff... most helpful as I require a gluten free diet and the food was excellent. We will definitely return to this venue when we are in the area!

Bear hangover cure there is. Beautiful countryside to look at. Amazing food and the staff are really lovely as well. If you like tea in huge mugs this is the place to go. Couldn't believe how big the mugs were but was a very happy girl :-D

This is a brilliant place to eat large portions of food at good prices, cooked fresh as you order. Brilliant setting too especially in summer. Good customer service too. Pints of tea and coffee and all sorts of other weird combinations also are available!

Just back from our walking holiday in the Peak District. Stumbled upon this little "ramblers" cafe while walking Padley Gorge.

I come here often when I go on my monthly visit to padley gorge, it can get extremely busy especially in the holidays or on bank holidays where your queuing for ages to order food then waiting twice as long for your number to be called. It sells ice cream, cold drinks, hot drink, all your typical greasy spoon food I.e. chip bitty, sausage beans and egg etc. Also sells info about walks you can do and fridge magnets. There's seating inside and out, dogs are not allowed inside. The toilets are customer only or pay 20p for use.

Loved this cafe. Had walked down Padley Gorge and was looking forward to refreshments here. Everything I have read and heard about this cafe appears true. Generous portions of food, very large mugs (or is that buckets) of tea, and all set just above the entrance to Totley Tunnel - what would this have been like in the days of steam.... All refreshed, set back off up Padley Gorge and back to Longshaw House

This cafe does exactly what it says on the tin. A big board of every meal you can get. A great non pretentious place to get a hearty lunch / breakfast. The chips are great!

I never knew thid place existed but was very happy to find it during a university trip to the peaks. A cosy cafe with fresh, british food which really fills you up for the long walk. It happens to be right outside the train station too which is a great place to sit in whilst waiting for your train. Our food was called out when it was ready which caused a lot of confusion with such a large group, I ended up waiting over 25 minutes as other people kept taking the food left on the counter as they had ordered the same thing. I'd come back here again if I happened to be around.

Really just endorsing previous reviews. Have stopped here a couple of times, and would now try to plan it in as a lunch stop if walking in the area. Great quality basics - breakfast, bacon sarnies etc. - at reasonable prices, plenty of space, friendly staff.

Beautifully decorated with blazing log fires and a welcome to match, this pub is probably the best in the area. Great menu at realistic prices and unsurpassed quality and presentation - what’s not to like. We could not fault anything - thanks to all the staff for a wonderful evening.

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!

Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend
